Description
With a slim, lithe physique and moving with fluidity and grace, this
felar looks every part the predatory creature of his ancient lineage.
His head, back, arms, legs and paws are covered with dusky beige and
smoky black fur but his face is free of the long hairs and, from a
distance, looks almost hairless. This is not true, however and as you
look closer you can see that it is covered in fur too but this fur is
pale brown, thin and very short, making it almost invisible to look at.
His eyes are a bright green with slits as black as pitch and sitting
just above his box-like muzzle that has a fine displays of long, pale
white whiskers and a small, pale brown nose. Along the two sides
of his muzzle are four long scars that stretch all the way to the far
sides of his head and looking up from them you can see his head is
shaven into a mohawk framed between his ears that twitch and turn,
scanning the surrounding noises.
Lastly you notice his perfectly poised tail covered in the same dusky
beige and smoky black fur but in perfect alternating bands right up
to the black tip that hovers just a few inches from the ground.

The towers burned, the felars revolted and the cat-calls rang out, interspersed with the
howls of the hurt and dying mages that once called themselves 'Masters'.
Elder Bryntag sat back from the flames after his rendition of the 'Tale of Tygrim', the
felar who first raised his claws in anger at his creators and sparked the burning of the
mage towers and the fall of the wizarding order of 'Magnis Maas'.
The same tale is told every year to the yearling cubs to make sure they know what went
before them and to help them understand the costs of their freedom and more importantly
the reasons that magic is forbidden in their tribal pack.
Family and fortune

Grezoosh was one of this seasons mewlings and he sat and listened to Elder Bryntag,
completely absorbed in the tale. His father, a second tier elder, looked on with pride
as Grezoosh and his litter sister Mreza listened on.
At the end of the Tale of Tygrim the mewlings were led past the fire by Grezoosh's father
out into the centre of the village where the rest of the village awaited them in a large
circle that surrounded the Shaman. Each mewling, was made to approach the shaman
and roar their loudest towards her. The shaman would then answer back with what
their future could hold.
Each mewling did as they were told and the murmurs of approval from the watching
villagers and family were heard with each yearlings roar. Mreza's fortune was told to
be that of shaman, a rare thing in any tribe and the crown responded with howls and
applause. Grezoosh was last and hush became almost audible as he approached to
hear the shaman's words as she read the runes before her and listened to his roar.
She paused and looked at him then the runes then him again as she appeared to
wrestle with some thoughts in her head. Villagers began to become uneasy about
how long it has taken and Grezoosh looked to his father questioningly. Just as his
Grezoosh was about to question the Shaman she replied 'Great Warrior of THE
village' and the watching crowd rushed and swamped Grezoosh, hoisting him up
above their heads.
The Shaman's visit.

A month or so after the roaring and rune reading the Shaman came to Grezoosh's hut
to speak with his father. Grezoosh and Mreza were told to let them speak in private
so they did as any youngster would, they snuck around the back to listen to what was
to be said.
They listened as the shaman spoke of clear sight of Mreza and of opaque views of
Grezoosh's future and her consequent hesitation at the ceremony. Grezoosh's
father just nodded as the shaman went on to describe the mixed visions of his
son, the black storm cloud, the black lightning and the power he would amass.
Grezoosh ignored most of it apart from the 'Great Power' part and grinned at his
sister who took the discussion as a warning and saw more danger than glory for
her brother.

The years went by without much incident. Grezoosh and Mreza trained hard with
the warriors as all mewlings did and they had not given much thought to the words
shared by their father and the shaman.
After a very hard training session the mewlings went off into the woods to rest and
play a little by the lake. Competition in training was always fierce but generally all
of the young mewlings knew that it was just competitive on the sands. That is all
but three of the last years mewling who did not pass through the trials and so had
to train with this years litters. They were brutal in training and never lightened up
even afterwards. They went by the names Kenti, Zabiesh and Doth.
As Grezoosh was foretold to be a great warrior of the village where the magi
fear to tread, he was often pitted against the older and stronger fighters to
challenge him suitably. This meant that he often beat the three in training and
got their hackles up against him. In the village this was never an issue but this
was not in the village anymore.
As they all lay in the sun listening to the waters lap up against the rocks a large
and threatening roar rang out around them. Grezoosh sprung to his paws as
quick as he could but he already had to retreat back from the incoming blows
from Kenti and Zabiesh who had gotten hold of bladed spears. He spun away
from a strong thrust and lashed his claws against the face of Kenti and saw a
satisfying gout of blood release from his blow as fur and flesh hung onto his claws.
Pain then seared through his own face as Doth leapt onto his back and grabbed
him by the muzzle and tore his claws back over his face up to his eyes. Grezoosh
acted just quickly enough to save his sight and flung Doth to the ground where
Kenti still writhed, clutching what remained of his jowl.
Grezoosh stole a quick breath before Doth and Zabiesh began to circle him, their
pack sense rising. Grezoosh looked about him for aid but all had fled from the
scene, even Mreza had left him to his fate. He had just clenched his jaw in anger
at his sisters actions when they pounced at him. He moved like molten gold from
a smelting pot as he wove between the spear thrusts and slashing claws of the
first assault and in the second he grabbed Doth by the ears and sunk his teeth into
his neck, tearing out a chunk that he spat into Doth's face. Blood gushed but not
quickly enough as Doth's claws tightened onto the arms of Grezoosh just long
enough to prevent his moving out of the way of Zabiesh's thrust that pushed his
barbed spear into the back of Grezoosh's right thigh.
Attacked continued.

Grezoosh howled in agony as Zabiesh pushed the barbed spearhead further into
his muscle. The sound of Doth's last gurgling breaths mixed with the ripping of
of muscle as the barbed edges forced their way deeper at Zabiesh's behest.
Then one last shot of pain coursed through Grezoosh's body as the haft of the
spear snapped with the force of Zabiesh's bodyweight bearing down on it and
as it snapped the felar, Zabiesh, fell chest first onto the now jagged remains of
the shaft and impaled himself upon it. Grezoosh watched as the light faded from
his assailant's eyes before he too thought it was his time and darkness took him.
Awakenings

It was 6 weeks before conscious thought returned to Grezoosh and he awoke in
his old bed with his father standing over him and his sister stood behind him.
They were pleased to see him wake from the delirium brought on by the fester
in his leg. His leg sill throbbed and he could see it was still well bandaged up.
He tried to sit up and his sister rushed forward to aid him but something took
over inside him and he slapped her paw away with his own, drawing blood as
they connected. She squealed as her father grabbed her by the shoulders and
ushered her away. He turned to look at Grezoosh with eyes that appeared to
be seeing someone for the first time. Grezoosh glared back unabashed by what
he had done, a stony hardness had replaced the tender heart he once had. The
taste of blood and death at such a young age have left their mark.
Bitterness and betrayal.

Grezoosh got about got about with the aid of a crutch and would often spend
his days watching the others train on the sands. His stony heart felt like it
spewed acid as his insides burned with jealousy. He wished he was back in
training, his destiny still to be fulfilled but he was crippled, unable to move
like he used to and a shadow of his former self. Bitter at his loss and trying
to push away his thoughts of betraying all that his tribe have stood for, their
hatred and shunning of all things magical, Grezoosh wrestles with the notions
of using magic like other weak or broken beings have done.
It could see him return to his former glory and fulfil the foretelling of his future
but the risks are high. Getting caught could see him banished or killed.
Grezoosh began to watch for merchant caravans that passed by the village and
in secret he bartered for potions to aid him in combat, to cover his weak leg that
prevents him dodging blows as he used to. Quickness, armor, stone skin and
haste were but a few of those he managed to quaff unnoticed but Mreza was
aware and told the shaman about it.
At the next training session on the sands he was outed and swarmed by angry
villagers who demanded his death, who demanded his head on a spike to act
as a warning to others. Grezoosh accepted his fate and his death now would
assuage some of the dishonour his weakness has brought upon himself and
his family. As he closed his eyes to await the fall of the sword upon his neck
the proceedings were halted by the shaman and Mreza. They spoke to the
gathered crowd and persuaded them that banishment would be best course
of action. Grezoosh's eyes filled with anger and hatred as he glared at Mreza,
who returned his glare with a cool and emotionless gaze but Grezoosh noticed
she coddled the back of her scarred right paw as she watched him as he was
now beaten from the village and banished.
The power of others

Grezoosh has learned through hard knocks and defeats that he is not as strong as
the shaman had thought he would be as a villager of magical hatred. Instead he
has found his battle prowess faltering and his magical knowledge lacking.
He talked with the guildmaster and has positioned himself 'beneath' two giants
of the guild Suttun and Ghurlan, allowing him to go mostly unnoticed and at
best, rewarded by them as they hunt together. The only one he ever thought
himself truly stronger was another cat-kin who twists his body to animal parts
but not fully but even his knoweldge and luck in finding protective magical
rods has led to Grezoosh becoming green-eyed of him too.
Maybe he will, one day become the great warrior but until then he will cower
as he needs to and speak softly to those stronger than he.
Entreated by the Shadows and Darkness

Grezoosh sat wistfully by a shadowed alcove in the Inn of the Eternal Star. Eternal
is but a dream, Infernal is more likely result of mortal endeavour.
As he drank some beer, with rum chaser, he noticed the Shadows in the corner begin to
coalesce into a vague humanoid form. He first thought it was the drink but it soon
became apparent that it was not just the drink, when the Shadow communicated with his
own mind.
When the conversation was done, Grezoosh felt fleeting full of worth after the Shadows
and Darkness entreated him to a spell to shield his body from harm and Kra'zuul the
bloodletting dagger of the shades. He took it as a sign that he could still fulfil
a parallel destinty of greatness and so reached out to the Advisor of the Scions
whom he has a cordial relationship with previously and was amazed at his being
accepted into the fold. If only he had the power of the Advisor he thought as the
doubt and feelings of weakness crept in to him once more.
The Advisor told him to explain what he could bring to the Chasm and how he could
fulfil the prophecy. Grezoosh promised he would write his plans down and send them
via a messenger to the Advisor, with haste.
'A plan, I must produce a plan', he thought as he was left to read the tomes within.
Research and Planning

Grezoosh poured over the texts and tomes in the Libraries of all the great cities including
Hamsah Mutazz's the greatest of all cities. It was only when he had finished reading until
his eyes were sore when blinking, that it occured to him that his plan was looking him right
in the face, his own race was created by magic. Created to be subserviant and obediant as
well as stout, robust and deadly when needed.
All the failures of the previous attempts to link the prime and the shadow planes had ended
badly with the Ccul'gra overrunning in most instances, it was written and well documented.
Grezoosh wishes to stand at the Dawn of the Eternal Night and have a place to remain standing
after the Ccul'gra wash over the lands and destroy the weak and unambitious but he does not
want the complete destruction for what good would that do to him.
The Scholars of the Chasm beholden only the weakest of the Ccul'gra and they are feirce
enough in small numbers. The texts reveal there are many more echelons of the Ccul'gra
and no firm way to fully manipulate them.
His only conclusion was to build a hybrid that could serve as protectors and destroyers.
The races of Felar and Ccul'gra would blend well to make such a species and in sufficient
numbers could help control the lusts of the Ccul'gra at the Dawn of the Eternal Night.
He finished scrawling the ideas and handed the parchment to a messenger who was pleased
to be given a gold coin for the delivery to ensure it was not opened and arrived quickly.
The coin left a black mark on the hand of the young messenger as he slipped it into his
belt pouch. The boy did not know he had but a day to live.
