Description
Nose slightly upturned, this tall and wiry High-Elf emanates a presence
of nobility and authority. His features are sharp and angular, with a
long thin nose and high cheekbones that seem at first too delicate.
Compounding the fraill appearance is his hair. Blonde, though with ashy
gray spreading from his temples, it is fashioned in a series carefully
tied braids which seem far more at home in a palace than on most
battlefields. Immediately, though, that illusion of fragility is erased
by the intensity seen within this Elf's eyes. Deep blue, showing the
creases of age and experience at their cornesr, they seem to absorb his
surroundings aggressively, while mirroring the depth and turbelence of
the Aryth Ocean.
As your eyes wander, subtle clues suggest a long history of violence in
this Elf's long life. A pale scar, faded by time is nearly obscured by
the strategic placement of his braids. His hands, never far from the
Halberd which he seems to hold in deep regard, show both fresh and
ancient scars and thick callouses which would never be found marring a
true noble's skin. Capping this strangely contradictory appearance is the
smile permanently fixed upon his lips, conveying a sense of pride but
also dismay at his surroundings, much like a father looking over a
rambunctious young child.
Role
Ambition Unchecked

Every corner of Thera knows of the Kingdom of Darsylon and is thereby
quite familiar with the noble house from which the city gets it's name.
Many of the lower races might think that Darsylonathas is the only royal
Elven lineage, or at least the only one which demands respect. And as is
usually the case, these lower races are quite wrong.
Every Elven city has a ruling house, of course. Darsylon is merely the
only one who's rulers were as forward-thinking (or foolish, depending
upon who you ask) to open their city to visitors across Thera. And within
and around each of these cities, there are minor nobles doing what nobles
tend to do - primarily concerning themselves with appearances and implied
respect and favoritism of the ruling House.
Elithranduil is from one such noble house. Though as the youngest of five
brothers, very little was expected of young Elithranduil in regards to
protecting and advancing his family in the social graces of the Highborn.
He was, while not an outcast, certainly unimportant and therefore
overlooked by most Elves who know their way around the Palace.
Despite, or perhaps because of, his place in his family and in the city,
Elithranduil was a very head-strong and eager young Elf. He knew what he
wanted, and there was not a thing or Elf that could stand in his way. And
what he wanted more than anything else was to do something worthwhile.
What is an Elf to do who has no true role? Elithranduil answered that
question in the only way he knew how - by making up the answer himself.
He created a role for himself and declared himself the first Elven envoy
to the wicked city of Udgaard. While wise Elves would say such an envoy
was unnecessary in the best of times, and gravely foolish in the worst,
Elithranduil would not be dissuaded. He would bring to that vile place an
understanding of goodness and the Light, or at least bring back an
understanding of what they were truly capable of. In his mind, those were
the only two outcomes and either would be a victory.
Elithranduil was, after all, a sheltered young Elf and did not yet
understand the concept of Evil men, and what they were capable of. He
would soon learn.
Lesson Learned
Added Sun Sep 16 00:58:30 2018 at level 1:
The young Elithranduil enlisted two guards to accompany him on the trek.
Wise men told him he would need more, but Elithranduil would not show
fear to these lesser men, nor would he provoke war by bringing a small
army to Udgaard's gates.
A wise thought, but unnecessary. Elithranduil's party never made it to
the gates of Udgaard. Passing through the Calandaryl mountains and
avoiding dangerous men on the West Loke Road, Elithranduil found himself
face to face with the corpse of a Paladin, gruesomely displayed in some
sort of warning to other travelers.
It was a disgusting sight, but Elithranduil and his men did not have time
to be disgusted. They were set upon by vicious men in black.
The battle was short and brutal. Elithranduil had chosen his guards well.
They were good Elves, and skilled warriors. They fought as honorably as
an Elf has ever fought. But they died just the same. The wicked men were
too many, and they were rushing out of the city like a flood.
Elithranduil, armed with only a walking stick, was all that was left.
Surrounded and without the skill to fight, they toyed with him. Slashing
and prodding with their weapons, they never dealt a killing blow. Between
their sneering and maniacal laughter, they joked about finding a pike to
put him on next to the long-dead paladin.
Enraged, Elithranduil stood, steadied himself with his staff, and
prepared to fight to his last breath. Perhaps it was an inspiring sight,
while it lasted. But it did not last long, as Elithranduil succumbed to
the bloodloss and fell unconscious as the evil laughs echoed around him.
Taking Action
Added Sun Sep 16 01:02:18 2018 at level 1:
Awakening in Darsylon, Elithranduil was overcome with grief. His family,
happy only that he was alive, seemed to dismiss the entire story as a
lesson learned at a cost forgotten. But Elithranduil could not forget the
cost of his foolishness. Those men died protecting him. They died for a
mission he envisioned. They died for him, with nothing gained.
In the days that followed, Elithranduil truly tried to rejoin his old
life. But the silver cutlery, gourmet food and fine wine that most men
might dream of held no more appeal to young Elithranduil. In those short
days, Elithranduil grew from a naive boy to a mature Elf that had seen
more of the world than most. He did not yet know what his path was, but
this revelry and well-practiced nescience could not be his life any
longer.
Grabbing the same walking staff that he'd carried to Udgaard's gates and
the simple leather clothing of a commoner, Elithranduil turned his back
to his family and set out to find a new life for himself. One where he
might put to use the lesson's learned on that fateful day, and ensure
that the sacrifices he'd seen did not go in vain.
Elithranduil travelled south and visited villages and cities great and
small. Halflings, svirfneblin, singers and farmers. Elithranduil saw the
world with new eyes - eyes that were not shielded by wealth and power. He
witnessed bar fights over handfulls of copper, and beggars punished for
stealing a single loaf of bread. He saw the world for what it really was,
not just for what other men wanted him to see.
He wandered for many years, sad at the state of the world but unsure what
he could do for it.
That changed one day, as he passed through Voralian City. A man, a simple
commoner who'd likely done no harm to another soul in his life was being
tormented. Brigands, bandits or merely wicked men looking for
entertainment, it made no difference. They attacked him with murderous
intent. Elithranduil had seen evil men before, but he could look no more.
His feet and his hands moved before his mind had settled on a course of
action. He swung his staff with all the strength he could muster. It was
awkward, but forceful, and a crack followed by a sickening thud proved
his aim was true.
Thera would have one fewer evil man to worry about. But Elithranduil
still had two to be concerned of. And he no longer had the advantage of
surprise.
For the second time in his life, Elithranduil was left bloody and
unconscious in the street, his last memory the maniacal laughter of evil
men.
A New Home
Added Sun Sep 16 01:06:22 2018 at level 1:
His eyes opened slowly, throbbing and painful, but slowly coming into
focus. He could see tasteful decorations in ivory and gold. It was
something he'd seen before. The standards of the Voralian Order. Slowly,
his senses came back and he pieced together where he was. It was the Hall
of Voralian Templars - colloquially known as the Paladin's guild, of
Voralian City. But why was he here?
As he began to sit up, a gentle but firm hand grasped his shoulder. "Rest
now. We'll talk soon." Obediently, Elithranduil succumbed to the pain
passed out once again.
Awakening many hours later, Elithranduil found himself in dicussion with
several Paladins, including the lady-knight Nicolette. They were curious
of the scars they'd seen on his body and where he'd come from. As it
happens, a good many of them had similar stories of the wicked city of
Udgaard. It was a city full of men well-known to strike out at the most
righteous of souls (Elves included), without hesitation. A lesson many,
Elithranduil included, had learned firsthand.
The paladins asked Elithranduil why he'd chosen such an unwise fight.
Three against one is no small disadvantage, after all. When Elithranduil
explained that he could not stand by as a witness when so many evil men
roamed freely, they nodded in understanding. And while some disapproved
of his choice to battle on the streets, they all admired the courage.
Just as he was growing curious at the interest these holy men were
showing in him, Nicolette stood and spoke firmly. "Well, you have heart
and you've shown courage to do what needs to be done. But right now,
you're more dangerous to yourself than anyone else. What do you say we
teach you how to use that?" As the lady-knight nodded curtly at his
staff, Elithranduil stood dazed and confused. Perhaps his head wasn't as
healed as he'd thought. Did she really just suggest that he begin
training as a Paladin?
Renewed Purpose
Added Thu Nov 15 13:55:41 2018 at level 40:
Elithranduil dedicated himself to his training as a Paladin. He was a
star pupil in many ways, and extremely dedicated to the Code, to his
purpose and to his faith. He was courageous in battle and turned the tide
of many skirmishes as a newly appointed Squire to the Holy Brigade of the
Phoenix. He was strong of faith, empowered by the Lord of Pathfinders
himself.
He was, in so many words, a Paladin. And there is pride to be felt in
that simple fact.
Until the day when those illusions were destroyed. Elithranduil, the
Paladin, the Squire to the Holy Brigade and the priest of Lord Korsgaard,
killed a Good man.
Many would say that Elithranduil held no fault in the events of that day,
but those opinions do not matter. Finding righteous blood on his hands,
Elithranduil was again that lost young Elf, striving to live a life of
righteous purpose while the men around him were killed.
A shell of his former self, Elithranduil found himself going through the
motions of what a Paladin might be expected to do. His rest from the war
became lengthier, to the point that many within the Fortress did not
recognize him.
Stern words from the newly named Captain Aehwic Thundersnow were spread
to every member of the Fortress, though Elithranduil felt they were
written for him and him alone. Guilt was deserved, but it solved nothing.
It is not pity that makes a man righteous, but righteous deeds.
Renewed and reawoken, Elithranduil found himself with new vigor and
purpose. More dedicated than ever to becom more than that failed leader,
sending his own men to their untimely deaths.
Elithranduil is a paladin, a Squire to the Holy Brigade, and a priest of
Lord Korsgaard. It is time that he earned those titles.

A life spent at war does not often leave time for reflection, though
perhaps that is when it is most often needed.
So many years ago Elithranduil was a foolhardy and headstrong boy,
leading good Elven men into battle for the first time. He led them not
because he had earned privilege to do so, but because of the family to
which he was born granted him the right to do as he saw fit.
As a wiser man may have predicted, the mission was a complete failure
with no one left alive to blame but Elithranduil. His men dead due to his
decisions, Elithranduil admitted to himself at that young age that he
could be no great leader of men.
At the time, that was likely true. But Elithranduil is not the same Elf
as that naive and ambitious child. Long having sworn of his noble house
and the luxurious lifestyle of his birth, he transformed into just
another Elf, with no history and no birthright. A new Elf, in many ways,
leaving the foolishness of his youth behind him.
And now he finds himself again, positioned as the leader of great men.
Elithranduil is the Marshall of the Fortress of Light.
With reflection comes a great many questions. Can a failed leader redeem
himself? Can an Elf who has proven that he can not be trusted with good
men's lives, now prove that he can be? Much lies upon Elithranduil's
shoulders as he helps lead the Fortress of Light thhrough this dark, yet
so vital war. Has he changed enough, learned enough, not to fail the
people that rely upon him yet again?
