Description
You see a short, robust young man with unkept shoulder
length black hair and a long, loose black beard. His eyes
are extremely pale and contrast quite a lot with his tanned
skin. Not particularily handsome, but not particularily ugly
either, this man's face is emotionless. He wears clothes
apparently more comfortable than fancy, under an assortment
of differently shaped pieces of armor covering almost his
entire body. The sleeves were ripped off his shirt so only
his muscled arms remain bare.
Role
The orphanage.

Some may say Gerhaul has had a difficult youth. It surely
isn't his opinion.
Gerhaul was left by his parents at the Balator's orphanage
when he was a 6 month old baby. It is there he first knew
solitude. He seemed like a normal baby but as he grew up,
he was quickly set appart from the other children. When the
others were playing games together, he prefered staying on
his own, always silent and apparently disinterested. The
other children noticed it and eventually began mocking him.
But that didn't change anything in Gerhaul's behavior. He
simply felt more and more comfortable with his solitude.
Balator is not a quiet place. With the Imperials lands just
north, the children of the orphanage would often witness
bloody battles. The orphanage was also an interesting mass
of vulnerable preys for young training adventurers. Many
orphans died in front of Gerhaul's eyes. Their death frightened
him somewhat at first, but after a while, to see one of the
barstards who kept mocking him being savagely decapitated
amused him. He knew where to hide, but also he knew someday
his time would come. And one night, it almost happened.
That night the yelling of one of teachers took him out of his
sleep, but it was already too late. Three tall silhouettes
were entering the room, swinging their weapons over the beds.
Miraculously, Gerhaul dodged one the silhouette's blow and
managed to run out of the room, then out of the orphanage.
He ran out of Balator and decided that night to find a new
place to stay. He was 10 years old.
An interesting discovery.

It is in Arkham that Gerhaul found refuge. There were fields
nearby where he could steal food, and gloomy abandoned houses
where he could sleep in peace. It is then that Gerhaul's
life really began. For years he learned to survive. Stealing
when he could, running away when he was caught or hunted
(Arkham isn't always a peacefull place). But he felt free
doing whatever he wished to do.
At the age of 16, he joined the Arkham guild of warriors and
grew rather quickly through the ranks. At the same time, he
began asking himself a lot of questions. About him, about
the others, about the world in which he was living. He read
a lot, everything he could find. He read things about the
past ages of Thera, about the battle of the Gods, about
religions...and eventually found something rather appealing.
For some reason, he had immediately been touched by the
words he was reading. He kept reading them, over and over.
It was a text about the cult of the Scarab.
The Onyx Scarab.

Gerhaul had always asked himself a surprising amount of
questions, one of them about the behavior of others. He
couldn't understand why none was living for himself. The
discovery of the cult of the Scarab had then helped him
understand. "They refuse to see..." would he sometimes
whisper to himself, when alone, resting in the darkness
of the night. One couldn't find better ambiance then a
silent, pitch-black night, where there is nothing to draw
one's attention other then his own breath. He had cherished
the darkness before when he was a young boy, hiding from
the assaults on the orphanage. Later, he cherished them
because they kept him focus on himself.
With his studies of the cult of the Scarab, the concept
of the fog of illusions became more and more clear to him.
And in his heart the desire of breaking it grew stronger.
More than ever was he enjoying killing a paladin, or any
other blind fool.
Then one night, when he was 24, he noticed that the Demon
Goddess was awake. Briefly, he closed his eyes and emptied
his mind of all thoughts he may have had. A moment later,
he decided he would be an Initiate of the Onyx Scarab. He
went to Her shrine and prayed for the first time of his
life. A few moments afterwards, he was bearing the mark
of the Onyx Scarab.
