Description

The short, cloaked and cowled figure that you gaze upon must be nearly four feet and stands quietly and still with an ominous air. Dark energy seems to exude from it in an almost palpable fashion, enhanced by the dark black and purple silk robes that are intricately decorated with silver and gold thread linings.A scent of rich perfume and iron assails you, the smell of sweet cinnamon mixed with blood permeating the air. Twin lavender eyes that glow with both a mixture of condescending false compassion and hunger gleam here in the shadows of its hood, and a row of immaculately kept white teeth shine from a curled smile. As the shadows part you note the facial features of a young duergar, his black beard trimmed sharp with an almost painful artistry. His hands are clasped in front of it in a gesture that seems to emanate a combination of patience and calm meditation, a dangling chain of boned prayer beads movingly methodically through his fingers as though in deep and constant communion.

His father, a talented but self absorbed duergar warior had climbed 
through through the ranks of the imperials blades to a rank of Elite,
was eventually stripped of honor and reduced to a palace centurion,
reward for a failed raid that was a combination of being manipulated
by the Black Sect and being reckless for glory and victory before his
time. His mother was a dwarven slave, and fortunately for him, gave him
the gift of patience and a quiet nature,while his father gave him dark
skin and a thick beard that masked his mixed heritage. Like most duergar
fathers,his father largely ignored him, criticised or treated him like
a minor inconvenience to be tolerated, instead favouring his younger brother
with both poor instruction and sickly doting, and while both sons were
encouraged to do as they would in the service of the codex, Gerelexes
chose instead the the path of the Divine, tales of the power and Enlilth,
filling his ears with an almost obsessive intent to regain the honor and
authority within the Empire that was due to him.


Five years spent in the wilderness, Gerelexes was fortunate to find the
interest of a dark elven shaman who kept him as a body servant and gave
him instruction to the ways of faith not through instruction, simply by
letting Gerelexes remain unobserved and unmolested, as the Divine fought,
prayed and cut a blood swath of victory against the enemies of the Empire
with a zeal and strength that Gerelexes craved. The Divine had a curious
demand that no swearing or foul language would be tolerated, and Gerelexes
learn the lesson early through a lapse which resulted in him gaining a long
and memorable scar across his back. In return, Gerelexes gained patience,
a devotion to his physical appearance and an almost pristine grasp of the
language and speaks without any trace of a duergar accent. In the stillness
of the morning he practiced with his axe and sword, while committing to
memory the various litanies that his mentor and master used in battle. 
His time would come. And when it came it would be filled with blood, 
glory and power.
