Description
. If you look closely, you can make out just a few features of
this...creature before you. He has dark dull skin, dull gray eyes, and dull
black hair with a thick, curly beard that almost completely covers his face.
His clothes are also dark: black, gray, maybe a slight greenish tint, but all
dark and dull looking, down to his girdle and boots.
. His manner is loose and relaxed, but his hand is always near his weapon.
He doesnt seem to be too mean looking, almost impassive really. He jingles
as he moves, but you cant see all the things under his cloak, that are
making the noise.
. Other than that the only thing you really notice about him is that

Well, I got a word in with the Cardinal Soayel, and anothera scribe I think,
Lyeden. I spoke some with Juliane awhile back, and Stefano may put in a word for
me to. Me and him tussled some, so I figure he's a good one to say what he thinks
of me.
Looks like I gotta get a word in with the Lord Corrlaan now, and see what he's got
to say 'bout it all. I'm sure he'll put me to the test, but it ain't nothing I ain't been
dealin with already, I just gotta show him, I ain't gonna back down.

Well, I been trainin on my own, and tradin a bit. Bein in the right place at
the right time it key to getting what you want. Ive made some good deals
off that, and Ive got a couple a Fort guys that have talked to me, at
least. I gotta see if theyll put in a good word for me. Im in the
Galadon guild, and Im moving up the list pretty good, but Im not
focusin on it. Boss Jardas is alright so far. Seems to be smart enough,
Ill see if he can point me out to the Big Boss. Ive noticed those in
charge, like to stay in charge, so they make better trades, to keep the Hall
happy. I wont rip him off, of course, but I can definitely get a better
deal, Id bet.

Well, thats bout it. I aint no beggar. Ill take an even trade,
but Im not givin nothin away for free. Im gonna become a business man,
and respected trader, now Im out in the open lands, and Im gonna gut
any Drow I can find along the way. But business first. I can get anything I
want, but either buyin it, or tradin for it. Im not one to hunt down
elves, or anything like that, I really dont care about the Lightwalkers,
or the Darklings, Im just looking to make my way.
. Square Deal or No Deal.
I think I might need to get on the good side of a couple of them Fort guys.
Ive talked to a couple, but only one gave me any time or energy. I guess
theyre too busy wailin on each other to stop and talk. Maybe them Acolytes
will be more willing to help me out. I dont see me being a flower-sniffin
goodie, but I aint wantin to be known as a thug, or bloodthirsty brute,
like so many of my kin seem to be. Ill take to a fight, if I need to, but
I had to take anything I wanted yet, I just make a deal. A square deal.
I dont know if the gods even care bout me not wantin to be known as a
dark-lover, but maybe itll help some of them snootier light walkers and
such, to deal with me. Its hard to get your name known if no ones
talkin to ya. I gotta find the Bosses lair too...Hes known throughout as
the deal maker, maybe hell teach me a thing or two.
Startin Out

What a lush I became after that. Once I started looking at those around me,
rather than keeping to myself, I saw more and more slaves, young and old,
male and female, that were being tortured, sometimes to death. So I kept
putting off my own escape, to get the worst off out instead. Yeah, I kept
stashing away my loot, stealing all I could from those houses where the
slaves wouldnt be around to bear the wrath.
This is how I came to collect masks. I found a solid gold one in one of the
larger houses, and even though I couldnt barter, sell, or use it as a
bribe, I kept it in my stash. It was too big to take with me, when I did
finally leave, but from there on, I started looking for other ones to
collect. Not worth much, but I guess since that house saw it as a great
treasure, I kinda started thinking the same. At least it was fun to plant it
in the House of the Mother who would have killed that female. Caused quite a
stir in the Houses when it was found. Heh, nice parting gift.

I met merchants, and learned to work a good price for my master. I
learned how to influence and lean on those that were weak minded, to
get what I wanted. I also learned that since the Masters didnt even
consider us beings, I could even go into the larger houses without question.
I learned to refine my disguises for the different houses, or types of
servants/slaves, and sometimes I would spend days, or weeks in a house or
group. I made sure anything I stole wouldnt go noticed, or if noticed,
would not be blamed upon the other slaves. I could take a beating if I messed
up, but I wasnt going to cause someone to get whipped because of me.
I started making contacts with the visiting merchants, and slavers. By giving
them the gifts Id taken from the different houses (or merchants) and
bribing them, I could get information about the outside areas, and routes,
and paths the slavers took. All info good to know to make your escape. And I
had a plan in place within a few months. I was going to slip in with one of
the larger slavers, disguised as a slave myself, and then I could hide out in
the caverns until they had all passed, and then make my own way. It was a
perfect plan, or so I thought.
I said I didnt have a family, didnt know or care about nobody else,
except where I made sure no one suffered for my mistakes. A couple days
before I was planning on making my way out, I came into a house where the
Mother was screaming at her man-servant to kill the slave at her feet. The
slave had collapsed, and it was easy to tell she was bustin out pregnant.
Normally if slaves became pregnant, outside the breeding pens, they were
killed outright. Maybe this one was worth more to the house than normal, but
the Mother, obviously had had enough. I smuggled her out that night, carrying
her, as her beating had taken its toll, compounded by her impending delivery.
I still dont know why I bothered, but I put her into the carts with the
other departing slaves, bribed one of the guards with the better part of my
hidden stash of Gold, and waited for my next chance.
Slave

. "I was a Rock slave", he told me, "as far as I know, I was always a
slave in the rock mines. I dont even know if I was born in the mines, or
if I was taken and put into the mines...I was just always there. If I had
parents, I never knew them, never knew anything but the other slaves round
me, and we weren't xactly a family, ya know." And so his story came:
I learnt to survive, I learnt to work, and avoid getting whipped or beat. As
I grew stronger, they made me a Brute, and I was put in with the other
Brutes, who just existed for the heavy lifting and heavy labor. The
difference was, that I could still think. The other Brutes had strong backs,
but no minds. They didnt talk, they just grunted a lot, or howled, but I
wouldnt call that talkin. It was easy for me to act like I was mindless
too, it made it simple to fool the slavers. Since we worked hard and didnt
seem to think for ourselves, theyd get lazy and set us to work, then leave
to torment other workers or, vain as they were, to pursue their own idle
wishes. This is when I started fixing the plan in my mind. If the slavers
left us to work, I could direct the others in what needed to be done, and
slip away, unnoticed since the work was being accomplished, and stalk the
caverns.
Those foolish and vain Drow couldnt imagine one of my kin to have any sort
thought, and there were so many Brutes working, the assumed there was no
reason to watch us closely. That was just fine with me. I started swiping any
kind of clothes, or uniform pieces I could get my hands on. I made a little
hole to keep it all in, and I learned that the Drow didnt even look at us,
so disguising myself as another slave or servant was more than simple. I
could go wherever and whenever I liked. I learned to walk softly and as long
as I acted like I was doing what I was trained to do, I didnt get hassled.
If I was questioned, I could just mumble like Id been made mute, and they
would get annoyed and send me on my way.
In this way I was able to learn the whole layout of the cavern. I could go
to the market, as though I was sent on an errand, and I could wander anytime
my squad was working somewhere. Our group was so mindless, and trained, that
oft-times the slaver-guard would just tell us where to go, and the group
would go, and just start working when they got there. None of the others had
the first thought, other than working, and not getting whipped. Anywhere I
wished to go, or explore, save out the front gates.
