Felyndiira Ul'vrae the Purified Plaything of Perdition, Anathema to the Empire

Felyndiira was born into the noble House Ul'vrae, a mid-ranking house in Teth
Azeleth that clung to power like a rich old merchant clings to their last
breath: desperate, grasping, and just as pathetic. Had she been born male, she
would have been sacrificed to the Spider Queen as a polite offering for her
mother's ambitions, a quiet little "thank you" for letting her wretched
lineage persist another generation. But she was born female, which meant she
got to live, and so the real suffering began.

She played the game of houses like any proper daughter of the Underdark.  She
smiled while twisting the knife, whispering lies with honeyed lips, weaving
betrayals into the very fabric of society. She took it seriously for a time,
climbing the ladder with grace and cruelty, savoring every victory. But the
higher she climbed, the more she realized the great secret no one dared to
speak. The game was boring.

Oh, the betrayals were fun, of course, but they were predictable. Everyone was
trying to climb, everyone was trying to win. Where was the humor in that? The
only real joy was in pulling others down. It wasn't victory she wanted; it was
the moment before defeat. That fragile instant when someone still thought they
had everything, only for their little world to snap like a rotted silk thread.
That was the best part. A punchline so long in the waiting.

And so, she stopped playing to win and started playing for fun. She ruined
rivals for the sheer hilarity of it, whispered one thing into a noble's ear
and another into their enemy's, giggling all the while. She arranged for
lovers to become executioners, for allies to become the bitterest foes, for
families to collapse under the weight of their own trust. It was all so
delicious. She laughed and laughed...until, of course, she was not the only
one laughing.

The joke had gone on for too long, and her sisters had had enough. She had
expected an assassin's blade, a clean and practical end to her fun. But
no...they wanted her to see the punchline before it landed. So they dragged
her before the Matrons, weaving lies just convincing enough to be believed.
She was a traitor, they said. She was unfaithful to the Spider Queen, they
swore. She never changed her underclothes, they admonished.  Okay, maybe they
hadn't said that.  But her crimes were terrible, they gasped, and she should
be punished accordingly.

Her true crime? Making a fool of them.

She had mocked the game too openly, and now she was going to pay the price.
The Matrons, in their infinite mercy, decided not to have her die in the
comfort of her home, surrounded by the cruel elegance of noble society. No,
they would cast her out into the depths of the Underdark, where the real
monsters lurked, where even the most cunning were nothing but food for the
hungrier.

She found it hilarious.

As they dragged her to the gates, she kept cracking jokes.
"At least I don't have to sit through another dull banquet, right? Ho ho, This
is actually a kindness-now I don't have to pretend that Matron Valzareth's
horrid perfume doesn't make my eyes water. You're all so sweet, ho ho!"

When they threw her out and the gates slammed shut behind her, she let out a
long, exaggerated sigh. Then she started laughing.

Because the best jokes were the ones at her own expense.

Surviving the Underdark was awful. Not just because of the constant threat of
death...no, she was prepared for that. Rather because there was no one to
appreciate her wit. What good was a joke if there was no one to hear it? The
mindless beasts didn't laugh. The fungal abominations *really* didn't laugh.
She had no audience, and that was the real tragedy.

She should have died. She would have died, if not for sheer spite. If the gods
expected her to perish in some dark corner, alone and forgotten, they clearly
underestimated her dramatic flair. So she clawed her way through the tunnels,
bruised and starved, giggling between ragged breaths.

Then, one day, she made it to the surface.

It was terrible. It was bright, it was open, and it was so unbearably sincere.
Everything about it was an insult to her refined sensibilities. The sky
stretched forever in a way that made her feel insignificant, the air was too
clean, and the people...oh, the people...were soft in ways she had never
imagined. They cried over lost trinkets, clutched at their silly little
ideals, and whispered about justice and hope as if those things had ever saved
anyone. It was revolting. It was hilarious.

Still, Felyndiira knew she was weak here. She had escaped the Underdark with
little more than her wits, and while those had served her well, wit alone
would not build the future she envisioned. She needed power. Real power. The
kind that crushed dreams beneath an armored heel. She had ruined plenty of
people in Teth Azeleth, but she had been playing with small pieces on a small
board. Here, she could ruin everything. But first, she had to become something
worth fearing.

That was when she learned of the anti-paladins.

It was an accident, really. She overheard them in a city tavern, their voices
low, their presence unmistakable. They spoke of war, of cruelty, of
domination. They didn't just kill their enemies...they ruined them. They took
everything, down to the last shred of hope, and left only wreckage behind. It
was delightful. 

She joined immediately. She learned their ways, trained in the arts of war and
corruption, and soon, she began to flourish.

It was the Shadow Lord Frennya who found her, though Felyndiira liked to say
she found Frennya first.
"Who recruited who, really?" she'd joke.
But the Empire's cause amused her...bringing order through force, claiming
dominion over a world that had never (in her nascent imagination) known real
cruelty. And what, she asked, was funnier than rising as high as she could,
just to see how far she'd fall?

She took the Bloodoath with a grin, promising devotion to the cause, and
promptly set about making herself useful. The Black Sect suited her
well...sorcerers and dark warriors who understood the balance of steel and
magic. It was a playground, and she was the jester, the tormentor, the fool
laughing behind a half-mask of iron and blood.

She dressed the part, too. Motley and armor, a torturer in bells and blades,
skipping through the battlefield like a dancer at a festival of sorrow. She
let prisoners think they were escaping, let them taste freedom before slamming
the door shut again. She whispered honeyed reassurances before cutting them
off with a blade's kiss. Oh, did you think I was serious? Oh, sweetheart, the
joke was on you the whole time!

For the first time in her life, she was part of something that made sense. Not
a fragile house teetering on political games, not a society built on
worshiping a goddess who demanded blind devotion. No, this was real. This was
something that could last. And if it didn't? Well, that was even funnier.

And so, she laughed.

Because this was only the beginning.

She was rising now, higher than she ever had in Teth Azeleth.

And when she fell...oh, when she fell...it would be glorious.

1. She was promoted by Emperor Xaviun to Dreadlord simply because there was no
other choice available.

2. She failed to become Emperor, and Skauzyn rose in her place, but he was
strong, so it was okay.

3. She stood victorious in the arena, defeating all challengers, such as they
were!

4. She made a contract with Mevnush to make him her High Priest if she becomes
Emperor.  This was intended as a reward for his competence and efforts, but
became a strangling noose for her.

5. She has gained some small understanding of her power, defeating mighty Porg
and Drillmaster Veyrdoth, gaining control over the Icy Grip of Baalduru, even
though it seems a cruel joke!

6. She has been visited by a broken doll, and told to seek out the life
stories of others, that she might understand a bit more of Loss.

7. She has been named Emperor after Skauzyn vacated his seat.

8. With the God of Misfortune smiling down on her with razor sharp teeth,
Stornsarn awakened with mere days to spare, that she was able to fulfill her
covenant.

9. She struggles with facing strong foes with less than mighty allies save
Mevnush, who she trusts as much as a drow can trust.  She feels she would be
stronger on her own, but power and rule has its cost.

10. She has heard many tales of life from anyone who would speak to her.  Few
speak of loss, as if avoiding it, even when asked more directly.  She does not
wish anyone to know why she inquires.

11.  She has been suffering dearly of late, with bitter losses again and
again.  It is at these times she must laugh the hardest, or else she will
weep, and her spirit must never break.

12.  Frennya has been removed from her seat and replaced.  Zilga may not have
been the best choice, as Ssargrum is also very wise and valuable, but either
was preferable to Frennya and her distasteful behavior.

13. As she grows slightly older, and rises in power, she considers her legacy,
and must ensure she has a fine place in Hell, if she cannot find a way to
preserve her existence on the Prime.

14. She feels that Lord Nycruvae is furious with her slipping out of his
grasp, and hopes to make a different bargain with him soon, to mutual benefit.

Lord Nycruvae has told her that perhaps she has a fear in her that is holding
her back.

She has fears.  A great many in fact, but only because she understands
herself, or so she believes, but these, she can look at in all their terrible
presence and laugh.

For laughing in the face of adversity, misfortune, tragedy, and loss, despite
all the victories it claims over her, is what having spirit, and therefore
pride means to her.

But her spirit wears thin at times, the dance in her step falters, though she
hates to admit to herself.

Too many failures, too many losses, and she will fall entirely.

She would be foolish to ignore what Lord Nycruvae has said.

Something in her holds her back.

Perhaps it is ignorance on her part, perhaps she over thinks.

But the paladins, those timorous, misguided fools, have a saying: "Purity is
transformative."

She would normally ignore such talk as the ruminations of those that hold the
idea that an extra piece of dry bread might corrupt them with gluttony.

But for some reason the notion has stuck with her, rattling around in her
skull, along with Lord Nycruvae's words.

And then she had a thought.  An ignorant one, perhaps, but one that continues
to gnaw at her mind.

The influence of demons, polluting her from Darkness and Order.

Though her guild primarily draws its power from the Twelve Fiends of Cocytus,
it cannot be denied that the guild of anti-paladins directly traces its
origins to the Death Knights of Zurcon.  It is their legacy.

Thus are some of the teachings of the guild intrinsically linked to demons.

Her thought is that two of the things she has chosen to be taught are holding
her back.

Demonskin, specifically taught to be a channeling of the Twelve Fiends, is
strangely named.  Would it not be Devilskin, in that case?

Spine of the Akragaka, a series of techniques for wielding the spear and
polearm, is also named after a demon, presumably mimicking their movements,
though she had never given thought to it previously.

Both of these are powerful, and have been a tremendous boon to her.

But perhaps there in lies the trick.

Maybe despite their strength, they are keeping her from truly understanding
Darkness and Order.

She is not one for half measures.

Lord Destuvius may understand.

Lord Nycruvae already has done much, and more to aid her.

Perhaps Lord Destuvius will flay the demonskin from her flesh, and burn the
demonic influence from her mind.

Perhaps that will be transformative.

Perhaps it will ruin her.

Long ago now, Felyndiira proposed a contract with Lord Nycruvae for him to
make her into a death knight, a form of undead that formed the original
anti-paladin guild.

Felyndiira spoke with Lord Nycruvae about her feeling like some of her edges,
despite their great power, were holding her back from true greatness.  He told
her that she has a sort of demonic infestation which must be purged by a
ritual.

She gathered all she could of the items she was asked to obtain for Lord
Nycruvae, through various means, and awaits to be called to perform the
ritual.

Additionally, she had made a promise to keep the council full, which she has
failed in upholding, as such, Lord Nycruvae states her soul now belongs to him
entirely.

As she waits, she considers striving to do what she can to diminish the
demonic influence further, by trying to abstain from the use of the spear, and
any items that may harbor demonic power, despite how much strength it costs
her.

She must perform a delicate balancing act, both needing to be strong enough to
grow her Empire, but also not wanting to use the great power demonic or
chaotic artifacts may bestow, such as using a spear, the demonic mace, or
anything chaotically imbued.

She was given a coin from Korvasin, one he states is from Lord Destuvius, that
is for any (in Korvasin's words) wish.  Korvasin wished to be War Master.  So
Felyndiira made it so.

She understands this is poisonous, as Korvasin works against her, but
Felyndiira hopes that her strength will deter any votes against her, at least
for the time being, until she can complete the ritual, and hopefully grow even
stronger to prevent any uprisings.

With the coin, her greedy heart considers what power she might wish for, but
she feels it is in her best interest to trade the coin to Lord Destuvius in
exchange for him getting her soul back amicably from Lord Nycruvae for her.
In this way, she hopes, all parties may be satisfied.  This is, of course, if
the coin can be used like this, which she is unsure of.

But she believes in taking risks.

Nycruvae gave Felyndiira a great task to fuel a ritual to free her from
demonic influence from her class and previous decisions (edges), as well as
equipment she had previously used.

While working on her goal of collecting the required items, Felyndiira has
chosen to make every effort to not interact with anything demonic.  As a
result, she won't use chaotic items or equipment, or anything that clearly is
demonic, such as the strange black opal, belt of flaming demon scales, or mace
with the head of a screaming demon, despite how powerful they are.  She sees
them as powerful specifically because they can corrupt the user, and she
wishes to remain pure after the ritual.

Nycruvae completed the (awesome!) ritual, purifying her soul, removing any
demonic influence.  She also lost the ability to cast aura of despair, which
she foolishly not even realize was a demonic power.

Nycruvae stated she would feel weaker for a time, but she was now pure, and
would see her strength in time.

Felyndiira realizes now that she fell into the trap of the demons, having
invested heavily into bolstering the power they provided, leaving her feeling
hollow and weak, even still to this day.

The Empire she lead crumbled around her, those that took the oath too weak to
handle the armies of the enemy like she had alone for so very long.  Thus
Nycruvae demoted her to Dreadlord.

She saw this only as an opportunity to rise again.

However, the High Priest would not be swayed from supporting Jamantha, despite
her best efforts, and offering a contract to further the ends of the High
Priest's god.

She also tried to make a contract with Zizaerix to sway the High Priest but
she was passively denied.

Thus Jamantha, who she recruited into the Empire became Emperor.

She could have possibly caused a tie vote, but she would not stoop to such
chaotic acts and weaken the Empire, thus she gave Jamantha her support.

She considers this acceptable, for none can compare to her ability to endure
hardship and loss.

She has sent a missive to the servant of Destuvius seeking knowledge of how to
exchange the kite shield stamped coin she has, and awaits a response
patiently.

She has also offered a contract to Mavora Ny'vae for martial lessons, and also
awaits a response patiently.

The Empire, her Empire, crumbled to dust around her.  No longer did she have
any council, or any allies.

And so she was demoted from her position as Empress.  Now, once more, a Dread
Lady.

But she was unshaken, undaunted.

She wished a greater, more glorious fall, one to rival the one who fell after
he durst defy the omnipotent to arms.

So she continued.

When the vote came, she did not recognize any on the council save one,
Jamantha, who she lured from the Blood Tribunal to serve as her War Master.

Then she tragically found herself unable to claim victory from Jamantha, as
the High Priest Kiekua would not be swayed from voting against her.

Thus she chose to back Jamantha, making him the new Emperor, knowing her time
would come once more.

And it did.

Nsalga the Shadow Lord, fool that he is, mistook a bloodoathed for another, a
defiant paladin, and so torn the oath from the rolls.  A bloodoathed destined
for the Black Sect, her sect.

When questioned, the fool disrespected her.  Thus she sought the Blood
Reckoning.

It was not granted.  She would have to choose another way.

Jamantha, the Emperor, chose to ignore this incident, and the fool Shadow Lord
was not punished.

So, working with the High Priest and the new War Master, they elected to call
the Vote for a new Emperor.

Kiekua, who claims his word the most valuable thing to him, declared his favor
towards the War Master.

She would be snubbed again.

But he also stated, casually even, that he would vote Felyndiira for the
throne if the War Master, Vallael, supported her.

This was stated, she believes, to prevent her becoming an enemy to the High
Priest, and because he knew full well that Vallael sought the throne.

Felyndiira respected Vallael, so drew up a contract with her of mutual
support, and to make Nsalga anathema.

If Vallael proved victorious, Felyndiira's position was secure with the mutual
respect between them.  If Jamantha proved victorious through a tie of some
kind, Jamantha respected Felyndiira as well, thinking the High Priest the only
treacherous one.

Contract in hand, Felyndiira still chose to try to persuade Kiekua to vote for
her, rather than playing her trump card, but was not successful.  She would
have liked to have him support her naturally, but when push comes to shove,
victory was what mattered.

So she made her position clear:  Kiekua gave his word that he would vote for
Felyndiira if Vallael supported her.  That Vallael supported her was evident
in blood and salt upon the page, and thus he was bound, unless his word meant
nothing more than it does to any other.

So the vote finished, and Felyndiira rose once more to her high seat.

Felydiira, defending herself, and not violating Imperial Law, something she
takes immense pride in never having done, still found herself Wanted by the
Blood Tribunal.  Declared such by Jamantha while he was still serving among
their ranks.

Hildt asked that she turn herself in.  She chose to, under the condition that
Hildt make a contract with her to owe her a favor.

The pact was sealed, and she fell under his blade, willingly.

Later, Felyndiira declared the favor she demanded from Hildt would be to make
a contract with Lord Nycruvae, ensnaring the now Vindicator in the web of the
Empire.

She hopes Lord Nycruvae appreciated the gift.

Long ago she received a coin from Korvasin who stated it is worth a wish.  She
was finally able to return it to Lord Destuvius.  She received his blessing,
and the ability to ask for the answer to a question.  She could think of
nothing she wished to know, save for if it was possible to change her soul,
and to serve Lord Nycruvae under His influence.  Lord Destuvius declared it
possible, and if she would desire that.  She said she wished to know His
Wisdom, and thus she was fundamentally changed.

Time will tell how this affects who she is, but wisdom is now her pursuit.

Since becoming Empress once more, and her enemies cower before her army, one
she cannot take credit for, as it rose under Jamantha, and seems to decrease
by the day, she has chosen two conquests to pursue: The slaying of the
five-headed dragon Tiamat, and the destruction of the Primordial One, Cetea.

She has now accomplished both.  First Cetea fell before their might, then
Tiamat was put to the blade, both hard won, in a joint effort with the Blood
Tribunal.

From Tiamat's hoard, she pried a particular artifact, the Prison of Souls.
She considered gifting this to Lord Nycruvae, but she suspects that while He
would like a gift, a contract and exchange is more fitting and appreciated by
Him.
