Description

A tall but shapely figure of about fourteen feet tall stands before you, the skin is of pale yellow color mostly, with large white spots here and there. A mature frost giant, obviously. It is barely dressed, with only occasional pieces of equipment on, and therefore is easily identifiable as a male. The hair is short but is quite a mess, as if being cut, but not otherwise cared of. The hair color can hardly be discerned as brown or... blue... or green... or rather cannot be discerned at all. It is rather comb has never touched this head in perceivable past or its owner pays great attention to making his hair color unknown. The face and other visible skin is on the other hand is quite well-kept and accurate, with occasional paintings drawn down on forearms, ribs, legs and, quite spectacularly, face. The few white spots on his skin are skillfully integrated into the paintings, and the paintings themselves are masterpieces depicting the frightful images of demons, beasts or some kinds of abstract figures, which combined make the observer feel uneasy. The giant is covered by the numerous battle scars and bruises. You can also catch a glimpse of somewhat sad look in his eyes, as if he is hopelessly waiting for something, but stays resolute nevertheless. Looking closer, you can also notice that

Role

Father

Added Thu Jan 15 15:30:17 2015 at level 7:
Born in the outskirts of the Frozen Gorge, Zylyg was like many of the other
frost giants dwelling around, born to the family of hunters, destined to
become a hunter himself. Zylyg's father, Gromm, although being an
exceptionally good mountaineer, was quite a solitary one even among his not
particularly friendly kind. The only exception to his lonely brooding attitude
was his son, Zylyg, whom Gromm had grown as his successor, passing to him
all of his skills and experience. Young Zylyg was a good student and became
a promising mountaineer, much like father being able to take on even the
toughest frost mountain game alone. It would not be possible, of course, had
not father helped his son with the skilled warpainting tailored exactly to the
youngster's constitution.

Character

Added Fri Jan 16 11:55:25 2015 at level 7:
As Zylyn was brought up as a solitary wilderness warrior who has to rely
only on his wits and skills, it was no wonder that the natural giants'
affinity towards rage and aggressiveness has thrived most perfectly. Aware
of the power dwelling within the bloodthirsty rage, Gromm has cherished
emotions of anger and rage within his son, believing that it would only
make Zylyn stronger as a savage huntsman. As a result, Zylyn was growing
up as a solitary young man easily susceptible to agressive emotions.
Obviously such a combination could not lead to creating a character fond
of communication with others or at least having some experience of such
communication. Instead, Zylyn has become an easily angered brute, unable
to communicate politely for even a small amount of time because of being
too quickly annoyed and angered with almost any company. A trait that has
become a reason for a turning point to his adventures.

Father's death

Added Fri Jan 16 15:54:54 2015 at level 7:
On one of the many freezing nights, Zylyn was out in the mountains, tracking a
goat through the slopes. After several hours of chase, he finally was able to ambush
the animal and deal a deadly strike with his spear, jumping out of the moss-covered
cleft. Satisified with his accomplishment, he has started to butcher the body, when
Gromm suddenly appeared and started to lecture him on mistakes he had made on
the run. His father has followed and eyed him closely through all of these hours,
able to stay invisible to both goat and himself! Angry at his father for unasked
lecturing, but even more angry at himself for not being able to notice his father,
Zylyn has swinged his spear wildly with a roar at his father. Surely he would not be
able to even touch such an experienced warrior as father was, and he did not. But
dodging the strike, Gromm has slipped on a wet moss and fell into the cleft Zylyn
himself has previously hidden in, falling to his death.

Gromm reborn

Added Fri Jan 16 16:09:48 2015 at level 7:
So there he was, out of anger - a reason for death of his father, unsuccessful
successor to all of Gromm's skills and experience, unable to learn from his
father and thus be his true descendant. The only thing he now could think of
in order for the family hunting lineage not to disappear is not be his father's
descendant, but to replace his father and learn all of the skills by himself,
becoming a hunter like Gromm was, raising a worthy descendant out of his
own future son, Zylyn.

Strange as it was, it was then decided, Zylyn was no more, but young Gromm
was reborn, to become once again a great savage mountaineer and raise a
worthy descendant. The only thing hinting to the past was the lastname
Gromm has taken, Zhyrdagg, meaning 'born anew'.

A lot of game was to be hunted.

The Hunt

Added Sat Jan 31 16:40:23 2015 at level 17:
Several years have passed. Always alone, Zylyg/Gromm has roamed the wilds,
choosing tough prey and honing his skills chasing it. His game was not plenty,
but he did indeed try his best for that game to be worthy of his father's prowess.
He could track a giant boar for weeks, being unable to face it head on like his
father did, he slowly bleeded his preys, taking what was ought to be taken by
persistence and increasing finesse. Therefore prey were fewer, and the time
and skill spent on each significantly exceeded that of other young hunters. And
derived from his focus on quality of the prey he slowly came to understanding
that no matter the intelligence of the prey, a hunt is a hunt. And it was even more
challenging to hunt the two-legged game, as challenging as his father would
prefer. So there he was, hunting to hone his skills so that he could finally become
Gromm as he should have been, not "born anew".

The only exception to a definition of prey were other hunters, whom he oddly
perceived as fellow, no matter their own intentions.

And the more time has passed, the deeper his mind descended into the hunt...
a neverending hunt, which was slowly becoming much like an obsession for him.

Communication

Added Sun Mar 15 07:12:21 2015 at level 37:
Through years of wilderness dwelling, Gromm has gained
vast knowledge of the huntsman profession. While still not
close to his father's prowess, he has learned many nuances
and tricks about hunting. This type of knowledge was quite
specific to the hunter's life he was living, and therefore the
words and terms he used also made much sense only to
the other hunters. While not dumb at all, Gromm found it
difficult to communicate with those who did not possess
hunters' wits, and instead of elaborately giving the details
of his thoughts when talking, Gromm, knowing that those
of non-hunting background would not understand him well,
was forced to simplify his speech to great extent. As others
would not understand his hunting wording, and he did not
have the ability to learn that of common people. Therefore
most popular thing he has said to those who did not dwell
in the wilds was "Gromm hunt". When speaking to other
hunters - he was able to explain himself well.

Thar-Eris

Added Sun Mar 29 04:21:55 2015 at level 46:
Much time has passed since the death of his father.
Gromm has learned a lot, hunted many. What Gromm
did not was hunting on the civilized grounds, rarely
did he step into the cities or roads. Having to choose
his path carefully not to be seen by the citydwellers
has set a great deal of anger within him. Those roads
and cities have tampered with his need to hunt where
he wanted, making his hunter learning much worse
than he thought it would be otherwise. How could he
become like his father if he was not able to hunt
enough because the wilds were cut by the roads and
buildings?

That was the primary reason for his anger for civilization.
It was not the civilization itself he loathed, but the
fact that he could not hunt in its borders. But the anger
towards civilization itself has made him closer to the
outlanders of Thar-Eris. Little did Gromm know of Tree,
but being still a youngster, he sought Liantae Kard
en' Liante, asking to join the reavers to lessen the
hold of civilization over Thera. He was given task to find
three rocks with writings of Thar-Eris.

He definitely was not going to fulfill the task. He was
a hunter of living game, not hunter of rocks, or so he
thought to himself. He dropped the idea to joining
reavers because of a silly task assigned to him and
continued to learn his hunting skills.

Years later, when he was already skilled enough to
confront Liantae herserlf (though the outcome would
unlikely be in his favor), Liantae herself has contacted
him in order to strengthen the reaver branch. Gromm
has agreed to join, ultimately becoming one of the
reavers.

It was, however, clear for him, that he did not heed
the Ancients' creed deep in his heart, but sought
the Tree as a mean to strengthen his hunting skills
and widen his hunting grounds.

Abandoning the darkness

Added Sat May 9 19:21:17 2015 at level 51:
More years has passed, Gromm was over 220, spending his life
in a neverending hunt, be it animals, men, those of light,
darkness, chaos or order, was no matter for him, as long as
it served his purpose of becoming a greater hunter, worthy
of his father's name. During his hunt and battles as a reaver
he has encountered a hunter whom he was no match for - a gnome
who dwelled in Redhorn mountains, Corzu. Through the years,
many times have Gromm crossed his maces with Corzu, and not
even once emerged victorious. Apparently his hunting skills
were far superior to those of Gromm.

Through many encounters with the Fortress, both Adesoka and
Corzu, by that time the leaders of the Redhorn warriors, came
to know that it was hunt that Gromm longed for the most, and
although dark was his heart by their standards, his actions
in many cases were not. It was after the hunt in Redhorn, where
Gromm have aided the Maran brigade in killing Xeneth, the
Emperor of Thera, that Gromm offered Corzu to test his hunting
skills against him once again and failed again. Angry at himself
for yet another failure, he has opened himself to Corzu, stating
that the rate of him learning the hunt is too slow, considering
his apparent inability to outmatch the little gnome. Little is
known of the reasons, but after the battle Corzu has proposed
to teach Gromm of the hunt if only he "abandoned his dark ways".

Never did Gromm considered himself evil or dark, it was but
the harsh wilds of the Frozen Wastes and hardships of his life
that made him ruthless and merciless. And for Gromm, if it was
necessary to become less brutal and savage in order to learn
the greater ways of hunting, then so it should have been one.
Little did he know as to how to change his very nature, but
Corzu himself offered Gromm to seek the aid of Baerinika the
Pure, who once made the very similar change to his own soul.
Gromm said he would do so, as it was hunt and reaching the
highest peaks of the hunting skills that filled his thoughts
above all other.

Longing for the hunt

Added Sat May 16 14:03:54 2015 at level 51:
However Gromm tried to fulfill the promise he has given
to Corzu, it was not destined to be. However he did indeed
stop hunting those of light for the purpose of getting the
good will of Corzu and Baerinika, he felt himself obliged
in assisting other reavers when they have battled warriors
of the Fortress of Light. On one of the occasions, when
he stated that he would heal reavers, but not otherwise
take part in the battle, he was confronted by Pon and
Liantae to reveal the reasons. When learning of his agreement
with Corzu, both of them ensured Gromm that it was nothing
but a tactical lie by the Marshal in order to remove one
of the reavers from the battlefield, making it much easier
to trample the wilds.

Considering that the other Marans did not stop assauting
Gromm himself, adding to his anger on the matter, it was
easy for him to believe Nightreaver and revert his attitude
towards Corzu. By that time though, Corzu himself was not
willing to teach Gromm no matter the reasons, as Gromm has
striken him down with Liantae. What Gromm considered a wild
hunt on a warrior who himself was hunting him first, Corzu
perceived as assault on Light, thus seeing Gromm as a
traitor. Soon their short talk happened, where both accused
each other of lies, and ceased further communication.

The good chance to learn secrets of the hunt has escaped
Gromm, and he felt both Marans and Outlanders of Thar-Eris
were responsible. Marans - by being stalwart on evil and
ruining his chance of building a bond with his would-be
teacher, and Outlanders - by making it inevitable for him
to infuriate Corzu by siding with other reavers on a field
of battle. Considering there were no elder huntsman in the
Refuge to teach him, Gromm now started to feel that being one
of Thar-Eris hampers, not helps him learning hunt. Thus he
started paying more attention to his own matters, and stopped
going wild around towns like he did before, hoping that
this experience would give him strength to hunt in unfamiliar
places.

Going through the experience, though still so far one of the
reavers, he turned back to what he once was, fulfilling his
own will of becoming a great hunter, which he still was not,
and having little to no regard to other matters.

Warm time and Jormyr

Added Fri May 22 14:04:37 2015 at level 51:
As the cold years passed, the frost giants started to abandon
their places, moving somewhere more cold for their liking. The
same went for Gromm, who started feeling uneasy in the warming
environment. However becoming much stronger than before, he was
still no hunter he aspired to be, and felt that it was not yet
his time to leave. Thus he decided to stay even in the warmer
period. But to do that, he had to protect himself against the
coming warmth, otherwise his body would give up on him too
quickly.

First, he started spending much more time in the few frozen
areas, bathing in the snow, basking in the blizzards, drawing
upon the eternal cold's strength in order to build up his
strength to resist upcoming worth.

And second, it was apparent to him that no other but the
god of his kin, the greatest of frost giants, Jormyr, the
Infinite Helyx, could give him strength to resist the warmth
that was fending off other frost giants. Little did he know of
Jormyr other than he was, as well, a frost giant, and thus a
frost giant god. And so his worship began, both savage and
ignorant.

The great huntsman

Added Tue Jun 2 14:47:42 2015 at level 51:
Finally after the long months of hunting and training, Gromm has
achieved what he long sought for - he lay a trap and defeated
another great hunter - Corzu, whom he sought as his superior at
the art of the Hunt. Being a ghost, Corzu has expressed sadness
that Gromm has never spoken to lady Baerinika and said that she
might still be willing to talk. But Gromm had no need for such
already, as he has defeated the person he thought would teach him,
and therefore, surpassing the would-be teacher, had no more need
for his teachings.

It has now become apparent to Gromm that through the years he has
become one of the greatest hunters on all of Thera, the immature
paintings of his has long become great masterpieces, his inability
to talk well to those not skilled in the hunt has long since faded.
He has become, or even exceeded what his father once was, finally
he was worthy of Gromm's name, and has truly become Gromm.

He no further had any need for the Refuge where he has learned some
of the hunt, not that he cared for any of the outlanders, but rather
perceived them as his prey, clouded by their allegiance with the
Ancients, not living to their own desires. Living in the wilds, but
relying only on the ancients in doing so. He was now off for his
own hunt, alone much like his father was, waiting for his kin to
come back so that he could teach his own future son what he knew
of the hunt. And perfecting his skills further.

New Hunt begins

Added Wed Jun 3 16:53:52 2015 at level 51:
The new Hunt begins
The moment Gromm has decided to leave the Tree in search for greater opportunities
to hone his hunting skills, a chromatic flame of the Ancients visited him, clearly
unhappy with the path he had chosen for himself. The images Ancients have filled
Gromm's mind with showed him the concequences of his decision, and guided him that
there was no other he could learn the hunt from rather than the Ancients themselves.
It has become apparent to the giant that his wish to search for Jormyr was foolish,
considering he has spent so many years near the Ancients themselves, yet never even
thinking about asking for their help in his Hunt. He was now beginning to understand
the depth of insult he has given to the reaver Ancients, during all of the years of
drawing from their strength, yet giving so little in return.

The Ancients have guided him to his next prey - Jermet Arman'thur, th ehorrible wight,
abomination to Thar-Eris. And so Gromm was set on his new, greater hunt.
