Description

A slight adolescent, Gie stands a hand shorter than six feet tall. His limbs appear almost mismatched, all knees and elbows, clearly still growing out to his full size. Similarly, his hands and feet seem disproportionate to his slender frame. His fingers, while large, seem deft even as they are capped by ragged and torn fingernails. His expression seems pained, the skin drawn too close across his skull, and the tightness at the corners of his eyes and mouth all too apparent on such a young face. His eyes, however, remain bright and shine gold with his extraplanar essence. No hair is visible from his head as it has been shaven close to his scalp, though what stubble remains gleams of a similar gold. The same glow appears - one more time - lower, along the edges of a nasty, still-fresh wound, running from beneath his left ear, down his neck and across his throat before disappearing beneath the armor covering his right shoulder. Fresh droplets of blood ooze from his skin and make their way down his throat before similarly disappearing behind armor and cloth.

Role

How Gie Came to Voralian City

Added Thu Aug 25 17:35:07 2016 at level 3:
Lord and Ladies of the Holy Triumvirate,
Three days ago I was asked to lead a detachment of Peacekeepers to the Plains
west and north of the city, near the pass to the darkness befallen tragedy
that is Udgaard Lokes. Travelers spoke of a deafening explosion, the likes
of which none could recall. We located the site easily enough, dark pillars
of smoke, curiously magenta and the purest white, still billowed up to the
sky from a perfectly square pit in the ground 16 feet on each side. We found
two survivors, Taroli ri Recien (adult) and his son, Gie ri Recien (10 years
of age, as he tell it), though the elder was soon to be bound for the Azure
Fields. Before he succumbed to his wounds - terrible, deep, rents in his body
oozed such maladies it killed the grass it fell upon - Taroli told us his
tale.
.
Taroli and his son were traveling merchants, or so everyone believed. While
they plied the simple trade of scribes and booksellers, they secretly held a
- depending on who describes it - a most magnificent or terrible repository
of knowledge: the Library of the Three. I know you scoff, but the he is
adamant it is what they carried within their extra-planar tower - 16 feet
square, 32 feet tall, and half-buried into the group - the explanation for
the cube of missing earth in the plains.
.
After years of quiet travel, they were set upon by an unknown assailant,
though his magical and blade work suggested training as an anti-paladin. He
managed to surprise them within the tower and took the boy, Gie, hostage, a
venomous and unholy dagger held to his neck. Taroli did not share with me how
they escaped, only that they did. In the process Gie suffered a grievous cut
across his neck, nearly killing him outright, and Taroli suffered multiple
stab wounds. They leapt from the Tower. Taroli spoke what he called the Loss
- a phrase of command which tore the tower, and the Library, from our plane
and sent it elsewhere, their attacker still trapped within. Taroli swears the
items are warded beyond use, but I remain uncertain. Where the Library is
now, he did not, or would not, say before his passing.
.
That would be the end of the story for Taroli and his son, save for one final
incident worth including here. The brief rending of the planar borders
allowed a spirit from the Azure Fields to fall into ours. Perhaps
recognizing some unspoken of selflessness on the boys part, perhaps the
origin of his injury, it joined with him. With the spirit of an archon within
him now, he survived his wounds long enough for us to reach and heal him best
we can, though I now fear his wound will never fully close, and will bother
him to the end of his days.
.
I will vouch for the boy, and suggest he enter training with our knights.
.
Honor be,
Jeorynal, Scout of Voralia City

The Library of the Three

Added Thu Aug 25 17:36:42 2016 at level 3:
Considered a shadowy rumor by most learned magi, if they have heard of it at
all, the Library of the Three was said to be the work of three thieves -
brothers, most say - who became obsessed with the rarest and most valuable
treasure of Thera: knowledge. They stole and hoarded the greatest works and
treatises of the Age and those Ages before. The full contents of their
collection are rumored but unknown: the tales of children claim the private
diary of Istendil, wands empowered by Twist himself, and the texts the Golden
Grimoire was copied from. Older magi speculate it holds the confession of the
first archon to join forces with Hell written upon its own flayed skin, the
very tablets of fate which tell of the end of all things, and a pair of
indistinguishable scrolls - one to weaken the Veil to almost nothing, the
other to make it impenetrable. Certainly just idle chatter.

Summary

Added Thu Aug 25 17:38:13 2016 at level 3:
Gie ri Recien shares his fathers mission and belief in the sanctity of
knowledge. Through the lens of the his training and mission as a paladin, he
seeks to protect and aid good and neutral aligned magic users, and will
generally try to only level with at least one magic user in the group.
Deeper into the subject of magic, while he disagrees with much of what the
Nexus believes regarding balance, he admires their embrace of magic. Gie
carries a special antipathy of anti-paladins and necromancers above all other
evil mages. He also has a habit of quoting from his favorite philosophers.
.
Dark secrets? If any, he had dreamed of taking up magical training prior to
his wounding and investiture as an azuretouched. He may enjoy consuming
magical potions and having spells cast upon him a little too much.
.
Dreams? To locate the Library see it protected.
