Description
Dark skin and scarred features loom underneath this priest's hood. Strangely
enough for his kind, he seems to have bathed somewhat recently. Strands of
black hair peek out from his hood, but the majority appears to be neatly
tied back. The priest's robe was once black, but time has faded it's hues.
The sleeves are torn in places, but the tears have been hastily mended by
an uncertain hand. The robe probably looked better before the failed
handiwork. An assortment of weapons, axe, sword, and flail hang from his
belt and the nicked edges of the blades give sign to their frequent use. The
priest's right hand rests uneasily on the axe hilt, gaudy rings adorning
his newly cleaned fingers. His robe bulges in sections, with bits of dark
metal peeking out through the tears, indicating heavier armor than seemed at
first glance. The duergar glares out fiercly, though he displays an unusual
uncertainty--perhaps due to the recent bath. Looking further, you see...

Land of Opportunity

The sun has made these people weak! Mah own people, especially. I walk
the streets o Hamsah Mu'Tazz and Galdon and see these snivelling surface
dwellers wanderin about with no idea. And how many duergar made their
way up ta the surface and adopted highfalutin ways better left to sun-
snivelling elves. Struttin around all cleaned up in their finery, wishin
they were human or some such. And yet many of these fools and cowards are
rich and powerful. Oy! Gravizk be the one deservin riches and slaves. Not
havin these things yet, but soon enough, yes. Oh, yes. Ah will find Enlilth
and in return for my service the god will empower me to greatness.
Unlike some o my brethren, I remember where I am from. Born and aged, say
not raised, in the heart o Aran'Gird to a pair of black-hearted parents.
Ma rarely botherin to leave bed save to pop another shroom into her greedy
mouth, eyes rolled back into her head. Pa drunk fore breakfast and by noon
was takin to me with the nearest object. Sometimes would give me the choice
tween the belt and his hammer. I chose hammer to remember the pain. He's
especially hungover one mornin and as he turns to fumble for his stick he
slumps over fer the last time. Kitchen knife out of his back, handle in my
very own hand. I ain't saying there be no place fer authority an obedience,
but's just a matter o biding your time till opportunity arises. Better off
for it, and thats what matters. Mother killin herself anyway, no need fer me
to bother. I just took what little money was left in the home and made my
way to the surface. Folk down there be hard and poor. Here? Soft and rich.
Opportunities abound, now to find the Voice of Tyrrany.
Bloody Beginnings

Ah surely bein blessed by the Tyrant isself! Be restin me legs and mind a bit
in the guild o Galadon when Enlilth come to me in ther form o a giant. Ah was
a bit suspicious at first when the giant be speakin to me. Peraps some elfish
illusion or trick were upon me. But no! Only the Lord coulda spoke to me like
that. Such power and strength! Been a busy bit o days fer me since. My master
be desirin blood on me blade and blood ah saught. Still bein young, ah had a few
missteps on the way. Bloody mountain scum dwarf shaman caught me unawares and
untrained in the arts o resistin is magic. Still be huntin the elf blood tha the
lord prefers, but I were able to teach a pair o warriors the power of the Tyrant.
A dwarf foolish enough ta strike a me, even unawares, and a bumbling giant in
the mountains.
Great heights await me! As ah thought, this land be full o the weak and fat.
Undeservin o the riches n power they come to. Gravizk be caught the eye o the
Tyrant. Ah can only hope to serve and please the Lord so in to rise in power
and strength. Crushin the surface dwellin weaklings neath mah blade.
Faithful Servant

Gravizk, Imperial Acolyte. Ah certainly like the sound o that! Not that
it bein mah final goal. Oh no! The Divine Sect facin a current lack o
leadership, an it seems that Imperial Priest Vinq not bein likely to step
into tha void. How about Gravizk, High Priest? Bein a long road, no doubt,
an ah need to take one step at ah time. Ah must step up mah efforts ter
spread the name o Enlilth.
Speakin o which, ah have some hopes fer the convert Jaeger tha ah should
put ter writin. Ah trained with the thief a few times, and managed to
convince 'im o the endless possibilities o worshipin the Tyrant. Since,
'e claims that 'es left a number o gifts fer mah Lord at the altar. The
thief be hopin to gain entrance to the Spire, though e waits on the
pleasure o an audience with Marcatis. Ahm thinkin the Spire be a decent
place fer young worshipers, if 'e were to gain a position o authority...
then peraps the laws o the Tribunal, or a least their enforcement, could
be turned to the ways o the Tyrant. An, additional, could be made more
like to the true laws o Imperial Thera. If the thief provin unable to
enter the Spire an prove useful, then ah kin always discard im.
Ah been spendin time o late in Galadon, spreadin the word of Enlilth. Ah
think ah be gainin some traction with the local citizenry. When ah prod
em, they kin look around themselves and see, plain as day, that their
neighbors bein too rich an too powerful undeserved. They kin see that this
wealth an power ought be theirs, by right o strength. That bein all ah
ask, and ought be enough to turn them to Enlilth. Oi these weak surface
landers!
Rise of the Divine
Added Tue Sep 13 21:11:23 2011 at level 45:
Mah time is comin soon, both the Emperor an War Master recently
havin spoke o my future as High Priest. May ah bring great glory
to Enlilth, fer the Merciful Lord havin raised me up high above
the the weak and fearful surface worlders. Though ah not yet
havin gained the position, bein time to plan mah rule over the
Divine Sect. The other Citizens often speak words o respect
fer the Divine, but ah cannot trust em. Especially the under-
handed Blacks an the sneaky Shadow. The Shadows bein rightful
ter fear me, since mah blessed eyes pierce their treacheries.
Far too long the Divine bein the weakest o the sects, with nothin
close to the numbers o the others, especially the Blades. As
High Priest, bein mah duty to Enlilth to raise the stature o the
Divine an bring treasures ter his shrine. It also helpin that
the resurgince o the Sect be directly in mah own interests. The
question bein, however, how to grow the sect? It not bein like the
blades, where one dumb giant bashin down another kin lead to the
offerin o the Blood Oath. The Divine bein home to the truly
blessed, those with a closer connection to the dark gods o Empire,
especially the Tyrant. Recruitin to the Sect, ah would say, best
be done by raisin the profile o Enlilth across the cities.
Ah see now! Use mah authority to coerce the oaths an other
Citizens to spread the glory o Enlilth throughout Thera. Ah will
not accept their payin mere lipservice amongst each other, but
they must be goin out, as disciples, an teachin others o the power
and riches possible through Enlilth. O course, Citizens bein good
at doin this through bloodshed, which bein perfectly acceptable.
Peraps some reward fer bringin converts to the Tyrant's service
be a proper motivation fer em...
Essay on Free Will
Added Tue Sep 13 23:57:30 2011 at level 45:
Ah come into Thera thinkon o mahself only, an this bein how ah have lived
mah life. But spendin so much time here, an doin mah best to serve the
mah Lord Enlilth an the Empire, given me much time ter think an experience
ter draw upon. As such, ah havin realized that mah own goals an the
greater goals o civilization be one an the same. Ah havin spoke at length
with the Nexun Allysia an a number o lawmen o the Spire and all o them
claimin to value the freedom o the individual very highly. Ah ask a
simple question, "Why?"
Why are some placin intrisic value on this free will o the poor an
uneducated folk. Such creatures not bein blessed ter serve the Mericful
Lord an partake in the glory o the Empire are livin wretched, unhappy lives.
An again, ah ask, "Why?"
There bein many, thousands, o folk out there not wise er strong enough
to be makin the proper choices ter bring wealth an prosperity ter themselves
an their families. An such people, ah argue, gladly sacrificin the
ability, no rather ah say the responsibility, o makin their own choices.
Fer such people, this free will bein a burden an not a blessin. Ah,
with the power o the Empire, bein the one ter use mah wisdom an power
ter make such hard choices fer the people, an doin so bring civilization
an prosperity to em. An, o course, bein only right that, in doin so
ah accumulate a fair bit o wealth an power fer mahself, as deservin fer
mah duty to the people.
The people bein unready an unfit fer the burden o choice, an would glady
be tradin such an onerous task fer safety an stability. Ah must keep
em ignorant o the true choices ah havin to make, an they will thank an praise
me fer it.
This bein the truth that ah must spread, bein the truth that many
heroes o Thera refusin to admit. Aye, fer some, such as the Nexan bard,
havin lived many years an gained much wisdom, freedom o choice bein an
earned right. An as ah said ter her, there bein also a duty ter use
that wisdom an those experiences ter choose fer those o lesser strengths.
Ah would offer to such heroes dominion o'er their foes an over lesser
creatures. An with such dominion, the wise will spread civilization
an wealth across Thera. This, truly, bein the way ter honor Enlilth
an bring great conquest an glory to mah Lord.
