Description

The human before you stands somewhat shorter than the average man. Although the loose robes he wears somewhat conceal his frame, his gaunt faces suggests a wiry build. Light brown hair hangs loosely below his shoulders and partially obscures blue eyes which peer out from beneath. His robe is brownish in color and looks as if it could be older than it's wearer. Dorlanz uses a staff as he walks, although his movements suggest this is more from habit than need.

How Drolanz ended up in Sourth Darien

Dorlanz had moved four time by the time he was five, his family never seeming to establish
themselves in any once place for long.  His father was a blacksmith by trade, but never
a very good one.  He typically ended up settling for an assistant position that barely provided
enough to care for his family.  Dorlanz's father would tire of the situation, and move on
to the next town hoping to improve his lot, but just running into the same situation again.

Dorlanz did not mind the lack of materials.  They could typically eat, and that was enough
for him.  If there was no food on the table, he was also resourceful enough to typically 
come up with something for some other family members as well.  Dorlanz was also imaginative
enough, he could always find a way to keep himself amused.  He actually found that he enjoyed
the frequent moves, getting to see more and more of the realm.

As he aged, he father seemed more and more resigned to his lot in life, and moved less and less
frequently.  This did not set well with Dorlanz who had developed a sense of wanderlust.  His
family had seemed resigned to remain in Galadon.  Dorlanz heard of the Darien settlement, and
feeling he was old enough to set out on his own.  Decided to move there on his own.

Adventuring Beats Working

Dorlanz had never considered an occupation in life. Since his father had never been more than
an assistant blacksmith, Dorlanz was never taken on as anyone's apprentice. He has lived his
early life finding ways to amuse himself, or finding things needed to survive in the world.
Out on his own, he was surprised at how people regarded him as a young man, wanting him to
serve in some guard or another, or others trying to press him into labor. He was aware that
there were others who performed these tasks, but had had no desire to ever engage in them
himself.

Dorlanz had taken some interest in adventuring. He saw groups of adventurers who passed through
the towns frequently who seemed to have no care other than what place they would visit next, or
what battles they would find themselves in. He decided this was a life that suited him, and
would end the hassling questions and propositions to try to bend him to what others wanted from
him.

Dorlanz and always been intrigued by those that could change their form. He was always amazed
to see a diminutive gnome suddenly turn into a large lion or ram and slay all of those around
them. If a creature as small as a gnome could do this, Dorlanz felt he was capable as well,
and chose shapeshifting as the study which would lead him to a life of adventuring.

Much to his chagrin Dorlanz found that life as an adveturor did not free him as much as he thought.
He encountered Imperials demanding he take the bloodoath, tribunals watching his every move in town
and many others who either sought to control him, or destroy him.

As he traveled more and more, he saw the freedom he sought existed less and less in the realm.
it seemed most he encountered either sought to control all they met to increase their power
or were looking for someone to control them to increase their safety. Dorlanz found this
condition intolerable and vowed to do what he could to see it changed.
