Lament to the Past

Born under a full moon, Ellania took her first breath as a child of a wilder
tribe that made their home near Evermoon Hollow. Ellania lived the vast
majority of her life loved and cared for. Her tribe raised her, as one. She
knew who her mother and father were, but it did not matter. The tribe was her
family.
She has always been free spirited and charismatic. Often singing her peers a
lullaby at night, or making friends laugh with wild antics. She was sought
after by many males of the tribe, but Ellania was wild and free with her love.
She did not wish to be tied down to anyone. She lived her life there, free and
happy... Until three weeks ago.
She began having visions and nightmares. She saw a life, lived in another
reality. Her life. In it, she was in love with a male. The love was powerful.
Overwhelming...
The night before they were to be wed, she drowned. She can remember the drowning
Vividly...
Ellania has felt pain unlike anything she has felt before, and she has left
her home to find answers, as best she can. She knows she cannot stay hidden
to the world and deal with this pain on her own. Ellania seeks some level of
closure or relief from this pain, as it threatens to consume her.
She does not seek death, but she also does not fear it. Her heart feels 'locked'
as she would say.
Ellania suspects her romantic rival was behind the drowning. But the mystery
is still unsolved, as her memories are sparse. She moves through the world
motivated by feelings of a broken heart and a fascination, still, with the
world around her. She is still a High-Elf, after all.
Heirloom

As Ellania trains diligently, she constantly touches the emerald band in her
hair. It is the only thing her village, or family, ever gave to her. The only
possession that is. The band is said to contain good luck, and has been in
the village for generations. It was very strange, indeed, for such a thing to
be gifted, yet it was. And Ellania wears it, proudly, to this very day.
It reminds her of her chaotic roots. Roots which Ellania embraces. She is not
wild or reckless, but Ellania chooses to embrace chaos rather than run from it.
Perhaps this may manifest by her being a bit gung-ho or by using clever word-
play to mislead. Ellania already has a healthy distrust for the Law thanks to
what she sees as a failure by the Provincial Lich Tamazin to warrant a bard
who struck Ellania in Voralian.
Still, Ellania remains a good soul. Her band reminds her of her people's
relentless courage to remain neutral and hidden all these years. Ellania
hopes to continue a path of righteousness in the Light. Learning from the
Acolytes that she can. She hopes to, ultimately, bring joy to those around her.
She tries to practice piety by panhandling as often as she can. She feels she
is "of the people".
Ellania trains so hard because she has chosen to join the Fortress of Light.
She has chosen the Fortress because she has traveled the lands and seen what
foul evil is spreading. She hopes to use her voice and talent to bring light
to darker corners of the world. She seeks to become a Maran. The band in her
hair reminds Ellania of where she's been, while the Mantle of Light guides her
forward.
Heirloom pt. 2

Ellania knows her band is the link to her village, but as she explores, she
has become more curious of High Elven culture. The world outside her small
village has opened her eyes to things such as expensive wine. Her favorite,
for now, is Alennarian wine from Darsylon. Ellania seeks to continue exploring
Elven culture in as many forms as she can.
Ellania can be very dangerous to other adventurers. She seeks to hone her
skill at fighting all manner of wicked creature. She does this to become a
better Maran and fighter. Through her band, her family fights with Ellania.
It's their spirit. That's what Ellania believes. Her superstitions are growing.
Ellania also tries to conserve her voice as much as possible, which may
lead to her whispering or talking low.
As her band tightens her hair, so tightens Ellania's focus. Her main goal
is to seek out the Goddess Rarywey. Through Ellania's travels, she has heard
of the 'Drowned Goddess' The drowning aspect has raised questions for Ellania.
She plans to seek out the Goddess's shrine and look for guidance or otherwise.
This is her highest priority.
Ellania is pulled to the Drowned Goddess, really. She has been having waking
visions of an empty river, with the water just above her, weighing her down.
At night she may have a nightmare or two. Always dealing with the Drowned
Goddess. Ellania cannot see her face, but she knows the Goddess still.
Ellania is still filled with heartbreak. She seeks a muse, but also looks for
answers. Or maybe even the right questions.
Ellania's Personal Journal: Entry not Dated

It happened as if in a dream. I was by the Drowned Tree within Lady
Rarywey's holy temple. I was resting near the rowboat. Silently
listening as it jostled ever-so slightly in the water. And suddenly,
I was back in my lover's arms. He was holding me, as he often did.
I was looking up at him adoringly. Before I knew it, the person known
as Ellania Arcamenel was no more. The life of an Elf lived in a place
called Thera was just a mere fantasy, or maybe even a nightmare. It
didn't matter anymore, because we were together.
From there I was transported into a future. A future for the new life.
This... False Ellania. We were married. We had children. Many. They
were healthy an beautiful. I learned all their names. I spent what
felt like a lifetime there, but now as if a dream. Even as I sit here
writing in this journal, I can't remember a single child's name from
this false life. A life I wanted to be true.
I was ripped away from this bright future. I was reminded it was all
a lie. A fabrication of a troubled mind. A lament from a heart
shattered. I was transported to that very night. The night it was all
taken away. This vision, or truth, was ready to show me. I had fnally
come to my heartbreak.
It was a night. The moon was waxing. As this vision led me, I was able
to see this fale Ellania with her love. My love? He was kissing her
goodnight. She walked into her (my) home, but something brought her
back out. Something she needed to say or do. It was difficult to tell.
However, when this false Ellania found her love, he was intertwined
with false Ellania's rival. A woman who so troubled false Ellania, that
I couldn't even make out her face in the vision.
And there it was. An affair. It's difficult to describe the pain,
really. It was less of a pain, and more of an overwhelming blackness.
And I watched as the despair creeped across this false Ellania's face.
I saw her break. I felt it. And I continued to watch as this false
Ellania turned away from the horror she had been observing. Slowly
walk away. And keep walking, and walking until she came to a Lake.
She stopped, a moment, shed a few tears, and walked right in.
Ellania's Personal Journal: Entry not Dated

I was there as false Ellania drowned. I'm told drowning is quite painful,
but as I watched, I could almost see a sort of relief on her face. As if
this fate were better than the one she left behind. I witnessed as she
drifted down, down, down... Then suddenly I (The real Ellania) was pulled
as if in a current. One I simply could not fight.
At first there was panic. But then... Calm. Unlike any calm I've ever
experienced. I passed out of form and conciousness for a time. Then, I
saw it. Starlight. Starlight off in the distance, past a void of darkness,
but starlight none-the-less. I was whole again. I was whole and I can
remember it all clearly. What i had forgotten. Grace and Mercy. A
cleansing from something or someone. A being or entity pulling and pushing.
Seeing me as none other ever had.
Then, once again, there was the current. Pulling me. Faster, faster,
faster.
That was where the vision ended. I awoke in a sweat and out of breath.
I was back at The Drowned Tree. Tsiynil was looking at me with a wry
grin. I thought, for a moment, it really was all some sort of magic.
Perhaps I had been bewitched. However, as I thought and thought. Searching
my mind and spirit, I cannot escape the truth before my eyes. After that
vision, when I close my eyes, all I see is Starlight in the void.
Forward

- Ellania feels a bit more connected to Rarywey after her newest
vision. She seeks to learn more of the faith, and perhaps spread the
message. If she can get it right.
- After her vision, Ellania felt more attuned with Rarywey's shrine,
and managed to open a dark rift to a void very similar to what she
remembered.
- The vision has left Ellania with much to process. She's seen some
things in some parts of her that she's going to need to deal with. Her
other self committed suicide, which is appalling to Ellania. Not to
mention the pain of betrayal and death.
- Ellania will have to deal with some tough stuff, but she's a tough gal.
She has people, in the Fortress, to turn to. Let's see how that plays out.
- Ellania is also dealing with pressure as a Squire. She has asked her
Captain, Coqui, for more responsibility. Coqui agreed but is thinking
on how to go about it. Ellania waits patiently for her new duties.
- The Aubade holds a very special place in Ellania's heart. Not only
because it is a school for the arts (Which Ellania is all about) but
also because it was founded by an ex-Maran. Ellania hopes to finish
her vocal training there. And perhaps learn more of the head mistress
and her thoughts as ex-Maran.
- Obviously, since the last role entry, Ellania has found Rarywey's
shrine. She feels welcome there. The first trip she drowned, but didn't
see the stars, the second trip, she drowned and went back to see the
stars. Which may have ignited the visions in her third trip.
- Ellania's primary goal is to contact Rarywey, and walk her faith.
- Ellania's secondary goal is to be promoted to Maran.
- Ellania's third goal is to explore and eventually achieve the
pinnacle of her guild.
Librarian and Scholar

- Ellania has reached the pinnacle of her guild which not only brings her a
great deal of pride, but also has allowed her to study the most challenging
songs and vocal practices that there are. She is proud to note that she has
perfected each of the great inspirational songs.
- Ellania was lucky enough to be able to finish her studies at the Aubade
College. It was something she truly wished to do after meeting their head
mistress. A former member of the Fortress. The head mistress was quite busy
of course, but they did have a few very small moments to chat. At that
particular point in Ellania's life, it was very impactful to be able to see a
life after the Fortress.
- Something that Ellania did not see coming was a particular interest in scrolls,
talismans, and Holy Relics. How diligent Ellania has been, indeed, in the Hall
of Light. She spends days on end reading through scrolls, many that she creates
herself. She has found an entirely new side of herself that is studious and
curious.
- What Ellania has found is that through careful study and practice, one may
manipulate Light itself into a weapon against the wicked. She has taken to this
study quite seriously. Perhaps it is her new found gifts with starlight (coming
in a new chapter) that has brought on this sudden thirst for knowledge. Perhaps
the Light is similar in a way. Ellania plans to continue her study of Holy
Relics and devices in order to satisfy this curiosity she has stumbled upon.
Visions

The last we had the chance to examine Ellania, she was confused and dealing
with new emotions and thoughts within herself. She was troubled by the thought
that some part of herself could have taken such a road. She was ashamed and
frightened at what it could mean. Not to mention she was beginning to... see
things.
The things she would see were beams of light just in the corner of her eye.
Just far enough out of focus that she needed to refocus to see it, but when
she did, it would disappear. Similar to the weird lines one might get when they
shut their eyes too hard and then open them. You try to focus on the lines, but
simply cannot.
Since that time, Ellania has had the chance to meet with The Drowned Goddess,
Rarywey, Herself. Ellania was in awe, of course. She had questions, and Rarywey
was nice enough to answer. As they spoke, Ellania became entranced with Rarywey
and before she knew what had happened, she had asked Rarywey to be her muse!
Ellania felt ashamed when she realized she blurted out such a thing, but
Rarywey was graceful and accepted the request. Rarywey also allowed Ellania
to continue coming to her shrine to worship or marvel or gain understanding.
Ellania has also had several opportunities to speak with Rarywey's High
priestess, Zoraikla. The priestess is a darkling, and Ellania continues to
struggle with trying to learn from a darkling, but Zoraikla has shared very
meaningful and important things with Ellania about their shared Lady and Her
teachings. Ellania finds herself in a very strange place with this priestess.
On one hand, her training as a Maran tells her to be very aggressive with this
creature, and yet she finds her righteousness not pointed at this priestess
for now.
Visions pt. 2

After her meeting with Rarywey, Ellania immediately had another vision. Then
more and more over the coming weeks. You would think it would have been
overwhelming or horrible, but after her meeting with the Drowned Goddess,
things had changed. The visions... Yes some were cruel or of horrible
circumstance. However most were of people, none of which Ellania knew personally,
who were in great pain. And if Ellania could hold on long enough to see their
death, she would feel their IMMENSE relief.
Over time, Ellania was able to focus only on the ones who felt relief. And
that's when everything changed.
How is unknown, but it appears as if Ellania can see individual stars or
starlight even in the vastness of the void. Perhaps it is her Elven heritage.
Perhaps she was awake too long between her cycles. However it happened, Ellania
can glimpse starlight without the void. She can see it, now, if she chooses
to focus on it. She can see the poor souls who are desperate for an ease to
their suffering. And all she wants to do is be with them to help. But still,
if she looks ahead in the starlight, she can see their relief. Although it is
a bit blurry at times.
Perhaps this is only how Ellania sees a being's soul. As starlight. Still, she
can focus on them within the void. She isn't perfect nor does she have full
control yet, but she can watch a star illuminate, brighten, dim, and fade.
As Ellania grew with this ability, the ability began to change her. Slowly,
but the changes have begun to manifest now. Her eyes shimmer, constantly, with
light. Sometimes not bright, but still visible all the same. Ellania spends
more and more of her time, now, looking off into what most would call 'nothing'.
But I assure you, she sees something indeed. She has also changed in attitude,
and appearance otherwise. She used to be more strict about her clothing and
appearance. Having a nice tight braid with her band. Now her shining red hair
flies around untamed, but well manicured. She also has a wilder feel about her.
She still hasn't forgotten where she came from though, those who are observant
should pay close attention to her left wrist.
While looking into the void, Ellania did come across Her Lady's image in what
could, easily, have been a dream. But the Lady Rarywey stated simply that She
was called into the void, and could share very little time with Ellania.
Ellania understood when she awoke. The void, and the starlight within, take
up more and more of Ellania's time as well. She understands her Lady's wishes
and concerns. And Ellania wishes Rarywey well. May the stars prove more beautiful
than they look even from down here, Lady.
Ellania's goal's within Rarywey's religion are to try finding a way her visions
can help Rarywey. And also to seek out underground waterways and rivers, to
try better understanding or 'reading' her 'sight'.
Arcamenel

In this paragraph, I will try to sum up Ellania's relationship with the Fortress
and where she see's herself within:
In a previous installment, it was mentioned that the only possession Ellania's
village ever gave her was the band she used to wear in her hair. And that is
true, but they also gave something that was not a possession.
The village in which Ellania was raised was not on any map. The elders and
founders meant for it to be that way. They were neutral and kind hearted. They
kept a low profile, and thus no one even knew they existed, let alone bother
them. It was a peaceful and almost utopian society. The village (or tribe) had
no name, and that was very much intentional. However... Long ago, when the first
Elders had the vision for the village and society, it was called: Arcamenel.
This information was lost over the ages, and only a very small number of high
Elders knew. However, when a young Elven girl, who was scared out of her wits,
took to the road to find answers, the village gave all it could.
I tell that story to tell this:
Ellania joined the Fortress because she saw horros in the world. Committed,
mostly, by the wicked onto the innocent. And the foulness was only getting
worse. And, at the time, being that she was all but suicidal herself, she felt
that joining the fight on the front lines was the best way to be of use. For
a troubled young Elf, having a ready and ugly place to focus your negative
feelings can be very useful. However, things are different now. And Ellania
is feeling better than ever. So why stay and fight?
The answer is this: Ellania has bled, sweat, and cried with her allies. Her
Brothers and Sisters in arms. The Watcher. The Ancient Knight. The Tara'Bal.
Countless men, women, Elf, Dwarf, and all sorts of others. United in arms.
She stood shoulder to shoulder with these people, and along the way, she became
a family with her Fortress. Ellania has a new village or tribe, now. And she
will give them everything she can while she can... As long as she can have a
laugh or two along the way. And maybe gamble a bit.
One of Ellania's main goals as a member of the Fortress is to continue to show
leadership. In many instances, Ellania has lost friends when she kept her mouth
shut instead of making the correct suggestion. Ellania is not always right, but
she has experience that others can use.
Another goal is to look for ways to extend her life. Ellania has fallen more
than she would like, and she has A LOT of living to do. So she will be looking
to live longer so she can experience her new found acceptance and happiness.
