Description

Before you stands a curoius half elf. He is a rougish fella with an eyepatch over one eye and a malitious sparkle permenatly engraved in the other. His hair is dusty brown and ragged, as if he tried to cut it himself without looking in a mirror. He's a smidgeon taller than most of the humans that come to mind, yet still doesn't reach the height of a pure elf.He has the casual slouching gait of someone who thinks very highly of themselves, almost a strut. You also notice that...

Role

Past Events

Added Thu Jun 10 06:32:07 2004 at level 51:
Gaf the haf-elf, though he didn't know it, was the son of a high elf an' a
human from the desert city. His mother was a human call girl from the desert
slightly south of Hamsah. Grudgingly, since the father never stuck around to
see his son, the mother was forced to look after Gaf. A few years passed...
It came to pass that Gaf was kindnapped by desert bandits during one
of their raids, and a ransom demand was sent to the mother. Receiving no
reply, they decided that they must make some profit from their expedition,
and began training the child as one of them. On one of their nightly raids
into the Alchemist's shop, Gaf stubled upon a curious looking yellow liquid.
Always inquisitive, he quaffed it in a single gulp. The rest of the night
and a large headache later, he found himself on the doorstep of Jaragh's
orphanage in Balator, though he didn't know that. Jaragh mistook him for on
of the ophans that had gone magically missing after that fire giant left, and
took him in. Gaf, removing the orcish steak that was sitting on his bed,
decided that he would be happy here, and gratefully supplanted the orphan.
How Gaf survived the seemingly twice-daily raids into the orphanage is
unknown, though it is suspected that he used his cunning to hide beneath the
corpses as they piled high. Gaf really was oblivious to anything wrong,
usually fast asleep as they fell over him. One day he decided that his life
here wasn't exciting enough, and he replaced the steak neatly beneath the
covers.Again using his cunning to hop into the backpack of another fire
giant, he was horrified to hear his bretheren screaming. Horrified because
he realized what must be happening...it was the Chef announcing it corn and
mayonnaese day!Glad to be leaving now, he greatfully snacked on all the
bread and drinks in the giants backpack. Several hours later he
half-crawled, half-fell out of the giants backpack into a city blasted into
ruin. The first place he came upon was a guild in front of him, and picking
up an invitation to said guild from a drow passing out of it(some years as a
bandit had to pay off somehow) he entered the guild and began his learning.

Grim Revalations

Added Thu Jun 10 06:43:36 2004 at level 51:
Gaf began his learning an innocent youngling, but as he ventured out into the
world he quickly discovered that all were not as innocent as him...it wasn't
long before he came across a dark paladin when he was on his way to visit his
old home at the orphanage, and the merciless slaughter of the children
brought anger and tears to his eyes. His memories of peaceful and even fun
encounters with many of the children fueled his rage and he called on his
powers to strike down the dark paladin.Though he failed, when his eyes
cleared he sat in contemplation of all those times he had figured the world
to be a nice bright place. He reflected upon those memories of innocence,
and glancing at the children around him, realized that they deserved to grow
up in a world where they could experience the same joyful ignorance. He
hoped that one day it would not be ignorance that kept them joyful. So, he
vowed that he would do his best to put an end to it, because he had always
relied on himself, never having friends at the orphanage who would stick
around longer than a day or two. Eventually he read of the Fortress, and of
the Brigade of the Phoenix, where others were that might be able to help
them, so, he prepared to seek them out, hoping to find allies, or maybe even
some friends.

Fortress an' such

Added Thu Jun 10 06:52:47 2004 at level 51:
Joining the Fortress proved useful for Gaf. He was able to find not only
allies but friends from among both the ranks of the Brigade and the Acolytes.
better, he has found a place to put his shapeshifting talents to use.
Eager to learn and to advance not only in his guild but in the minds of his
friends, he set out to accomplish his goals. He realized that there were
several big obstacles on his road to peace, such as the Empire and Scions,
but he also realized with his constant dedication and perserverence would see
him though and over any boundries that might stop him. Whenever he is in
doubt, he thinks of the children, and how happy they are in their innocence,
and how nice it would be if they could grow up without ever losing that.

hope

Added Fri Jun 18 22:30:25 2004 at level 51:
Upon Scharnzs passing from the realms, Gaf was overcome by many feelings at
once. Sadness, anger, and despair. The Fortress is not as full as it was
when Gaf was recruited, nor does It seem like it ever would be again. Gaf
was confronted by Beroxxus on matters of despair and the futility of having
hope. For a short while Gaf was in contemplation of the affect his own life
was having on the world. Upon hearing the words of the Tarabal, however,
Gaf remembered what his mission was. He was to protect the light, and to
give up hope on himself would be to condemn others to darkness, something he
cannot do. He will mourn the loss of his friend Scharnz, but instead of
focusing his memories on that last moment, he will focus them on the deeds
Scharnz did for the light, and use him as an example.
