Description

Looking at the short figure of merely a few feet before you, deeply hued grey skin seems to cover what his light armor does not. Thick, milky-white hair sprawls about the top of his balding head, leaving only a dull-grey round spot. From beneath the few locks that dangle down into his face, small round cheeks complimented with large, glossy midnight-blue eyes reflect his surroundings near perfectly. Covered in sun-spots, his skin looks weathered and worn with age, hiding beneath bits of his clothes. His dress is rather simple, no doubt worn well through many adventures. His attire appears at least decently maintained, aside from the rather obvious and strong stench of salt and seaweed. Surprisingly the last thing you notice is his warm smile, beaming brightly as he peers about himself cautiously.

Role

Affirmation

Added Sun Sep 7 02:07:04 2008 at level 48:
I've found renewed faith in the weather of late. Simply sitting atop the
Tahril mountains and witnessing the miracles of the storm are nothing short
of inspirational. Hoping to have captured that well within the confines of my
canvas, I've shared it with a few, including the Captain and had nothing but
great reviews. Still though, through all of this, I've yet to paint a truly
inspirational piece... Am I losing sight of the sea or am I just trying to
please the Captain? With any luck, I will soon be able to start making my own
ship, or perhaps come across one worthy of commandeering, definitely
something to discuss with the Captain.

While swimming around the other day, I stumbled into what I've heard to be
the lost civilation of Kuhara. Though not entirely sure if this was true or
not, I continued swimming around, exploring the streets of this one great
city, now in ruin. It wasn't until I came upon a few statues that inspiration
hit me like a crashing wave, commanded by the strongest of winds. After
reorienting myself and the sand settled once more, the idea popped into my
consciousness and I knew what it was that I would do. This city, though lost
in ruin beneath the surface, forgotten by all, it did not have to be.
Sometime, somewhere, someone forgot to make record of this place, be it for a
reason or not. That got me searching around the Lyceum for more information
that I could gather, and perhaps see what else is lost to time. Though I'm no
scribe, I figured if I can paint a portrait with enough likeness to those
currently in power, then perhaps the Lyceum could host a hall of legends, a
gallery of sorts with portraits of past and present influential,
inspirational figures. The idea sat well with the Captain and I'll be telling
the rest of us about it soon enough.

This past eve the most exciting thing has happened. If I wasn't already
grateful just to be crew onboard the Maiden, the Captain reassured me that I
belonged. It happened inbetween heartbeats, faster than lightning could
strike even, and before I knew it a little glowing cloud resided on my arm.
Left me with a heightened sense of self-awareness and accomplishment, and
instantly set forth to meditate on this.

Life Away From the Sea

Added Mon Sep 1 02:13:13 2008 at level 41:
Well, it's been quite some time since I've poured my heart into the lines of
this journal, and I feel now more than ever the desire to do so. With things
going the way they are, I just don't know how much longer I can take being
away from the sea. I've been following the storm, studying along the way and
taking in what I can, and I can honestly say that I feel I'm quite ready to
move on, and let the storm follow me instead. All this time I've been looking
to it for inspiration when I realized that I've got it in me, it just took a
bit of time and a few bolts of lightning to realize it. I see now that I must
use what I learn to inspire others, each brush stroke like a rain drop in the
storm, each one alone is but mere water, but together a torrent of creativity
poured onto a canvas. The knowledge I garner from my guildmaster I will
ultimately be able to use once I gather enough crew to set sail again. Until
that time, I remain a faithful in the employ of my Captain, who it is my
personal goal to one day see as Admiral.

I am pleased to report that my weaving is coming along nicely as well, though
as my attempts continue, I've noted the tapestries to be too small. I simply
cannot seem to find fabric with strong enough threads to support the
large-scale weaving that I should hope to accomplish. Though this is only a
small setback, it has hindered a few of my attempts to weave masterpieces and
as such have had to resort to the canvas of scrolls. I will continue to
search for stronger fabric.

The Path Revealed

Added Mon Aug 25 20:31:39 2008 at level 31:
After having spoken more with the Outlanders about the Refuge, I decided that
it wasn't for me. If I am to chase the storm and eventually one day be the
Captain of my own ship, I would need to be free and not be sidetracked by
their political wars. Though the couple I had words with did help open my
eyes to some of the truths that they believed in. While we may not agree in
every aspect, I do feel strongly about their beliefs of orcs and duergar and
certainly a few other folks who belong in a similar category of defilers.
Though we differ in that those few I mentioned simply take joy in destroying
what nature has created for seemingly no reason at all. Though my heart will
always be for the sea, I feel that nature can provide some of the greatest
landscapes to develop creativity and allow others to expand in their arts as
well. This is why I shall try and witness firsthand and perhaps develop more
action to add to my current 'still-life' art style of weaving.

The Channel Divided

Added Fri Aug 22 15:18:09 2008 at level 24:
Having learned some of the tricks and trades of the wild, I seem to be doing
fairly well for myself thus far. Still a bit unsure as to where I truly
belong, I've begun investigating possible outcomes. I've spoken with a couple
of the Refuge and while some of their beliefs seem valid, I'm not entirely
certain it aligns with my own beliefs and ultimate goals. I recall my Captain
being rather excited with mention of seeing how I'd fit with the Heralds. I'm
hesitant in that it seems a rather odd place for one of my study, but at the
same time drawn to it as it seems to have what I need: Good company, an
inspiring gallery, and a nice supply of alcohol. At this point, I think it
best if I continue to focus on my Captain and related studies. Must
familiarize myself more with the land and sea, and continue to better my
artwork.

Midget Deckhand

Added Mon Aug 18 22:20:19 2008 at level 1:
It all began back when I was just a wee little gnome working in the mountainy
fields of Hillcrest. My parents were the sort of folk who had no future, no
ambition at all and were happy with being simple farmers. I can honestly say
that I was going to end up the same way, were it not for the incident that
took place one dreary afternoon coming back from a short break in the fields.
They hit the town like a tornado and before I could even really discern what
was going on, I was thrown in a sack swept away with the madness took my
hometown. A kidnapping, this had to be some sort of sick joke, things like
this didn't happen in the quiet, peaceful town of Hillcrest, but it did that
day. I was taken aboard the caravan heading east, along with four other
childhood friends of mine. Seven days and one gnome later, we arrived at the
docks of Hamsah Mu'tazz where the brigands threw us aboard their ship along
with various other trinkets and sacks, I'm guessing Hillcrest wasn't the only
town they struck. It was Raisley who didn't survive before we set sail, I
guess he just didn't have the will to carry on, for who really knew what our
future was on this ship. Don't know whether it was the adrenaline or what,
but I was breathtaken at all of the new things I took in along the way. I
couldn't say the same for the other three lads, but wherever we were going, I
was eager to find out.

The Captain took note of this the moment he demanded we take care of the
shit-work around the ship. It wasn't long before the other gnomes were cast
off the deep end of the plank and I was left solely in charge of keeping
everything in tip-top condition. Were I to prove myself, I might one day be
able to earn a spot on the crew that didn't involve a mop and pale. A few
years went by and conditions did not improve for me. Oh, I grew wealthier
every now and then when one of the pirates would grant me a boon from one of
their successful pirating missions, but as far as status was concerned, I
held the shortest straw. One night, while we made port in Seantryn Modan and
the whole crew was asleep, I crept along and took a few necessities and
boarded a small craft and began my journey back west.

I heard picked up a few things along the way, which would ultimately help me
pilot my own ship. I took note of how the Captain studied the weather and
always knew when the seas would grant us favor and when it was going to be a
rough night on deck. To hone my skills though, I would ultimately need to
seek further guidance amongst the forest-dwellers as rumor be told, they know
much about nature and the storms. And its with that in mind, that you find
me, here and now, in and amongst the land lubbers, biding my time and picking
up the necessary skills, and crew, to eventually set sail on my own
adventures.
