Description
Diri is unusually dirty and scarred for a gnome. In fact,
several wounds are in various stages of healing all over her
body. Burn marks cover her hands and face, her eyebrows
are burned right off, leaving red singed stripes over her eyes.
She is oblivious to the various trinkets literally falling
right out of her pockets. Tangled black hair, which is matted
to one side in a knotted mess and tied back behind her head,
randomly falls over her eyes as she jitters about.
Her button nose is red and angry, as if it had been hit one too
many times. Her thin, tightly lipped mouth is drawn taught with
determination, as if Diri is in deep thought and forced concentration.
She moves and acts not so much like a gnome, but like a captive
bird longing to fly, constantly moving and fidgeting in her own skin.
Now and then she giggles to herself and taps her chin, as if
some kind of hysterical plan is hatching in her devious mind.

Age 1
The short man waddled back and forth, screaming and yelling in
what seemed like random garbles. Every few words she would hear
what she thought was her name, "Diri". A woman, shaking her head
back and forth in rhythm with the little fat man, kept trying to calm
him down. Each time they passed, baby Diri took a spoon full of
whatever slop they forced her to eat, and flung it in front of their
predictable, repetative, booorring path.
When the short fat man finally slipped on the slop, grabbing a
small table on his way down and flinging a candle halfway across
the room, setting fire to some curtains... Baby Diri laughed so hard
she peed all over the cat which was under the chair she was strapped in.
Age 2
Diri finally understood what the heck the short fat ones were saying;
she wished she could go back. They were soooo BOOORRINNNNGGG. They
would talk about the crops, the cat, what the little female one was
making for dinner and what the little fat one was planting in the
garden for next season. Ughh!! They had gotten used to Diri leaving
her toys "strategically" around the house, such simple pranks couldn't
amuse her, nor entertain her, any longer.
At this age Diri was able to climb, squeeze, sneak, and do anything
in her power to get away from the boring boringness of Hillcrest to
find something - really anything - of interest to do.
She snuck passed the gates of Hillcrest one day - those guards are
so stupid - and decided to take the cat for a 'walk'. Really, Diri was
simply dragging the cat along the ground. She was itchy. Diri noticed
the cat was quite good at jumping. Diri, not so much. She had an
amazing idea. She fashioned a harness around the cat, glued on some
small mesh wings attached to some sticks and twigs, and took the
cat to a dark meadow not far from the gates of Hillcrest. She figured
she would attach herself to the cat harness, the cat could jump
after a bird and then wheeeeeeeeeee! She'd go flying! Fun!
Turns out, the bird was an eagle, and the eagle lifted the cat straight
off the ground, Diri attached! Before she knew it, she came crashing
through the roof of someones house, the booooring couple inside
screaming in surprise. Diri shouted, "again! again! again!"
The cat was never found. Oh well! New cat soon!
The Chronicles of Diri Dauntless Age 3 - 30

Age 3
Diri was a rampaging toddler at this point. Her stupid slooow
boooorrrring father took her away from riding a pony she had found
near the pine forest. It was so much fun! The pony kept trying to kiss
Diri in the face as she was riding it. SO cute! She had fashioned a
specially made jeweled harness for it using her mothers junk she found
in a box near her bed, with extra special shielding made from her fathers
scrap leathers that he kept laying around the house to keep the pony
facing forward. Fun! Her stupid parents didn't think so, but whatever!
Somehow, (no surprise) her slow boorrrrrring father had been permanently
disabled while trying to "save" Diri from riding the dire wolf pony. Stupid!
So not fun! Why are they always messing up Diri's fun? Now if he would
have tried to ride it like she showed him, MAYBE he would be okay and
not have gotten eaten by the nice furry pony.
Age 4
One bright, sunny, boooorrring day, the Chatelaine appeared at Diri's
doorstep. Diri was grounded for mixing a bunch of chemicals in the mine
near Hillcrest and setting the (new) cat on fire. I tried to explain to my
parents that it was magical chemical, and the cat would be just fine!
Anyway, the Chatelaine explained there was something special about Diri.
DUUHHH!
She offered me adventure and all the supplies I could shake a stick
at in order to build more elaborate trinkets and gadgets. Oh how I loved
to tinker! She told me that I'd have an opportunity to show off my special
stuff in a super special traveling carnival. Whooooohoooooo!
The Chatelaine added a bunch of mystical stuff about plane skipping blah
blah blah blah, Diri didn't care, it was all stupid. Buuuut, the Chatelaine did
make the Managerie sound waaaaaay more exciting than Hillcrest.
Well, anything does, really. But boy, this strange elf-lady with a whip
and a tophat seemed like she knew what she was talking about.
Diri didn't think she would miss her parents, or the second cat, not one bit!
Diri wasn't really even that sure she really loved them. Or anyone maybe.
But she was super excited to run off on an adventure with this mystical
whatever and do exciting things like blow things up!
Age 30
Diri has spent her time in the Menagerie learning how to do all manner of
dangerous stunts to delight and amaze the Menagerie visitors. Excelling at
tinkering, she learned to make all kind of exciting and crazy contraptions
to give the acts the 'wow' that the crowds were looking for. Even then, Diri
was getting bored bored bored. There just has to be something so
death-defying, that it would simply be incredible to witness! Something so
thrilling audiences would be talking about it for all time! Something so
impossible, that maybe, perhaps, it could possibly cause serious bodily harm
and injury - or something. But it would sure be fun!
Being bored, blowing stuff up, and a stroll in a desert

Age 62
Diri doesn't really remember her parents. She really hasn't even missed them.
Diri had been so booorreed in Thera Prime. Stupid gnomes. Stupid boring
Gnomes in the boringest boring village ever, ever! She didn't miss any of them.
Not even a little. What she does remember of Hillcrest is far and distant,
like a bad nightmare. What she DOES remember is that it was soooooooo
BOOOORRRRIINNNNNGG. The Managerie is WAY more exciting! Well.. Was.
Diri had been working on her new launching cylinder, practicing with giant
balls, or something, Diri had found while playing in this nest in the Dranettie Wood.
She had been launching them waaaaaaayy up into the air. They were landing
somewhere, she wasn't sure, but she is sure that the balls are just fine! Maybe
someone will find one and play with it.
ANNNNnnnnnyywayyy. She was so excited to use her launcher! Fun!
Diri made the proper adjustments for her diminutive size, donned her rocket
helmet (to which she attached flight goggles, naturally), and decided
to give the launching cylinder a shot (no pun intended) since the
Menagerie was moving soooo booorrrringlly slow and being boring on
the way to the next audience that would be dazzled by her show! Yay!
While the Caravan trudgingly and slooowwwllllyyy made its way
through the desert, Diri aimed the launcher into the sand dunes,
figuring that if she didn't get blown up in the process, she would at least
land in the soft dunes and (maybe) be safe!
She closed her eyes and tried to envision what it would be like to soar
like an eagle through the air. What a thrill it must be!!! She felt a
sudden sense of deja vu right before the BOOM! And WOOOOSSHH
as she was propelled at break neck speed from the Caravan.
While flying through the air, a dazzling display of colors swirled around
her, like in some kind of vibrating vortex. As if all time stood still, she floated
through the air, the biggest grin spread ear to ear across her face as her hair
whipped through the wind from underneath her incorrectly worn helmet.
That was.. until she looked down and saw the ground rapidly approaching.
Diri spotted what looked like a giant cactus right in front of her. Oh no!!
Diri tucked into a cannonball and crashed her way through the porcupine like
needles of the cactus. Ouch!!! That hurt! She thought to herself as she
plucked spines out of her rear. Diri pondered her landing strategy while she
trudged through the soft sand dunes, still picking spines and rubbing sore spots
when she noticed she seemed to have lost her direction.
She was sure the Menagerie wagons were . . . this way? NO wait.. This way..
She retraced her steps, calculating the trajectory of the launcher arc.. spinning
in circles while looking up into the sun. She was sure, absolutely sure,
the Menagerie should be right here. But, they are just.. Gone. Whoa.
Oh Well! Adventures and Tinkering await! Just NOT in Hillcrest!
Age 84 and Corpulous the Devourer

Ainaele Twilightsong had caught up with Diri at the Inn of the Eternal
Star. It seems that Diris memory is still very foggy. She has remember
more about the day of the Menagerie disappearing, but whatever. She
has taken quite the liking to tinkering. She has made dozens of
schematics for all of the folks she has interacted with over the years
here in Thera.
She has met a fortune teller, a acrobat, a fire eater, a puppet master
and a myriad of other performers from the Menagerie. Even Doc
Pendleton Jarvis came to Diri and welcomed her to Thera Prime,
Officially, even if she was born here. In Hillcrest. Pffft!
One of the freaks in particular, Corpulous the Devourer, was a muse to
her tinkering extravagance.
She figured that he is SOOO busy eating, that he hasn?Aot time for anything
else. . . Which is SUPER boring.
So she devised a contraption to allow Corpulous to wander the lands and
go on grand adventures! Corpulous seems excited. Or. Really. His version
of excited.
The Plans would require a feed sack, a grapple hook, a conveyer belt, a
silver crank, two spindle wheels, two lightweight gossamer straps.
The straps would wrap around Corpulous, as he breaths the
straps would spin the wheels, working the conveyer belt
and grapple hook. The grapple hook would pull food out
of the feed sack, put it on the conveyer, and feed it
directly into the Corpulous maw.
Diri can make the parts of the converted knapsack, but she cannot
actually assemble the knapsack without a cross talent that the Lucky
Lord Whiysdan said he would help out with. The Lucky Lord is not so bad,
she is learning more about the 13, and what importance it might have
in her life. Diri, if anything, is lucky!
In the end, a converted feed bag attached to a silver cranked
conveyer belt is what Diri hopes to build.
Age 142, Olaf and Eralsodiz

Soooooo many adventures to be had! So much fun for Diri!
She has taken a liking to leading others around the lands,
to see the sights and most dangerous beasts around!
She has escaped death SOO many times, Just barely! Lucky!!
Sometimes her friends do not seem to make it. Sometimes they get mad!
She does not mean it! Really! But doing things that are boring is SOOO boooooring. No thanks!!
Whatever. Why should she care so much about everyone else all the time.
not like any of them really ever cared about HER. It is not like
she wants them to get beat up! She spent her whole LIFE getting
beat up! She wants them to live! Really does! Plus! They kinda help
kill all the beasties she cannot do on her own. Like Tiamat and stuff.
Adventure!!!
Recently she had taken a liking to two of the strongest she has
met in Thera! Olaf the Strongest Man in the World, and Eralsodiz
the unretired chef of the Eternal Star.
Olaf had taken a few nasty blows to the head while out slaying
some of the tougher beasties in the land. Training Diri figured!
How else would Olaf slay the nasty wererat he was supposedly going
to kill. Instead, Olaf said that Diris magic was evil and all she
cared about was adventure. Well that whole bit about being magic
is STUPID, but whatever! YEAH life is all about seeing new things,
new adventures! New Beasties!! Fun-Having! Exploration!!!
Olaf just wanted to complain about how Diri kept getting him killed.
Diri was not getting him killed! Olaf was getting Olaf killed! Because
he is stupid!
Diri got Olaf this neat amulet that turns his body into
stone. So he could be The Strongest AND Toughest! Stupid Olaf gives
it to Erighan, the Commander of the Village. UGH!! Meat heads!
Needless to say, Diri and Olafs love affair of adventure seriously
waned when Olaf said he wasn?Aot going to use magic anymore. That is just
SOOO stupid, and BORING! Whatever. On to the next adventure!!!
One day Eralsodiz and Diri were in a darrrk deeeeep cave
in the Siege Encampment, and they found a magic portal!
WELL. Diri was not able to go through it yet, and told Eralsodiz
that he ABSOLUTELY MUST go through the portal! HOW EXCITING!!!
Unfortunately, Eralsodiz didn?Aot do well, and was eaten by a devil.
Oops!
Diri came back with the Marshall, Cionadh, and killed the
Devil splat! Good fun!
Diri, in addition to organizing her own dragon hunt, is working
with the Empire to help them become the first to slay Tiamat as well!
Why have ONE Tiamat hunting party when you can have TWO!!
Age 173, Whiysdan, Sindarielle, Marcellus, Daphrdan, Ulamette, Anilsanatne, and Tiamat!

Diri is SOOO excited! In a short time will be the first official
dragon hunt! Well, she has had a couple of unofficial dragon hunts.
BUT THOSE DONT COUNT. I mean, they do, but they really dont. Diri
has pulled some CRAZY stunts while fighting the dragons! But only
a few people saw her death defying feats of amazing talent!
Now she is hoping at least thirteen of the souls she has gathered
to slay Tiamat will show up. She is hoping she can rip through at
LEAST three of the dragons quick like! DRAGONSLAYER!!!
She wants to see if Tiamat is ticklish in the middle of the fight.
That would be fun! Can dragons laugh?
ANYYWAAAYY.
Diri held a Pie eating contest. AND WON! Well. She was the only
participant. BUT STILL. Maybe if she thought of something more fun
more people would show up. She was talking to Whiysdan about launching
herself from one end of the bar to the other. Then from the Bar to
Galadon. Then FROM GALADON TO ARKHAM!!
She hasnt figured out how to build a cannon big enough yet - BUT
DIRI WILL!
Sindarielle and Diri havent been getting along. Not one bit. Sindarielle
is SOOOO mean to Diri. AND SOOOO BOOORRING. She thinks she is SOO special
with her super special talent of reading some STUPID BORING cards.
SO WHAT! She thinks she is SOOO much better than Diri. Why should Diri
care about what she thinks anyway. Not like she Sindarielle cares about
her. Not like anyone really cares about Diri. Why should she care about
anyone else then! PAH! She can have fun without all the boorrrring
no fun havers like Sindarielle and Marcellus.
Diri made friends with the new wight and Shadow Lord. Diri really likes
the Shadow Lord.. and used to like the wight until she (it? are wights its?)
tried to kill Diri. SHE ESCAPED (obviously) but still, it was super fun!
She has been helping the Chancellor of Eternal Night, Anilsanatne.
Anil likes Diri, at least, Diri thinks. Diri wonders if Anil is going
to try to kill Diri once Diri helps her become a lich. Guess we will
find out! Exciting!
Diri has had some good chats with Whiysdan. She feels REALLLY lucky.
SUPER lucky when Whiysdan is around. She loves how fun he is, quirky like
her, and super fun to drink with. Diri wonders how she can be one of
his chosen lucky few, and do all the fun things she gets to do anyway,
like adventtureee, and play gaaammesss, and make triiickkkss, and doo
stuunnnnts, and be death defying!!! . . but without all those silly
rules and religious mumbo jumbo stuff that everyone seems to have to follow.
Thats all sooooo booooooring. Oh. Speaking of boring. Diri teleported
into Hillcrest. THAT was an exercise in patience. She had to sit there
for a WHOLE SECOND before teleporting again.
Age 200, Tiamat, Anilsanatne, Daphrdan, Plane of Shadow, Spoooooky Managerie stuff

SO much has happened in the life of Diri.
One day while adventuring past the Adamantite Portal with
Daphrdan, Diri found an item that Anilsanatne had told her
that she was looking for. IT WAS SO EXCITING!
Diri loves Daphrdan because he is SO much fun, and he is always
nice to her. Diri loves Daphrdan SO much in fact that she promised
her that Diri would get her the Etched Pendant from Tiamat!
ANYWAY. While out exploring the outskirts of the Portal, Diri found
what Anilsanatne was looking for! The Forgotten Eye of a Titan. It
was crystal and beautiful and AMAZING. BUT Diri had to convince
Daphrdan that it was just some useless trinket, because no way she
would give it to Anilsanatne!
So ANYWAY, Diri got the Eye, and gave it to Anilsanate. THEN Anilsanate
and the Eye of Scarab, Kwoalewei, ask Diri to come on an adventure
with them into the Shadow Plane! HOW EXCITING!! This was an incredible
adventure! Diri was attacked by PACKS of Nightgaunts! They were even
getting ready to attack this trader guy named Dolosus who had an awesome
blade of INTENSE light, and then he whips out some mumbo jumbo and says
'Damnant quod non intellegunt.'
Diri think she was calling them stupid, which meant she should attack
him! Anilsanatne and Kwoalewei thought that he said he would be dumb to
attack him, so they didn?Aot. BOOOORRRIINNNNNGG. OF COURSE he said that!
Diri successfully led a party to kill ALL FIVE ancient dragons AND Tiamat!
WHOOOHOOOOO!! The battle was absolutely amazing!! What an awesome adventure
with all of her friends! Only a few died. But whatever! SOO worth it!
ANND she got to tickle Tiamat. She is definitely NOT ticklish.
As promised, Diri was able to get the Etched Pendant to Daphrdan, and
hinted that it might be an engagement present! Diri also gave the
unholy symbol of Tiamat to her friend Anilsanatne. Fun stuff! Diri is
thinks she knows where the last item Anilsanatne needs is located. She
is going to lead the Fortress on an adventure to look around for it.
Exciting!! Anilsanatne thinks it is Ironic, Diri just thinks its fun.
Sindarielle has been talking to the Managerie about this dark evil
force or whatever manipulating the veil and messing with portals.
She called a gathering of all the Managerie to yammer on about it.
The meeting was SOOOO boring. Whatever! Whenever they make up their
mind to go do something about it, Diri is all for the adventure! Lets go!!
Age 235, Sindarielle's Stupid Fortune

Inverted?!?
Diri is SUPER confused. What the heck is this BOOORING elf
TALKING about??? I mean, Diri agreed to listen to the reading,
and she had to sit still for SOOO long. For THAT?
Sindarielle told Diri that she is courageous, almost to a fault.
She told Diri that she needs to think with a leveled mind
and mature in the wisdom of her age as she should. She told Diri
that there is no use in wasted blood if you must be a ghost to
savor victory of exploration!
PAH! Diri is FINE. She is not courageous, she just likes to do FUN
things! If that means she is courageous, then I guess she is! That
just means that everyone else is BORING. And slow.
She is not impatient, she just likes to keep moving! Sitting
around is SOOOO boooooring. She is Death-Defying!!! Adventure!
Excitement!!
Sindarielle just wants to sit sit sit. Sleep sleep sleep. Sit and Sleep.
Sounds like Sindarielle is going to die of OLD AGE and BORDOM.
She told Diri that there is a looming darkness over Diri, that will
consume her unless she undergo a MAJOR change in life.
What is THAT supposed to mean?! If she thinks Diri is going to have
to be all BORING, well that is just STUPID. No way! She says that
my lack of LOVE will be my downfall.
Diri has been feeling a little uncomfortable around Anilsanatne,
Ulamette, and her best friend, Daphrdan. She can?Aot shake the feeling
that they are all plotting to kill her for some reason. Daphrdan and
her have been having a love affair of some kind, but she doesn?Aot seem
to get it returned by her! Diri gave Daphrdan an engagement present, but
Daphrdan does not seem interested! BAH! Whatever! Why should she care
about her if she does not care about Diri!
Sindarielle told Diri that all this is in the cards, unless she grows
to be what she should be, which is the ultimate defender of the menagerie.
What does THAT mean? Defender against WHAT? The Menagerie? The Chatelaine
is BARELY seen, the performers scattered to the winds. Defend WHAT!
Age 235, Super Sneaky Lucky Lord and Adventures!

Sooooooooo. ONE day, Diri was hanging around the Inn, serving drinks
and fun-having when Whiysdan shows up! Diri starts to talk to Whiysdan
like she does because Whiysdan is SUPER fun. Invites the lucky lord down
for a drink!
Diri was just recanting one of her adventures into the Shadow Plane,
and talking about (what little she could without betraying the tower)
her recent incursions into the Silent Tower.
SUPER dangerous place, with all kinds of neat riddles and tricks and
mean things and glowy rooms that radiate all kinds of harmful stuff!
Runes everywhere that Diri has NO idea what they mean, and all kinds of
treasures (that Diri has not tried to take yet), and dream like states
that let Diri wander around her own mind, twisted and adventurous!
ANYWAY, Whiysdan comes down to the Inn where Diri and Chef are talking and
makes Diri look up across the Inn, and he BRANDS her right on the neck with
the lucky lord Tattoo!!
Whiysdan is SOOO sneaky! But SOOO fun! Diri is beaming with pride at
being included in one of the lucky few. She is not sure what she has
done other than be herself, but whatever it is, she is SUPER excited
and SOOO glad! It feels good to Diri to actually BELONG someplace, around
people that are just like her, super fun havers! Maybe these are the
people, people like her, that she can try to love.
Maybe THAT will shut Sindarielle up a little! BAH!!! DARKNESS and DEATH
HER BUTT!! Those cards make NO sense! STUPID booooring sleepy Elf!!
Age 277, Looking for Life, Death is Like, SUP GIRL, and folks are dying.

Diri has been tasked with keeping the INN from BLOWING UP.
Really, Diri thinks this means that Whiysdan does NOT want Diri
to BLOW UP the Inn. She tries!!! Not to, that is. But she still
hasn?Aot perfected her launcher. Nope!!
Diri is kinda banged up and bruised for all her super dangerous
adventures. So much so that even DEATH is like, HEY DIRI! SUP GIRL!
Right. So, Diri is NOT ready for that yet, because, erghm, there is
a whole LOT more to do! She has to go back to the Shadow Plane!
She has to figure some more stuff out! She has more life to live!!!
SHE IS TOO YOUNG TO DIIIEEEEEE!!!!! Not to mention, BOOORRRRRRINNNG!
Diri had a fun chat with Whiysdan asking for a little bit er erghm,
life and whatever, because if she dies, well that would be stupid.
And the Inn is super fun and stuff, and there are new folks to have
adventures with! And stuff. And most of the Managerie is dead. It
is just Diri and Ainele, really.
And who would protect the INN from BLOWING UP!! I mean, some BORING
stupid gnome? UGH! Gnomes are SOOOO boring.
Oh, and Sindareielle is dead.
Oh, and Pendleton is dead. NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! NOT PENDLETON!!!
