Description

Standing nervously here is an arial of below average height. His eyes are a dull gray, peering out from under his bushy white eyebrows with a mix of anger and anguish. He has an average size beak, and his square set jaw and block-like chin give him an aura of determination, while his brownish red feathers fall from behind his head in a fair imitation of hair.Though clad in a stained gray robe, you hear the distinct sound of armor clanking beneath. Never far from his fists are two jagged, cruel looking knives, though his hands themselves look heavily callused, as if from much use. While small in stature, and not possessing of a bulging physique, his agility is plainly apparent, and it is obvious he is no stranger to a fight.

Role

The 'Whys' of Glaurthran

Added Mon Sep 13 15:36:18 2004 at level 13:
Glaurthran was a scholar until he was attacked by a band of highwaymen. He
had some skill with his dirk, but the leader of the highwaymen cast upon him
a spell of forgetfulness. Quickly was he overcome, beaten and left for dead.
he awoke, he realized some degree of the spell was still in him, for he
could not remember how to read or write. This realization drove him half
mad, for reading and expanding his mind was his one true passion. Thus was
the spark of anger kindled within him.

Glaurthran, though now very mentally unstable, was no fool. He knew he would
have to make his living physically. Though he was a small man, he sought the
guild of warriors, using his size and quickness to his advantage, learning to
primarily use knives and his fists. As he could not read, many of his
guildmates thought him a simpleton, enraging the scholar locked within him.
But he did never act upon them, his fiery yet temporary rage settling into a
cool, unyielding ball of anger.

Throughout his training, Glaurthran drew upon that anger for his strength.
He learned the warrior ways and trained with zeal, yet always he fed his
anger. While he added the everyday influences, he never forgot what brought
him to where he was. That mage, how he hated him! He blamed all his
problems on the man, his anger spawning until it encompassed all those who
practiced magic.

Day to day, Glaurthran comes across as unstable. He often speaks shortly to
others, though he will put foreword his best to those he either fears, wants
to impress, or respects. To those he believes his equal of inferiors,
though, his angry and unstable nature comes across strongly. He has decided
to further use and fuel his anger by fighting magic used by mortals, for
there is nothing he hates more. While he is callous on the exterior, deep
inside he is lonely, and seeks a higher purpose.

An Update on Glaurthran

Added Sun Oct 17 22:34:34 2004 at level 45:
In the years Glaurthran has been a part of the Village, some things have
changed, some have remained the same. Some of the loneliness in his heart
has departed, and with it some of his outward instability. He speaks more
normally now, and though he is still quiet, some of his mannerisms reflect
the seed of contentment that has been planted next to the fire of his anger.

With this shred of contentment has come a hunger for more. It has led to a
new source of fuel for his anger, that at himself. He has not been as
successful as he has wanted. HE means to seek the Father of Anger, but has
not and is angry with himself for it. He is angry because he cannot always
restrain himself, and because of it often falls for the tricks of his foes.
This happens especially when they think nothing of his honor and overwhelm
him with numbers. He associates this with the Empire, and has come to hate
them above his other foes. He cannot fathom what he sees as the depths of
their greed, cowardice and decite. He also blames himself for Jerroa falling
on his own blade and taking his life.

Thus has his anger grown. But he has hope, ambition and some arrogance. He
wants to see the village teeming with barbarians again. He wants a place in
leading this future, seeing himself, Arrazn and Gered as the heart and future
of the village. He fancies being called Razorfist, as he uses his fists and
knifes and truly believes his foes fear him and know the only way they can
win is through deceit, numbers and the accursed magics.

Developments

Added Wed Nov 24 15:50:15 2004 at level 51:
Much has changed for Glaurthran. He had been very sure of himself, arrogant
to a degree when it came to the Village. He believed since he had been among
the huts the longest, aside from Iborenn and Acaga, that he had a good
understanding of its principles and traditions. How humbled he was when he
he found himself cast out for doing what he thought was right.

But rather than break him, it birthed new drive. Yes, he bled a great deal
when his foes learned of his misfortune, but it also gave him strength. His
anger, which was stagnating under the Imperial treaty, was fueled anew.He
was internally pleased to see the treaty fall. But rather than simply use it
as an excuse to focus his war on the Imperials, his hatred for their magi
puppet masters burned ever stronger.

While working to rebuild his hut, he decided to change his outlook. His
anger did not falter, but it reshaped. His own failure made him seek further
penance, and he decided, if given the chance, to serve as a defender of the
Village. He has also taken steps to rty and relearn to read. While he does
not know if it will work, he will try.

His ways have changed, too. While he does not reject his own anger, to the
contrary he still nourishes it, he does see it as one, if an important, facet
of his life. He seeks to learn of its nature and place further, but will
never stop fighting until his last breath.
