Description

A human man standing at about six feet in height. He has light brown hair which is well kept and groomed in the military fashion common to humans. His facial features are, at best, plain and boyish, though they are beginning to show signs of aging. The most note worthy of his features is his steely blue eyes. He holds himself with a confidence wrought through discipline and experience. Though he is getting older he apparently keeps fit and bears an exmplary standard of the human physique. His gear is well-polished and bears the holy symbols of Corrlaan, Lord of Archons.

Role

Closure

Added Sun May 24 12:52:36 2009 at level 51:
An old man, concealed by lengthy robes, approached me during my customary visit
to Balator's orphanage. I sensed no wickedness from him, but prepared anyway due
to my proxmity to the Empire. Upon drawing closer he revealed an old and weary
face, but familiar. It was my father.

I embraced him, glad to finally see him again. We spoke for some time of the past
and where I now stand. It turns out he was in solitude, meditating on what should
be done regarding myself. He explained to me that he was not my true father, that I
was saved from some violent sacrifical rite in the name of Beroxxus. My true father
was a priest of Beroxxus and my mother his slave.

He went into solitude to decide if I should be slain, and to give me time to turn
my very soul away from my dark heritage. As we spoke he smiled and shed a tear to
know what I have accomplished in becoming an Acolyte of the Golden Sun. He apologized
for ever doubting my path, and I assured him there was no need. That it was him who
saved me, in more than just saving my life.

After some hours he told me of his plan to live out his retirement in Voralian City.
We parted ways, a blessing to each, some closure for us both.

(Side note: Story may seem a bit fluffy, but IC events turned Elorik away from my
original intent to have him turn evil. Needless to say, the story had to evolve
with that.)

Update III

Added Mon May 18 14:41:39 2009 at level 51:
The dreams continued to get worse recently. I continued to dream as the demons
ripped my body apart. I watched in horror as if from a distance. The demons...
they all wore my own face, each visage contorted in despair, terror, or pain.
Close to despair myself, I found inspiration, and perhaps a respite from my
own sleep.

Humbert Holdfast. A great battle was wrought against the Imperials. It lasted
days, perhaps weeks. Time passes differently in battle. I began to think the
battle would not end, but then he awoke. We struck the Empire as a single unit.
Humbert charged into battle, radiating confidence. Even in the thick of combat
he kept his composure and issued orders to the rest of us, bringing us the
victory. The Imperial counter attack was similarly quailed.

Seeing Humbert, seemingly without a shadow of self-doubt, was a great
inspiration. There is simply no room for it, as it only hampers the dedication
to one's cause. As I have meditated on this, the dreams have loosened their
grip and rest comes much easier. My path is set and I think I know what I
must do, how I must live.

Update II

Added Wed May 13 08:39:31 2009 at level 40:
I'm beggining to understand the principles of purpose through my work as a
scribe. It brings a real sense of purpose and accomplishment to be part of
such a selfless organization. I might have been better suited to the life of
a full on priest, but my combat abilities allow me to get into the thick of
the fighting with my Maran brothers and sisters.

The dreams have been getting worse. I'm always running across the plains near
Udgaard, my destination unknown. I feel like I'm trying to get away, but don't
know what from. The visage of the demon, if demon he be, appears in the sky
occluding the sun itself. His gaze unerringly find me and with a chuckle opens
his mouth impossibly wide. Minor and great demons of all types fly from within
his maw, all intent on killing me. As they grow near I try to pray, but hear
nothing, I prepare for battle but realize I am naked. Needless to say my sleep
has been horrible and it is starting to take its toll.

I went to Rodin, he says not to worrry about it. To keep praying and it will
pass. I'm certain he is hiding something though. Still no word from my father,
aside from a few people claiming to have seen him in my travels.

Update

Added Fri May 8 09:43:01 2009 at level 30:
I have received the favor of Lord Corrlaan. Our meeting was short, but his
presence soothed my feelings of self-doubt to great extent. The Cardinal of
the Golden Sun also accepted me as a Scribe. Though I sought to join the
Maran, after many talks with those of the Fortress I realized my place was
better served as a scribe and perhaps one day an Acolyte.

As for the bad news, upon returning to Voralian City I was made aware that
my father dissapeared a short time ago. I spoke with Rodin and some of the
knights, no one seems to know where he has gone. I worry for him, but am sure
he can take care of himself.

Since then I have been having a dream every few nights, a rather disturbing one.
I walk in great plane of darkness, shrouded by heavy fogs magical or otherwise I
cannot tell. The laughter always comes first, but as I get closer to the noise a
terrible thing awaits me. Sitting in a terrible throne made of bones and sinew is
a great horned demon of whose visage I am unfamiliar. He sits chuckling to himself
apparently unaware of my presence, though I stand only a few yards away. A great
splitting pain enters my skull and I awake, always in a otherworldly cold sweat.

The dream keeps me from good sleep sometimes, but as of yet it is of little
consequence so I will keep it to myself.

The flock, the wolf, and the sheepdog

Added Thu Apr 30 16:31:29 2009 at level 15:
Combat is a conflict in which the goal is to destroy your enemy. The very
nature of combat and destruction is evil. Those who experience combat can be
taken by the taint and turned from even the loftiest paths of righteousness.

There are three types of Therans. First is the flock, or the sheep. Sheep
are citizens, and perhaps some adventures, who are unable or unwilling to
stand and fight against the unjust and dark. In most cases these are the
common folk. There is nothing wrong with being a sheep, sometimes the gods
simply do not grant a Theran the will power and ability to take up arms. It
is up to the sheepdog to protect these men and women in times of need.

The second is the wolf. The wolf is either one born to sin and beholden to
it. Or a member of the flock who has witnessed the evil of combat or conflict,
and been changed or tainted by its malice. They seek to do nothing but feed
off the flock and bring chaos to it.

The last is the sheepdog. The sheepdog is charged with protecting the flock
from the ravenous wolves. Those born with, or perhaps drilled, in the ways of
combat and of moral principles. These are men worthy of meeting combat and
resisting its taint. Those willing to sacrifice their very soul for the good
of the rest of Thera.

The Sending

Added Wed Apr 29 14:12:49 2009 at level 9:
At around the age of 16 Elorik completed his novitiate training with
the paladins guild. At this time is when the young men are sent out to
do the gods' work, so they may understand the nature of it. It is during
this period paladin's are expected to choose their patron god, based on
what they experience.

Rodin and Elorik's father were both followers of the Lord of Archons, but
when Elorik came to them for advice they both gave the same: "Travel and
see, let not our views cloud your own."

For the next few month Elorik traveled Thera in his quest to be deemed
worthy by the gods. He spent most of his idle time in meditation and
prayer. What little time he allowed for sleep, his dreams would guide him
on in his journey. A farm being raided by a small band of orcs, Elorik
would be there to meet them. A vision of minor demons being brought into
Thera, Elorik would seek them out and end them.

He began to grow tired. He wondered more than once if he was good enough
to fulfill the need of helping to protect Thera. Finally, whilst climbing
the treacherous paths of the Udgaard mountains and striking at the Loke's
men where he found them, an answer came. Stopping to rest near the shrine
of Shokai, I rock careened from the cliffs above and struck him upon the
head, rendering him unconcious.

He dreampt once again, perhaps this time even more vivid than others. He
stood in a pass, a familiar one, resembling that of the Gol'Galath range.
An unnatural mist surrounded him. From no where, an archon appeared in the
distance beckoning him. As he walked closer, he slipped and fell from a
high cliff and...

In a cold sweat, Elorik bolted awake. Unsure how long he had been unconcious,
the sun had set. He knew the dream as a calling from the Lord of Archons, but
did not understand the fall or adbrupt end. None-the-less, he prepared to
journey to the pass where surely his destiny awaited.

Background

Added Tue Apr 28 21:12:12 2009 at level 1:
Elorik was born and raised in Voralia. His father was of noble blood and
a knight in service to the Holy Triumverate. From the time he was born
Elorik was told inspiring stories of fallen knights, the Maran, and the
benevolence of the gods of Light.

When Elorik reached the proper age he became a squire and began training
with the knights of Voralia. He learned the basic principles and fighting
techniques of the armored warriors. He was drilled in the knightly code,
which greatly resembles the code of the paladins.

At the age of fifteen he believed he was visited by an angel in his dreams.
The angel spoke of the darkness which infested Thera and the need of more
men of strong moral standing and courage to take up arms against the ever
encroaching tide.

Upon waking he recounted the dream and its vividness to the knight in
charge of training that day. The knight seemed skeptical but sent him to
the priests none-the-less. Elorik met a priest named Rodin who served the
god of the Archons, Lord Corrlaan. Rodin recognized the ability to commune
with the gods within Elorik, but Elorik's abilities were not that of a
healer. His talent was born of vengeance and retribution.

Within the week Elorik was sent to complete his training the paladin's
guild in Voralia.
