Description

Before you stands a diminutive human with sickly yellowish-white skin and bloodshot eyes. He is small and walks hunched over with a very slow gait. There is nothing about him that is attractive. His fingers are too long for his body size and his ears are tiny and appear to have been slightly mutilated. His nose is too large for his face and the left side of his face is caught up in a permanent sneer. His speech is slurred as the facial feature limits his ability to speak clearly. Hate fills his eyes as he looks around the world that has turned its back on him. His clothes are tattered and not taken care of very well. He also smells as if a bath has been needed for quite some time.

Prevail Against The Curse (Part 2)

Added Sat Apr 25 17:04:52 2009 at level 51:
Not long goes by and you experience the memory of an insatiable voice
speaking with the man. The voice whispers words of challenge to the
disfigured man, and he accepts what she says. The disfigured man is told to
find an item of great power that can be used to despoil for the Dark Queens
pleasure. The challenge is that he must bring her a better item than another
mage. The disfigured man nods and transforms himself into the crag soarer
and flies off in search of an item of truly great power. The lizard flies
north and comes to a place teeming with magi. He looks about and finds one
that holds something he knows will reap great rewards. He transforms into
the shape of a tiger and attacks the magi, bringing him to a dark oblivion.
Having taken the life of the powerful mage, the deformed man looks about the
corpse and takes the item he shall give the Dark Queen.

With item in hand the disfigured man makes his way to the chasm, where the
insatiable Dark Queen, Mergulla is standing. He hands her the item and
watches as she turns the magic with dark power to her benefit. The
disfigured mans eyes light up with desire as he watches the dark magics
consume the item. The Dark Queen nods and sends him on his way saying that
she will now see what the other mage brings her.

The third memory is just a voice, echoing in your head. It asks if you are
ready to face the challenges of the night. You hear the response and are
quickly infused with newfound dark powers. It would appear that he won. You
think to the past and realize he didnt just win against the other
challenger, but against the feline magi who disregarded his strength and
attempted to curse him again.

Prevail Against The Curse (part 1)

A series of memories flood your field of vision. They seem to occur for a
few months since your last vision.

The first memory seems to take place in a dark guild. Two magi stand near
one another. One of them is the deformed man. The other magus appears to be
speaking with the deformed one and asking him a series of questions. You
notice off in the shadows a set of red eyes and quickly you surmise this is a
different mage of the Eternal Night. The normal looking mage appears to be
pleased with the answers the deformed mage is uttering. As the two magi are
finishing up a large lion walks into the room and claws our deformed mage in
the gut. The deformed man quickly turns into a diamondback rattlesnake and
flees from the guild, injured. He transforms into a lizard once outside and
flies to the plains nearby. He quickly heals and uses wands to put
protections around him. He then takes flight again and finds that the lion
is now fighting tiger. The tiger transforms into a crocodile and the lizard
lands lightly in the center of the town. He quickly transforms into a tiger
and rushes to the guild, biting the lion in his hindquarters, tearing tendon
away from bone. The lion roars in outrage and transforms into a porcupine,
but is quickly subdued into running for his life. The porcupine reverts to
his natural form and sends himself away from the fray. You notice that when
he reverts it is the feline figure from the last vision.

Once the fray is finished the two magi revert to their normal shapes and the
normal magi nods at the disfigured man. He tells the man that he will speak
with the Dark Queen about him and they part ways.

An attempted curse.

A few years go by...

Thick trees shroud this forest in the darkness of their shadows as giant
spiders crawl toward the silhouettes of three figures. It is easy to spot
the disfigured youth who has grown to be a man. The second figure stands on
two legs like a man, but has some very feline features including a tail.
Darkness shrouds him and his clothing bears the arcane symbols of a master
mage. The third figure is nearly invisible within the darkness of the trees.
The air seems to swirl about it and a pair of red eyes can be seen peering
at the pair. It flexes its claws from time to time and you realize this is
one of the legendary Cculgra.

The two mages seem to be speaking with one another. The feline figure
clearly not all that interested in the conversation as he puts his hand out
to the disfigured man. The disfigured man reaches into his cloak and pulls
out a dagger that glows with magical power. He hands it to the man and nods,
satisfied at what he is giving him. The feline figure nods in return and
utters a word, then slips the dagger into his own cloak with a smirk. Anger
can be seen in the eyes of the disfigured man, but he does not open his
mouth. Instead the feline man offers the man a question and he answers it
quickly. The feline man nods his agreement to the question and then says two
words and dismisses the disfigured man with a wave of his hand. A sneer
appears upon the lips of the disfigured man as he stands there, deciding what
to do.

He utters a word twice and his movements seem to become much quicker. The
man then concentrates for a moment and quickly before you is a tiger with
large claws. He bites the arcane man and roars as the Cculgra attacks him
in retaliation. The feline man transforms into a lion and begins to claw and
bite as well. The tiger becomes hurt and flees to another location, suddenly
becoming a large diamondback rattlesnake. The snake coils while the feline
figure calls forth a dark portal of black magic. At this point the snake
again transforms into a small lizard with wings and flies off into the
distance.

As the crag soarer flies away the feline figure can be seen shaking his fist
and muttering curses upon him. You clearly hear him yell at the lizard that
he will never know the power of the Scions of Eternal Night. He tells the
man who is now far off that his mighty power shall keep him from the chasm,
and that he will be the next Chancellor of the Night. The disfigured man
laughs and clearly says to himself, "Itt would saeem, dear Flimbertt, tthatt
you know very litttle of the curssed, or ttheir will to prevail. Ssttronger
foess tthan you have ttried and nott ssucceeded."

Running From The Curse

Added Sun Mar 29 19:21:03 2009 at level 21:
A few months later...

Night has fallen upon the golden city of Voralia. Peacekeepers can be seen
walking the streets. They stop to wake a drunken sailor and direct him
toward the docks. As their backs are turned a short cloak figure moves out
from the entrance to the school. The figure shuffles along, as fast as his
legs will allow, but has to duck into the next house opening as the
peacekeepers have resumed their rounds. The figure makes his way slowly from
doorway to doorway, avoiding the prying eyes of the peacekeepers. Night
seems to favor this figure, as he is small and dressed in dark clothing. As
the figure makes his way down the avenue of faith a small light catches him
in the face, revealing the disfigured youth. He has a pack on his back and
he seems to be making his way out of the city. It is easy to see why he
would move at night as his disfigurement is less pronounced in the dark hours
when light cant reveal some of the more hideous features. He makes his way
out of the southeast gate of the city and heads south down the Bramblefield
Road. From there he reaches the Large Crossroads of the Eastern Road and
heads eastward toward Hamsah Mutazz. The boy makes his way to the river
path as he clearly has studied a map of the road.

In the early hours of the morning, just before light the boy shuffles out of
a boat and onto North Khalid Road. He is hungry and exhausted and finds
himself sitting down to rest on what the locals call the Street of Guilds.
As the light begins to break over the city a cat makes its way to the
entrance of the street and stops to sniff the hungry boy. The cat is
startled at the boys appearance but a smile crosses the boys face as he
looks at the cat. The boy gently strokes the head of the cat and says to it
that he wishes he could move about freely like the animal does. As the boy
finishes saying these words the cat amazingly transforms into a person. The
boy is astonished at the ability of this man and his hunger for food no
longer seems to bother him. He is instead hungry for knowledge that this man
might teach him. The disfigured youth tells the man his story and the man
takes pity on him, not knowing the intentions of his heart. The boy has
found a place where he can learn to transform himself into another being
all-together. He has found a way to be beautiful, and he will find a way to
kill those who tormented him. An evil sneer appears upon the boys face as
he daydreams about the screams of his tormentors.

The Curse Of Being Different

Added Sun Mar 29 19:19:37 2009 at level 21:
A few more years...

Shouts of excitement and laughter can be heard through the courtyard of the
school in Voralia. The children are outside in the warm sunlight playing
with sticks and pretending to duel one another. A small boy sits off to the
side with his hood up, in spite of the heat coming from the sun. He is
reading a book with pictures of animals and looking about at the small
animals that can get in and out of the fences. He notices a small hare
eating a piece of carrot that was leftover from his lunch. He is engrossed
in watching the animal and suddenly everything goes black. He awakes to find
himself surrounding by children and a stone is lying next to him with a trace
of his blood upon it. When the children realize he has come to they start to
snicker and one of them claps a bigger boy on the shoulder. The larger boy
steps forward and kicks the sickly child in the midsection. The other
children cheer and shout out things like "freak" and "beast."

After a few moments one of the teachers comes running to the boy, but the
damage has been done. The boy is hurt and his world is turned upside down.
Somewhere in the pain he began to hold onto a hatred for the children, and a
desire to take their lives. The children were forced to apologize to the
boy, but he could see the truth in their eyes. They didnt mean a word of
what they were now saying to him. The sickly boy envied them, they were
handsome and pretty, and he was pathetic and weak. From that day forward the
boy closed off from the outside world even more. He spent all of his free
time watching the animals and reading books. He was the smartest of all the
children, but none of them cared very much about his intellect. He was a
freak to them, and he knew he would never be accepted. He wanted what they
had and slowly the hatred and envy turned his heart toward dark and
disturbing thoughts.

The Curse Of Fear

Added Sun Mar 29 19:18:01 2009 at level 21:
A few years later...

The sun is shining brightly and the birds are singing their beautiful song
from the trees at the base of the mountain. The young boy and his mother
walk hand in hand from the fortress of gray stone. The boy wears a cloak
with a hood to hide his fast. The pace they move at isnt great as the boy
shuffles along next to his mother. She takes a moment to smile down at her
precious boy and continues to walk beside him, motioning to the trees and the
singing birds. They take a moment to stop and look at a deer that is
drinking water from the nearby streambed. The boy seems especially drawn
toward the animal. After watching the deer for a few more moments the mother
pulls her son along and makes their way across the lush farmlands to the
Shepherds road. A number of families can be seen walking along with their
young children in tow heading toward Voralian City.

The parents make their way toward the school with their children. The young
mother and her slow son also make their way. Laughter and talking can be
heard from outside of the school and the mother bends down to say reassuring
things to the boy. A small look of worry overcomes her features as she
realizes that he is so different. The woman utters a small prayer hoping
that he will be accepted and treated well. The pair makes their way into the
school and the mother speaks with a large man who appears to be the
headmaster. The headmaster bends down and takes a look at the child and
winces slightly, but covers it up quickly with a smile. The mother allows
the headmaster to lead her son deeper into the classroom and as they make
their way through the entrance a small gust of wind catches the hood of his
cloak. As the cloak moves back one of the children sees the face of the
disfigured boy and cries out in fear. The headmaster quickly moves the hood
back into position but the boy is already sobbing. The parents of the other
children bend down to tell them that things are ok, and to be nice to the
disfigured boy. They have a lot of respect for his parents. The diminutive
boy is already hurt though, and upset with his mother for bringing him here.

A Cursed Beginning

Added Sun Mar 29 19:16:39 2009 at level 21:
The wind blows strong down the slopes of the mountain taking snow and debris
with it. A heavy snow falls upon the snowy peaks and a large gray structure
can barely be seen through the dense white flakes. As you approach the
well-lit doorway to the Fortress of Light screams of a woman in pain can be
heard quite clearly. The Maran TaraBal stands aside as two elf healers
coming rushing in from the outside. They make their way to the Hall of the
Acolytes and through the pale gray corridors to the council chambers that
have been turned into a makeshift infirmary. The pregnant woman lies on her
back against a number of pillows and her husband kneels beside her whispering
soothing sounds into her ear. The woman is smiling between the moments of
pain that are accompanying the childbirth. The elves kneel down and prepare
a place for the delivery of the child. One of the elves takes a damp cloth
and wipes away the womans sweat while the other lets the woman know the
status of the birth. After awhile of pushing the head of the baby comes out,
followed quickly by its shoulders and the rest of the body. The baby is
covered in a sickly green fluid and there is a foul smell about it. The
elves gasp as they turn the baby over and behold the face of the child. The
child is severely malformed and undersized for a human child.

Seeing the outcome of the curse the Lich uttered, the new father stands and
bellows out a warcry of anger against the lich. The mother of the child is
the only one who doesnt look on her son with fear and disdain, but instead
cries with joy and holds the child. The new mother tries to calm the father,
but he is angry and will not hold the child. He instead draws his sword and
makes his way to the entrance of the Fortress. The new mother cries in
anguish, as her love does not care for the child.

Far to the east a heavy rain falls upon the streets of the Imperial City.
The Vanquisher turns and listens as a rasping cackle can be heard emanating
from the Throne Room. The cackle is soon joined by the loud laughter of the
Imperial Council as they hear the news of the birth.

A Cursed Night

Added Sun Mar 29 19:15:13 2009 at level 21:
A soft rain falls upon the darkened streets of this large city. The winds
blow a little more than usual, but nothing that would raise any suspicion.
Shouts and cheers can be heard coming from the northeast as a major night of
competition draws a large crowd to the arena. People are excited as they
move about the city and their favorite heroes compete. People from all walks
of life have come out to observe the fighting. As you make your way into the
arena you notice a nice looking human couple holding hands and cheering on
the storm giant Paladin who is fighting in the Arena against a gaunt,
skeletal figure with some sort of crown upon its head. You arent sure if
it is the Empress, or that other lich, but as you look upon the Imperials in
attendance you can see that some are jeering at the Paladin and cheering on
the lich. A few others have a look upon their face as if they dont care
either way about who wins. The human couple stands with a mottled crew of
elves and other lightwalkers who must be the Fortress contingent. As the
woman turns to look your way you notice that her belly protrudes awkwardly
from her body. You surmise that she must be pregnant and so the other man
must be the father.

The Paladin continues to fight valiantly but in the end is vanquished by the
overwhelming power of the Lich. As the Paladin makes his way from the bloody
chambers the others of his kind swarm about him and check him out for lasting
injuries. The Lich walks into the throng of Imperials and allows them to
cast their praises upon her. The expectant father becomes angry and turns
toward the Imperials shaking a gauntleted fist at them. He yells out curses
upon their conquests in the name of Lady Baernika and challenges them to face
the lot of them. The god-like figure that is overseeing the games turns to
the father and makes it clear to him that there will be no fighting outside
of the arena. The Lich having heard enough from the father walks over toward
the group. The good-natured members of the fortress boldly stand face to
face with the Lich. A smirk appears on the decaying lips of the Lich as it
casts its glare over the group. The lich notices the pregnant woman and lays
a hand on her belly. Before the woman can pull away from the touch the Lich
utters a phrase of dark magic and a small flash of sickly green light appears
between the skeletal fingers of the lich and the belly of the woman. The
woman screams and crumples to the ground as the elven healers rush about her.
elves assure the man that she is ok, and the baby is still alive, but
they do not know what else might have happened. Only time would tell.
