Description
A thick and hearty storm giant stands before you towering at about twelve
feet tall. She is quite in shape with toned lean sinew, although her stomach
looks like she might enjoy the quail falling out of her bags a little too
much. Her ocean blue complexion shines with a matte reflection as you notice
pinpoint yellow freckles covering what skin is exposed. Her armament is a
hodgepodge smattering of leathers and furs with an assortment of weapons to
go with her shield. She looks as if she lives a martial lifestyle, but
judging just by her weaponry and appearance you'd guess she's more than just
muscle.
Her hair is snow white and pulled into a tight bun that sits on top of her
head secured with a strand of strong vine. Big floppy ears jut out from the
sides of her head so much that you almost feel like it'd be rude to stare any
longer. Cerulean eyes with flecks of amber dart about observing her
surroundings as they sit below two large white bushy eyebrows. Her bulbous
nose flares slightly with each breath filling her giant sized lungs. A kind
smile seems to never leave as her pale pink lips give you a sense of comfort,
but the way she furrows her brow, you'd think things could change quickly
for an enemy. Looking closer, you also notice that...
Role
The Du'Akkin Tribe
Added Tue Apr 20 15:49:12 2021 at level 11:
Ah, Gharanja Blightbane of the Du'Akkin tribe. Most souls wouldn't display
the resilience of this one, especially after such a dastard betrayal, but
here she is... still walking... still running to her purpose.
Gharanja was a priest of the Du'Akkin, a mysterious tribe hidden in the spray
of the Western Aryth. Storm giants were prominent, but there were still many
humans, saurian, and arial as well. The origins of the tribe are unknown, nor
who gave them their purpose. But, they solely existed to destroy any and all
creatures of undeath. There were never issues on the island, everyone had
integrity and were committed to their fight. Or so they thought.
Gharanja excelled at this more than any of her peers, earning her the role of
the Boat Guider, which was quite possibly the most important role of the
Island. When a young Du'Akkin was ready to begin their life as an adult, they
must go on a spirit journey with a guide to a nearby Island swarming with
undead. After battling the undead and finding themselves in combat, they
return to the Island a man or woman. The only problem was the journey there
was usually more dangerous than the ceremonial task. Passing through the
severe storms on the Aryth made a storm giant the only option for protection.
Thus, making Gharanja quite an important combatant in this war of undeath.
She took a tremendous amount of pride in this designation. Fully committing
to naval navigation, astrology, studying of the tides, life saving
techniques, studying of all possible creatures... she left no stone unturned.
In her youth and innocence, she just never saw betrayal coming...
The Betrayal
Added Tue Apr 20 15:50:55 2021 at level 11:
In hindsight, his menacing face is sneering with knowing eyes of evil intent.
In the moment, his kind smile burned with a zeal for slaying the undead. Oh,
Ssrai the saurian, his zeal to embark on his spirit journey should have been
seen through. Gharanja had taken a half dozen Du'Akkin through the storms to
the island without incident, and perhaps pride in how well she'd been doing
mixed with blind trust led her to the fate of this day.
Not knowing it would be the last time she said goodbye to her family,
Gharanja gathered her supplies, prayed fervently, and disembarked with Ssrai
to sea. The trip was three days there, and three days back. On the second
day, the dark rolling storm clouds could be seen in the distance. The storm
was coming. Gharanja gave Ssrai direction of exactly how to manage the storm,
a pity she gave exact directions on how to ruin it at the same time.
The intense lightning strikes, the waves crashing, the boat almost capsizing,
Gharanja masterfully navigating it all, it was a blur. Behind her the entire
time crippled with fear sat Ssrai, plotting as he clutched a razor thin knife
covered in poison. She yelled direction to the saurian without response, until
behind her she thought she heard, "I will serve you to death, Lord. I now
deliver her corpse to your watery embrace." Cocking her head with
bewilderment, she tried to process it in addition to navigating.
A burning pain erupted from her right flank. And, in the split second that it
clicked, she turned around to question the saurian only to find him trembling
with the dagger in his gut. "H-h-he has His eye on you. You must be stopped.
Y-y-ou are stopped. Y-y-ou are... now... Weh." he rasped as lifelessness
overcame him.
So many questions! Who was "He"?! How was a tribe member corrupted!?
Remembering the pain in her side, she ran her fingers over the open wound as
she began to grow faint. Losing her control of the boat in the stormy waters,
consciousness faded, voiding to black, as her carcass fell into the waters...
Saviors and a Walk
Added Tue Apr 20 15:53:08 2021 at level 11:
Consciousness slowly crept back into the ice cold flesh of the storm giant.
Warmth surrounded her as she stared into a daytime sky through what appeared
to be a hole in the ceiling. Very gently, a champion crouched near her,
laying hands in prayer as life and light started surging through her once
more.
Slowly coming to, Gharanja realized she was in the middle of a volcano
surrounded with her kin. They carefully tended her wounds and revealed she
had washed up on Mount Kiadana-Rah three days beforehand. The realization of
what happened began to sink in, she had never even heard of this Mount, how
was she even going to possibly get home? She was far too weak to make an
attempt right now. But, she was a Du'Akkin, a survivor. There was breath in
her lungs, therefore there was power in her prayers and strength in her
muscle.
After regathering her strength and thanking the storm giants for their
hospitality, she could not help but feel like she must go searching on her
own. These giants were not her people, they didn't love the earth or have
incessant passion for tending it. Just a group of soldiers with their feet
dug in defending their home, Gharanja couldn't help but respect their fervor
and pride. But, no, this was not her people.
After her farewells, she descended the mountain and began exploring to the
northeast. Making clothes, hunting, and surviving. The most prominent hunters
will always catch each others eye, and it wasn't long before a voice
whispered from the Trees.
"Do you know Thar-Eris too, Giant?"
Gharanja Blightbane
Added Tue Apr 20 16:33:40 2021 at level 12:
*Gharanja earned the title of Blightbane from the Du'Akkin after her third
escort as Boat Guider. A story she hesitates to share from the pride that
swells within her.
*She has struggled with pride deeply since being named Boat Guider. She is
very away of the potential for sin, so she shies away from drawing attention
to any good deeds she has done preferring to be anonymous or unknown.
*She is infatuated with living off the earth. She has always supplied
clothing, food, and basic needs for herself from the land she graces.
*Her betrayal weighs heavy on her daily. She's gone to the Aryth praying that
her homes direction comes back to her, but it hasn't. Someone purposely
attacked her tribe, and her personally, and she has no clue how to
investigate it.
*She believes her fate is written in the stars, just like the path of a
Captain at sea. At least that's what her elders always taught her. Anything
to do with astrology piques her interest.
*She has aligned herself under the sphere of Storms in Thera for so many
reasons. Most prominently, if she got here in a storm, it has dominion over
her life and she will respect it's power.
*Her passion to eradicate and slay the undead burns with as much zeal now
than it did back home, if not more for the pure principle of feeling close to
her people and roots.
*Her heart and intentions are as pure as gold, but her savagery comes across
brutal sometimes. Fighting with anything the earth supplies to win a battle
can make anything look brutish though.
*The torment of her memories has left her with extreme racism toward Saurian
even though she has a hard time admitting such. She knows it is wrong of her.
Ssrai's face begins to sneer at her from any saurian she even tries to look
at though.
*Boat Guiders were blessed by the spirit of Du'Akkin empowering her prayers.
Since the incident, it's almost as if she's been worldbound. Distance from
home? Ssrai's poison? She can't explain it, but she knows her prayers are
true and that they will be answered again one day.
*She learned about Thar-Eris from a ranger in the Prosimy woods on her
fateful walk off of Kiadana, and it very much sounded like the spirit of the
Du'Akkin. She's decided to run toward them, feeling comfort in their ways.
And a name sits on the winds around that Tree, she must find the owner of it.
Ergush.
New Family and Answered Prayers
Added Fri May 7 10:39:25 2021 at level 40:
Gharanja stands up after running her large hand around the clearing at the
Primeval Spirit. Closing her eyes, she prays to the Ancients and feels the
connection to them snap into place. Opening her eyes, she watches the earth
swallow the six corpses that were once Dithirin's army as new life springs
from the earth. Ignoring her wounds she snarls as she chases his battered
body out of the Prosimy forest as she bellows out the chant of "Blightbane"
into the night sky.
Returning to the Tree, she couldn't help but feel a minor victory as she
defended her home alone with success. The epiphany struck her in that moment
though, when she realized without thought that it was her "Home". It has been
decades since she left the Du'Akkin tribe, and even though they are dear to
her heart, she had genuinely found a new family now.
Curing her scourge and poison, the presence of Ergush fills her with pride.
Reflecting back on her time with Du'Akkin, her prayers were never this
powerful. She was growing in power, purely out of faithfulness, and nothing
of her own. Ergush stepping in as a conduit to teach her how to be a hunter
is walking her down a path she never saw coming, a ceiling she never thought
possible. What is at the end of it? Will he leave her amidst her failures?
Will he honor her persistence?
Gripping her cold iron blade she prays under her breath, "Ranja will never
stop seeking your favor Lord. No matter how bad life get, no matter what
happens, you have Ranja vow that you will see her die from old age in this
Tree. Please keep grooming Ranja to unlock her potential. Be hard on Ranja,
can take it. Will make you proud."
Catching scent of the undead again, her knuckles turn white as she lifts her
sword and runs back into the Prosimy for a fight.
