Description
Standing just over four feet in height, this dwarf is remarkably
clean, and well kept. His beard is well kept and trimmed. Dark
circles around his deep blue eyes show perhaps a window into some
old, deep sorrow. Scarred hands seem to flex out of instinct as
he looks about the room. This head is shaved, and his bald pate
shines almost as brightly as a polished mithril helm. Tree trunk
legs, stand with a sturdy stoicness. There are scars, similar to
those carried by miners, but there are some, particularly a few
sticking out of the neck of his shirt that look to have perhaps
come from a whip, or flog. Looking more closely, you are able
to determine that....
Role
a Dirty Slave
Added Fri Jul 18 14:17:42 2014 at level 1:
"Get up yer fargin dirty bastid." came the rough voice as
it did every morning right before the boot.
Morning, not something I knew of back then. That far under
the ground, in the mines of the Duergar, you can't see the
Sun. The only light given off is by weak candles of some
of those who need to read the ancient texts. It was a lonley
place, no real sense of time other than being fed, and allowed
to collapse, exhausted when the work in the mines was done.
Grunting, I stood slowly. That was the way of a slave, a
balance that had to be carefully maintained. Move too slowly
and get another kick for being slow. Move to quickly and
get a full on beating for being agressive.
I'd been here as long as I can remember. I don't know what
happened to my parents. Some times I can see their faces
in my dreams. Dad's long beard, mothers well kept one. Proud
strong eyes. I could see them, but every dream seemed just
a bit more faded. I was after all, just a dirty slave, what
did I need memories for.
My heart still ached though, sometimes deep in the night I
could feel the pull, the pull to be free of this place, to
be more than a slave. To wash away the grime and dirt, both
on my skin and in my soul.
Into the Light
Added Fri Jul 18 14:20:10 2014 at level 1:
Night, darkness, emptiness. Those three words describe this
part of my life. Fifty years, spent in that. Until one day
the longing came. Something changed, inside me. Hard to
explain to someone who's never been to those depths, both
physically and spiritually. I broke. Some people, most would
probably call them lesser, I'm not so sure, would not recover
from such a break. I'm not overly sure how I did, to be honest.
But I did, and that was what mattered. Like a seed, opening
within my soul. A cleansing seed of light. A spark seems to
mundane to describe it. But it seems my soul was ready for it.
I looked up from the pile of ore at my feet. So long had my
captors beaten me into submission, that often times, like today
I was left to my work. Looking down the hall I saw it. A small
light hovering over a shadowy shape. Not bright enough to burn
my heat sensitive eyes, but enough to let me move them into
the physical spectrum to get a better look at this creature.
Black as night fur covering its sleek body, a long tail swishing
expectantly as it looked at me, its very presence drawing me
closer to it.
As I approached it, glowing eyes look up and stare into mine.
A small huff escaped it's mouth, seemingly accepting me as
it's own. The strange creature brushed up against my thigh
and cautiously, but with confidence I walked next to it, up
and out of what was my life.
I did look back once, as I met the mouth of the cave. Then
the memory of my parents, once faded, was now clear. There
they stood, back in the cave, looking on me with love, and
trust. My father, grinned a toothy grin, and then turned to
my mother kissed her gently, and they walked back into the
tunnel hand in hand.
A Paladin's heart.

I'd never seed water like that river before. Climing up out of
the cave, I crept past dark elves, and a man in gleaming armor.
I drank deeply of the swiftly running water. Years in the mines
my ears had become very keen. I heard the patrollers coming up
behind me. I turned and cringed. The slave inside of me knowing
that resistance only brought pain. Looking at the dark elves
before me, something snapped yet again. I stood straigher, my
hands clenched together in strong fists. An all together unfamiliar
feeling, but it felt right.
If they'd come at me as one, my life would likely have been over.
I don't know, but I am sure that She was with me then. The first
one, a leader perhaps, snarled and came forward. As he swung his
mace towards my head, by reflex I reached up and grabbed at the head.
I'm not sure who was more surprised, but the head of the mace stopped
with a meaty thunk. He tried to yank it back for another swing but
I held strong. Now it was my turn to yank, he came off his feet
easily, tumbling past me he tangled in my robes. With a wet splash
we tumbled into the raging river.
Swept into the currents I slammed my fist into his head on pure
reflex. Time and again, I hit him, we both struggled for air as the
river raged about us. As the speed of the water increased I looked
up and kicked out furiously at the dark elf, pushing him away. That
kick was strong enough to propell me to the banks as I watched his
body, flailing arms and hands fall over the waterfall. Once my
feet were under me, I know standing still would likely be the
end of me. I moved down the trail next to the falling water and
slowly sank into the water at the bottom and drifted south.
I don't know how much time passed, I remember waking up with her
standing over me. I heard voices, they spoke of finding me washed
up on the docks next to the body of the dark elf patroller. Words
were exchanged about hero's and invaders, I don't know who they
were speaking of, but I do remember a whisper in my ear, in between
the prayers being said.
"You've a Paladins heart dwarf. Lets see how it grows." came the soft
femine whisper.
Into the Mists

It seems ages since she first brought me here. Something she
saw in my heart she said. This place felt... right somehow.
On the altar, books, and sayings. Most of them etched into
my soul by now. I could feel their presence in the mists
but until today, they never came near. Maybe they didn't like
how I smelled, or perhaps, it was something deeper. Maybe
I wasn't ready for them.
But almost as one, a group if six jaguar came out of the mists
to where I sat. They circled around me for some time sniffing
and growling gently. I sat still, waiting. Finally they stopped
and one sat before me. Something was oddly familiar about it.
Then it hit me, this was the one that had walked me out of the
tunnels. I looked into it's deep green eyes, there was an
intelligence there that seemed odd for a simple beast. It
nuzzled me briefly, then gently licked at my cheek. Seeming to
signal some sort of acceptance. One by one, the rest of the
six repeated this step.
I was home.
Roleplay Summary
Added Fri Jul 18 14:21:44 2014 at level 1:
Alignment - Orderly Good
A driving force for good and truth, the code is everything to our
hero. He will live its entirety. There is no room for interpretation
in the code. A struggle he will have as he goes through life is
with those who see the code as open to interpretation.
Demeanor -
The slaves place is in meekness. Something that at some levels still
sticks with our hero. He will be slow to anger, keeping those fires
bottled up as much as possible. Less is more with our hero. Soft
spoken, and almost self-abasing, he gives all glory to where he sees
it is deserved. He knows that without her guidance, he would never
have crawled up out of the underdark, and would not be on the path
he is now.
Religion -
His life and experiences to date have put him on the path of the
Lady of the Mists. He is sphere Purity. The unique perspective
of a slave is one that knows that true change, true purity can only
be found within. It is not outside forces that effect the change
that needs to happen. Beatings come, food can be withheld, these
physical and mental trials, while often needed to harden ones self,
are not what effects true change. It is only from within. The goal,
to become pure, is only part of what matters, that the process is
just as important if not more so, than the goal.
Cabal -
Spending most of his time in Voralia, our hero knows of the Fortress
of Light. Once he is ready, he will seek the Brigade. It is his
hope that in putting himself in harms way, he can save even one soul
from having to endure what he has. If he does, his life will not have
been for nothing.
To be Pure
Added Fri Jul 25 11:39:47 2014 at level 20:
The following are the first rules by which our hero will
begin defining his life. As his life evolves more will
likely be added, but these three are the core of how he
will begin to walk the path of becoming Pure.
First, to balance the violence that must come with his
duty and path, Dolindar will forsake all forms of meat.
The harvesting and partaking of meat is a violent act
and this path will help him keep the discipline he will
need to stay on the straight and narrow path.
Second, Dolindar will not partake of strong drink. Strong
drink lowers ones inhibitions, and makes it easier to
make poor choices. Dolindar will not put himself in that
position.
Third, and just as important, Dolindar will be the embodiment
of the Paladin's code. Living all tenets as laws within
his life. These rules are not just guidelines, but more
than that, and must be followed at all costs.
