Description

A thin man stands before you, the thumbs of his rough hands in his belt. His body is hunched slightly forward. His steel grey eyes glance up at you from beneath his hat seeming to see nothing and everything all at once. Wrinkled are beginning to form on his face from years in the sun through he still maintains a glimmer of youthful exuberance. His dirty blonde hair falls down on his face, almost to his eyes. He wears simple, country clothing. The knees of his pants are so worn they are almost transparent. As you look more closely, you see that...

Backstory & Character Traits

Dhanh's origins are unknown to him. His adoptive parents know nothing either,
only that they found him in the forest. He was raised in the village of
Aldevari as a simple farm boy.

He learned at a young age that he was smarter than his parents and brothers.
He thought he should keep this to himself as much as he could. His reasoning
was to let people underestimate him. His brothers did not know, but his
parents caught on before he was even aware of it.

Dhanh got many of his mannerisms from his brothers
His brothers were smart enough to get by in Aldevari, but would have looked
quite ridiculous in a larger city. To Dhanh's superior intelect Aldevari was
a very boring place. At night, when everyone was asleep, he dreamed of grand
adventures.

One day, when Dhanh was seventeen, his brothers picked on him for being
stupid. Dhanh had decided he had had enough. He tried to explain he had been
mart all along and had feigned his dimwittedness, but his brothers were too
dense to listen. His brother said if he was so smart he should go join the
transmuters guild at the academy. Dhanh wanted adventures, he knew he was not
stout enough to be a soldier, and thought this was a great idea. He turned on
the spot and headed to the academy.

Some things I learnt.

My guildmaster said I ought ta start writing a journal, but ta tell ya tha
truth, I ain' too good at keepin' up with it.

I sorta fell into a lil' trap a' m'own doing. Growin' up in Aldevari made me
feel like I was so smar'. I guess I still ga a lot ta learn. See, this
'ssassin wanna pair up with me an' this svirf thief. I told I'd be ok with it
'long as we didn' kill no innocents an' his hear' wasn't dark. He said he
wasn' and we wouldn' so we wen' off and adventured. Turned out that 'ssassin
wa' pure evil after all. I don' know why he never killed me, guess he was
usin' me to please his guildmaster. Anyway, boy did I feel duped. I guess I
got a lot more ta learn.

I also learn'd a lotta incantations and whatnot from the guildmaster. They be
comin' in real handy. I wa' walkin' down the eastern road, an I found a woman
goin' inta labor! There wan' no one 'round far as the eye can see, so I
guess'n I was gonna have to d'liver that baby! Well, I slowed down her
metabolbalism an' I enlarged her! Bet that was the easiest delive'ry this
side of the Aryth Ocean thar ever been.

I also been noticin' there's lots a evil prowlin' 'bout. I've walked through
a few torched villages and what not. Been doin' what I can to 'elp out, but
they don' leave much ta sort out. Jess body parts. I can't let that be
happenin' no more. Turns out, the gods favorin' me, 'cause I got this 'ear
letter tellin' me they need people over at the Fortress a Light. So I'm gonna
seek them out, see how I can 'elp fight the darkness.

More spell uses.

I'm tryin' ta be better 'bout writin' in this darn journal. Guildmaster said
it'll 'elp me out, but I don' know how. Well, here's what's been goin' on.

I took them steps needed to join the Fortress. I talked ta this nice lil'
lady, named Amada. I think I charmed her a bit. Tried ta get a 'ppointment ta
see that Cardinal, but he was busy, an he left before I got my shot. Hope ta
see him again soon.

Oh! I got chased by this band a cut-throats. Went runnnin' through Voralian
City, I did. Well, my feet were pretty tired, but I got ta one a dem squares.
Well, I didn't know what else ta do, so I hardened my skin and stood in the
fountain. Them guys ran by me! Thought I was a statue, but then a bird came
and dropped a little present on me. I couldn't believe it.

I wen' down ta Hamsah Mu'tazz. Went an' tried ta buy some steaks at the
butcher's shop. Now, I like my steaks 'bout medium. The ones he handed me
were still bleedin'. I told him I wasn' goin' ta pay for that mess, he tried
ta argue they were medium. Well, ya know what I done. I slapped 'em on the
counter and incanted my disrupt flesh spell ta show 'im they weren't hardly
cooked at all. He had meat splattered all over him.

I was walkin' round in the grove and found this young boy. He fell outta a
tree an broke his legs. I slowed him down and luckily I had two staves on me.
I used 'em to splint his leg. All I had to do then was make 'im fly and I
pulled 'im along behind me 'till I got him home. Nice young boy, I hope his
leg heals.

Fortress observations.

Added Fri Jul 27 03:32:00 2007 at level 33:
I have joined the ranks of the Fortress and although I am still very green to
the Fort, I have some concerns. I don't feel that I've gotten enough guidance
from the Cardinal. He inducted me into the Fort and for that I am grateful,
but he has yet to tell me what he expects from me. I feel that a leader
should do this. I feel that I am competent to know what I should do as a
scribe, but do not feel that the leadership is quite there. It seems to me
that this is a bit of a militaria organization, though the rank structure was
not explained to me.

Here are the things I would do if I were in a position of leadership.

1. When a new member is inducted they shall first be given an orientation.
This orientation will first show them where everything within the fort is
located. Next an explanation of the leadership positions and who holds these
positions.

2. Next the scribe should be explained what is expected of him or her. For
instance, if the Cardinal wants the scribe to pre-interview applicants, who
they should shy away from, and who they should look to for inspiration.

3. Lastly the new scribe should be given a set of tasks to do if there are
things that the Cardinal thinks ought to be done. For instance, tell the
scribe to focus some time on recruiting or converting evil to good or
evangelizing.

4. Given initial instructions on how things are done here, concerning raiding
and defending. I am smart enough to have figured some of it out, but other
things are unclear to me.

One positive thing was that I was given a task. I was told to read all of
the books in the hall of light for as a scribe I must understand the aspects
of the Maran to help guide them. During this reading I read about the duties
of leadership and I noticed that throughout my entire life since entering my
guild, I have never seen the Elder Prophet of the Light. I feel that the
Cardinal is overburdened as it is. I don't even know who the Prophet is, I
hope he isn't lost. What I am trying to say is that we need someone to help
lift the burden off of the cardinal, perhaps then things will be more
organized around here.
