Description
Blonde hair, hewn crookedly short, belies the grace of this
elven female. Her skin is pale, luminescent, thought marked
by the ravages of disease. A pox must have given her
these crude red marks that mar her otherwise smooth skin.
She is garbed simply, armor and weapons and clothing.
She has a rather stern look upon her fair countenance. Perhaps
the trials and tribulations she has faced lend themselves to
something called "character."
Her skin now is marred somewhat, scars forming in many places.
Here, perhaps the blade of a foe caught her unprepared, there
you can make out the mark where something large struck
her, breaking bones and skin. There is something of pride
about her, an aura of confidence and calm that highlights
the measure of her battles. There is also a serenity there,
hiding in her eyes, lighting up the spirit within.
Looking closer, you can see that....
Role
Words with the Dead
Added Tue Aug 26 14:12:41 2008 at level 51:
The undead Empress, Ahtieli, and I had a conversation. The words we spoke
highlight to me the difference between the light and the dark. The darkness
holds forth that power needs to be used for personal gain. The light, that there
may be cause without the individual.
It also clarifies to me my purpose here. I do not fight for the destruction of
any one or anything, merely for a miniscule change.
That, whether it be in life or in death, both foes and friends alike are treated
with honor and respect. That battles that must be fought because of
differing beliefs are fought with that same honor. That perhaps even some few
might recognize the worth of this stance, and seek to emulate it in some
small way. That is the measure of my life.
Ponderings
Added Wed Jul 30 13:44:15 2008 at level 51:
The Commander scribed a tale I found inspiring, and there was no response from
any. I would have thought that there would be something, some positive or negative or
even just a breath of notice.
Nothing.
What should I do next? That it failed once is no indication of failure, yet perhaps
there are other things to try.
What though? What would reach into the heart of a sentient being and inspire them
to better themselves?
Dhlanathas
Added Thu Jul 24 15:58:42 2008 at level 49:
I had a good conversation with this one, Dhlanathas, seeking the Ehren way.
We spoke long of honor, and the difficulties of the way, and of how others
may react to ones own actions. He has sworn to follow this arduous path, and
I wish him well upon it.
He seems young, eager and energetic, and I feel so very old beyond
my years. Wisdom, I suppose, the mantle of which I must shoulder
as others see the mark I have been blessed with and seek knowledge
and inspiration. It seemed so simple, so long ago, but there are many
more nuances I was not aware of then.
Still, I would walk no other path than this.
A story for the ages!
Added Mon Jul 21 15:35:34 2008 at level 40:
Greetings, Commander!
I have found a tale that I feel is suitable. It is the tale of Jaragh,
Now, he watches over the orphans of Balator, but in his time, he was a fierce
warrior. He was respected by his foes not just for his prowess in battle,
but also for the respect and honor with which he carried himself. In this time, Lord
Cador, a deity of some might, dubbed him the "First Knight ever to grace the face;role + of Thera." This mark of respect brought him to immortality.
Despite this, Jaragh found himself wearying of the heavens and their many
rewards. He yearned for his mortal days, where he was able to pit himself against
odds, to offer displays of courage and honor. Being but a simple man, he
sought out mortality again.
The gods, however, were not content with this. They blessed him with
eternal vitality. This one man would never die.
Realizing the dishonor inherent in not pitting ones self honestly against
one's foes, Jaragh retired from the wars and devoted himself to the orphanage
in Balator.
To quote Lorien D'allerian, Scribe of Light, the author of this work,
"After all, to return to war with his new gift would have been,;role + according to him, dishonorable."
I found this story in the lyceum, written by Lorien D'allerian, a poet with whom
I am not familiar. I have sent this to the Commander of the village in the hopes
that this tale might highlight to some the merits of an honorable life.
I suppose we shall see if this does indeed work!
My Life's Work
Added Wed Jul 16 09:23:28 2008 at level 32:
One of the key things that I feel is required of me is not simply to live
a life filled with honor, but also to serve as an example to others, regardless of
their path in life. As such, I need to consider how best to be that beacon.
My current thought is to speak with the Commander of the Battleragers, a bard
of some note that might appreciate the nuance of this message and be willing
to assist through epic poetry of some sort. That bears some consideration.
What other ways might I spread this message? I live it as well as I might,
a life of honor and virtue, courage in the face of adversity and respect for
those that walk Thera. There must be other avenues I can make use of to encourage the
growth of honorable conduct in this world.
But what?
Further blessings and lessons
Added Tue Jul 15 10:14:11 2008 at level 29:
It has been a busy day, already. I have challenged three of the
darkest hearts to duel me, and none accepted. I caught them on the battlefields.
Two of them fell, and nearly the third, though he proved the most ellusive
of all. This challenge, met with courage and honor, earned me further blessings
of the Ehren.
Honor calls out to me to challenge my foes, to offer them a chance
to face me with courage and bravery. When this fails, I may not stand aside
and watch the darkness sway, slaughtering innocents.
The use of intelligent tactics in fighting groups of foes is not dishonorable, nor
does it impinge on my courage when an offer at an honorable duel has been made
to the opponent. They were given the chance to face me with honor, and were given
all the warning required to know that I would fight them.
Only a fool ignores a challenge flung right in their face.
Early Dreams
Added Thu Jul 10 10:06:51 2008 at level 17:
As a child, I used to dream. I still dream, even now, when I sleep, but these
were different dreams. These dreams were fuelled by the stories I read, tales of valor
and decency, of actions flying in the face of reason and changing everything.
In Thera's ancient past there was an order, the Knights of Thera. I have looked
upon the closed gates of their fortress, read the tales of honor and courage
that were theirs to tell. I have also read of the betrayals and tragedies,
the cowardly actions that tarnished their name. I wonder, is every thing in this world tainted
in some way?
The most inspiring of these stories to my young mind were those of true honor. The
warrior who stood and waited while his foe recovered before joining the battle, the
call to do honorable single combat despite the odds and the grave risk of death. These
are the tales of my childhood, filling my head with idle dreams and fantasies.
I have grown up since then, and not just in height. I know of the wickedness that
can exist in this world. I also know the power an example can make, if it's true and bright.
Thought it has cost me my life once already, and is like to do so many more times, I
shall be such an example. Already, I have seen others respond in like. I know that there
is power in this, and that this power can possibly change this world.
I will strive for this, whatever the cost.
First Battles
Added Wed Jul 9 16:59:35 2008 at level 16:
I have found and faced two honorable foes in three instances.
The first battle went poorly, I was ill-practiced and lost to a shaman of Enlilth.
The second battle against that one was close, yet I managed to prevail.
I must encourage the growth of my competence, practice the skills of
my guild while retaining this focus. I have met many adventurers, and one, a would-be
Nexun, has even marked that he is impressed that the Ehren Way still has a following.
While I appreciate his regard in this matter, I also am saddened that
it is an item of note that there is anyone following the teachings of the Ehren
This is a cause for some consternation. How best to bring about this message?
On Honor
Added Wed Jul 9 08:53:04 2008 at level 9:
What does honor mean?
First, I do not lie, steal, or cheat, in any way, shape or form.
Second, I do not strike an injured foe.
Third, I do not strike without warning, even when it would be to my advantage.
Fourth, I honor both my friends and my foes, in words and deed. This does not mean
that I treat them the same, but rather that I treat them fairly and with respect as
befits one of the Paladin's guild.
These are some of the beliefs I will live.
History and Reason
Added Tue Jul 8 13:20:50 2008 at level 3:
In my life, I have often seen the wars brought upon the elves
of my town of Darsylon, kith and kin as the dwarves speak of it. Groups
of adventurers come, too weak to face the warriors alone, and yet they
hunt my people as though we were simple beasts.
These adventurers lack for basic decency, a sense of honor
and courage. There is no light to guide them, no spirit
to lead them to better things. An example must be made.
I have read of the Ehren Guard.
Knowing of the harsh path that they walk, knowing that
this sort of an example is required and necessary. I know
these things, and more. I know that even in the darkest night,
a single candle can light the way for those who would see it.
I would be that candle, brief though my life may be.
Introduction
Added Tue Jul 8 13:15:05 2008 at level 2:
A hard life I have chosen, I know. I will walk
with honor as my soul dictates that I must. I will be pure
in this regard, never seeking aid from any others in my
trials. I know this life will be filled with pain, horror at times
and yet, and yet, it is the path that I feel I must follow.
Ever since I have heard the tales from a young age, the
glory that was the Ehren guard calls out to me. I shall
walk that path until the day that I die.
