Description

Before you is a man standing a few inches over six feet in height. His slender frame and sullen visage lend him a sickly appearance. His face is young and handsome despite his gaunt features. His nose is long and narrow and his eyes are a fiercely intense golden brown that pulse from time to time with a flare of red. His skin is smooth and largely unblemished. It's tanned, bronze colour hints at his mixed heritage along with two ears that come a noticable point at the top. His head is shaved bald and judging by the complete lack of hair it was done recently. His emaciated body is clad in simple black robes that appear almost sacerdotal in nature. Upon the chest is a large sigil of a triangular shaped rune set in the middle of a double circle. Between the lines of the circles are nine other runes, each similar yet distinctly different.

Role

The Sands of Eternity

Added Fri Dec 2 06:12:12 2016 at level 1:
In the far reaches of Thera there exists a massive desert
known to local tribes as the Sands of Eternity. This name
was earned due to it's vast reaches, some estimate ten times
larger than the Sands of Sorrow. It was said that one would
spend an eternity roaming it's emptiness before falling dead.

On the borders of these sands there is a nomadic clan of
traders and merchants. Our saga centers around one of the
young men of this tribe known as Drahteus. Drahteus was the
product of a human female nomad and a Drow soldier who raped
her after a raid into a city spilled into the neighbouring
areas. The woman raised Drahteus, despite pleas from her family,
but she was the only one who accepted him. To the rest of her
tribe he was a stark reminder of their weakness and inability
to protect their own.

As such Drahteus was an outcast. He grew up separate from the
rest of the tribe. He had no friends. His only human contact was
his mother who filled the young boys mind with grand tales. As a
creative woman she made grandiose stories of conquest and heroes
and magical creatures. Everywhere they went she would introduce
him to new fabricated lore. It was Drahteus' first introduction
to delusion and he found he liked living in his head better than
in the real world.

Visions of the Past

Added Fri Dec 2 06:13:33 2016 at level 1:
As Drahteus grew older his mother would trade their wares for books
to continue Dratheus' education. Drahteus began to prefer books about
magic over that of history and fiction. It was around this age that
his mother and the others took notice of dark demeanor. While most
of this tribe were balanced Drahteus had obviously taken his father's
vile nature. He was cruel and even violent at times. Kids went from
teasing him to being afraid of the young halfbreed.

Around the age of 14 the boy and his mother found themselves deeper
in the sands than normal. They made camp in a small oasis where
Drahteus found an ancient onyx obelisk. His mother was confused by
the boys' fascination with the mostly buried relic. Drahteus fell
asleep next to that obelisk and had a powerful, vivid dream:

Drahteus saw the Sands of Eternity as they were Ages ago. Instead of
a reaching desert it was small sands with a vibrant jungle on both
ends. He saw the Obelisk, but instead of the six feet he was now
sleeping next to he was at the base of a forty foot tall monument.
He saw the rest of the sands, full of people and at it's center a
massive pyramid, not unlike what he'd seen in his books about the
mainlands. As his spirit was whisked away on the winds he saw more
of the people. Slavemasters selling slaves in chains. Temples in
which Priest's sacrificed bulls and rams while speaking in simple yet
foreign tongues.

Soon he found himself inside the palace at the base of the pyramid.
His incorporeal form was pulled by some unseen force through the walls
and floors. He saw many people in these halls, obvious servants and
men who walked with authority but none saw him. He as as though a ghost.

Then he found himself pulled again through the floor and into a dark
chamber. He saw a bald headed man wearing elegant cloth and with a
golden crown of a snake eating it's own tail on his head. He was seated
on a black throne and surrounded by men in black cloth who were chanting.
This regal looking man locked eyes with Drahteus' ghostly form and spoke
in the same foreing tongue, but this time Drahteus understood him clearly:
"Remember!" he shouted, leaning forward on his staff: "Remember who you are."

And with that Drahteus was awake and under the stars, breathing heavily and
confused.

More Visions

Added Fri Dec 2 06:15:40 2016 at level 1:
Drahteus was troubled by this dream. He convinced his mother to stay another
night and soon found his dreamself back at the pyramid of the lost Ages:

This time his ghostly form was pulled to the pyramid itself where he saw a
preparation chamber connected to the burial room. Upon the floor was a giant
sigil of a triangle set in the middle of a double circle which was surrounded
by nine runes he recognized as being of death, decay and ressurrection. He
again saw the King he'd seen before. Now clothed in burial shrouds. The same
men from the vision before were chanting and preparing him for something.

The King again noticed the ghostly presence with him in the room. He looked
at him and said "Watch and remember." and suddenly there was a loud crash and
yelling. The King and his men walked out of the chamber and down to the base
of the pyramid with Drahteus' form pulled along with them. Descending upon the
pyramid was countless savages from the jungle. Drahteus recognised that with
them were many of the Priests he'd seen in the Temples the day before.

As the royal guard and the King were pushed back into Pyramid the King uttered
many arcane words, raising his dead soldiers to undeath to serve him further.
Drahteus recognised this necromancy from his studies in his youth. The King
fought valiantly but in the end was driven back into the burial chamber. He
turned to Drahteus and again spoke: "We were an hour from glory. Our reign was
to be eternal." Then an arrow struck the King in the chest. Then another. Then
one more. As he slid down the altar, staining the floor with his blood many
more ran into the chamber and stabbed at him with their swords.

As Drahteus' form was pulled upward toward the sky he heard the chants: "He is
not a god! Sa-het-rhual is dead! Sa-het-rhual is dead!".

Drahteus woke to his mother shaking him as he thrashed screaming in the night.

Sa-het-rhual

Added Fri Dec 2 06:17:49 2016 at level 1:
From this dream Drahteus concluded that he was the reincarnated spirit of a
long dead magician known as Sa-het-rhual. He told his mother who assumed her
son was just playing fantasy games like they often did so she fed into his
belief by crafting a masterful story about how this King was a great ruler
and that the jungles of the region died in mourning of his betrayal by the
Priests.

Drahteus spent the next few years focusing on magical studies. Now instead of
magic missiles and transportation magic he focused on undeath. He became
consumed by claiming his destiny of undeath and becoming the Eternal King.
When his mother died due to an infection he had little need to stay within
the sands. He left in the dead of night and sold what little he and his mother
had, including his book collection, and used the funds to buy safe passage to
Seantryn Modan. It was here that he formally entered the academy as a Necromancer
and began his quest to Become Sa-het-rhual.

A few psychological features that are worthy of note:
1) Drahteus believes he is the reincarnation of Sa-het-rhual. Whether this dream
was just another in a long line of delusions fueled by a vivid imagination or
a message from Ages ago remains to be seen. What does matter is that Drahteus
believes it fully himself. He believes he was preparing for mummification and
that agents of chaos cost him his birthright: eternal dominion.

2) Drahteus worships Twist with unmatched zeal. He believes that Magic is the
backbone of personal and social development. He believes that many races were
born to serve and he'll seek to create a magical hierarchy in which the Great
Mages lead the world forward. He refers to this concept as In Umbra Magus or
"in the Shadow of the Magicians" as he believes in magic above all else.

3) This means that he is in eternal opposition with the Village of BattleRagers
and considers them to be the greatest risk to the magical arts and world. In
addition he is against the Outlanders and any chaotic beings that cannot be
brought to heel as he desires a world of rigid Order and servitude.

4) His observations on the world have led him to serve the Blood Tribunal.
While the Empire may be a more fitting choice Drahteus made note of his time
in Seantryn and how all who entered her gates obeyed the Empress. Not because
of the minotaur guards but because of the Magistrates and their army. When he
reached Hamsah he saw the same. Then when he went into lawless lands he saw
Imperial Centurions being ripped asunder by the same men who were forced into
submission in the cities. He recognised this as real power and a means to create
a safe space for the mages of Thera to sharpen their craft.

5) He is obsessed with his vision for the future and will use everything,
including the Law, to manifest the Eternal Rule of Sa-het-rhual.
