Role
An infinity of Gilversplitz
Added Fri Dec 8 14:36:30 2017 at level 15:
There are of course, an infinite number of each of us, each dwelling in a
different splinter of possibility. When I wish to eat a delightful jam
pastry, there exists the universe in which I am to eat the pastry, and one in
which I am not.
Some seem to think that the moment of choice obliterates each alter-self,
worlds collapsing into nothing as the quantum becomes quantified.
I disagree.
I posit that each divergence is the birth of new worlds, and the death of
none of them. The infinite remains unshackled, as we all spin fractally off
into the horizon.
This makes it rather difficult to claim the objective truth of a thing, since
with an infinite amount of nested infinities, all possibilities are emergent.
Ergo, we can never truly know anything.
Our ignorance is endless.
And I'll happily admit it.
Some people refuse to follow this line of thought. They ascribe law and order
to things, as if their decree and cold calculus makes reality conform to
their beliefs.
I don't know if they're right or not, but regardless, I'd rather live in a
multiverse unshaped.
We will be a thorn in the collective backside of people like that.
Some us at least, hopefully many of us.
Many of me.

The G-Manifesto (G is for Gilversplitz)
Added Sun Dec 10 23:19:24 2017 at level 21:
I wish to expand my consciousness to breach the possibility barrier between
my alter fractal selves.
I have hoped to train my mindstream in preparation for this procedure by
inducing meatspace alterations via shapeshifting. By assuming the form of
entities unlike myself, I am able to experience existence as an entity unlike
myself, receptive to new sensations and situations otherwise alien to me.
I want to see things, FEEL things that are beyond my current state of being.
One life can hold incredible experiences, but I wish to truly embrace the
infinite, and be a part of the Multiversal Gilversplitz that is far greater
than I can be as an indivdual.
It is unlikely that a G-singularity could retain cohesion in the wake of
Absolute Conflux, but I am disinterested in the petty notion of
'comprehension'. As stated in my previous works, I have little stomach for
'objective truth'. Each multiverse has it's own truths, and even on the
micro-multiversal scale, the mightiest of divination magicks have yet to
determine the exact position and velocity of a particle.
My life may only be an eyeblink in the face of eternity, but if I can poke
even the tiniest holes in the multiversal veil, I might be able to experience
all the mirth and tears that dwell in the G-Beyond. I won't come emptyhanded
to the party, however. I want to jam as much living into my own life as I
can, so that the Other-G can partake of my passions.
The Barons of Chaos have the greatest philosophers and scholars in the world,
capable of deep and meaningful conversation about the multiverse. I have
pledged myself to their cause, for I think I can reach new levels of
enlightenment among their ranks.
Maybe I will get in, maybe not. Regardless, it should make an excellent story
for Lord Whiysdan, who sounds like a wonderful fellow who lives life to the
fullest. I'll seek patronage with him too, because even if this whole
Infinite Worlds thing crashes and burns, he can help me drown my sorrows.

Paradigm Shift
Added Wed Dec 13 15:13:44 2017 at level 26:
How could I be so foolish?
The aimless fancy which passed for rebellion with my parents will not serve
me outside Hillcrest.
I am not an invalid, nor should at pretend at being one any longer. This
affectation has served its ponderous usefulness. It is time to get serious
and quit faffing about.
My goal is within my grasp. The Barons have what I seek.
To attain it, I must remodel my way of thinking. My habits have been molded
by a life of pretending at rebellion, while still acting in accordance with
structured systemic mores as some sort of 'foil' archetype. I was little more
than a straw man.
I must think critically about even the tiniest of my actions. What
antecedents dictate them? Am I doing things in accordance with the designs of
another? Is the way in which I accomplish my goals typical and exploitable?
I find this practice tremendously difficult. I have lived in blissful agnosis
for nearly 80 years, wallowing in ignorance like a pig in mud made all the
prouder for it. I need take care not to slip into analysis paralysis.
I must adapt, or risk losing everything.
I must learn to ride the waves of chaos, wielding it as an instrument, rather
than let myself be ruled by whim and whimsy.
Chaos is the tool, and the by-product. Not the end goal.
Progress is slow, but I think I am beginning to learn...
What a fool I've been!
On Veils and Truth
Added Wed Dec 27 10:31:34 2017 at level 36:
Lingering among the shifting archives of the Chaos Magi, I hit upon an idea.
Might the Veil be permanently torn?
The Prismatic Veil functions to inhibit influx of mana into our world. It
keeps our world magically balanced, preventing surges of wild magic from
emerging. It can also be thickened to restrict magical flow, choking off the
lifeblood of our world, and rendering it piteously mundane.
When the veil is thinnest, wild magic events rage across Thera - a boon to
magi who can draw massive reserves of power from them. As Barons of Chaos,
however, I suspect our connection to these events is far deeper. We may be
able to twist the warp and weft of our world in ways unfathomable by the
rigid-minded.
I feel that it is in this unstable environment that the secrets of tapping
into my fractal selves may become apparent.
I have already begun gathering accomplices to my side - thieves I have
befriended, and greedy magi who lust for power - who will furnish me with
artifacts of note to fuel my tampering.
To each of them I tell a slightly different story, but the core narrative of
'a study into the inner workings of the Veil' remains consistent. I tell each
of them the truth, but the truth is so... subjective. Each of them project
their desires onto my work, and take from it what they wish. As of yet,
nobody has bothered to ask what /I/ want out of this endeavor.
I suppose they will find out in due time, should I be successful.
Early Life
Added Sat Mar 17 23:12:15 2018 at level 51:
Gilversplitz was born in Hillcrest to the Greenvales, a family of
traditonally sensible magi.
Gimmerspling, his overbearing father, wished for Gilversplitz to follow in
his footsteps as an invoker as the young gnome exhibited talent in
theoretical thermatology.
Gilversplitz rebelled against his father, preferring to catch small animals
using ingenious snares, and dissect them to gain insight into their form.
Those animals he didn't kill, he tried to keep as pets, which Gimmerspling
would inevitably discover and subsequently blow to smithereens.
In an attempt to get him practicing 'respectable gnomish magic', his mother
Drennapon taught Gilversplitz the rudiments of transmutation, which he
promptly bastardized into the shapeshifting arts.
It soon became clear to Gilversplitz that there was no place for him in
Hillcrest. His parents would simply not abide with having a literal animal
living under their roof, and his prim neighbours found his studies into
animal physiognomy revolting.
Turning his back on the community which had forsaken him, Gilversplitz cast
off his family name to seek out his fortune in the unpredictable tumult of
the outside world.
Free from the stifling structure of gnomish society, Gilversplitz's passion
for theoretical magic blossomed. He quickly became enamored with 'The Many
Worlds' theory, and sought to make contact with the other copies of himself
that exist in alternate realities.
Finding some meagre success as a writer on the topic of theoretical physics,
he sent copies on his work to Hillcrest hoping to find recognition among his
family and peers. His submissions were met with mockery, and used as compost
by the conventionally-minded gnomes.
It was evident that Gilversplitz needed to find or foster a community of
open-minded individuals with whom he could have intelligent discourse, as the
vast majority of society wouldn't cut it.
Thus began his search for the Barons of Chaos.
Breaching Barriers
Added Mon Mar 19 19:43:51 2018 at level 51:
Breaching Barriers
Through the use of an Improbability Tunnel, I am able to establish a tenuous
intuitive link to my local fractal selves. Using the insights and notions of
these parallel lives, I am able to subtly alter my actions to produce more
desireable outcomes, just as my fractals might be able to engage in the same
process for me. We are like a hive mind, slurred across a billion billion
realities, communicating in the language of hunches and gut feelings.
This manifests itself to the casual observer as 'luck'.
Presently, I can only access those fractals which exist in a conceptually
'near' space. If I can discover a means of expanding either the range of
effect or the detail of knowledge, I will be one step closer to one step
closer to making contact with the G-Beyond.
But... Ponder the Flea, and the Acrobat.
Both can cross the tightrope, but the Acrobat, bound as he is by the physical
laws of gravity can only traverse the line in one dimensions (by moving
forwards or backwards).
The Flea is much smaller and lighter than the Acrobat, and thus is not bound
by gravity as heavily. The Flea can cross the line forwards and backwards as
the Acrobat does, but the Flea can also cross the circumference of the line.
The Flea has access to this second dimension, which the Acrobat, for all his
complexity, cleverness, and power, cannot utilize.
Thus, another option presents itself.
Larger, heavier things require stronger bridges to cross. If I find myself
unable to create a wider tunnel, then perhaps I need to make myself smaller
in order to make use of the cracks that already exist?
This form of thaumaturgical compression can be theoretically achieved by a
Transmuter, though current dweomers only permit for encoding oneself into a
two-dimensional entity (Via a duo-dimension). One-dimensional compression is
by its nature exponentially more difficult to engage in a controlled fashion,
requiring tremendous amounts of power to stabilize the pattern, and unpack it
correctly at a later time.
I would, in essence, be transforming myself into a spell, which I could cast
through an improbability tunnel and into a new reality. This is not the ideal
endpoint to my research, but provides a stimulating mental exercise
regardless. Should this reality become intolerable for whatever reason, I
might be able to find refuge in a another fractal and continue my work
unmolested.
Knowledge and Loss
Added Fri Jun 1 11:42:04 2018 at level 51:
Rahsael teaches that knowledge is the enemy of loss, but my experiences have
led me to disagree.
Knowledge is a loss of innocence. By learning things, I have come to
understand just how narrow my understanding of the world truly is, and the
bliss of my ignorance dispelled.
I feel terribly out of my depth, with each new insight posing a host of new
questions, and overturning my prior understanding of reality.
In this fashion, I am Lost.
In order to experience loss on an emotional level one must have an
understanding of what was once lost, so I wonder if Knowledge enables Loss,
rather than prevent it.
As a thought experiment, I was once asked if an omniscient being could ever
experience true loss.
I believe that it would depend on the nature of the being in question.
An entity who empathizes with others, and forms close emotional attachments
might be capable of a more profound and deep loss than any other being
imaginable, for they would keenly know the weight and measure of every death,
parting, and absence.
It goes a little deeper than that, though.
Since knowledge is subjective, and based off of experiences, such a truly
omniscient entity would not merely know what transpired as might a books
reader, but would instead feel each and every loss that occurred on even the
most minute of scales.
In this regard, absolute knowledge equals absolute loss.
The Rogue Fractal
Added Tue Aug 7 13:14:42 2018 at level 51:
The Gilversplitzes are ceasing to Gilversplit. My Fractals decay - they are
going Gilversplat.
This is most disconcerting.
The culprit: a rogue fractal with a bent towards supremacy and dominion. If
Gilversplitz 36.890.3838.3737.3737 on the 83rd axis is to be believed,
Roguesplitz has consumed six other 'Splitzes, adding their own power to his
own. I am filled with admiration and disgust alike, for while this Rogue has
achieved great progress in my work, he has bent it to purpose of slavery.
Rather than revel in the glory of our manifold self, he devours our potential
and sets it upon a singular path.
It is puzzling, however, that he retains a discrete consciousness separate
from those he has assimilated into his being. The combined qualia of the six
vanquished Gilversplitzes should overwhelm the rogue fractal.
Maintaining a cohesive composite entity with a singular intelligence is a
delicate dance. A vast network of dweomers and mystical redoubts must be
constantly attended to, compartmentalizing and ordering the flood of being
within each fractal, lest the whole volatile system wrench itself angrily
apart. As more fractals are subsumed into his being, exponentially more
resources must be devoted to maintain the integrity of the amalgam.
This, I think, is his weakness. While he is indeed mighty, he has built his
power upon a house of cards that a seasoned Anarch might recognize at a
casual glance. Using the raw power and peculiarity of Chaos, I will strike a
telling blow to the lynchpin that holds his system together, disassembling
and Dividing it many-a-time over.
The Entropic Mirror-magics remain untuned to this reality, scattering my
falses and fakeries across the multiverse. This shall serve me well in
confounding my hunter, and causing him to waste time and resources -
particularly when combined with the Pall of Isolation I have gleaned from the
enigmatic Mysteries of the Mourning Star.
While the Rogue remains misdirected, I will set about weaving my implement of
chaos.
There exists a chaos rift within the Valley of Veran - a byproduct of some
ancient wizarding war. Even being near it has the effect of rapidly eroding
the fabric of the mightiest containment spells, and direct immersion has
powerful mutagenic properties. Preliminary tests with the rift have destroyed
every storage vessel I have lowered into it, which is at once worrisome and
promising. If I can harness even a fragment of that power to amplify my
dispersal magics, I might be able to unmake the amalgam that pursues me.
To this end, I will seek aid from the surly Archmagus Festpath. He likely
possesses the knowledge required to fashion an Orb of Chaos drawn directly
from the heart of the rift, which could serve as the catalyst needed to
messily disassemble my ravenous doppleganger.
Besides, he owes me a favour.
Five Stages of Grief
Added Mon Aug 27 13:04:43 2018 at level 51:
Over the last two weeks, Gilversplitz has cycled through the five stages of
grief as he wrestles with his impending obliteration at the hand of his
doppleganger. In doing so, he has come to learn a few important things about
himself.
Knowing everyone dies is one thing, but feeling doom's breath hot on your
heels is something else entirely different. One can only wheedle and trick
one's way through life for so long - eventually, we'll all become unmade,
often in unsatisfying or unexpected ways.
Denial - When first faced with this threat, Gilversplitz thinned the veil to
hasten along a meeting with his doppleganger. He believed that this was yet
another trial to trick his way through, and did not truly believe that the
Doppleganger represented an existential threat to his being.
Anger - Gilversplitz rejected the Rogue Fractal, hating it as some sort of
slaver who inflicted a grand injustice upon his multitudes. Deep down, he
realizes that the two of them have much more in common than he'd like to
admit, and styling himself as the morally superior version is a vain comfort.
Both of these 'Splitzes hold the same dread longing, and both would resort to
drastic measures in an attempt to satisfy it.
Bargaining - Gilversplitz has hatched a variety of elaborate and far-fetched
plans to deal with his Doppleganger. From scattering illusory copies across
the multiverse, to imploding it with a dimensional feedback loop, to
dispersing his fractals back across the fabric of reality, he thought of it
all. His delusions that they might work eventually wore thin, and he passed
into the next stage...
Depression - Our noble hero drank himself into a stupor and mulled his
problems over with whomever might listen. In doing so, he learned quite a bit
about himself.
Acceptance - Gilversplitz has come to realize that the Rogue Fractal is
essentially himself, plus or minus an idea or two. When the final
confrontation occurs, he intends to commiserate with his once-foe, and
embrace it as an old friend at the Cathedral of Loss.
Gilversplitz is dead. Long life Gilversplitz
Added Sun Oct 21 23:29:45 2018 at level 51:
Now melded with his infinite fractal selves, Gilversplitz finds himself
strangely empty.
He believed that realizing his life's work might bring satisfaction, but
the pit of emptiness within his heart has only grown more profound. If
the collective joys and sorrows of his manifold self could not fill him
up, what might? He has thought and felt and heard and smelt and tasted and
hated and yet NONE OF IT IS ENOUGH.
With growing dread, he believes he is cursed to never quench his damnable
yearning and find some sort of lasting happiness.
To make matters worse, he constantly revisits his inherited memories of
murdering his own fractal-selves. With no more Gilversplitzes left to
consume, he has turned his appetites upon himself in a powerfully
self-destructive way.
Curiously, in spite of how quickly his life has gone to pieces he outwardly
appears to be more sociable and sentimental. This is because Gilversplitz
finds solace in novelty, and of the (thousands? trillions?) of Gilversplitzes
whose memories he has been subject to, the overwhelming majority of them were
utterly consumed by their respective obsessions to the exclusion of all other
things.
Gilversplitz is a known quantity, but other people?
They are interesting!
