Description
Fiery red glowing hair shapes the face of this Azure-
touched woman before you. Her eyes are silver with
a hint of blue. They are large, round, and deep like
the sea must look to those in the heavens. Her pale
ivory skin glows gold like others similarly touched. Her
build is slight befitting a young woman, with a modest
bossom, lithe arms, and toned legs. Her nose is petite,
pert, and sits neatly between two sharp cheekbones.
Her lips are full and pouty, somewhat at odds with the
rest of her small face. If you catch her smile, bright
teeth are visible and her eyes close in a joyful squint.
Her auburn hair rests just past her shoulder blades,
touching where wings might sprout.
Role
The Daughter of Heuladra Triandowe

She was born with the brightest blue eyes her mother had ever seen,
meaning surely she was not the daughter of the man Heuladra Triandowe
was married to and shared her bed with. It must have been that night
of too much wine with the silver-tongued singer. He had been everything
she never sought in a man: lean, sussed, clever, with a mind only for
passion and lust. Nothing like her husband, a broad, sober, and quiet
man with a devotion to his brothers among the ranks of the Maran. The
child would be known immediately as an act of betrayal and so Heuladra
did what other virtuous women would do when saddled with the
ramifications of a moment of weakness, she lied to her husband Garraign
when she saw him next, explaining to him that she had lost the child
while he was at war.
Garraign was beside himself and wept for days. Heuladra slipped the
child away to the orphanage in Galadon. When asked for a name of the
girl she was abandoning, Heuladra hummed a tune sung by the father of
the child before they laid together, Derrideigh was the nonsensical
refrain and without taking another thought to give the girl a proper
name, she left in shame and never saw the child again.

Derrideigh, or Derri as nearly all the other orphans called her, was
a comely young girl who made fast friends. She helped around the
orphanage, learning to cook and putting the younger children to bed.
She was just ten years old when her absent-minded singing first caught
the attention of the adults she was in the care of, 'angelic' was the
trite adjective most regularly used to describe her voice. It did not
hurt that with a cherubic face, sparkling blue eyes, and bright red
hair, Derrideigh looked the part of a future chanteuse.
She was brought into the elder orphan childrens choir and given a
solo to perform for the benefit of the Blood Tribunal, who funded the
orphanage and took many elder orphans into their ranks as cityguards.
Derrideigh noticed right away that members of the Tribunal were
different than the priestesses of the Light she was raised by. The
Galadonian Magistrate himself was in attendance, a necromancer by the
name of Kirrian Dabhel who was accompanied not only by lieutenants but
by nearly a dozen zombies and skeletons, who sat quietly as Derri and
the other children sang for their masters pleasure.
'Like a voice from the Azure fields, that one' said the necromancer,
who grew weary of Derrideighs song after less than a stanza. He had
been there only to draw out a thief who had escaped the law one too
many times. Kirrian spied his prey and realized that while he could
abuse his powers and mark the man a criminal, he would be denied the
pleasure of observing the thief be torn asunder by his undead
creations before joining them in service.

When the Magistrate left Derris song before it was done, she was
unsure why but recognized that she must had done some wrong to insult
her host and the orphanages patron. Rather than making her way back
to bed with the others, she slipped away and attempted to trail
Kirrian, realizing he had headed north. Derri left Galadon for the
first time in her life.
She didnt have to travel too far to see the successful necromancer
mercilessly tormenting his prey. It was a horrid sight, as the young
man was ripped asunder with skeletons clawing at his arms and a zombie
chewing at his face. All the while, the man who was nominally the
master of her orphanage was cackling as the macabre scene unfolded.
Screaming and too terrified to return home, Derrideigh ran away from
the horror and stumbled upon the first light she saw, coming from the
Inn of the Eternal Star.
Youth Among the Heralds

That night, Derrideigh hid under a table in the Rabbits Corner. What
had she seen? She made her way through the door quickly as it was a
packed night and then managed to slip out of view before a bouncer
could escort her out. A few hours later before she was discovered by a
kind Herald, who coaxed her out from under the table and consoled her.
'I cant go home, I dont have a home,' Derri said as she cried and
shook in desperation. The Herald, another bard, escorted her to a room
behind the Inn where some of the shops were and allowed her to stay
the night in the backroom of Therethines boutique. The next morning
Derri hummed a tune the bard knew well and the Herald realized right
away she was a young talent. 'You know, you could earn your keep
around here, I just cant have you performing for the evening crowd.'
The next few years flew by quickly, with Derrideigh splitting her time
between visiting her friends in the orphanage at night and singing for
copper at the Inn. The Heralds and the frequent patrons were charmed
by her youth, her voice, and an unflappably upbeat personality. What
extra coins she made from her performances she used to buy food,
saving the meat for her friends back in Galadon where it was less
common to be served to the poor. She sustained herself on bread,
fruits, vegetables, and at far too young an age, a fair amount of
wine. At some point, perhap after a year or two, she found she no
longer had the taste or the stomach for meat.
Years later, Derrideigh would regard these as the best of days. She
was not quite sixteen when on one fateful night her origin, her past,
and her future would come together in the most miraculous of ways.
The Conjurer and The Metamorphosis, Part One
Added Fri Oct 23 18:52:44 2020 at level 25:
Derrideigh had been singing at the Inn of the Eternal Star for more
than six years before the most eventful night of her life occurred.
She was introduced to the crowd as Derrideigh Rhedd, a tongue in cheek
nod to her flame colored hair and in keeping with the alliteration of
her melodic given name.
She was singing an old bawdy tune about a Wood Elf who slept with all
three of the Kings daughters in the same night, each one prettier and
less resistant than the previous one. As the closing verse with a gag
going 'always ask as you never know who is a willing lass,' Derri
spider a familiar face, the Galadonian Magistrate and necromancer,
Kirrian Dabhel.
He was a shell of his former self. No longer dressed in the fine
cloths befitting a member of the Blood Tribunal or surrounded by a
horde of undead guards, she saw a man broken by time for reasons
unknown. He did not recognize her, but began pounding shot after shot
of whiskey as she began her second song, a romantic ballad about a
warrior returning home to his wife after battle on the night they
conceive their first child. Kirrian threw her a copper and nearly
blind drunk after but a song, made his way to the door. Derri noticed
a man get up and follow the necromancer out.

Added Fri Oct 23 18:54:27 2020 at level 25:
Curiosity got the better of her, and as she took her break from the
stage, she followed the two men outside. She saw a conjurer,
mercilessly beating Kirrian to a pulp. Nearly dead, the conjurer began
a summoning ceremony to further torment the pitiful old man, calling
an archon from the heavens. Derrideigh saw a scene that she couldnt
stand for, a brutality without mercy. She made her way to the man who
she was terrified of for nearly her entire life to tend to his wounds
and defend him from whatever pains came next.
It was then that the strike of Light burst upon Derrideigh. It hit her
in the chest. Her eyes lit up in silver flames, and her bright blue
irises became covered in metallics. Her skin flushed and then glowed
unnaturally. Her hair, always like a fire, now floated angelically.
For but a moment, white wings grew from her shoulder blades before
fading away. She became azure-touched.

Added Fri Oct 23 18:55:35 2020 at level 25:
Moments after Derrideigh was changed, the conjurer attempted to bind
her, mistaking her for the archon he had summoned. He was unable to do
so and made to attack her. A bright white shield encompassed Derri and
the conjurer was unable to reach her. The shield also protected the
necromancer and seeing as much led the conjurer to retreat fearing
some god or goddess of the Light had frowned upon his actions.
Not knowing where to turn next, Derri assisted Kirrian to his feet. 'I
have to take you to Galadon, where they will tend to you.' 'No,' he
responded, 'take me somewhere to die and dont let it be there where I
would have to face who I was.' Unsure of where else she should go, she
headed east towards Voralian City. Kirrian realized where she was
escorting him and again called out, 'No, none of the cities, please
I beg you,' so she headed north, unknowingly aimed towards the
Fortress.
As she made her way to colder lands where even from far away she could
see the light it shined down, a man stood in her path. He was older
now, and she never met him before this day, but it would have been her
father had her mother not abandoned her. He was a paladin and a Maran
by the name of Garraign Triandowe.
An Introduction to the Fortress
Added Fri Oct 23 19:01:17 2020 at level 25:
Garraign stared at the spitting image of wife, though younger now than
when he met her. And she never glowed like that. It was uncanny and
unsettling. He thought of how he had been told that he had lost a
child while at war and started to shake in the vision before him.
Could this be that child? And an azure-touched child at that?
'Please help me, he is wounded and refuses to go to the cities,'
Derrideigh said to the knight, completely unaware of who Garraign was.
'Of course,' Garraign examined the man, 'though you should know this
is a wanted criminal, he betrayed his post and while I do not know the
story, he has also forsworn his craft. He was once a necromancer, and
a foul, despised one at that.' Derrideigh looked at Kirrian, weak and
dying. 'I know that,' she said, 'Ive seen him do horrible things, but
now he is but a lost soul that is in pain. Can you help him?'
Garraign was astounded by the mercy this young girl was showing a
cruel being incapable of redemption. Undeserving of it, but this was
the kind of passion befitting an Acolyte of the Golden Sun. It felt
like destiny, and so he responded accordingly. 'Of course. And some
day, I believe you should return here, when youre ready. Thera and
the Fortress need more souls like you.'
An Intermission of General Notes
Added Fri Dec 11 18:20:57 2020 at level 51:
Pausing briefly from the story, there are a few things as a player
to put down about Derrideigh.
Derrideigh is under the sphere of Passion. This is passion for the
Light, passion for living, passion for the arts, and a passion to share
all of these things with anyone who will listen and join her company.
Derri would rather speak to any combatant before moving to combat. Once
she has spoken to someone and they reveal themselves to be unrepentant
and on a dark path, she will either avoid them or attack them in hopes
of driving out their darkness and replacing it with Light. It is wiser
to do this with words than with steel, and so Derri prefers to debate
philosophies before resorting to violence. She is not a reckless
fighter per se, and so will avoid any particular match until she is
assured victory and has no qualms about inspiring others to come to her
aid to see it is so. Derrideigh believes at some point she will be able
to shift the balance of Thera to make the Light so strong as to reduce
or eliminate violent conflict altogether. Good luck, Derri. Her
recklessness and the chaos of passion does manifest in other ways
outside of combat, however.
Derrideigh worships Lady Padwei as her religion aligns with how Derri
feels about both the Light and the question of civilization. Had she
not been changed in a way that has made her azuretouched, it is
entirely possible that Derrideigh would have strongly considered
joining the Outlanders. She finds much of their philosophy persuasive
having seen the inability to protect innocents on the part of the Spire
and furthermore, has seen just how cruel and corrupt a dark soul with
the powers of the Blood Tribunal can be. Having said that, she makes
friends quickly and that will likely get her into trouble, both in her
duties as a Scribe or Acolyte or even leadership in the Fortress where
she has to chastise errant Squires or Maran, and in her friendships
that are numerous and count among them nearly every cabal and many a
gray soul along with even a dark heart or two.
She longs for the great romance of her life and frequently flirts
with other would be suitors. She has committed herself to Hope and to
forswearing despair but should a love come along that would test her
both in her commitments and in avoiding the inevitable loss of love, it
is unclear if she would pass that test.
Early Adventuring Days
Added Sun Dec 27 12:54:15 2020 at level 51:
It was not long after becoming before Derrideigh began to venture on
her own. She introduced herself to Della Dellor'Lion and discussed her
desire to join the guild of Bards. That led to the Academy, and errands
on behalf of various folks before Derri began to seek out friends to
explore Thera and make her way about the world.
Derrideigh made her first mistake early in her adventuring career,
learning that her songs would force others into combat even if they
were of the Light and ones who Derri would never mean to combat. It was
a forest guardian in the past who Derri provoked and then she ran from,
unable yet to soothe them with a different song. The same misstep would
befall her just outside of Darsylon, but more tragically as her friend
stepped up and slew the young elf in defense of Derrideigh. The world
was a much more difficult place to walk in the Light than she had once
thought as a young singer.
Still, Derri pressed on unabated with no guidance to direct her, she
did the best she could within the world she knew. She made friends, she
slew dark hearted beasts, and she spoke to everyone and anyone she met.
One of these early meetings was a Frost Giant Ranger named Trodwick.
She encountered him chopping up blood beasts and dark stalkers but he
did not want to attack her. Instead he simply wanted her to enjoy one
of his steaks. Being a vegetarian, Derri had to decline but offered to
write a poem about how good they were. It was the first original
composition she shared at the Inn, just a few days later when she would
meet a dear friend for the first time, Cedany.
Poem: Steaks from Trodwick
Added Sun Dec 27 12:56:38 2020 at level 51:
When I was a young lass
I never tasted the stew
When I was years older
Meat I foreswore and ne'er chew
Yet in the woods one day
I found myself in shadow
Under a cold blue man
The size of three cattle
He'd slaughtered some beasts
And asked me to feast
On steaks, while I only dine on apples
Now I, vegetarian
Have not had better ouer d'oeuvres
Before, after, on land or on sea
Than the steaks that Trodwick serves
If you see him in the trees
And if you're only as tall as his knees
Enjoy the fresh meats he carves and you deserve
The Days Before the Fortress
Added Wed Dec 30 18:12:14 2020 at level 51:
Early in her days she met the Herald Cedany, who told her of her past in the
Fortress, which felt eerily similar to the concerns of Derrideigh, how do you
balance sharing your joy with others and fighting in a holy war that may mean
battle with the friends you make in life?
But serious discussions were not the primary company kept by Cedany, and Derri
enjoyed sharing songs with the painter and chats on more trivial matters,
including good cocktail recipes and festive decorations. Derri spent much of
her time at the Inn's events and chatting with the Inn's patrons, including
young ones that would grow to be her enemies. Tribunals, battleragers,
outlanders, even Imperials and those of the Scion, Derrideigh talked to them
all, looking to learn what she could about the world.
But she knew where her fate was, and so it was in a short time that she pledged
to the Fortress. The Elder Prophet Ariendil, an old friend of Cedany, made way
to speak to her.
