Description

A large and stalwart dwarf stands here, very near four and a half feet tall. He has a bald pate though the forehead is lined with a few wrinkles. Encircling his smooth crown is a wreath of bushy, thick red hair that droops down across the sides of his face and blossoms into a full, thick, fiery red beard the hangs freely to his waist. His eyes, a light gray in color, peer out sternly from beneath his heavy brow. His bushy eyebrows only increasing the shadow cast over them. Within the shadows of his eyesockets, his eyes flicker quickly and in an observant manner. He is a heavyset individual, built rather like a barrel with a thick trunk of a torso and two stout arms, bunched with cords of muscle. He legs, trunk-like in their own right, march steadily and with a purpose beneath him. Just to the side of his right eye, pulsing next to his temple and swirling around next to his beard is a brilliant spiral. It glows a vibrant pink on the outside before darkening to a deep red on the inside, beating in time to the throbbing in his temple.

Role

Garwern Warpoldson, a History

Added Tue Sep 13 19:05:24 2011 at level 1:
Garwern Warpold was born a robust baby born into a good family in war torn
Mortorn. It was said that when he was born, he already had a full beard. He
went on to lead an industrious life in the military, a warrior. His wife also
led a life in the military as a priest with an affinity for mending broken
dwarves and instilling the will to fight in them.

Thus, it only made sense that when Garwern and his wife, Pegley, came of age
and settled down for a quiet moment outside of the War(as outside of it as
they could be) to have a kid, he would be a fine and robust dwarven specimen
as well. Garwern Warpoldson grew his beard early and it was a brilliant red.
His father and mother instilled in him a mixture of training. When his father
was venturing into the darker parts of the tunnels, he would stay with his
mother and learned the basics of healing and praying. When his father was
training and topside, he learned the basics of War. Between the two of them
he was infused with a sense of righteousness and chivalry befitting of his
parentage.

Naturally, he enlisted in a school that focused on the mixture of the two. He
signed up to be a Priest-Knight, or a Paladin, the moment he as of age and
began the very basics of rudimentary training to better smite the fiends that
the duergar below had enlisted.

However, days into his training(which took place in Akan) he received grave
news. He was told that his Father and Mother were both slain. They had been
operating in tandem in the southern tunnels. A dark demon known for the dense
smoke that surrounded him and his hold on a legendary weapon known as the
Hand of Doom collapsed the entirety of the tunnel with a viscous blast. There
were no survivors.

Having known this was a possibility from the start, Garwern Warpoldson took
it rather well. But it was at that moment that he knew Mortorn was no longer
the place for him. This War was just one of many, and so, with a fire
instilled inside of him by the tragedy of his parents and a sense of a
greater purpose, Garwern took to the streets. After a few months of travel,
and seeing a good many places, he finally came to call Hamsah Mu'tazz home. A
city that was rough, rowdy, and beset on all sides by darkness. From there,
Garwern decided to continue his training.

A summary as of now

Added Sat Oct 15 10:27:43 2011 at level 51:
Life was going very well for Garwern, however it has become increasingly and
difficult.

He became a Maran, and earned Iunna's mark. He was also blessed with
Fortitude and Temperance, effectively making him feel strongly and
confidently that he was on the right track and accomplishing his goal in
life- to make a difference in the war of good and evil.

However, then Iunna disappeared. It has been a long and arduous thing,
dealing with her disappearance. Beginning with a collection of disturbing
dreams and punctuated by distressing events such as orc attacks and attacks
by a possessed Iunna herself is beginning to catch up to him; Garwern is
constantly stressed out and worried about it. This has led to him having a
short temper and being terse at times. He looks into any lead with vigor and
expends a good deal of energy in his pursuit for her.

This is not helped out by the fact that all of her faithful and all involved
have more or less turned to him as a central figure and rely on him to keep
them up to date in the news regarding her disappearance which puts yet more
pressure upon him. However Garwern is strong and determined not to break
under the stress, reminding himself that whatever he is going through, Iunna
is going through much worse.

So, Garwern lives day to day waiting for a sign, and trying to pass the time
in as normal a fashion as a Maran can, until then.

The Tale of how Iunna came to be a BattleRager(Part 1)

Added Fri Oct 21 01:32:42 2011 at level 51:
From the journal of Garwern Warpoldson, a veteran Maran, dwarven crusader and
Iunna's own knight. As written to Skeeta for entrance into the Lyceum.

-It all started when I was tattooed, ironically. Iunna clawed my face up, and
marked Aughasyerban as well, and we said goodbye. Everything was fine. Sure,
it was unusual that we didn't see her for a few days but Iunna is the kind of
gal that's always in motion. You can't expect her to be predictable all the
time. Anyway, shortly after a notably prolonged absence is when they started
happening. The nightmare that is, they were terrible. Visions, awful visions.
Bloody thrones, empty bars, an elf with a collared Iunna....We saw all of
those things...I knew it was bad.

-I began to start doing research, and slowly I began to meet others who were
experiencing similar nightmares and foreboding visions. Together, they formed
what I dubbed the Faithful. They were a collection of men, all faithful to
some aspect of Iunna's religion, the Fire, War, or Poetry. There was
Aughasyerban(BattleRager), Odrallag(BattleRager), Bhaeyrn(Fortress Squire),
Azalix(Battle Rager), Ozrek(Fortress Maran) and myself(Fortress
Maran)...there may have been even more. But those were the ones that stuck
out in my head.

-Days of research and interrogations all yielded few results, if any. We
spoke to Olar on a regular occasion, some of the Faithful even had contact
with Ludan, from Mortorn. Kalielle, a jade-elf from the Flames that Iunna
called home was in constant contact with us. She knew Iunna better than any
of us save perhaps myself and together we began to piece together the visions
and the clues. It was very frustrating, as there were few solid leads...all
we knew was it involved Iunna. We suspected it involved an old enemy of
Iunna's and scion named Jacynth, and we had the idea of Blood Magic but that
was all. Until...one day a lot of things happened at once.

-First, zombies struck. They hit the Fortress hard and it took a considerable
amount of power to repel them. They were very..sentient, and adapted to our
attempts to repel them quickly. It was clear their maker was no novice in the
magic. We heard the Village had been hit too. I personally went to Iunna's
shrine with Odrallag only to find it was under attack by the zombies as well.
After we repelled all the attacks we spoke further with Kalielle, the jade
elf. She said that Iunna had left behind her favored weapon. That did not
bode well.

The Tale of how Iunna came to be a BattleRager(Part 2)

Added Fri Oct 21 01:33:45 2011 at level 51:
-The only commonality between those three places was that they were all
places you could either find Iunna, or her Faithful. That's the way you
really piss off Iunna, you go after those she cares about. She's sort of like
a dwarf in that regard. And that was confirmation that it was Jacynth, the
Herald-turned-Scion Goddess behind Iunna's disappearance. We knew they had to
know Iunna on a personal level and Jacynth and Iunna had a history that was
rife with betrayal. It was further confirmed by my visions.

-I had been sleeping. The first uninterrupted rest I'd had in days. Or so I
thought...that's when I heard it. It was a mewling a sort of pitiful sound.
It was quiet, but urgent, and it jarred me awake. And there she was, Iunna.
She was half hidden in the shadows but she gave me a hug and seemed well
enough aside from all the backwards glances over her shoulder. She avoided
any of my urgent, demanding questions saying that she didn't have time. She
said staying in place was death...gave me another hug...and then she ran off.
Shortly after I found out from Kalielle that she'd been by the Flames. She
hadn't said a word to anyone. Just grabbed her weapons and left a note
telling me to not do anything and that she was handling it.

-Some more time passed. We learned little except that Thror had been rarely
seen of late. Suddenly, orcs assaulted the Fortress. We killed all save one.
After promising we would spare his life if he in turned promised that he
would never harm the light he began telling us all he knew. He said that he
had seen Iunna and she had been gravely injured. That was all he knew.
Afterwards, we trekked to Thror's mountain home where we met a dwarf rushing
on his way out of the mountain. He was very tight-lipped and didn't say
anything. But he noticed my mark and warned me that the 'fire was
fading'...before he dashed off I recognized that he was branded with the
Incarnadine Spiral, Iunna's mark. Only one dwarf besides me bore that mark,
and that was Lord Thror. Why Lord Thror was disguised and on the run was
something we could only guess about, but we knew it wasn't good.

-Soon after our encounter with a disguised Thror, we all began feeling that
something...wasn't right. We went to Kalielle for help. She sensed it too.
She thought that Iunna had been captured by Jacynth. By putting together the
visions, we theorized that she was now under their control via blood magic.
After a few days, we had our answer.

The Tale of how Iunna came to be a BattleRager(Part 3)

Added Fri Oct 21 01:35:10 2011 at level 51:
-Nightwalkers set upon the Fortress, thickly. Then, a clearly corrupted Iunna
appeared. She was wearing a ruby collar with a single bell on it and we knew
it was the source of all the evil magic present that was controlling her. She
appeared as a Scion and between her and the nightwalkers our ranks never
stood a chance. However, there were two rays of hope. Firstly, it was clear
her control wasn't perfect. She killed the nightwalkers as well as our men,
and when she took the radiant crystal orb from it's hallowed spot she snapped
into herself for a moment. She merely muttered 'Oh...uh....I gotta go.' and
left. Secondly, the Sapper Brigade that is usually commanded by Thror showed
and helped drive off the nightwalkers. We knew that by this point that
everything was coming to a head and we met in council to discuss all we knew.

-After many hours of long discussion in the Fortress we came to this
conclusion. The Scion forces wanted to fulfill their prophecy(which calls for
the destruction of Thera), and planned to do so by having both divine
entity's that watch over the primal element of Fire under their control.
Those two entities were Lord Thror and Iunna Ashfoot. We knew they had Iunna
under their control, and that to get Lord Thror under their control they
would have to strike the Village. We decided to make our stand there, as
their attack would be forthcoming shortly we knew.

-I was far away with Odrallag when we noticed the shadowy mist encompassing
us and headed for the Village, we knew it was time. We marshalled our forces.
There we stood, Odrallag, Calaras, Mahkreen, and Rydeni of the Village.
Myself, Orthas, Bhaeyrn, Llarilin, and Bohvik stood for the Fortress. It was
bad at first. The Nightwalkers swarmed us, there were tons of them, and Iunna
came through their midst carving a swathe of destruction right to the Village
gates.

-We were all on the defensive...some of our men went down. I got separated
for a time and was hard pressed for the entirety of the conflict. Then, the
entire Sapper Brigade arrived and reinforced our ranks. With their help I was
able to carve a passage to retreat and rejoin with Llarilin, Bohvik, Orthas,
and Bhaeyrn. We slowly began battling back to the Village, which was under
heavy siege, Iunna at the heart of it all with that damned collar.

The Tale of how Iunna came to be a BattleRager(Part 4)

Added Fri Oct 21 01:37:23 2011 at level 51:
-As we paused to regroup for a second one of the Sappers broke away and same
to me, he was heavily wounded by Sappers are a tough bunch, and you wouldn't
know it from the way he conducted himself. He unsheathed a pristine white
blade that was clearly fireforged. It was named "K'Prurian". He promised me
he would get me to Iunna, but he told me it had to be me. That I would know
what to do. With that he turned. And we charged.

-The chaos was brutal but the Sappers formed the wedge and drove us into the
thick of it. There they formed a protective circle around me and Iunna and I
began, much to my chagrin, to fight. The whole time I was on the defensive,
Iunna, even possessed, is a fierce foe plus I had no interest whatsoever in
harming my Goddess. I was just looking for an opening, the perfect strike, to
bring down K'Prurian on the collar that was the root of her incapacitation.
Finally, as my strength was beginning to fade and her constant attacks began
to wear down my defenses she turned slightly to the side and I saw my
opening. With a dwarven battle cry I rushed in, and time seemed to slow as I
brought K'Prurian down in a mighty glancing blow, intended only to sever the
collar and not in anyway harm Iunna. Luck was with me that day, for the
collar broke in two and from out of it an unearthly, elvish scream howled.
Iunna was free.

-Sadly, our woes were not over yet. There were still troves of Nightwalkers
to fight, and Iunna bore the brunt of the assault as the Sappers and our
forces were near exhausted. Thror appeared when things were most dire and he
and Iunna together forced their way into the Village...but our straits were
not yet passed as the wounds on Iunna were grave. She crawled inside the
Village to the Throne, where she lay near fatally wounded. I yelled, and
screamed for permission to enter so that I may tend her wounds but Thror
insisted that no priest was necessary. After all, the Villagers do not accept
prayers...and Iunna had found her home amongst them now. One cannot begrudge
her distaste for magic after being in servitude to it's darkest arts and
after all, her spirit was always a fighter's spirit. It is a good home for
her. After a time she recovered and took her place besides Thror watching
over the BattleRagers.

-As for me, Thror and Iunna sought individual audiences with Odrallag and I.
Our training was private, and it is not something to be written into words. I
do not know what Odrallag's meeting entailed but I am now one of the elite
Sappers. It is a high honor that I am proud to have been blessed with. And
Odrallag was marked as well by the Spiral, bringing the current count of
Iunna's Most Faithful to myself, Odrallag, and Aughasyerban at the time of
this writing.

Long live the Faithful, Long live Iunna!

-Garwern Warpoldson
