Description
Like an exquisitely detailed sculpture this erudite appears to be
painstakingly chiseled from solid slate. His muscles though not massive
are wires, threaded like corded steel. His posture is both affirmative,
and reposed. At full height this man measure six feet tall with perfectly
laid cornrows that are cut short at the neck and give no extra length
that could be grabbed or snagged. Touches of gray are brushed along the
temples and pepper his medium length beard. His facial qualities
slightly contrast his physique in that is it average being neither
handsome nor ugly. Large emerald eyes wrapped in crows feet starkly
contrast his skin tone and give an eerie quality. What is noted most
about his eyes, are the maturity and wisdom in them. When you look at
them you do a mature man who has knowledge beyond his years and an
understanding that too few bother to see.
This man wears a heavy robe of white wool with cuffs and trimming covered
in black rabbit fur. Underneath this robe you note the light armor,
coiled flail, and sheathed sword. These all have seen both travel and
wear. It is by no means in disrepair, but you realize that it has seen
enough use to explain the maturity of its owner. Much can be gleaned and
interpreted by the look of this man, how much is true will require more
than a glance.

Gortanvil was born Voralion City - A city of generally good people. So
naturally his upbringing leans to goodness.
Having seen, in the law dominated Tribunal ruled Voralion City, that law
doesnt apply in every situation and it is the wisdom and weight of a man
that must be measured. He weighs each man in what appears to be chaotic
and un-abiding to the law.
He chose to be a shaman because he naively thought that he could fight
and defeat evil, and that he understood the weight and measure of man.
Coupled with his innate ability to be in touch with the divine, he felt
empowered to strike the blow.

After four years (Age 16 to 20) of his quests against evil he became
jaded to the nature of evil. With inquisition tenacity he questioned
everyone to their actions.
(Example)
-Why are did you kill him?
- Because he was evil.
-What did he do that was evil?
-He was just evil?
-How?
-He just was!
-So you attacked a man that was just evil nothing more?
- Thats enough.
No, it isn't enough in the mind of Gortanvil. This world was not created
to be a land of murders with gossamer thin reasons to kill their fellow
man. He abandoned his quest against evil in order to seek his knowledge
and understanding.
His PK mannerism (if you wonder) are that does not attack his fellow man
without knowing without a doubt that the man is evil. He will defend
himself and retaliate if able. He wont be hunting down evil any time
soon. Perhaps once he has gained more wisdom, knowledge, and understands
he will progress out more aggressively.
For empowerment his soul falls under sway of Whiysdan. He wants to
preserve the knowledge the he realized was so very important in life. He
wants the wisdom to understand the culture of his fellow man and preserve
those cultures that he feels are valuable. His usual conversations are
full of puns, innuendos, and sarcasm and he doesnt shy about it.
For now Gortanvil joins the Heralds of the Eternal Star to both learn all
that he can from the Lyceum, and to observe and talk to his fellow man so
that he can better understand them.
He calls himself a philosopher. He wishes to learn and study all of the
religions. In time he will write them down in a way that can be easily
understood by the layman and hopefully have them added to the Lyceums
records.
13 in the life of Gortanvil:
Added Tue Oct 18 18:24:02 2011 at level 21:
Gortanvil is not truly aware of how 13th plays in his life. I think that
he should have it revealed by Whiysdan in his first interview.
Gortanvil feels drawn to things that are 13 but he doesnt consciously
know that.
Since he never celebrated his birth he is not aware that he was born on
the 13th day of the [13] Month of Dark Shadows.
Further down in his life [his 13th birthday] he started having his
abilities to feel and connect with the divine.
If he were to examine his training in the clergy at the temple of the
Valorian City he would have noticed that he participated in 5 lessons on
metaphysics, 6 on epistemology and 2 lessons on ethics [13].
His life has been saved 13 times during his crusade against evil, and he
remembers them (not his saviors but that he knew he could have died at
that moment.)
He chose to seek a life of knowledge and wisdom on the 5th day of the [5]
Month of Grand Struggle in the 3rd hour [13].
There are 13 steps from the Sumners Crossroad to the front door of Inn
of the Eternal Star.
There are 13 rooms on the first floor of the Inn. Where he seeks to work
and discuss philosophy.
There are 13 steps from the trail behind the Inn you until arrive before
the Celestial Lyceum where Gortanvil seeks to study, and enter in the
knowledge of the gods...

Gortanvils long Term Future
Added Tue Oct 18 23:29:58 2011 at level 21:
After a heated moment with Neltouda (Gortanvils analogy may have been
misconstrued by the Lady Captain) and a long discussion with the High
Herald Skeeta, he realized that his short term goals were not enough.
He was right in his judgment to seek wisdom and knowledge first at the
Inn and Lyceum, but there is more
Lady Skeeta spoke of an Ancient shaman who spent many hours of his life
behind a desk with tomes and scrolls, but when he had acquired the
knowledge he sought he would go far and wide into the world and smite
ancient evils that had long debased the world and recover ancient
knowledge/culture.
It was said for example that this Shaman strode into the Desert of Azhan
and smote the Mummy there and retrieved the ancient shamanistic arts of
rot and wither. This great shaman was able to both deliver the world of
evils and preserve culture and bring it to the present world for all to
learn.
This couldnt have rung more true to Gortanvil. A rugged adventure who
spends his time gaining knowledge and skill, then when he ready, he sets
out on a bold adventure to retrieve lost culture no matter the evils and
bring it back to the world.
Where has he been?
Added Fri Nov 4 05:44:58 2011 at level 40:
Gorty (the most common nickname) has had MANY discussions with quite a
few people, and learned many things from many people. He has met 3
people who are possessed by a demon, angel, spirit, or have some kind of
psychotic. Some are hopelessly enthralled by their possessions and
others fight to have them excised. Either way, it proves to Gorty that
not all people are so easily typed.
A significant conversation from Zynzyn the arial necromancer which turned
out to be a lie and contrived story significantly influenced his thoughts
to how one should deal with evil. True evil should not be allowed to be
in any form. Zynzyn, who lie and contrives tales to fool those who are
naive, must be stopped at all cost.
He has taken to heart that fact that he was named the First of the Lucky
Lord. It has given him both status and responsibility. He has spoken
on behalf of his Lord on matters of wisdom, culture, 13 and it is quickly
assumed that he is wise in many areas. To be true his time spent in the
Lyceum, speaking with others and traveling the world in search of
knowledge and wisdom has allowed him to learn much, but he is quick to
state that true wisdom came to him when he realized that he is not
capable of knowing everything Though that doesnt mean he will stop
trying to learn more.
Lingering in the recesses of his mind are thoughts about that shaman that
was spoken of as a legend. He wonders if a he will perhaps unearth some
ancient shaman supplication, or perhaps find a tome of knowledge that
will be a beacon of hope and enlightenment to the world.
He has spoken often to the fellow disciples of Lord Whiysdan (who both
have received and seek to receive his blessing) and has helped them to
find and understand that wisdoms of the world. Perhaps Lord Whiysdan
wishes his first to gather together 13 disciples Lord Whiysdan has given
Gortanvil great breadth to learn and understand as he sees fit and now it
comes time to stand before his lord and show what he has accomplished.
Gortanvil, while spending much time at the Inn of Eternal, has become an
exceptional cook. This has given forth a revelation. Once you have
tasted quality food you cannot look upon food in the same way. There
will always be something once can change or do to it to make it better.
Just as he has learned this from food he realized that he cannot look
upon the ordinary world any longer, and accept it for what it is. He
will strive to change it into the best dish he can.
Gortanvil Redux (Coffee doesnt cut it)Part 1
Added Mon Nov 21 21:05:52 2011 at level 46:
Time flies and days pass without notice. When you are over 40 the paces
of coming to the Inn, serving the occasional meal & drink are a blur of
repetition. Then one day you look up from your latest tome that has
caught your fancy. Where did all the time go?
Adventures to exotic locales are hallmarks in Gortanvils mind. He has
delved into the depths of many places, but still he seeks more daring
places like the Lost Elven Vaults, Thar-acacia, Ayerthl Zelaath , the
Tower of Trothon.
Having had some shocking fights with necromancers, anti-paladins and a
thief in austere locations that were unexpected would have been
catastrophic to his mental state if it were not for Lord Whiysdan.
To Gortanvil, Lord Whiysdan is a shining beacon of life. The lucky lord
embraces the wise who lead an examined life and do not wander around
without thought. He exemplifies the courage one needs in life to
continue on and to not let the malaise of evil that waffs through the
world get you down. He always speaks praises to his lord and seeks ways
he can do more for him.
As a way to embrace the world as his lord does, Gortanvil has taken up
heavy drinking and is usually in a constant drunken state. His drunken
state shields him from the constant need to weigh and measure his
situations. It also lifts his spirits and put a smile on his face. He
used it to embrace the more random events that befall him and live life
to the fullest.
Gortanvil Redux (Coffee doesnt cut it) Part 2
Added Mon Nov 21 21:06:14 2011 at level 46:
Gortanvil has embraced the enigma that is 13. It has become a statement
of expiration and inspiration By 13! He says. He no longer hopes to
understand the enigma (and the drinking helps.) He simply embraces it as
he does luck and the fortunes of life as a constant in life.
Gortanvil hates the empire because of what they stand for. To him they
are enslavers of the world who subjugate and crush the ideology of Lord
Whiysdan (to embrace life.)
Gortanvil is sometimes boggled his attempts to seek retribution against
the evils in the world. Often when he is out looking for them, they are
never to be found. Yet they appear out of the cracks like cockroaches
when he is not hunting them.
His latest endeavor will to be to reach the pinnacle of the shaman craft
and find ways to form bonds with those he would like to call friends.
