Description
Before you stands a well-dressed and presented Duergar, who clearly takes
pride in his appearance. Jet-black hair has been elegantly braided into the
latest Galadonian fashion, matched perfectly with his neatly trimmed beard.
Blending with his hair and ebony skin, you notice deep-set dark eyes, staring
out with a fierce gaze.
His clothing has been kept in immaculate condition: cleanly pressed, not a
speck of dirt and all buttons and buckles polished to a bright shine. Even
the polish on his shoes twinkle like the night sky, a hard feat to maintain.
Various jewelry of significant value can be seen too, enhancing his already
impressive image. Subtly slung about this Duergar you can see a variety of
weapons, not overtly on display, nor are they completely hidden.
Role
Imperial Orders

"So these are the ones?" queries the Elite Imperial Shadow
"Aye, sir, hand picked by myself from around our lands. No parents and too
young to have taken the Oath yet." responds the lower ranking Shadow
"Excellent. You understand your orders?"
"Aye, sir."
"Repeat them to me."
"I am to raise and train these children as Imperial spies, they are to infiltrate
opposing organisations to gather intel and track our enemies movements."
"This is a direct order from the Shadow Lord, be sure you don't disappoint us."
"Of course not, sir."
"Good. Which unlucky sod will go to the Village?"
"The Duergar, their kind are savage enough to fit in nicely."
"You are aware of their recruitment process?"
"Aye, sir, I had a Black confirm that he has had no exposure to magic and
his training will be purely mundane, no magic involved."
"Excellent. Keep me informed of their progress."
Pride and duty
Added Wed Apr 7 20:17:44 2021 at level 1:
Checking his belongings one final time, Grakkor Mageflayer (a fake name given
to him to aid in his duty) prepares to head out on what will likely be the
most important mission of his career. Grakkor is proud of the opportunity and
looks forward to impressing the Shadow sect leaders. For as long as he can
remember he has trained for this moment: though he had formal training in how
to behave in a civilised Imperial world, he has also trained in how to fit in
with the Village. This training extends beyond just an understanding of the
Village but to enacting entirely new and fake persona: one that is as rough and
as savage as the Village he hopes to infiltrate.
Though he knows the following years will be tough, living amongst savages,
Grakkor looks forward to his rapid advancement through the Shadow ranks once
his duty is complete. For Grakkor fame, prestige and status is everything,
and he will do almost anything to achieve it.
This sense of pride was fostered by his teacher, who was an avid Morian.
Like all good Morians, his teacher pushed the Church's teaching upon all
his students, emphasizing the importance of pride in one's position in
life. Though he has never been to the Church, Grakkor looks forward to
someday visiting his Lord and earning a place of status there too.
The Mageflayer name
Added Fri Apr 9 20:37:08 2021 at level 13:
"You know your story then?" pries the Imperial Shadow
"Yes, sir"
"Tell me"
"My name is Grakkor Mageflayer, son of Drothok Mageflayer..."
"Not like that, they'll spot you a mile away. Like we rehearsed"
"Right" the young Duergar pauses momentarily to clear his throat, when he
speaks again it is with an entirely different accent "Me name be Grakkor
Mageflayer, but yer bastards can call me Grak. Me pa was a Villager like yer
lot too, that's how he earned the name Mageflayer, like teh skin 'em yer see"
The Duergar lets out a rough laugh before continuing, "but then me pa ruined
his fargin' leg in battle, couldn't keep bloody fightin', so he went whorin'
instead. That be where I come in. Was a real bastard, between his
drinkin' and beatin's but he did teach me one thing, and that thing I do real
bloody good: flayin' mages"
The Duergar pulls his water canteen to his mouth and takes a quick sip,
grimacing as if it were something stronger. "That's why I stand 'ere before
yer lot today, ready to continue the family fargin' name, eh?"
Throughout the Duergar's act the watching Shadow slowly nods along. "Good
enough" he replies, "The savages will not care too much about why you hunt
mages, so long as it's clear that you want them dead. Do not disappoint us"
Mission status
Added Mon May 3 04:37:48 2021 at level 37:
It has been more than two decades since Grakkor Mageflayer infiltrated the
Village, two decades of stink, filth, mud and savagery. Still Grakkor remains
loyal to the Empire and his mission. Though he does not like it.
During his time, Grakkor has routinely sabotaged the Village:
. - Leaking vital intel to the Empire about Villager movement, specialisations, etc.
. - Providing the Village with misinformation
. - Scouting Village movements for the Imperial Council
. - Stealing and selling more than 800 gold worth of equipment from the Village pit
. - He even voted for the weakest leadership candidate during the Rites
Grakkor is proud of his achievements and believes he has completed his
mission well, and has begun to wonder when it might end. Surely he has earned
the right to move back into civilisation, to rise with the Emperor's favor
through the ranks. As such, Grakkor has become more reckless with his cover,
almost hoping to be caught so that he might escape the Village. Though the
shame of being caught would certainly sting his pride.
Grakkor visited his Lord's Church too, believing himself to finally be
worthy of Morius' attention. Though his Lord did not show, Grakkor believes
it is only a matter of time before he finally captures his Lord's
attention.
New beginnings and next steps
Added Sun May 23 03:31:14 2021 at level 51:
Whistling loudly to himself a filthy, naked Duergar calmly scrubs his grime
covered feet in Galadon's Court of the Light fountain. Laying near the edge
is a pile of equally disgusting armour and weapons. A brown cloud of filth
gently floats around there Duergar, spoiling the once pristine water. Those
who come for a fresh drink are quickly deterred. Some glare at the Duergar in
disgust, most avoid eye contact with the scarred and muscular man and a few
flee in fear as they recognise Galadon's very own Kingpin.
After some time the now clean Duergar emerges from the water, dark skin
now carrying a tinge of pink after being scrubbed so hard. Reaching into his
backpack he pulls out a pile of neatly folded and fashionable clothing and
begins dressing himself.
Using the relfection on his polished dagger, the Duergar proudly admires
his new appearance. A frown crosses his face as his eyes fall upon the
wild hair and bread. Cursing loudly the now immaculately dressed and
stylish Duergar strikes off to find a barber, leaving the filthy armour to
bake in the sun.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Having completed his duty, Grakkor is pleased to have finally escaped the
stench, mud and savagery of the Village and looks forward to taking his
rightful place within the Empire. Though there is still much to be done:
1. It seems his cover within the Village was too thorough, for not even
. the Recruiter himself will accept his Oath. Grakkor will seek out the
. Dark Lords of the Empire instead.
2. His Almighty Lord Morius has still been difficult to seek out, Grakkor
. is undeterred though and will continue his prayer.
3. Grakkor has been banned from the Inn for mistakes made in his youth.
. As a proud and prominent citizen of the Empire this cannot stand, for
. it is in these new higher class social circles he seeks recognition and
. respect.
4. Finally, his false last name 'Mageflayer' must go. It is not a name he has
. earned, nor one to be proud of.
Success and failure
Added Fri Jul 9 00:04:38 2021 at level 51:
Many more years have passed and to Grakkor's great frustration few of his
goals have panned out. The most substantial of all these frustrations is the
apparent neglect from his lord Morius, Grakkor seeks many things in life and
one of those is a lofty position within the Church.
Yet for all his prayers, teachings and dedication only once has he spoken
with The Almighty. The shame of dedicating one's life to another to be
completely ignored smolders within Grakkor, for where once he knew only
dedication, a deep seated anger has also set in. So much so that Grakkor had
considered turning to a lesser divine for the attention he deserved, the Lady
of Deception whom he had felt a slight kinship with during his time at the
Village.
On his latest trip to the Church however he met one named Riettlor: a Drow
who proudly bore the mark of their Lord. He set Grakkor a challenge: to
return with a trophy he is proud of and a failure.
Much of Grakkor's other pursuits have ended in frustration too. He has not
been able to regain access to the Inn and his entrance into the Empire was
heavily delayed. As a result, after all his decades of commitment, living
amongst savages, he is still only a lowly ranked Shadow. This lowly title
angers him to no end.
Since leaving the Village, Grakkor has also taken more pride in his
appearance and his abilities. He does not dress like his subordinates, who
cover themselves in the rarest and most powerful armour. Instead Grakkor
takes pride in his ability to destroy them in comfort and the latest fashion.
As Grakkor's skills and abilities have improved, so too has his outlook on
warfare. Grakkor sees regular combat as beneath him, detests getting blood on
his clothing and avoids direct conflict as much as possible. Instead he
prefers more sophisticated methods of destroying his enemies, whether that be
through traps or binding them up for another to do the dirty work.
Imperial Pride
Added Thu Aug 5 07:44:49 2021 at level 51:
Never before has the Empire been stronger, ranks swell and enemies fall. Yet
Grakkor only sees weakness. For in his eyes the Empire lacks pride.
Imperials walk side by side with Orcs, wild beasts who could not utter the
oath if they tried. The second law dictates that all items of power are to be
kept within the throne, yet the Emperor panders an alliance with the city
watch. And he constantly witnesses Imperials walking with the unoathed, never
applying pressure to take it.
To Grakkor the options are simple: take the oath or die.
As was always his plan, Grakkor begins scheming for the title of Emperor.
Though he knows it will be difficult, as he is not well liked within the
Empire. Once in his proper place, he will show Thera what a truly powerful
Empire can be, one all Imperials can be proud of.
Grakkor's prayers in the Church continue to go unanswered. The silence is a
crippling blow to his pride, for he knows he is worthy of divine attention.
His need for such continues to burn within him as his thoughts of other
immortals and abandoning the Church grow more frequent.
In fact, the only Lord to speak with Grakkor of late is the Lord Whiysdan,
who was particularly unpleasant. After some threatening words, Grakkor knows
he will never regain entrance to the Inn and has sworn vengeance against any
who work there.
