Description

Unlike most felar, this felar is barren of any hair whatsoever. All of has been either shaved off or has fallen off. Replacing it are long, strings of ancient runes both magical and devilish in nature. They curl around his whole body like wisps of arcane mist, imprinted with dark magicks. Although most are unrecognizeble, some you notice are marks for binding, containment, and banishment. No part of his body is left unmarred by these strange markings. The stark pink color of the inside of his perked ears gives contrast to the rest of the body. On the marred, light grey skin the ashen and black runes are stark contrast to his smoldering, olive eyes. Flashes of ivory teeth, stained with crimson, can be seen when this felar turns toward you. The lower fangs so long, they jet out from underneath obsidian black lips. It is like this felar is a walking pentagram of both summoning and banishment, protection and denial, conjuration and dismissal.

Role

Envy And Vanity, the Beginnings

Added Thu Apr 7 13:47:51 2005 at level 11:
Slavery, no, petdom, may be the best way to describe the early life of this felar.
Brought into existance from the womb of an enslaved mother, this child felar knew
nothing but what he was born into, familiardom. He was the pet creature of an
essentric conjurer who spent no time adventuring, and whole time conjuring.
Summoning circles, binding pentagrams, dismissal runes, these were his weapons and
he utilized them, but always from afar. He dared not come close to his conjurations
for he knew full well how fragile the humanoid body was. He left such activities up
to his trusted familiar, Emonnev.

The conjurer stripped away his fur, utilizing magic to keep it from returning. And
in its place, the runes of his trade, that would allow his familiar to cross
celestial and rune circle barriers to feed, trade, manipulate, or other deeds
required, with outer beings bound by magic. The tattooed arcane symbols and runes
offered some amount of protection as well, they also allowed the felar to traverse
these barriers without disturbing their binding properties, and thus Emonnev was
the one who had all personal dealings with all the devils, demons, archons, angels,
nightwalkers, druk'trar, and whatever else brought into existance through the
will of the conjurer.

How does Envy start within a creature? It begins by watching, observing,
and experiencing, as a servant, Power and Control. The path of this felar
took his actions as a familar first as mundane requirement of him, but as time
went on, interest, then enthrallment, and finally to basic understanding and
the thirst for more, but in no position to gain any.

But the felar was not envious of the conjurer that he served, but instead those
whom were bound by the conjurer in various rituals. And the outsiders could sense
this Envy within him. The more beneign outsiders, archons and angels, saw it but
just dismissed it, too wrapped up in speaking of the light and the goodness it
brought. But the darker outsiders sensed it and saw an opening. For them revenge, as
well as a possible new servant upon these material planes. The bindings of magic,
as well as the runes upon the felar kept physical contact at bay, as well as magical
strikes, but the most mundane weapon of evil, whispers and voice, were still available
and no less powerful then the others.

So the voices began, first in the sleep of the felar, later in whispered promises,
and the Envy of the felar, seeing an avenue for furtherance and advancement, slowly
gave into the dark ploys. All of this came to fruitation quietly, and without notice
from the master conjurer.

The crashing wave of Envy upon the shores of Vanity

Added Thu Apr 7 14:11:58 2005 at level 11:
Tightly held was the power of the conjurer. Fearful always of losing it and
taking every precaution to avoid his downfall, even at the cost of others.
His precision was exact, painful in its perfection, his art in the magic of conjuration
seemed unrivaled. There was no demon he could not bind, no devil he could not command,
no archon he could not demand services from, and no angel that would not fight for him.
Even the nightwalkers and druk'trar, served his will. His position and his metaphysical
armor was unbreakable, his word irresistable. But there is always a crack in what seems
the perfect armor for one's Vanity, and that crack is Envy of another.

Emonnev's Envy of the devils and demons brought had reached its pinnacle, through the
quiet, but constant urgings of the devils and demons themselves, as they sat idlely by
within magical bindings of their own. Their whispers filled his perked ears, climbed
within his slumber, and tempted him within his dreams. The wave of Envy had welled
up and was now posed to crash upon the conjurer's shore.

The felar silently went into action, panged with guilt, but driven by Envy, and
placed a single piece of hay from the broom in the corner across the binding circle
of a lesser ice devil named Fa'dra'qin. The chattering of delight from the chilled
teeth of the devil shook the felar's bones as he scurried back into the corner to
await the wakening of the master conjurer.

When he awoke, he of course came to demand from his newest aquisition, which was the
ice devil Fa'dra'qin. Invoking the binding circle upon the devil was all that was needed
and the master conjurer did it perfectly, but the magic failed and the bindings began
to crumble as a small piece of straw turned to ash. A chattering grin crossed the
ice devil's face as he began to step forward out of the bound circle.

"Your time is finally up Faraqu.", chatterd the ice devil.

Faraqu just grins slightly, silently nods his head and disappears into a shimmering
portal. Leaving Emonnev to the zoo of demons, devils, archons, and angels. As the
magic of all the bindings fade with Faraqu gone, a small war erupts between the
factions of light and dark. Demonic puss sprays about mixed with the shining blood
of archons. Nightwalkers claw and are torn asunder by both sides as they try to
escape, and Emonnev can do nothing but cower in awe at the power before him.

The aftermath of the wave of Envy

Added Thu Apr 7 14:23:26 2005 at level 11:
Hours seem to have gone by and Emonnev is burned and etched from not only the
spells and magic used by the powers that were before him, but from the very caustic
blood of all who died there. Before him stood the ice devil Fa'dra'qin, pulling
a barbed spear of solid ice from chest of a lesser archangel as it still writhed
upon the floor in its final death throws.

"What does one do with you, my little pet?", the ice devil mutters as he reaches for Emonnev.

The icy touch grasped the very soul of the small felar.

"You shall serve me. Use your gift of driven Envy to bring you power, and such
you will bring me power. But your Envy must have an incentive, and so I will provide
it."

The ice devil's grasp feels so cold Emonnev almost feels as if his soul is numbing. The cold
continues until all that is left is a feeling of emptiness and loss. The felar slumps
forward into the arms of the ice devil, unconscious.

"I will put you in a place where you can cause the most trouble." it chatters again.

Left within the city of Galadon, knowing only the basic dark magics learned from observation,
Emonnev is left with an encaged soul, and a drive fueled by Envy.

The drive of Envy

Added Thu Apr 7 14:34:24 2005 at level 11:
Emonnev is driven by his Envy of power shown to him through his time as a familiar.
He is envious of positions of power and will do everything to gain them. He also hunts
because he is envious of those who have souls, seeking to capture them in a weak attempt
to satisfy his loss, be it for a short time.

He is also driven by Envy of Fa'dra'qin. The devil has power, and despite all
percautions by the devil, just as Envy usurped his former master's will, such may also
come about.

Lastly, he is driven by fear. For that which he betrayed may return to gain from him
some amount of revenge. But for some reason, in the back of his mind, he believes
that maybe Faraqu did this on purpose, allowed his Envy to bring him into action.
Such is not known. For in these lands Faraqu is rumored to be a powerful conjurer of
Theran renown. Perhaps Emonnev is part of a certain conjurer's revenge against those
of Thera itself.

The ice devil periodically checks up on his servant from time to time. Be it through
dreams or in a material form. He knows he must keep his pet on a short leash or he
will be losing control.

Part of Emonnev's plan is to seek blessings and mark of the one who gives power to
his Envy. That of the Pearl Lich Marmaanth. Through its teachings and embracing that
which already takes hold of the felar, perhaps one day Envy will turn into Vanity.
