Description

A sleek felar with dark brown, mottled fur prowls through here.A shield is strapped to one forearm and he grips a bone hunting knife in the other hand. His eyes, characteristic of all felines dart to and fro, as if intent on prey. Pausing for the briefest moment, someone observant can notice the nostrils of his nose flare slightly as he sniffs at the air. At the base of his neck, the unsettling sight of a constantly moving, gaping mouth confronts the viewer. His armor is light, mainly of animal hides, and through the gaps in its protection one can see his body contains no extra fat. Always moving, as if stalking some invisible creature, his tail betraying his emotions from time to time. He can often be heard speaking, though whether it is to himself, others, or that gaping maw at the base of his throat is difficult to determine.

Role

Speech

Added Fri May 13 14:38:41 2005 at level 51:
His earlier experiment with speech has proved to be frustratingly successful.
it seems like every young hunter he has spoken with tries their best to
imitate him, and it drives him crazy.

Slowly, he is attempting to return to a more normal way of speaking,
especially amongst those he speaks with often. No questions have arisen yet
over the change in tone, but the transition has also been slow.

He is quite impressed with how successful he was, and generally adopts the
earlier speech patterns when first making contact or when he feels the need
to "reinforce" his identity. However, he cannot also help but be amused at
how frustrated he is by all of the people imitating him.

Chameleon

Added Fri May 13 14:18:06 2005 at level 51:
He enjoys mimicry and much of it is done consciously. Much to Salrath and
others' annoyance, he has copied some of their mannerisms.

However, perhaps in a prescient understanding of the power granted by the
Ancients, he has always unconsciously imitated his companions sentiments and
less overt mannerisms.

This has had an ingratiating effect, no doubt. However, so much time spent
with elves, storm giants, and others of the Sun have caused his spirit to
sound an alarm.

He now has a better understanding of the chameleon-like nature of his self,
and is more actively seeking out darker companions to hunt with as well, so
as not to sway his spirit too far either way.

Legacies

Added Fri May 13 14:09:41 2005 at level 51:
Maelstrom of the Veils: Learning to enhance his already-powerful sense of
smell and training in darkness this Legacy has manifested itself into one of
the defining characteristics of his current hunting persona. Assassins,
thieves, rangers and transmuters have all been baffled by his uncanny ability
to "sniff them out." It has also resulted in a more sincere appreciation of
the wilds and more profound hatred of the undead, whose odor is anathema to
his enhanced sense of smell.

Surrounding the Sunrise: Fancying himself favored by the Ancients of Wind,
as well as the damnable Gaping Maw, it is only natural that he would be able
to dart around and exploit the chaos of combat.

Riddle of Resilience: After what was deemed a particularly cunning defense
of the Refuge, monks unravled the Riddle of Resilience for him.Shortly
after, in solitary celebration of his victory, he consumed far too much mint
and herbs. When he awoke, he could remember little of why he was taught the
Riddle, nor what it actually did, though on a deep, unconscious level, he
still understood it somewhat.

Dreams, Part II

Added Mon May 9 01:41:02 2005 at level 51:
In what was, to him, a delightful twist, Fereksah's terrible dreams
manifested themselves on another level. Not long before had he told a
version of his "pool of sorrow" dream to Reossi than he, the bard, and
Salvrath were in Organia. There a most terrible thing happened.

In an event that seemed rather similar to some of his earlier dreams,
involving ever-present "dripping water" terrible skeletons and a blood
para-elemental attacked the three, seemingly without reason. Fereksah
maintained that it was his dreams come to eat him, and now his companions
were no longer safe.

While it was obviously a frightening experience, it was also perfect for
Fereksah as it gave "proof" of his dreams to his friends and he could
therefore conjure up other dreams and warn them of terrible things that had
happened.

Heeding the Ancients' Call

Added Mon May 9 01:33:08 2005 at level 51:
After some time dwelling amongst the Outlanders a change came over Fereksah.
Whether this was caused from experiencing more closely the brutality of the
Empire and Spire, the actions of his companions, a true awakening of his
inner self, or a mixture of these three is hard to tell, but he went from
merely expressing the arguments of the Outlanders to actually feeling them.
Apparently this was noticed by the Ancients, and the Ancient of Wind became
his patron.

Perhaps more sincerely than he had done anything else in his life, he began
to take to heart the Ancients' wishes. As well, he began actually developing
his own rationale for some things, and found the spirit of the Winds invading
every aspect of his life. He struck like the wind, and was often in motion.
And the irrepressible urge to liberate and spread the word of Thar-Eris
gripped him.

The Empire and Spire found the full weight of his anger now. While others:
conjurers, necromancers, anti-paladins, and orcs were all odious to him due
to their repressive elements, he would dart in and out striking against them.

As well, he would spread the word of Thar-Eris amongst those that were
younger. He was careful, though, to only supply a little information, enough
so that his own interpretation would not be too cloying a scent.

The Outlanders

Added Sun Apr 10 20:55:24 2005 at level 38:
As a youth, he spent much time following around rangers including Huegyn, and
as a result began mimicking many of their sentiments in order to ingratiate
himself with them. He quickly learned about many of the goals of the
Outlanders--and their enemies--and was able to give off the impression that
he walked a similar path.

Huegyn and his friends died and soon he had no friends within the Refuge.
Much time later, a strange druid, Crendal, the Harbinger, began speaking to
him. He said that Fereksah's name was known within the Refuge, something
that completely confounded the felar.

Though after the passing of his woodsman friends he had spent much time
exploring tunnels and lounging in the cities, he brought forth again the
persona of the conifer-dweller.

When given the option of having a place within the Refuge, Fereksah (who was
still confused, curious and somewhat threatened by the fact he was spoken of
inside the Refuge without him knowing why) agreed.

Unfortunately, his days of lounging in the cities had caught up with him, and
the Harbinger told him he smelled too much of civilization and must spend
more time outside. Offering whatever defenses for why he would smell of
civilization, he set out to stay in the woods as much as possible until he
could figure out why he was spoken of inside the Refuge.

Much to his delight, this change of heart turned more than a few heads within
the cities. Still, he knew also that he was treading on dangerous ground,
quite unsure and fearful of some of the more mystical elements of the
Outlanders.

Dreams

Added Sun Apr 10 20:52:28 2005 at level 38:
When young he had a most unusual dream wherein he fell from a tunnel into a
pool of tears formed by monks that worship Sorrow. He had spent much time
searching for the tunnel of his dreams, but now discounts it as something
brought on by too much mint.

Still, that has not stopped him from telling it to many others (often in an
altered form for greater effect) as well as other dreams he has had.

Simple

Added Sun Apr 10 20:51:06 2005 at level 38:
One of the many orphans that littered the streets of Blackclaw, Fereksah has
never seen the need for sustained reasoning or idealistic speech. He has
never given much conscious concern to Chaos and Order, Good and Evil,
satisfying himself more with what he finds enjoyable and not dwelling on
troubling or confusing thoughts.

Mimicry is one of his greatest joys, and has formed the basis for much of his
future behavior, but like anything Fereksah adopts, is something that can be
dropped with little thought. As a youth he spoke normally, but as a result
of interactions with a cloud giant (Huegyn) and one of his friends (Ritur) he
has adopted his current manner of speech. In his mind, it gives him a more
likeable persona, and is also a distraction from inquiry and discussion that
is too deep.

As well, he has claimed dominion over a conifer in the forest of Prosimy.
Following Huegyn one day he was barred from entering the Refuge by the
Huntress. This, he shrugged off and found his own refuge in the conifer,
quickly claiming it as his own and maintaining that he had lived there for
some time.

There are, perhaps, two things that drive him currently. First, a conscious
desire to be seen by others as a clever hunter.Second, an unconscious
desire to paw and pick at anything that seems satisfied with itself, whether
it be a person, institution, or object.
