Description
A small grey boulder lies here, smirking at nothing in particular. It's
rocky formation is arranged in such a way that it resembles a tiny but proud
humanoid. It's clear that someone has chiseled away at it's contours for
some time, giving the gnomish male form a truly life-like appearance. The
detail on his face is astounding, with a sharp nose and strong chin
resembling many ancient statuettes you've seen. Brightly gleaming gemstones
encircle the outside lobes of his ears, likely depicting some sense of wealth
and power. You're certain that this man was a warrior, however, as his thick
build and impressive display of swords on his back lead on. These weapons
are so impressively made that you're almost convinced you could take one and
put it to use. The blades shine in the light just as his eyes seem to when
they're not closed. Hm, how peculiar - magically enchanted blinking eyes...

I found my dad's old journal today! Seems he left it with my things when I
last visited for some odd reason. I added my own comments to some of the
entries in the margins.Sometimes he forgets things!
First Day of the Moon, Month of Long Shadows [I don't think he's
dating these entries right]
Some thugs broke in to the shop last night and vandalized most everything
they could get their hands on. I've become used to this kind of thing -
respect does not come easily for a svirfneblin in a human-centric port city
like Hamsah Mutazz. Hells, even some of the human merchants have trouble
with the various pirates that dock here [I don't know what he's talking about
here, those pirates were nice people with lots of nifty jewelry]. This time
things were different, though. These ones knew what they were doing. Most
everything that was not heavily warded was completely destroyed. The
summoning circles in the back - the ones I've painstakingly kept active for
years - were ruined in some fashion I've never seen before. Even the ground
itself is no longer receptive to my incantations. Worst of all, each one of
my faithful servitors was seemingly released to some realm or dimension I
cannot interact with. Maybe destroyed entirely... I can't even tell.
Donderston [he takes this long to mention me!] was an emotional wreck. He
and 'Podo' - one of my earth elementals he took a special liking to - had
become inseperable. Nothing I could do would calm him down, and it wasn't
until he had exhausted every tear in his little body did he finally fall
asleep.I fear for him more than I feel for our livelihood here. Most of
these artefacts can be easily replaced, but if I cannot find this elemental
again Donderston might never recover. [Podo! Podo was the best.]

Third Day of the Great Gods, Month of the Battle
When we moved back to Cragstone two years ago, things seemed to be better
than ever. Milliara loves it here [Mom hated the heat], and I even got my
old storefront back. However, the sense of community just isn't the same as
it was in the past. I was so pleased to still be greeted as an undersider
after all my years up above, but there are some here that do not place the
arcane arts as highly as they once did.Maybe I'm overthinking things.I
mean, we've always been a bit rougher around the edges than our gnomish
cousins! [Most gnomes don't trust me at first, but they're great friends to
have] And hey, business may not be as good as in the desert, but the climate
here sure is nicer.
It wasn't hard for Donderston to make friends, despite not having been here
since he was a baby. The boy has an engaging personality and his sparring
skill impresses even most of the militia-types.Perhaps it was all that time
he spent trying to wrestle with my elementals! [Only Podo ever beat me, I
tell ya] I've been thinking of enrolling him to train with the illustrious
warrior guild here, actually. Sure, he really knows his way around the shop
and loves tinkering with wands and such, but you've gotta play to your
strengths. I just wish he wasn't so aloof and naive at times... [Hey,
what's that supposed to mean?]

Second Day of Deception, Month of the Dragon
I'm worried about Donderston. [Does every entry have to do with worrying
about something?] I believe that for some time now there has been a presence
sympathetic to the Battleragers' cause deep within the warrior guild here.
Many in the arcane guilds here have come to the same conclusion, as there are
just too many young undersiders running off to live in their primitive huts
these days. [and talking like savage dwarves!] Don't get me wrong, I'm not
worried Donderston could be persuaded to do such a crazy thing - not at all.
I'm just concerned that if he sees or hears something, he won't be able to
keep quiet about it. I always tell him 'You've gotta pick your fights, boy,
pick your fights.' He's gotten better than I ever imagined, but he's still
got a long way to go before he can fend off those barbarians. [Pssh. I could
take 'em!]
I've been teaching him about the Veil lately. About how it affects all
magic, and how strong mages oversee its balance. [I think I met one of those
guys! It was a gnome, I think.I need to look into that.] About how
magic-haters try to thicken it to prevent magic from working as well. As
he's not really in touch with the arcane, and he's always changing the
subject to some random event that happened to him, I'm not too sure he
completely understands it. [Hey, what, of course I understand!]

Well then! Life is certainly moving fast. Where do I start...
By happenstance, I was out adventuring with a dwarf who was among the ranks
of the Keepers of Balance! Talking with him - and my good friend Aeratist -
I decided that my old dad was right, and that they could really use my skills
to bolster their ranks and help bring balance to the world! So, I pledged
myself to their cause... and not long after, those dirty Battleragers took
the Nexus' item of power. It was the least I could do to run to their
village - with my companions in tow - and take down the giant guarding the
place for a swift retrieval!
It seems that event earned myself and Aeratist some renown on the Island.
Not but days later, after another scuffle with some villagers, the Rhyme of
Resistance himself was willing to talk to us! I was excited to find out we
share the same preference in weaponry, though he finds his fists barely
suitable as a fallback (I'm sure I won't have that problem!). I presented
myself with some of the usual flair, but the Rhyme's words were wise and so I
listened intently. Before I knew it, another Nexun was giving us a tour of
the libraries on the Island. Very impressive place. Now I just need to find
myself some swords worthy of my title here!
