Role
Visions.

Consciousness faded softly as Ecekai let himself rest. He had Oathed many
that day, on fear of their very lives, and gathered much for the coffers, to
build and expand. And so, the princes last thoughts swirled around the
proliferation of the Empire as his breathing slowed and rest found him at
last.
The cloud cover was unnaturally thick, and so close it was as if one could
reach forth and touch it. Dark they were, these strange clouds, and then
realization dawned that this was fog. Somehow twisting, shifting his visage
behind, a path of crumbling stone steps fade downward into the gloom of
swirling black fog. Nervous anticipation clutches the soul as the vision
swirls back to follow the line of crumbling steps upward into the darkness.
The stone stairs below appeared to be so very decrepid, wonderment at their
very solidity can not be held back. And as the ascending steps come into
sight they seem to widen, to almost give off a sense of stoic foundation,
something that can never be broken or swept out from underneath. Dark Fog
swirls and the centered mist above the steps begins to lighten, more steps
appear, each appearing wider then the last, each almost telling him with
words that they are superior in every way. A breeze swirls the fog so that it
rolls, sight of the ascending stone only caught by a chance break in the fog,
and with the shift of mist comes moisture... an odd warm condensation... and
then heat makes the mist dance as it parts to show the slightest glimpse of a
throne.
Startled awake by the heat of his camp fire Ecekai shifts himself further
away from the flames. He must have rolled in his sleep, the sleep which
brought such vivid dreams that are fading so quickly, such vivid dreams that
he now no longer remembers as his head sinks to rest on his pack once more.
As rest begins to come back for him, Ecekai's thoughts flutter around a line
of crumbling broken stone stairs leading down, though the significance of
such is lost in sleep.
To begin the climb.

The witch had provided Ecekai solid tasteless rations, but soon they were
nearly gone and he had to ration even his rations. The Prince took to the
menial task of theft, another small step on his climb to the top. Soon though
he realized that with his past talents and exclusive training afforded him by
his station of birth he could easily excel within the guildhall of the
warrior. And so the Prince, almost the moment he realized such, made his way
to the guildhall to challenge the Guildmaster himself, to take his station!
Ecekai could hardly breath as he struggled to roll over onto his stomach to
regain his footing. He could not believe it! The Guildmasters movements were
rugged and slow, leaning more towards pure devastation then any true beauty
of martial prowess, and yet the Prince was soundly beaten and promptly
humiliated. Wincing in blinding agony as he struggled to stand Ecekai
realized the throbbing pain from his legs and arms was not caused by a recent
blow. Realization dawned as his resolution stumbled, his wounds were far more
serious then just life threatening! Ecekai the fallen Prince of the Avian
Empire had lost everything in his tumble, even the very training he had so
excelled. Brushing off his cloths, Ecekai turned to face the Guildmaster, his
stolid determination already welling within.
And so Ecekai swallowed his pride and petitioned to train below the very
Guildmaster who had humiliated him and almost broke his last strand of will.
Just another step to climb the tower of rule and take his rightful seat above
all of Thera.
Beginnings
Added Wed Jul 29 18:53:41 2009 at level 11:
Many weeks of torturously slow recuperation near the base of the greatest
mountain range of all of Thera will haunt the Prince even into his dieing
days. To lay outside the wise woman's house, to be able to do naught but
stare at the peeks of what was once his promised empire. To be constantly
reminded every day when his eyes opened, of what was up there. Even though
Ecekai hated all that had transpired, a cord of life such as that was
difficult to simply sever without any stinging repercussions.
Finally his bones healed and strength returned, the witch woman was talented
beyond even the royal healers. The goodbyes were hardly heartfelt, she was
merely a small step now between him and his wants. And so the Prince departed
to make towards a central city of these lowland folk to begin his rise. Rough
were the hills leading out of the mountain range and he winced as he tred
onward, past foothills and valleys, through the plains were thousands of bugs
filled the air with strange noises and birds whirled overhead. Eventually the
Prince found a road, and traveled south, soft painful step after soft painful
step, until finally the towers began to come into focus in the distance.

Hunger rips him awake, and as his eyes flutter open he is nearly blind from
the white gleaming light reflected off inches of surrounding snow just
outside of his crevice. Surprise fills him at his survival, then fear for he
is far from any civilization and possible help, and finally pure and
unbridled anger. Who would dare to do this to him, the Prince of the Avian
empire! Anger strove him to stand and move, pure hatred put one foot in front
of the other. The princes thoughts spiraled and raced, ever moving with
intense deliberation. Realization dawned as the sun grew brighter, his father
must have done this, had done this, his father was scared of the power his
empire must have!
Hatred drove him on, his continued footsteps and the distance traveled lost
to him as he struggled to keep control. All he had wanted was to expand the
rule, to push forth the greatness of the avian empire, the crown of Thera.
They, the Arials, were the greatest of the races, why would they not act as
such and take the lowly races under their wings to do as they wished! Fear
had done this to him, but not his own fear. Fear of the great Emperor
himself, fear of moving forth, of taking more, of even leaving the palace.
His father had lived in fear of all those lowland men, men he must have
thought were greater then him. Fear of a greater man then himself, for the
Emperor feared his son, who only wanted more for the people then the Emperor
could ever bring himself to give.
And suddenly rising smoke was on the horizon, not terribly far away. His
staggering journey continued, pushing himself, he would do that which he
must, he would rule the greatest and the lowly. Prince Ecekai decided that
very moment, that if the Avian Empire would not be his, he would find another
civilization and make it a true Empire of men.
The pain of survival.

All Ecekai could do was try to make his body flat so it would catch as much
wind as possible, his soft head feathers dancing wildly as he rushed downward
to towards certain demise! At the last possible moment, snow peeks jutting
upwards faster and faster, Ecekai rolled himself into the tightest ball he
could. The sudden impact almost seemed to jolt his very soul free from his
body, and the following haphazard tumble of crashing rocks and broken bones
left him reeling in a dance of agony and fear. His decent continued, stars
danced before him even as his eyes closed, then suddenly his rolling turned
to a slide and slowed to a painful stop.
Somehow the prince drags himself to his knee's, broken bones and wings
screaming in vicious pain, and then to his feet. He stumbles and staggers on,
the snow blinding and frigid, somehow pushing himself through the force of
his impetuous will.. alone. Breaking free of the mountain blizzard, the
prince finds shelter within a small nook of a cave. As he lays there, trying
to keep his mind moving and his body awake, he can not help but realize that
his life will quickly come to an end here. Knowing he will die from his
broken wounds and probable internal bleeding the prince stays awake as long
as he can, but alas, sleep comes to grasp him in its terribly cold grip.
A move for power.

Hresiste and Yhlrile acted quickly to solidify their place as the decision
makers for the night council, as they had taken to calling themselves. Great
risks loomed over every meeting, but the greater rewards overshadowed even
the threat of death, for only a council member could be risen to the seat of
Emperor, and only when the Emperor had passed and no living heirs could step
forward. Hresiste had chosen the time and place, as well as vehemently
abstaining from wishing to draw blood, for one can not draw the blood of the
royal family lest his blood be spilled as well. Yhlrile did nothing so much
as confirm and back Hresiste, for Yhlrile had always been considered sound in
judgement.
A few silver easily purchases the tongue of a servant, and the council had
much and many more then a few silver between them to silence the army of
servants. No trilling of warning sounded, no fluttering of feathers in
escape, only Ecekai silently brooding over the endless stack of tomes. The
coup transpired flawlessly, wings bound the prince was ushered forth in the
deepest darkest hours before dawn, for only then can the most malicious of
acts be performed. Gusts of wind ripped at the cliff side as the young prince
was prodded closer and closer to the ledge. No blood was to be drawn, it was
true, but one could not be blamed for a soul the mountain had taken, after
all such was the way of life for the Avian. And so, a last prod and Ecekai
was brushed from the mountain to meet whatever fate the winds may have for
him, be it life.. or most likely a quick and untimely death.

The Emperor realized by the second day that his son had ignored the finality
of his command, and realized what must be done. Unfortunately he also
realized that weakness might truly haunt his every decision as his son
apparently had let on in his musing when the servants were close enough to
hear. Council meetings were called and held, days passed and those close to
the royal family wondered what would transpire. After a few of the more
interesting council meetings his closest confidants realized what must have
happened and what must be done, the few shadowed gatherings were held quickly
and the dark plot laid out enough times to make every member realize their
place and the price for ultimate failure.
Realization.
Added Mon Jul 27 23:19:29 2009 at level 1:
The gleam first came during these long long nights. Ecekai would find a depth
of concentration within the varied intricacies and technicalities of control
and law that his gaze would delve so deeply into the words, a dance of light
and the future was seen by his servants. Soft whispers began to spread of the
almost uncertain insanity of the young prince, whispers with some solidity to
their tales. It was a year, full of sleepless nights and exhausting days, a
full year where he began to melt away. His muscles grew even more lean, like
a starved Arial, to the point of vividly displaying the small bones where his
joints meet. His feathers began to stay dirty almost all the time, bathing
was not something he was interested in nor did he have time between the
control of law and the dance of death. Fetid breath was noticed by those
close enough to the prince when he spoke, and his stench only grew worse as
he fell deeper into his addiction.
Attempting to reason, failed, to convince, failed, and finally to command,
and that as well failed. Finding himself with such an unbelievably difficult
decision, the Emperor found himself hesitating with whatever decision might
dictate his only son's future. Before long he realized with soul deep agony
that he must order his son to desist one final time least he be banished
forever more.
Long after the sun has made its decent and the night has deepened fully, the
candles flicker lower and weaker compelling the deepest of shadows to stretch
and take on a life of their own. This is the time when Ecekai has always
found the most perfect realizations in his most sacred tomes, this is also
the time when the message is delivered. Why his father thought to wait till
this late in the night, perhaps to convince the prince that he indeed
understood his needs, one will never know. Ecekai almost trembled with
stoically controlled rage until he slowly and surely placed the parchment
above the flames, an almost unforgivable transgression in his own eyes, until
they caught fully and were quickly no more. So his father, the most hesitant
and complacent of so called Emperors, had made his decision, so be it, for he
could do nothing to his only son, the prince, who would inherit all of the
avian empire! Finally one would rule that might push forth their rightful
position upon the rest of lowly Thera.
Adolescence.
Added Mon Jul 27 23:17:10 2009 at level 1:
By the age of ten, young Ecekai learned the dance of weapons from the most
prestigious combatants from the four corners of the realm. Natural talent
beyond anything these teachers had seen before exuded itself in his every
movement, and soon the trainers were speaking genuinely of his
accomplishments instead of to garner more gold from the Avian Emperor.
By the age of fifteen Ecekai had enough prowess to stand toe to toe with
three members of the warriors guild that were seven years his senior and best
them together. His studies leaped forward beyond anything anyone could have
hoped for, but he took a definitive interest in political rule and the laws
used by the powerful to control the populous. Many long nights Ecekai would
poor stolidly through texts of the law, the candles burning lower and lower
until early in the mornings his person squadron of servants would softly move
about to replace them.
Birth
Added Mon Jul 27 23:15:12 2009 at level 1:
There are those in this existence that come into life screaming and naked,
and that is how they continue until they perish the same way, screaming and
naked. There are those that dis-guard such poverty and grasp everything they
desire in their talons. There are those who do not need to grasp anything,
for they are bestowed all entitlements upon birth and such they squander.
There are those rare souls though, so scarce and infrequent, who are gifted
with exceptional excessive pedigree and fame that any other soul would label
them entirely preposterous for their frenetic want for more.
This very soul came screaming uncontrollably into birth in the highest
reaches of Thera to the Emperor and Empress of the avian race. To call the
young avian child Gifted is a horrible understatement and a waste of a
compliment so deserving to so many, and yet this young man left "Gifted"
behind by the time he was five. Bombarded with every luxury, utterly talented
at his exuberant play, promised every right, rule, law, and crown of the
avian empire.
