Description

This elven paladin is here before you, about six feet in height. He is robed in clothes of darker shade, a contrast to the usual brightness that exudes from most paladins. His eyes are a dark brown, and an aquiline nose splits his face perfectly. Despite these features, the left side of his face appears to have been burned in some horrific event. Bandages cover most of his features, but blood still seeps through. The outer edges of his forehead and chin are charred black, creating a stark contrast to the pale skin of the right side of his face.

Filial Deception

Pain.

His face felt like it had been dipped in molten iron, and he could smell the
sharp odor of cooking and charred flesh. The agony and pain coursed through
his veins, surging through his body. Yet, like all pains, it began to dull,
and to turn into one of throbbing. His emotions, run amok, now turned to
anger, and one thought: deception. And then, there was darkness.

It had been his wedding day. Though not extravagantly rich by any means,
Erothaylius' family was wealthy enough finance quite an event. And it was on
this same day, an hour before he would be in wedlock, that fireballs of magic
streaked across the sky, crashing in fury, accompanied by the screams and
shrieks of all who were attending. Erothaylius ran out, only thinking of the
shrieks of all who were attending. Erothaylius ran out, only thinking of the
safety of his fiancee, when one the burning trees came crashing down on his
head. Clawing at his face, he howled in agony. As his eyes began to close, he
saw his brother walking up to him. Smiling, his brother bent down,
whispering, "If I cannot have her, no one will."

That day, was the day anger entered Erothaylius' life.

To Walk Alone

By an unfortunate twist of luck, Erothaylius survived that day when all
others died. His brother had fled deep into the swamps of Blackwater, and hid
there amongst the evil beings that had aided him with the raid. Erothaylius
could not live amongst the high elves here, who only looked upon him with
pity and sorrow. So he left.

Erothaylius became a loner, one who preferred only one person's company: his
own. His views became cynical, jaded, as he saw no true point in
companionship. To him, companionship and becoming friends only bred a point
of weakness in one's soul. For each person he became close to, it created
another bridge to hurting him.

Erothaylius lived by one major precept; To destroy Deception and to uphold
Honesty. To him, Evil walked hand in hand with Lying, and their child was
Deception. He saw little use for those who lied, and held contempt for all
that attempted to distort the Truth. And he would follow this code, in memory
of his hiding brother.

The Void Within

It was a sense of despair, in a way. Despite his conviction to destroy those
who deceive, Erothaylius was by no means omnipotent, and it was hard for him
to discover those who tricked and manipulated. They had no sign, branding
them a deceiver, and even amongst those he spoke with, he could not tell who
deceived and who did not, for they did not openly say such.

He felt lost, unsure of how to move on. He tried the best he could, learning
solely with those of the gray path who swore to never learn with a dark one
again, and wrathfully striking those of the Chasm, but Erothaylius felt a
void within him. He knew that there was something lacking, yet he knew not
what.

The Light

Erothaylius glanced thoughtfully at the Maran Tara'bal as he tended to his
wounds. Though he certainly felt more akin to those of the Fortress than
other groups and cabals scattered across Thera, he saw criminals who walked
their halls proudly, fighting in the name of vanquishing evil. And he
recalled the sun wardens of the Tree as they stepped from the shadows of the
trees, gladly destroying the peace and safety of the Cities in the name of
the Ancestral spirits. Ancestral 

To Erothaylius, they were dangerous to the safety he attempted to bring to
the Cities, a place he hoped that men could walk without fear of a dagger in
the back, or, like himself, fireballs in the chest. Yet, they were
lightwalkers, still. And Erothaylius, as his sword was high above the neck of
Eiyial, realized that to kill one of the Light was just as harmful as ruining
the peace. For peace without the light, would simply be peace in vain.

Justifying the Means with an End?

Erothaylius realized his folly after speaking with the disfigured Warlord,
Nnaeshuk. Could just simply saying sorry and showing regret make up for
actions of evil?

He had struck the guards of Evermoon to gain access to the midnight dragon.
He believed that the ends of granting Khelden the armor he sought to fight
the darkness, and slaying a terrible beast of evil, that he could make up for
the means.

Yet, Erothaylius understood his idiocy, and repented. For what he did, he had
scorned others of the Light who struck in cities for doing: Justifying the
means with the end. Erothaylius realized that to be pure, both the
intentions, the means, and the result must be pure. For one to be tainted,
would mean all was tainted. An ink blotch ruins the whole page, not simply
the corner on which it is on.

Erothaylius would not make such a mistake again.

The Shield to the Sword

Erothaylius, as he aged into his prime, began to grow restless. He had joined
the Tribunals to be a shield against those of deceit, protecting the citizens
from experiencing the same pain and agony that he himself many years ago.
Yet, he began to grow frustrated. He watched in helplessness as the Scions
reigned in the Rift, keeping the Scepter, the holy grail of their deceit. He
saw Imperials who had lied hide behind their council, mocking Erothaylius for
his inability to follow them within.

Erothaylius had grown tired of being a shield, and desired to become the
sword, a scythe to cull the lands of those who hid in within the shadows,
planning their next moves.

And at one point, he did decide to leave the Spire, to pursue his goals in a
more aggressive manner. But after words with Lord Marcatis, he stopped, and
realized that the ties between Light and Order were not yet strong enough. To
leave the Spire to those of the darkness would simply create another branch
of the Empire, one that did little to protect against the deceit that he had
wished to destroy. So Erothaylius decided to wait. When they day came when
one of the Light became Provost, it would be the same day, that Erothaylius
would withdraw from the Spire.

The Scarab Initiates

Initiates of the Scarab. Erothaylius was unsure how to approach these new
preachers of the Darkness. When he entered the Lyceum as well as the
libraries of Hamsah Mu'tazz, he learned that they were supposed revealers of
truth, even if it was a Truth Erothaylius did not believe in.

Yet, he found contradictions. Loshnak, an Initiate, was a true deceiver in
the eyes of Erothaylius, and when he saw Loshnak, as well as Isarbin, walking
hand in hand with Varuk, Ishtavix, and the various other Scions who hid
within the Chasm.

And as such, Erothaylius began to view them no different from others of the
Darkness, and more close to deceivers than those who dwelled in the Empire.
For to speak of Truth, and then live and eat with Scions, seemed
contradictory.
