Description

Dark and hulking, the massive visage of a fire giant stands before you. Standing a shade under eleven feet tall, his tremendous bulk is enhanced by his battle-hardened muscles that threaten to tear through his armor, which is nearly concealed by a large tattered cloak from the hide of a tundra yeti. His boulder-like head is topped with fiery orange hair, that has been braided into a number of long, thick braids, and tied off with cords of frayed rope. His chiseled jawline sports a matching rough beard, also braided and tied. His skin, a jet-black ebony, is tightly stretched over his powerful, thickly corded body, and is scarred in several places with the remnants of jagged, battle wounds. A broad, menacing grin expose yellowed and blackened teeth, and allows a fetid, rotten breath to escape into the air. Looking closer, you notice:

Dolce Dim - Confidence grows along with Strength

Dolce's younger years were plagued with him being helpless in preventing the
abnormal repetitive behaviors that he suffered from.  As he's grown more
powerful and respected by those he encounters, he's been able to repress many
of these actions.  This can be attributed to the fact that he is less nervous
than he was when he was younger, and he is less often thrust into situations
where he is completely uncomfortable.  However, when he becomes extremely upset,
the behaviors do return somewhat.

He remains inherently distrusting of people around him, even those of his Empire,
as he knows most would take advantage of him if presented the opportunity.  In
order to keep this from occuring, Dolce often takes the offensive stance in a
situation, so that he may maintain the upper hand.  He has learned that it is
better to be decisive than passive in his decision making, as most Therans are
inherently cowardly.  So, he takes advantage of this, showing strength even at
his weakest times, rarely showing mercy, but always showing respect.

Dolce Dim - The Strength of the Empire

Dolce has noticed that the perception of the Empire is very poor.  Many that
he encounters spit and curse at him, call him names, and overall treat him
poorly purely beacuse he wears the badge of Imperial Blade.

His ultimate goal within the Empire is to encourage the members of the Empire
to look within themselves, garner strength from their personal accomplishments,
and use that to strengthen the Empire, instead of utilizing quick and dirty
methods to accomplish their goals.

He believe that if the Empire is respected by the populance of Thera, it will
make recruiting easier - people would flock to the Empire, instead of being
forced into it, though he does understand that force is still sometimes necessary.

He knows that this goal will be difficult to accomplish, and he will encounter
many obstacles in his way - mainly other members of the Empire who have no
desire to change.  He is also aware that if news of his desires was leaked
to the Empress or any Council member, his vision, and his life may be cut
short.

This is a risk he's willing to take.

Dolce Dim - Encouragement from the Heavens

Dolce's mother always encouraged her son to pray, figuring that if her son
believed that a god challenged him with developmental disabilities for a
reason, it would encourage him to concentrate on his actual abilities - what
he can do, instead of what he can't.  (His mother, however, cursed the gods
daily for burdening her with a dumb son).

Dolce clings to this tidbit of wisdom that his mother bestowed upon him, and
prays to his Patron of Strength, Yean, nearly every day.

Dolce has also been further encouraged by the Lady Yean herself, who has
spoken with him on a number of occasions - echoing his mother's sentiments
that one not be intellectually gifted to be a strong, beautiful person.  He
has also learned from Lady Yean that consuming alcohol reduces some of his
erratic behavior, such as shaking back and forth, and his tendency towards
self-injury.

As different as Dolce is from most others he encounters, being both dim
witted and distrusting, it is near impossible for him to make friends, even
with those he sees frequently.  However, he is used to being alone, has
learned to embrace his solitude, and sees it as a way to challenge himself.
A way to learn without always being "taught", which is especially important
since he has trouble comprehending even the most simple directions.

Dolce Dim - Dumb, but aware

Dolce is aware of, but is helpless in preventing, the abnormal repetitive
behaviors (odd or inappropriate movements, self-injury, and compulsions) that
he suffers from.  He can often be found rocking vigorously in place, pacing
around in circles, and slapping himself hard in his chest and face.  These
behaviors are often triggered when he is nervous or agitated - situations
which often occur when he is presented with new stimuli.  He knows these
behaviors cause uneasiness to those around him, but trying to control them
only cause him to become more agitated.  When he is alone, however, it is
often easier for him to control himself.

He is also inherently distrusting of people due to being ill-treated and taken
advantage of by those he's encountered in the past.  He knows that he is
"different" from those around him, and quickly becomes defensive if he is made
fun of or called names.  He tends to repeat what people say to him back at
them to see if they become quickly angered, or if they are more tolerant of
his odd behaviors.  This is a mechanism he's learned to use to weed out people
who might strike out at him on a whim.

Dolce Dim - His mother and his faith

Dolce's chances in life were brutal from the start, even without considering
his mental disabilities.  His mother was an ugly one-armed fire giant working
in an underground brothel near the mines of Akan, known for it's motley
collection of odd-looking and unique "hostesses".  His father was equally as
likely to be a dwarven miner as it was to being an elven aristocrat, though
by the looks of him, it may have been an Orc.

His "home" consisted of a splintered wooden pallet, covered in dirty, matted
hay that was hidden behind a curtain in his mother's "office".  There was no
fresh air, very little light, and nearly no communication with other outside
of the grunts and groans of his mother and her clientelle.


In between her clients, Dolce's mother would attempt to impart what little
wisdom she possessed on her only child - Be strong.  Be brave.  Pray hard.

Dolce, with his stunted mental capacity, holds fiercely to his mother's words
even though she has not prepared him to do so.

Dolce Dim - Character Defining Characteristics

Dolce suffers from a developmental disability that is marked by his lower than
normal intelligence and limited daily living skills.  His disabilities include
a stunted ability to speak and understand, severely limited self-care, self
direction, and social skills, as well as a total lack of basic academic skills,
including reading, writing, and arithmetic.

Dolce's behavior is very erratic and unpredictable.  Hes easily distracted
from what hes doing and unable to attend to a specific activity for any length
of time because of his disability.

Symptoms of his disability also include physical aggression towards others, a
tendency toward self-injury, and erratic mood swings.

On the other side of the spectrum, Dolce physically, is very strong.  He is
able of bearing heavy loads, and tires less easily than most and because of
this, is often treated as an animal, comparable to an ox or strong mule.

He is aware of the differences in treatment between himself and others, and
resents it.
