Description

Before you is a brutish dwarf. He is quite stocky and holds himself with confidence. A broad jawline holds his black beard that cascades down to a point tied with thinly spun mithril. The armor he wears is thick iron and beneath it is a layer of protective leather. Upon his forehead you spy a line of blue paint. Sweat from his forehead beads above his brow.

At a young age, Ghrondel was abducted from his home. He was a helpless victim
to a pedophiliac old mage. This mage had a fetish for young men and a greater
fetish for putting them in great pain. The snatching happened very quickly as
Ghrondel was placed into a deep sleep and carried off in a burlap sack all
while invisible to the untrained eye.  You could have said the wind took him
and any witness would have agreed.

The twisted mage brought him to a dark cave in which he performed dark and
twisted rituals upon unsuspecting young boys. While Ghrondel was asleep he
placed him into a fastened jacket of multi-layered canvas synched in the back
and bolted with iron rings to a chain and pulley.  When he finally awoke,
Ghrondel struggled in the darkness in a vain attempt to free himself.
However, the struggle away from the wall brought tension to the chains which
were weighted at the end. This in turn would pull dangerously tight to the
jacket and excruciating pain would radiate through his shoulders to his arms
as the jacket threatened to crush him. With every cry of pain he would hear a
maniacal giggling and rustle of fabric. It was pitch black in the cave and
when he closed his eyes all he could see were stars as the pain grew.  Soon,
the pain would grow to be overwhelming and he would pass into unconsciousness
again.

Waking in an unfamiliar land

Falling into the darkness of unconsciousness felt like falling down a long
pitch black shaft. He felt like objects were passing him and the feeling of
wind whispered through his ears as his head turned from side to side. 
Falling further and further he began to feel as if he was spinning but then
it all came to an stop. He felt something massive on his chest as he was
seated into a throne of skulls. 

"There, there my son. I have you."

The All Knowing Eye

With a pounding headache he reached for his eyes as his head lifted up. It
was a very bright light of golden hue shining directly at him that obscured
his vision to the sides.  He tried to look away from it but the light was too
magnificent to not at least try and find its source. While squinting, he
realized the light did not sting his eyes any longer and he could see much
clearer. Before him was a radiant being. He could see it had a head much like
a man but it was covered in beautifully detailed scars with intricate
patterns. Through the eyes and mouth he could see only fire, and through its
forehead shown a curved slit of blue.

"Where-where, who are you?" said Ghrondel.

"I am the all knowing eye of Thar," echoed a deep voice.

"I thought I had lost you, but when you felt great pain, I felt it too," said
the voice.

"How did you find me?" said Ghrondel.

"It was not easy. A great force almost stopped me from carrying you here on
the winds of Thar, and I am not sure what it is," grumbled the voice.

"Thar, w-where am I?" said Ghrondel.

"Why, you are home, my son. Well, almost. You body is trapped in a plane far
away from here, but I was able to bring your spirit here," said the voice
reassuringly. 

"My spirit! What do you mean my spirit?" exclaimed Ghrondel with a hesitant
curiousity.

"This force that stopped me from bringing you here completely was too great
so I separated your spirit from your body to ease your pain for a short
while," said the voice. "However, I can feel where this power is coming
from."

"You are being held captive by one possessing some of this power. It is a
being filled with the spirit of a demon. You must destroy these demons
trapping your body so that you may return and assume your rightful throne. In
time you will find a power of your own to free yourself, I know it. None
possess the courage or cunning of a Thar," said the voice assuredly. 

Ghrondel looked down to his throne and pondered to himself. "These demons,
how will I know what they look like?" said Ghrondel.

"They will hold an aura. In the world where your body lay it is called
Magick," said the voice.

"Go now my son, and return when you have defeated them all!" With the final
word the curved blue slit on the forehead of the being opened to reveal a
piercing blue eye.

Thar it is.

As the eye blinked he awoke and gasped for breath. The cave was full of light
as an aura glowed in the corner.  A half naked magi began to look confused as
Ghrondel turned and looked directly at him.

"Ble-How can you see me?" exclaimed the mage.

"DEMON!" shouted Ghrondel as he charged at the mage. As he rushed forward in
a rage, the jacket began to rip in the back where the chain fastening was. As
the tension began to increase it finally snapped and shot back to the pulley,
bouncing off the wall and striking the mage in the throat. With a crushed
wind pipe the mage began to gurgle as blood spilled from his mouth. Releasing
himself from the jacket, Ghrondel freed himself and began his journey into
the world.

Ghrondel Demonbane

The new ideals Ghrondel holds dear to him fuse with those before his
awakening. He still wishes to live a regular and tranquil life, but will
fight to live it in Thar. To get to that day he will value sobriety and
abstinence from all excess so as to keep a clear mind. To escape any chance
of being possessed by a demon he will keep a vegetable diet and take a vow of
celibacy. He believes if he consumes or lays with a hidden demon he would
become possessed too. If he becomes ill or diseased he will take to the
teachings of olden day and bleed himself for a short time. He has always been
optimistic, cheerful, and unafraid; the elders of his village call it the
sanguine temperament. This in turn causes him to get "hot gut" or hot bile,
which generates amorous desires, verbal fluency, and suicidal impulses.He
will slay any and all magi possessed by the demons that create the veil
separating him from his throne of Thar.
