Description

A small figure stands here, hair sticking out from his head and behind his ears. Large green eyes peer out from under bushy eyebrows and a bulbous nose sprouts out from his face. His mouth is concentrated into a thin line as if he is constantly concentrating on something. A long scar runs across the front and the sides of his neck. His face and hands are starting to gain more wrinkles as he seems to get older. A odor that smells something like prunes seems to hang about him. He wears various pieces of armor over what seem to be grayish-white linen robes.

Beginnings

Grelgich's past is simple.  He was born a gnome in Galadon to a middle-class 
family.  He was always the type who worked more with his intelligence and 
knowledge than his brawn.  This caused him not to have as many friends as he 
preferred to stay inside and read book after book than go outside and play as 
a child.  The following entries are to be notes about his travels and his 
continuing push for more knowledge.

I have come to realize that my life in this home where my parents live is 
going to have to soon come to an end.  I have finished their entire library 
multiple times, have spoken to everyone in the neighborhood and amassed as 
much knowledge as I can.  What I have figured out is, no matter what type of 
knowledge you gain, there must be a focus.  I think I have figured out what 
I will do to balance out my less physical life with the amount of knowledge 
gained.  I will leave this home that has become increasingly bland to me out 
of lack of interest and pursue the guild of shapeshifters.  This will give me 
the ability to increase my physical forms by changing them eventually while 
still collecting more knowledge of the world.  Also, where better to learn 
more than with people who study magic?

I have become a junior shapeshifter in the Galadon guild.  While I only 
currently know how to cast some smaller spells, I have just recently learned 
to change my head into horns.  I am sure that a gnome running about with horns 
is a very odd thing to see, but as it is, it has been helpful.  I have chosen 
focuses for my magic so that I will learn of certain things.  The only problem 
with choosing these focuses as such is that I will be unable to learn others 
later.  I suppose a small amount of specialization is required sometimes.  I 
have choosen to be defensive in nature first so that I will have the ability 
to move places where multiple things might attack me and I might have the time 
to get away.  For those times when I will need to fight back, I have also 
chosen as a second and more minor focus, offensive ways.  I look forward to the 
knowledge I will gain when I my first new type of form.

I have traveled with many sorts of people as I have been gaining titles within 
the guild of Shapeshifters.  I have gained much knowledge of people and the 
ideas that drive them.  I have watched a assassin obssessed with gems who 
believes because he is who he is, he has a right to tell me what to do and when 
to come to him.  I have met other mages who are selflessly giving themselves to 
another rather than pushing themsleves forward.  I have been turned down by many 
because I did not have a form to change into yet.  But that was before I met 
another assassin, one who stuck with me until I learned a form.  Speaking of 
which, I finally learned to change into the Araile lizard.  It took me sixteen 
titles in the guild, but the insight finally came to me.  It is a good form, one 
that allows me to regenerate my health. I can see strong abilities it will give 
me later.  I also learned to change into a opossum.  It allows me to act dead if 
I need to.  When I have reached the twenty-eighth title in the guild, the 
combination of those two forms and whatever else I learn will be strong indeed.  
Soon, hopefully, I will learn to change into a offensive form as well.

And I have finaly achieved the pinnacle of my guild.  I have learned forms that are 
well suited for me, the crocodile for my final defensive form and the wolverine for 
my final offensive form.  I have joined the Island and become what I feel is a good 
member in the tasks to combat the unbalance.  I have found friends and allies in the 
Island and now my prime goal is to make sure the Balance is kept and continue 
bringing and protecting Magic in the world.  I will also continue my search for 
knowledge and perhaps see if I can find the Lord Twist.

I received a letter from my parents.  First time I have heard from them in some 
time.  I suppose leaving the family in Galadon, pursuing my own wants and needs 
jades them somewhat.  They write that they have heard of me once or twice in what 
I am doing, what I have been trying to do.  They say they are proud of me.  I 
hate to think this, but I am suprised.  I was never much of their prodigal son, 
never wanting to follow in their footsteps.  But they are proud of me, proud of 
standing up and doing what I feel needs to be done, giving my life for a cause.  
I hope to make them even more proud in the future.  I am glad to be one of the
Grovenklime gnomes again.
