Description
This Elven man is enveloped by mysterious, ethereal quality. He is fair of
skin, even for his kind. His placid face is devoid of any pink or brown hue
and his hair is a shining platinum white-blonde. The hair is pulled away from
his face giving a clear view of his features. A flawlessly straight nose,
perfect in proportions. Two evenly set eyes of a blue so pale it's nearly
white. High cheek bones. Slender, firm jaw. The delicately pointed ears of an
Elf. He has what might be described as a dancer's body. Not powerful, but not
weak and full of grace and agility. These soft, pale features define his
look. One might guess him a ghost if his vaporous quality was not equally
matched by presence. Despite his nearly insubstantial appearance that
presence is like an anchor of mortality.

Chapter I
"The road you wish to take is traveled only by the lonely and the forsaken.
Elenellius, I urge you to take another - any other, really. For once you
begin down this path there will be no turning back," Jaelnaw had told him.
Elenellius studies the floor as if it might reveal some truth. It does not.
Jaelnaw, spoke of being alone and yet Elenellius cannot imagine feeling
moreso now. There is no council to seek from Darsylonian elders here on the
docks of Hamsah Mu'tazz. There are only his thoughts and the low level of
adrenaline that has relentlessly belabored his heart since the attack.
He had set out from Darsylon two weeks before. It was to be a routine voyage,
one not even worth a proper contingent of guards. Travel to the docks, pick
up the cargo, return home to the lands of his father, Lord Dallian Ar'dan
Valmasscion. Major roads and cities between origin and destination leaves
little cause for concern. Old Jaelnaw, a "retired" paladin of Stormish
decent, was his escort and bodyguard.
The trouble began in Galadon. The two had stopped for the night to avoid
traveling in the dark and for a decent supper of stew and bread. Jaelnaw
wished to stay up late to sample some of the inn's brew, and though
Elenellius did not partake he chose to keep the old giant company.
There in the common room they heard the murmuring of two Elves from a house
Elenellius did not recognize. Their words were hushed and hurried, their eyes
wary. Noticing Jaelnaw and Elenellius they approached, spoke of a thwarted
attempt to rob them of their coins and clothes, and beseeched Elenellius and
Jaelnaw to travel with them for safety in numbers.
They woke at dawn and traveled the Eastern Road in the morning arriving in
Hamsah Mu'tazz around the midday meal. After a quick lunch of heavily spiced
meat and flat, boring bread they made their way to the docks.
It was there under the high noon sun the trap was sprung.
Suddenly a sickening, dull THWACK was in the air. Not an alarming sound on
it's own, really, but under the circumstances the sound of it turned
Elenellius' stomach. He spun on the balls of his feet assuming a ready stance
born more of fear than combat training. Jaelnaw lay slumped on the ground, a
magically enlarged man behind him holding a heavy sack.
The three young, noble Elves stood silent, faces impassive in the Elven style
despite the fear that gripped them. All around them cutpurses of mixed decent
emerged from the shadows of nearby buildings. Elenellius hadn't even noticed
there were shadows in the bright of day - never mind looked for men in them!
One of the marauding band, a duergar, stepped forward. His sunken, beady eyes
were full of menace. Those malevolent eyes gripped Elenellius and sent a
shiver up his spine. It was they that froze him, not the rapier leveled at
his throat.
"Move an' yer dead, Valmasscion." He had hissed.

The other members of the band descended upon his newfound traveling partners.
They drug them to the planks of the docks tearing their clothing. One started
to squeal for help but a punch to the throat ended the cry. Then it began -
punches, kicks and clubs rained down on the two elves until they lay in two
motionless, crimson piles. This was no robbery, it was an assassination.
Through the fear Elenellius felt the unmistakeable bite of rage. The
injustice of it consumed him, made his palms sweat and his body warm with
ire.
"Wanna be next?" the duergar said, needling the point of his rapier into
Elenellius' throat.
The band of thieves began to slink back into the shadows. They were quick to
leave the bodies before the guards made their rounds. They duergar took an
extra moment to threaten Elenellius.
It was all the time Jaelnaw needed. As the duergar's cohorts retreated
Jaelnaw, still on his back, hooked the heal of the duergar and sent him ass
over helmet to the ground.
"Long since I have prayed the prayer of Wrath, filth, but I remember it well.
Would you like to hear?!" He boomed.
"Murderer."

Chapter II
So Elenellius came to be here in a little shack on the docks of Hamsah
Mu'tazz staring down a duergar prisoner. He resisted the temptation to rub
his temples. Jaelnaw's words echoed in his head as his emotionless face hides
the torment in his mind.
"The road you wish to take is traveled only by the lonely and the forsaken.
Elenellius, I urge you to take another - any other, really. For once you
begin down this path there will be no turning back."
The two had discussed at some length the fate of their prisoner. Elenellius
had struggled to find words to express his feelings that the simple, though
immensely respected, giant could understand.
For a reason he cannot discern Elenellius cannot abide the duergar to pass
without Judgment. What's more he cannot shake the feeling he should be it's
bearer. Jaelnaw urged him not to take matters into his own hands, thus his
spoken warning.
Indeed, he found himself battling his own conscience as he stood before the
bound prisoner. To take a life is no small matter, even an evil life. He
doubted that if he carried out the Judgment and committed the murder he would
ever be the same.
He was no one special. Just another young, Elven lord from Darsylon. Under
any other circumstance he would not have paid the duergar much mind.
Certainly he held him in revulsion but he would never have thought to kill
him. Not until he committed the crime. It was as though Elenellius' eyes were
open for the first time.
There in the still air of room he could feel his friends and family
distancing themselves. He imagined their shock on learning of the execution
he was about carry out. He could almost see the disquieted faces, almost hear
the murmurs and whispers behind his back. "Murderer."
A lonely road indeed. Still, one he must walk. There was no denying the call
in his Spirit. He closed his eyes, uttering the only magical words he knew.
His fingernails lengthened and hardened as they shapeshifted into claws. The
magic was weak and the claws not strong - but it would be enough.
"It is time. Your Judgment has come, criminal."
The duergar screamed as his final moments came and passed. Those screams,
both the outward ones of the duergar and the inward ones of Elenellius will
echo for all his days. They will haunt Elenellius like a ghost.
Elenellius White, a New Name for a New Path
Added Tue May 8 07:16:23 2012 at level 39:
Elenellius pens a letter beginning with the words, "My Dearest Father" and
concluding with the words, "My deepest regrets". It is a farewell - full of
remorse but resolute. He can no longer fulfill his duties as a young lord of
the House Ar'dan Valmasscion. So clarion is the call of Judgment, and with it
his allegiance to Lord Marcatis and the Spire, he can hear no other.
Having left his House to never return he can no longer bear it's name. With
that name come privileges and responsibilities, none of which are his any
longer. Instead he has taken the name, "White."
Elenellius White.
White for his goal of the Spirit's perfection on the Day.
White for the color of his skin and hair.
White for the blank slate upon which he now writes the tale of his life.
