Description

Intensity glares out from this man's flashing viridian eyes: their unblinking fervor could be described as unsettling, while those orbs of darkest emerald alertly scan the surroundings at hand. His lean face is framed by a riotous mane of wavy, dark-blond hair that falls to gentle, golden curls well below his shoulders, the high cheekbones and pointed ears poke through at times, though, to catch a flash of sunlight. A lush golden-red beard dwarfs his mouth and chin: more bushy than flowing, it puffs downward to his collarbone. What may be glimpsed beneath the movement of armor or shifting of robes are tight, ropy muscles stretched over a tense, wiry frame of over six feet when standing tall. His movements are swift and decisive, full of a single-minded force: he does not merely stand or walk or run... his face, his manner is full of energy and movement. He stands like a fully-drawn bow. He lopes like a wolf, using his hands to swing around trees, to grip rocks, to propel himself ever forward, those flashing green eyes never looking back.

Role

Slaver. Defiance.

Added Wed May 7 18:16:48 2008 at level 51:
The free man had returned to the jungle ruins many times. He prayed
fervently. Faithfully. He was patient. He was confident that the Ghost, the
Pure One, was testing his faith. He would not falter. He would be found
faithful.

The Sign was unexpected. Instead of the Jaguar-Woman's voice of clear light,
a voice of grinding metal and bootsteps assaulted his ears. The immortal
duergar, the Great Enslaver Enlilth's words threatened to destroy him. Was he
not pure? Was he not free? Glordath did not waver, remaining faithful to
Baerinika and defying the destroyer, the capturer through threats, through a
plague of torture, through an attack upon the dark wood surrounding the Tree
of Ages.

He stood upon the ramp of thorns, his Sister Seyriannia near, kneeled next to
a friendly wolf-spirit. The first rays of morning danced through the leaves
to warm the horizon with their fiery glow of life. He wiped the blood from
his axe. He tied back his hair, and wiped the blood from his face. The huge
form of the kingly duergar (naught but a powerful slave) lay broken and
bleeding upon the thorns, the huntress' arrows, wolf-bites, and the burns of
an immortal god's divine wrath all burned upon his dark skin.
plague of torture, through an attack upon the dark wood surrounding the Tree
of Ages.

He did not shy. He defended his home, his sister, his faith.

Growth. Guidance.

Added Tue Apr 29 20:16:20 2008 at level 38:
The stand has been bloody, the stand has been long. Glordath is a man now,
fully mature. He has grown into his body, his role in life: the fierce
fighter, example of courage to those who live under other mortals, however
they may be enslaved. The Tribunals, the wicked try to pour words of poison
through his ears, into his heart. He combats them. He dedicates their bodies
to Thar-Eris: there is power in a body, even without a spirit. The corpses of
the slain may cry warnings, teach examples from glassy eyes and stilled
mouths. They may give skin and meat, to cover and feed another... and as they
decay and are swallowed, She is nourished, and the dark stains lift, drop by
drop.... but they are always a sign: The Sign of the Free Man. The Man that
celebrates his free life, and suffers none to grasp at it with a thieving
magpie's claws. The Man that does not shy from the blood and pain of battle,
from Death's grim visage.

But is it enough? Will the relentless hunt show the slaves the bloody road to
freedom? Or will the cleave to their remaining masters ever more fearfully?
This question resounds within his heart. He will not back down from the
battle against his enemies. He will strive to perfect his life, his example,
through battle and the proof of victory of the righteous, through maintaining
a clear and pure heart.

He has reached one lost child, Kirsca. The mage's heart saw and heard the
truth. She said she had always felt empty... seeking the Fortress to blindly
fight the wicked out of duty. Glordath has guided her to the wild places, to
speak with her heart and find her path. He will watch over this young one's
first, stumbling steps, and help guide her to the dawn of Thar-Eris.

Clarification-

The previous chapter, "Example. Awaken." is a continuation of the preceding chapter, "Contemplation. Dream."

Example. Awaken.

Added Wed Apr 23 20:24:51 2008 at level 30:
grabbed hold of the fur on his legs, front and back, and began to climb. He
continued his song, his screaming and snarling. None were afraid, they
climbed up to rest on his broad back. Some clung, laughing to his tail. He
scooped up a few stragglers in his mouth by their simple tunics or hair.

A throng of humans, riding a jaguar. He screamed: his heart swelled in the
glory of victorious joy, and every building and wall crumbled, and was
swallowed by the earth. Then he leaped into the cool, beckoning darkness of
the trees. They were free.

He came to, some while later. The quail in his hand all gristle and bones.
Night reigning the sky in dark glory. The Sunwarden standing before him, a
bemused smile's question waiting. Now he knew, so he told her. He was the
jaguar, the free creature, that would wake their hearts. They will hear and
see the battle, for it shall come to their very homes. They shall see
courage. They shall see a free creature, and their hearts will long. They
shall search for the courage that is lost in their societies, in
civilization, and they will find it.

With a jaguar in the heart, they will already be free.

Contemplation. Dream.

Added Wed Apr 23 20:21:57 2008 at level 30:
Dusk softened the sky: the sun's burning orange eye closed in satisfaction,
and the glittering star-children began to bravely peek down at Thar-Eris in
her sleeping beauty. One longhaired wildman lay back against a mighty tree in
the Ar'atouldain, chewing thoughtfully on a raw quail, picking feathers and
flecks of meat from his teeth and beard. His eyes watched the last of the
orange-pink-red glory of day darken into the purple-black bruise of night.
The songs of the wood-elves grew louder. Everything about these people was a
sensory feast: the bright, leaping light and pungent smoke of their
campfires, the rich scent of the living woods, the heady, sweet taste of
their wine, the eager crackle of flame, the easy laughter and bright music.

His eyes were keen. They also saw the dark ones: duergar, human, and dark-elf
skulking in the shadows. He knew of their hidden fortress, through the
leaves, just to the south. He knew the dwarves were still chopping and mining
to the west... and he pondered. What would he fight for? Would he go forth
and just burn with reactionary anger, and blaze out, raging at the wickedness
in the world? No, his battle, his stand must have meaning. Must achieve
something... but what?

Perhaps it was just a daydream. Perhaps just a quick hallucination from the
mixture of smoke and wine and the tricks the woods will play on mortal
senses. He was back in Galadon. His vision. The jaguars prowled the bloody
city and tore the air with their harsh screams of victory. He stood in the
market square, bewildered. A voice that was his poured forth with boldness
from the throat, tongue, and lips that were his. It said: Up! Up off your
knees. I say to you rise, and walk!

And the jaguars stood up. They pulled their skins back from their heads,
hands and feet. They were women and men. They were women and men smiling,
embracing, loving, laughing, singing. They were women and men pulling up the
stones from the Trade Road, and they were not stones, but babies, small
children, svirfnebli, and other men and women. The mouths of the slain
soldiers and undead yawned, and more women and men clambered free into the
light. They gathered together about him, a mighty throng. They held hands.
They smiled, in the light, and they sang. Glordath looked at his hands. They
were paws. He was upon all fours. He sang back: his song was a jungle-cat's
scream. He was looking down on them, for he was impossibly large. The people

Blessings. Questions.

Added Wed Apr 23 20:16:55 2008 at level 30:
Glordath's test of patience was complete. He stood before the Spearmaiden.
Her heart is ancient and wise, holding many truths that the young supplicant
had only glimpsed, only felt passing through his own heart. She spoke of a
cause. A cause to give reason for the battle, for the steel in his spine, for
the grace and courage to fight and bleed... and one day, die.

She asked for his cause. He said "for the land". She said that the land would
survive, it will give and take life from all, whether the righteous or the
wicked. And she was right. As long as the children of Mother, of Thar-Eris
lived, so would She. Their lives, their fates are inextricably intertwined.

Vision. Glory.

Added Wed Apr 16 16:34:21 2008 at level 1:
He came to, dumped outside the walls, clothing torn, robbed of his winter
ox-skin, his water-skin, and his staff. He crawled to his knees and began to
pray. And pray he did, for many hours... to the spirits of the earth, to the
spirits of the wild, to the kind gods above: How could this have happened?
How can they live this way?

A skeptic could say it was the rancid trash he had eaten in the city. Or an
hallucination from hunger, fatigue, thirst, trauma and severe stress. But a
skeptic is nothing more than one too weak to believe. There, on his knees, on
the floor of the Feanwyyn Weald, he saw the vision: the Market Square,
bustling in full swing. Then, each head turned up, hands shading eyes to
see... the sun blotted out by dark crimson. There were no more traders, no
more people... only rotting undead and pale-eyed soldiers. They held sway,
and would forever. But then, ah, blessed glory... like shafts of radiant
darkness they came, eyes and teeth glowing with righteousness: packs of
jaguars pouring through the north, south, east, and western gates, leaping
from the walls... the screams and snarls of hunting, fighting jungle cats,
the moan and cry of the twice-dead, the crippled soldiers. Rivers of blood
washed out the gates and nourished the thirsty land. Combat was over,
purification had begun.

Then he fell, as dead, to the dead leaves and needles of the forest floor. He
lay there for one full day, absorbing the vision, dreaming the future. Then
it was time. He arose, transformed. He was one of the holy pack. His eyes
flashed with righteousness and zeal.

Glordath believes in the inherent worth and life of the land, and the worth
of all the life that dwells on it. He is dismayed that so many in Thera live
under the laws and rules of others, and toil to create "wealth" within their
corrupt, unfair societies. He is angry that so much of this wealth is stolen
from the land and the life within it, and that more land is used for cities,
farms, or is simply claimed to be owned by some arrogant mortal every day.
This cannot continue: he is vowed to exemplify and exhort courage to live
freely within the land given by the gods, under no other mortal's yoke. He is
vowed to destroy those would enslave others and prop up the cruelty of
civilization. He will remain pure by abstaining from any action or company
that might compromise his freedom, his ideals, his heart.

Beauty. Horror.

Added Wed Apr 16 16:31:54 2008 at level 1:
Glordath was born of the meeting of a wood-elf druid and a human ranger. Both
were wanderers. She nurtured him in the Ar'atouldain as a small boy. He
ranged with his father through countless lands: forest, mountain, plains,
marsh. Across the seas and back to his mother again. The boy grew up strong,
with keen instincts and sharp senses. He loved the wilderness and all the
life within, but what was most intriguing and baffling were the settlements.
The little villages and outposts. Then the towns. Then the madness, sorrow,
and terror of the cities. The more people he saw crammed together, living on
top of one another, the weaker and dimmer their eyes seemed, the more
sluggish their movements and their hearts. And the more the land was ripped
up, burned, and leveled to make room for more of them.

He took to wandering on his own. His parents may be alive. They may not be.
He conquered his fright and explored the cities. He laughed at how they
thought the world worked: how can there only be meaningful life and important
happenings within the foolish walls of the cities? He wept tears of
frustration at their callous attitude: how can you believe that the living
earth, the living trees, the living animals, the living PEOPLE are just
things, to be eaten or used up, and not other beings, complete and outside of
yourself and totally equal in their singular, unique glory?

He saw how the powerful handed down decrees, and took their lives and labor
to pay for scraps of land, scraps of food, scraps of love... and not one
shred of dignity. You cannot buy and sell land! It belongs to us all! You
don't need to buy food! It grows and lives everywhere! You cannot buy people
or animals! YOU CANNOT! He screamed in the Market Square, and fell to his
knees in disbelief. None paid him any mind, probably just another crazy or
member of the adventuring guilds. The heat of the sun reflected harshly off
the cobblestones, the stink of the city filled his nostrils, the noise
defeaned him... and he swooned.

Flight. Wrath.

Added Wed Apr 16 16:31:13 2008 at level 1:
The world was made in perfection that all mortal children might live freely
in bliss, never knowing want...

Flashes of green. Tree trunks always stolidly stationary, racing by.
Galloping through the woodlands. This is my home. The trees are alive. I am
alive. The owl and the mouse, the spider and the deer, we are all alive.

This is our world. This is our home.

Galloping still. My heart hammers like horses hooves. The sun flashes through
the canopy. The world is gold and green. My heart is rich and red with life.

They have come to take our home. Take what cannot be given. Take life and
blessings that can only be given, only be stolen.

We will fight.

The swallow and the seagull, the snake and the frog, the felar and the human,
the ant and the oak: we are alive and will not suffer them to take our homes,
our lives, our spirits from us.

(The duty of one that must eat another is to respect the gift of life, to
ensure that which is eaten shall never have their race, their line destroyed
for all time, swallowed up in extinction.)

Mother and Father have shown. Sun and sky, soil and sea have shown: the free
hearts are dying out.

The trunks end: the clearing is an explosion of white light. I am jumping, my
body soars... my eyes adjust and I can see for one frozen moment of time:
they are weary and ugly and sad. They are dressed in rags, their hearts are
in tatters. There are axes in some of their hands, which they put to the
living root of the trees. Some wear bent armor over their rags. Their swords
and shields are dull as their souls. One's back is to me.

I am flying, and there is an axe in my hand. My hand is free and righteous,
full of golden light and power. I will cut the gray-men free from their
slavery.

Jaguar and half-elf. We are alive, and will purify our world.
