Description
A behemoth is before you, dull blackened flesh is stretched tightly over his
grotesquely knotted muscles. His massive skull looms over his body, flowing
with thick blackish red hair bound behind his head by what would appear to be
a degloved hand of a small slight creature, the fingers tied into a simple
knot. A rough boney brow nearly hangs over his eye sockets, prominent
eyebrows of thick coarse dark auburn hair further obscure his piercing red
eyes. A look of constant displeasure is etched into his weathered face. Thick
lips are chapped to the point of splitting, they weep with some unsightly
fluid. His blackened teeth have been filed to jagged points, looking just as
painful to himself as to any who he might decide to bite. Enormous fists of
blackened flesh are heavily calloused, he would appear to be no stranger to
physical labor. Thick tree trunk like legs provide a base for this beast that
would appear to only move when he so desires. As you draw closer the acrid
sent of rotting flesh and brimstone invades your nostrils.

His crowned head felt particularly heavily that night. Looking out across the
wilderness King Xerxus felt anxious, a sensation he had not been accustomed
for many years until recent events. Rhythmically gripping the worn hilt of a
large battleaxe his massive frame stood alert and ready, narrowed black eyes
scanned the horizon waiting for the signal that his betrayal of his own rule
and the start of his true legacy for his people had begun.
Four generals, four giants he respected. Xerxus had grown with them, fought
and bled with them. These four now served as the backbone to his small
empire. They had all trained under the sorcerer Zularar and were considered
quite accomplished, possessing many of the souls that once opposed Xerxus.
The lamenting souls of the fallen would prove to be the reason for the
generals demise as Xerxus simply had to acquire them.
Four pulses of light disturbed the dark moonless night, Xerxus realized the
matter must be sewn shut before the ensuing revolt takes hold and chaos swept
across his land. The planning had worked it appeared, great effort was put
forth in order to have all of them assassinated within moments of each other,
lest one catch wind of what would quickly become a clear plan of attack. He
would now move to meet the assassins and collect his prizes.
Fear was not something Xerxus was accustomed to yet he felt it course through
his blood like poison, loaded with the unholy weapons of his fallen brethren
he trudged through the swamp lands to meet the ancient being who he had made
an unforgiving pact with.

Xerxus sought Amreton, a lich that lived in shadow, unknown to the rest of
Thera, he had been broken many centuries before. Lingering in the transient
ether of undead and the shadow plane Amreton had reached out to Xerxus in his
dreams. Impregnating him with the thought of creating an heir, the likes of
which none could have imagined. A giant of fire and ash, a student of
necromancy. The very thought of his child, his very own blood attaining such
power drove Xerxus to betray all he had accomplished during his brutal rule.
Several days would pass, Xerxus was hopelessly lost within the dark quagmire
of rotting vegetation. His massive iron clad boots sunk deeper and deeper
into the muck. Finally his burning muscles gave out, collapsing into the
surface of darkness he felt himself unable to resist the pull into what he
knew would be his grave.
cold unholy laughter filled his ears, with but a single eye not submerged
he saw Amreton levitating beside him. "You have served your purpose Xersus,
within these crudely fashioned blades dwell the energies I require to return
to my former self." The lich stated hastily. "As I have promised you, I will
teach your child the dark arts of Necromancy and Vivisection." In a nearly
amused and mocking tone he continued, "You must have thought you would
witness such events, to swell with pride at what no other of your kind has
managed. Sadly, you will not. This is my experiment, you have simply provided
me the flesh that I shall mold."
Struggling against his own armors that would seal his fate Xerxus felt his
lungs fill with the brackish water, the last thing he heard was the laughter
of Amreton. His last thoughts were of his child Groakus and his only regret,
what had he committed his only heir to?

Crying to himself within a cell Groakus held his frost bitten arm, it had
been a year and Amreton had done nothing but slowly torture the young fire
giant. Hours at a time would pass as he would sit the massive child down,
instructing him to simply remain still, when Groakus inevitably failed a
blinding shock of cold would emanate from the liches clawed hand and punish
the confused child. "You must learn to focus and control yourself, else my
time is wasted and you will die my young student. Your life is of little
concern, while time is but a memory to me I will not allow you to waste it."
The skeletal figure absent mindedly said.
All Groakus wanted was the swift stern backhand of his Father, he missed his
home. The strict simple discipline of Xerxus was something he understood,
even missed. The reality he now lived was foreign to him and frightening.
Years would pass, and lessons of patience would become more complicated.
Groakus did not understand and the goal was never explained to him, he had no
idea what he was being groomed for. Amreton was ruthless, cruel and maniacal
in his method, clearly deriving pleasure from both successes and failures of
young Groakus.
The young giant would grow as did his mind, trapped within a foreboding
quagmire that offered no escape. The pupil, having nothing to compare himself
to, was entirely unaware of his progress into areas of knowledge none of his
race had ever ventured. The mind of the giant was becoming organized in such
a manner as the Lich had never witnessed before within one of his kind. The
progress was slow an repetitive, but with intense formulaic study, guided by
Amreton, there was progress.
Groakus was prone to melancholy as he frequently lamented his Father and past
life that the Lich feared this distraction would ultimately stagnate him,
Amreton cleverly decided to form the study of Necromancy into a series of
tenants of faith. The brute clung to this faith and found purpose in
surviving further days, finally understanding on some level the only escape
was to learn what was set before him.
One day Groakus woke to find himself alone, his teacher was nowhere to be
found, much of the artifacts and various items he had become accustomed too
were gone. Fear of Amreton kept the giant in place for many days, it was not
until he was close to starvation that Groakus decided to venture out. Steps
beyond the enclosure he had lived most of his life he found a scroll with
directions to follow and instructions to deliver the message to one within
the city of Seantryn Modan. In a matter of days Groakus found himself
begrudgingly accepted into the guild of Necromancy. The guildmaster allowing
him entrance only after reading this scroll, written in some foreign script
unknown to Groakus.
