Description

This adventurer is about six feet tall with a lithe, athletic build. His torso is lean but muscled and his arms move with the deftness of a warrior skilled in agile combat. Slightly pointed ears are evidence of elven blood. His scalp and face are freshly shaved with no sign of stubble, giving the impression that he values personal hygiene. Perhaps the most noticible facial feature are his eyes: grey, and seemingly devoid of all feeling, they examine his surroundings with idle curiosity. The nose and mouth are otherwise unremarkable. His outer clothes are of coarse brown material, loose fitting but cut to allow a wide freedom of movement. As they shift, one can see a myriad of differnet armors underneath.

Doryan has had numerous conversations with other members of the Grove,
including priests from the Imp and even the Imp himself.  He cannot
understand others' purposes within the Tree - why they act the way they do.
He's repeatedly been on the losing side of these arguments.  In the one area
where Doryan excelled in his adolescence, he now feels completely
overwhelmed.

He is resentful and hurt.  He is now withdrawn into himself.  Responses to
the inquiries of others are short and often monosyballic.  All that he has
left is the killing.  He lives for the moment and does not think to plan
ahead to what the future may hold for him.  The next day, the next battle and
even the next step is a completely clean slate.

Doryan is disgusted by his childhood.  It has left him a bitter and cynical
person.At times he will be silent and moody, but also has the ability to
express a caustic wit.  Due to his feelings of inferiority from the orphanage
days, Doryan takes a liking to high-sounding titles, especially to demean and
belittle others.

"It is what it is."  Doryan has a very fatalistic view of the world.  Showing
excessive emotion about petty accomplishments or greivances is silly.
Glorifying the hunt, drinking the blood of the fallen and all of that
nonsense is pointless distraction.  Dead is dead.  Move along.

He is well-spoken and understands complex concepts, including sociology,
rhetoric and logic.  This is a holdover from his success in the classroom.
There is a constant struggle within him between these elements of civilized
behavior and the survivalist/predator instinct from the orphanage playground
and his life in the wilderness.

Background

Doryan was born in Balator and grew up an orphan.  He lived in the orphanage
throughout his childhood.  In the predominantly human village, he was labeled
a freak.  He did not get along well with the other children.  His physical
differences were a handicap to socialization, and he was teased unmercifully.
Being smaller and thinner than many of the boys (and even some of the
girls), he was unable to stand up for himself.  His size and quickness,
however, did lend itself to certain advantages when they were looking for
him.  He had ample time to reflect on his biracial heritage with bitter
satisfaction while he hid from gangs of adventurers who would periodically
break into the orphanage.  The screams of his tormentors were like music.

Doryan grew to hate the rigid order imposed upon him by the masters and
mistresses of the orphanage.  The daily schedule became a monotonous routine.
Awaken at the same time each morning, and avoid being tripped on the way to
breakfast.  Sit alone while keeping a wary eye out for flying gruel.  To the
play yard where he would fend off or flee from countless attacks.  And so
on.One place where Doryan did find solace was in his lessons, where the
headmistress ruled with an iron fist and brooked no nonsense.  He excelled at
his studies by using a mind as deft as his feet.  In particular, he was
fascinated by books, scrolls and languages.  Doryan, though far from the most
intelligent child in Thera, far outpaced his classmates.  This did nothing to
help his social standing with either his peers or the headmistress.

While some orphans found loving families to take them in, Doryan was not so
fortunate.  He was one of the few who survived to young adulthood.  When he
able, he left.
