Description
You see a large, male humanoid with black skin approximately 10 feet
tall. He is very heavily build with broad muscular shoulders and
strong legs. His back is slightly bent and his shoulders somewhat
hunched. His features are harsh, the hue of his face more reddish than
black. He has a flat, broken nose. His narrow grey eyes look small
beneath his bushy black eyebrows. They have a glint of cunning to
them. His mouth is very large, his lips full and slightly irregular.
He has several wrinkles on his brow and beneath his mouth locking his
face is a perpetual frown. His hair is a faded orange with streaks of
silver at his temples. It is cropped short, only about an inch in length.
He appears to be past his prime as far as giants go. He moves in an
economic fashion, expending no more energy than necessary. Judging from
the ease with which he wears his armor and assortment of heavy weapons
in his belt and wielded in his huge hands, you deem that he is still
capable of fighting a battle or two, despite his age.
Role
More on the empire
Added Fri Mar 5 02:55:20 2004 at level 51:
After a recent venture into the imperial lands concluding with the palace
(Drokk had never been there before) the imperial priest Njaal has declared
Drokk an enemy of the Empire. Drokk fails to see the relevance of this
statement, since the imperial lackeys have always been hunting him anyway
with or without their priests. To show that he is not afraid, Drokk has made
a point out of attacking the high priest whenever he sees him. However, due
to a conversation with his chancellor, Drokk will not attack or even return
to the imperial palace itself.
On the scions and other powers.
Added Tue Feb 10 02:50:39 2004 at level 46:
Drokk does not believe that the prophecy of the Eternal Night will be
fulfilled in his lifetime. His association with the scions offers an
opportunity to be in the right place at the right time, if some of the
priests and magi get closer to actually realize the prophecy.
Furthermore he sees his position as a chance to learn about magic and
dark secrets from the most learned in the land. Of course, he had not
counted on the insults and snickering offered to him by the master
mages. For now, he endures it, actually considering some of it
merited. He is bent on learning all he can and improving as a
warrior. He knows that his presence will only be tolerated as long as
he is genuinely useful.
Being a bandit at heart he sees the imperial forces as his primary
enemies. If they succeed in bringing most of Thera under their rule,
the resulting stable society would be dreadful. So far, he has kept on
neutral terms with some of the more prominent imperials. He secretly
dreams of killing the high priest and emperor though.
He has fought many of the fortress of the light. They seem bent on
destroying him, but sometimes they return his armour after having
killed him. He does not understand this behaviour.
On being a warrior
Added Fri Mar 5 02:52:09 2004 at level 51:
Despite having reached the final rank in his guild Drokk feels he has much
to learn about being a warrior. He finds that the best way to improve his
skills is to fight his foes alone. This is not due to some misconception
about honor or some similar nonsense. He does it for two reasons: To prove his
strength to himself and to better learn how to deal with his enemies.
In general he considers his enemies to be morons and scum bags. There is one
exception to this: The duergar warrior Jinroh has impressed Drokk with his
skill in battle. Drokk considers it a major goal to defeat Jinroh on his own.
Basic personality
Added Sun Feb 8 05:25:23 2004 at level 46:
Drokk is lazy and laid back. If he could lie on a silk cushion eating
good food with some wenches within easy reach and gold a plenty in the
basement he would be perfectly content. Well, perhaps an occasional
adventure would be needed once in a while to relieve boredom.
He is very curious however. He likes to learn how things work, he is
especially intrigued by magic, but he lacks the discipline for real
studies of it. He like seeing new places as well. Both for the
potential of new loot, but also for the places themselves.
Drokk is perfectly capable of forming full sentences and using logic
to argue. However, all but the most basic social skills are beyond
him. He is only capable of using simple lies (Saying 'No'
when asked whether he attacked another in a protected area after
having done so). Using flattery or giving gifts in order to improve
relations with a potential ally is not something he would do.
He regards most other adventurers as his enemies until proven
otherwise. That does not mean he is particularly aggressive, more that
he expects the worst when dealing with others.
Drokk despises weakness. Occasionally, he will tolerate what he sees
as a weak companion in order to make himself look better by
comparison. He is somewhat cowardly. Despite the (almost) reassurance
of resurrection, he will not fight to the death, except if he believes
the consequences of running away to be even worse (say being dismissed
from the scions or earning the enmity of an immortal). He loves the
fighting itself though, and dreams of becoming a feared warrior. So
far, the prospect of achieving that goal seems elusive at best.
