Role
Life of the Young Orc and a Realization
Added Tue Sep 20 11:24:52 2011 at level 16:
Peon, Worm, Dirt, Insect, Whelp and others less savory, words Gralog had heard
thrown at him since birth. Having known no other way, a young orc became use to
them the same way a child of another race might answer to sweatie pie, snuggle
bug, or some other pet name which would sound equally rediculous to one of
Gralog's upbringing. The beatings for moving to slow, being in the way, or just
because you were there was another common facet of orc life Gralog noticed no
more than a human would notice hugs or kisses.
At times mistreatment would raise the ire of Gralog, longing for a time that he
could stike back at those that injured him, but one thing that he often noticed
was one that would beat him one day would leave the village never to return, or
to return as a burnt corpse.
Eventually Gralog would see the day he too would venture from the village, and he
realized the treatments young orcs received at the hands of other orcs were nothing
compared to what the rest of the realm wanted to do to them. In his first outings
he wanted to run back for the relative comfort and safety of the Grinning Skull
village as he saw those he ventured with burned away. He thought of resigning
himself to a life in the slave pins, thinking any mistreatment in the village
preferable to the hazards of the outside world. However, As assaults on the village
increased, he realized if there were not orcs who were strong and fought back when
they had too, there would eventually be no orcs at all.
Gralog committed himself to becoming stronger in the ways of the berseker to allow
himself to strike at those who would harm the Grinning Skulls in hopes of one day
being able to abuse the weaker orcs of his village without the molestations of the
outside world. So Glarog pushed down his fear, and began to venture more into the
realm beyond the gates of the village.
Enemies of the Skulls
Added Thu Sep 29 12:59:57 2011 at level 29:
Gralog continues his training and fighting the foes of the clan. Many young
orcs attacked any they could find, and Gralog did to for a time. However,
Gralog knew there were plenty of enemies of the clan without making new ones.
was not one to pass on a weak opponent, but he was not one to throw
away what he might use later either.
Gralog saw that the bigger threats were from more powerful adventurers
however. Though he new he was strong with the titles he had, he knew he had
to advance futher if he was to truly protect the village.
Fear, to Abandon, and the Begining of Wisdom
Added Fri Oct 7 13:32:19 2011 at level 37:
Gralog continued to grow, and become stronger. As he became stronger he
became wilder and more out of control and often forgot his fears. He became
more zealous about destroying those that would destroy him and learned more
of the abandon of the berseker following the path of the Shig-ru.
However, he eventually started blindly charing into fray pursuing a foe
without paying attention to what was around him usually just lead to a dead
orc, and a dead orc was no good to the Skulls (unless he had something you
wanted to take from him). Gralog started to actually learn something from
his defeats, and began to study more the ways of war and what lead to
success, and what lead to defeat.
Complexity of the Realm
Added Fri Oct 14 10:45:41 2011 at level 45:
As he got older, Gralog saw more and more how complex the realm was, and how much
more complex it was for an Orc. Yes, for the normal orc life was very simple,
eat or be eaten, abuse the weak and kowtow to those stronger than you, but Gralog
had always had a little larger worldview than the typical Orc. Gralog's main
goal, beyond they goals that every Orc shared mentioned above, was the survival of
the clan. He sought allies who would battle with him against those who sought the
destruction of the Grinning Skulls and did not care that much either way about those
who did not care about Orcs. However, he learned very quickly, making one person
your ally, seemed to automatically make someone else your enemy, and failure to strike
at someone you thought an ally, would make your ally your enemy.
He learned more and more Orcs could depend only depend on other orcs, and even other
orcs would turn on you quickly if they had something to gain. Orcs at least were
predicatble, and being one of the strongest orcs made it easier to force the actions
of others. As he found himself more and more destroying those he had once walked with,
Gralog began to understand more the sublte nuances of the temporary alliance, and how
to handle himself in crafting them.
Early Days as Chief
Added Sun Oct 23 11:19:03 2011 at level 51:
Gralog has so far been very self impressed at his ability to maintain pseudo alliances
with both the Empire and the Village while simultaneously staying on good terms with
the Scions and worshipers of the Great Beast. He finds this even more impressive
considering he has slain both imperials and battleragers. He beleives maintaining these
relationships is necessary for now though based on the strength of the fort, and the
relatively small number of orcs near the end of their training.
Gralog suspect the day will come when he can no longer maintain these relationships.
When he is forced to choose, he knows he prefers the villagers to the imperials (at least
the duergars, giant, and minotaurs), however, their self imposed restrictions in combat
make them much less useful allies, and the imperials have much more to offer overall.
For now, he will try to maintain the status quo.
Gralog has learned fairly quickly who he can best, and who he needs to run from alone, however
those he can best are usually surrounded by those who he cannot defeat alone. He continues
to strive to find ways to get through the thorny exterior to the soft chewy center of the Fort.
Law and Elves
Added Tue Oct 25 12:22:35 2011 at level 51:
Gralog fumes to himself about the elf sitting in Galadon. His instincts tell him
there is an elf, it needs to die, but Gralog also realizes many enemies of the
tribunals, are the same enemies of the Grinning Skulls. He also realizes that
those of the spire, with their misguided ideas of rules and protections, would
be much less understanding of his need to see all elves dead, than those of
the village. For the meantime he decides to wait, and try to catch them when
not under the protection of the cities, although this elf never seems to leave.
New Wars with the Fortress
Added Fri Nov 25 01:04:27 2011 at level 51:
As the conflict between the barbarians and the fort intensifies, Gralog
congratulates himself on the peace he has maintained with the village. The
death of Garwern makes him feel some progress is being made in the conflict,
but the relative weakness of the Grinning Skulls compared to everyone else
forces Gralog to admit he is really only a bit player in the war with the
Fortress and the Empire being the big boys in this game. Gralog continues to
interject himself were he can and find more ways to kill Maran
Shifts in Power
Added Wed Nov 30 16:17:24 2011 at level 51:
From Gralog's perspective, Imperial influence has waned enough he is no longer compelled to
avoid breaking the laws of the tribunal's to maintain the same relationship he had before. The
Scion's are now exerting much more influence during the times he is awake, and he seeks to
strengthen these ties, while maintaining neutrality with the batteleragers still.
Also, though Gralog loves to receive pain, he likes giving it more, and realizes his body is
beginning to weaken to the point he needs to become more cautios in his fights before he
completely destroys himself. He is also watching the clan to see if there are any capable,
or worthy to unseat him, but he sees none so far.
End of Reign
Added Mon Dec 5 13:22:27 2011 at level 51:
As Gralog reaches middle age, he realizes he will never become an old orc. Injuries and scars
both apparent and felt only by the orc are mounting and he can feel the toll it is taking on
his body. He is still able to fight as fiercly as ever, but recovering from those fights is
taking longer, and he feels pains he shrugged off once upon a time.
However, Gralog does not waver in his views on his campaign against the fort and it's allies.
If anything, the reminders of his mortality only strengthen his resolve, although he is
attemting to apply more wisdom in his attacks in an attempt to inflict more pain than he
receives.
Gralog is watching over the clan warily as he sees many young, strong orcs starting to rise.
he expects he may be challenedged for the throne soon, but will not stop it. As chief, he
does have the good of the clan in the mind, as well as he realizes what makes the clan more
survivable strengthens all orcs, including himself. He also realizes he will not live that
much longer, and in the end the clan and orcs he has sired is all that will be left of him.
He is now placing more focus on training the younger orcs, and trying to groom the one he
expects will replace him as chief.
