Description

A slender male figure is here before you, he is not tall, only about five and a half feet tall. He appears fragile and unhealthy, even in the best of lights, his feature are gaunt and frail, his skin is an off-putting chalky color, and deep blue bags are very visible under his eyes. His head is covered in oily black hair, it is largely unkept otherwise. His face is almond-shaped, with a sharp chin that complements his gaunt jaw and facial bones well. His nose plain, but widens at the bridge of his dull blue eyes. His mouth is an ever-lasting frown, conveying little but sadness. His garb is light and he carries a vast array of trinkets and vials of various colored goo like substance. A strange smell of death, oil, and lavender permeates from him constantly. A closer look tells you that...

Role

The Void of my Dreams

Added Mon Dec 14 11:54:41 2020 at level 12:
No more dreams, now that Ansellus is dead. It feels like it has been forever.

Yet here I am, drawing the only memory I have of him over and over in my
sketchbook. Every time it is less than perfect and everytime I must destroy
it. What luck I have to be suffering from such amnesia that only the briefest
of my memories of him remain. Of course it is no less than I deserve.

Maybe this is some kind of divine punishment for what I've done, destroying
something so beautiful in my own hubris...

I do what I can at least to preserve what I have, I am making notes of what
memories remain from that place, even those without him... perhaps if I read
them enough some will return about my beloved.

There must be a way.

Memories that Remain

Added Mon Dec 14 11:55:21 2020 at level 12:
Gheiste
The little sniveling baby sobbed for hours just because i tricked
him into drinking mud water telling him it was sweet juice. The headmaster
always favored him, I was punished harshly for it. I've never been able to
tolerate someone like him since.

Moorlebund
She was spying on me and Ansellus one night when we snuck out. Had
it not been for the full moon I wouldn't known it was her, she couldn't say
anything though because she was out too. Never trusted her or most woodland
people since.

Aumundre
This one reminded me much of Gheiste, just a whiner. They had no
strength at all. One time he tried to lure Ansellus away from me, i uttered a
simple curse i read in a book that made a pimple on his face explode. He
cried for days.

Orghel
Orghel had style. He was very honest, my best memory of him was
confronting Moorlebund and telling her how it was. I joined in in the jives
now and then, but more often then not I only caught the end of it being out role + with Ansellus.

Umbergin
I remember once while I was out with Ansellus, we saw him just
walking alone... talking to himself. When we called out to him he just rolled
his eyes at us and wandered off. He never said much, I never liked him.

Altrice
Ugh, this girl was just annoying. She always brought in all these
dirty flowers and littered them all over. We found out she was scared of
animals, so one time after she got dirt on my things I snuck outside and
howled in the bushes, she cried all night.

Ombrescura
I remember once seeing Ombrescura under his bed, messing around...
I snuck over once to peek... It wasn't what I hoped, he was just scratching
at the floor with some a dirk of some kind.

Ginderwohl
Ginderwohl once was talking in his bed for hours, I thought he
might have been sneaking someone in there, but I went in and pinched his foot
and he jumped out of bed and nobody else was there. He was odd.

Gods, Engershim was disgusting. Once I saw him getting scrubbed by
that know-it-all Aeldanis like some kind of stupid dog.

Aeldanis
This know-it-all do-gooder always was posturing for the headmaster
and trying to act like he was better than all of us. He once stopped me from
sneaking out with Ansellus, I'll never forget that and if I ever find his
corpse he'll pay for it.

The black arts are all I have now, for a creature such as me they fit
perfectly. It truly is the only way I can keep my mind at all now... Such
anger and hatred I have, should I not release it I'll truly lose what little
I have left... but perhaps I should, perhaps I should just let the maran
butcher me. But I am too much of a coward. Alas...

Happenings

Added Wed Dec 23 09:27:01 2020 at level 28:
Much has passed of late, it seems many of my 'siblings' from Ardenwood
survived. Including my beloved Ansellus... Though what has become of him is
foreign and disturbing now, I long for a way to show him the truth and
restore what he once was.

It seems he wasn't dead, after the accident... and instead the fire left him
maimed and ruined. He blames 'dark magic' now, likely under the tutelage of
that old fool Ardenwood.

The paladin did nothing but save his prized peach the candy boy, we know that
now. He left Ansellus to burn and he must be held accountable.

I was just a child, how could I know this could happen... It was an accident,
where was the guidance of our guardian? I shouldn't feel like this should I?

The others are equally broken, some have some understanding but all seem
misled. I cannot reveal that I started that fire, if Ansellus found out...
there would be no hope.

Just the same, the foolishness of Ardenwood proclaiming dark magic at work
when *I* started a simple fire... he knows something.

He also spoke of someone 'leading us' away that night, more nonsense I think.
All that consumes me now is finding a way to restore Ansellus and bring death
upon our dear guardian.

I feel empty without my work anymore, I want to dream again... I want
to paint again... Ansellus must be restored.

The truth grows more complex

Added Fri Dec 25 12:46:08 2020 at level 35:
Much has been learned about the past, how much of it is true I don't know.
I've met a good many more of my 'siblings' and most are as damaged as I.
Vrimold, an imperial now seems content to fight and forget his problems,
while Veldren a battlerager is a drunken coward. Ahloire is as much a fool as
Umbrand and his fat son Dollerveim.

Vizgrathol is reclusive and intelligent as I would have expected, our
conversations ceased when i mentioned his brother.

Among them all a few have stood out and made me realize how much danger
Ansellus perhaps is in...

Erithan, the would-be maran is the first. One who fears fire. They do not
understand much but they've revealed to me a great deal about
Grombie...Grombie I was sure was not real. I remember Feldscren speaking of
this creature, but it was just child's play...wasn't it?

I've spoken to the cow himself and he is as simple and dimwitted as a childs
friend would be. He thinks only of Feldscren and concerns himself with
nothing else. Still, his revelations about waking up naked outside of the
orphanage were interesting.

Haelior, another interesting creature... a necromancer of my guild, convinced
he is a hero in some grand tale. He knows a great deal just the same about
the past, how much of it he revealed to me as true is another thing to
consider, he seems to be playing a role beyond my understanding. I've learned
between he and another that something may have happened beyond the fire...
Something involving the god of loss and the sunwarden. Within the dream.

I will need to investigate.

Lastly I've spoken to Zorellaia... I'd learned prior that this creature hunts
all of us orphans, for reasons I've yet to entirely reveal. I revealed myself
as a fellow hunter of the orphans, which the gullible dark-elf believed.

It was less than helpful, being I am a necromancer but it revealed a tale of
great doom if they did not disperse of all the orphans. It was particularly
afraid of us breeding of all things.

The fool doesn't know of my past, and I revealed Ansellus to be hunting
orphans as well, to protect him from the dark-elf. It believed me.

I've made sure everyone knows that Nastrella started that fire, I couldn't
bare the idea of Ansellus learning it was me... he would never forgive me. I
cannot face this guilt much longer, I need to find a way to fix Ansellus and
protect him... Some magic at play... he is in danger I know it.

I've learned Ardenwood Manor was picked at by construction crews in Seantryn
Modan. I will investigate the ruins as well, perhaps I will learn more. I
need more power for this, there is so much more at play than I thought. I
cannot restore and protect beautiful Ansellus without it. Oh gods why can't I
dream of him once more... I long to show him a perfect painting, even a
sculpture... I am sure then he would understand my love and remember...

Dreary Times

Added Sat Jan 9 10:26:50 2021 at level 40:
After understanding the degree of what needed to be done, I've had to join
the empire. The rigors of such a life are numbing the loneliness I experience
now regularly. I find myself taking risks and being reckless with my own
life, perhaps hoping death will free my from this suffering without Ansellus.

I feel like any hope I had to reunite us is failed. He wants my head as a
decoration to his hut, who he was is gone now, what is left is but a broken
husk.

Still, i will do what I can...

Tristhana and I have become unlikely allies in solving the mystery of what
has happened and how we eliminate the perceived threat. Although I've
manipulated her to a degree, she is competent... I have a sneaking suspicion
her own insecurities could be dangerous however.

At this point i find myself dreary and unable to contribute the same as when
I had hope for Ansellus. Perhaps I will turn to my art as Lord Gaspare
wished. I've been unable to face the idea of creating something to represent
who he was, knowing what he is now.

Is he just a dream too? Is he going to fade? Maybe I can get the old Ansellus
back?

I don't know anymore. I am oathed to the empire and where I once sought their
power to save him, i find it all without meaning now.

Perhaps I can find inspiration. Perhaps not. It seems unlikely.
