Description
Janitorial implements dangle adjacent the soiled polishing rag upon
the worn belt of Grumpleton Junglesocks, the moonlight expeditionary
enthusiast. While the majority of these implements are common, there
are a few small handcrafted improvements as he employs the knowledge
he has unearthed in his recreational conquests. A genuine curiosity
is apparent by his demeanour as his inquisitive gaze falls softly on
his surroundings, as they search for any oddities that may result in
his next adventure. Somewhat odd, his attire appears to be tailored
specifically for his work and cut from a durable yet flame retardant
cloth that makes it perfect for the many aspects of his complicated
life. He has chosen the traditionally blues of the janitor, allowing
it to match his pensive mood that is summoned during his obligations
to his trade and family reputation. A slight perspiration adorns his
brow as a tribute to his hardworking and meticulous nature, his blue
jumpsuit unbuttoned slightly to reveal bold and adventurous clothing
hidden just beneath the surface of the image he portrays.

Mysteries of the Mopping Pool

Grumpleton was tireless. Cleaning. Scrubbing. Mopping. He did it all
with a sincerity and attention to detail that made him the best at
what he did.
And what did he do, you ask?
He was a janitor. Dressed in his blue jumpsuit with his utility belt
strapped firmly around his skinny little waist, he was more than just
a little bit amusing to behold. But it didn't bother him, ever since
he left Hillcrest as a part-time cleric, he had been searching for an
income that would sustain his mediocre studies into herbology.
So he mopped floors. Cleaned up spills. Polished bar tops. And above
all else - he listened. He listened to the glorious adventures of all
the patrons that frequented the Inn, dreaming himself of the day he
would find the courage to have one of these dastardly things himself.
An adventure!
So he came up with an idea. He would create himself a fearless alter
ego to brave the Theran wilderness and have these adventures for him.
He rummaged through his humble belongings until he found that horrid
pair of Yuletide socks his mother had sent him two seasons ago. They
were plastered with safari animals and jungle scenery but he put them
on without hesitation and gave life to a new side of himself.

And our hero did not hesitate, he scrutinised the damp mopping floor
beneath him and decided it was more than just a murky pond. It was in
fact, a detailed map! It chartered the footsteps while cataloging the
evidence collected by the footprints of those who had passed through.
It was pure genius.
And what did we have here? Ysigrath mire. Black dragon blood. A shard
of bone from a tribal axe. It had all the key ingredients for a grand
adventure!
And there was nobody better suited than Grumpleton Junglesocks.
Monsters in the Dark

His first adventure was a disaster. Bitten by mosquitoes. Constricted
by swamp pythons. Not to mention the simple and obvious fact that he
was about the be devoured by the Sz'Weh.
So our hero was in a pickle. He was cold and alone, stuck in a prison
of his own devising and was wondering what the heck possessed him to
do something as foolish as go on an adventure. Sighing to himself, he
rolled down his soiled blue trousers to cover those gaudy Junglesocks
and came to the realisation that he was going to be lunch.
Or was he?
There's a spark that comes to those who endeavour to have adventures
and make the most of their lives on Thera. It is known by many names,
but to Grumpleton it would be known by two things. Firstly, it would
come to be known to him as Joihe the Adventurer - but we will cover
that aspect of his life later.
Secondly and arguably almost as important. He discovered a superpower
that lived in him all along. It turns out he was no longer scared, on
the contrary - he had never felt quite so alive! Under the threat of
death and his ultimate destruction he actually became more than twice
as bold and approximately ten times as brave.
Hours later he would be seen emerging from the swamps. Unholy symbol
delivered to Ghyss, an honorary pair of lichen gloves and a pack full
of treasure and mystical implements discovered behind a loose panel
in the very room he was being held captive.
What can we say?
Grumpleton Junglesocks was getting the hang of this adventure thing.
Grumpleton Junglesocks (Summary)

Grumpleton Junglesocks was created as an alter ego to a rather plain
and simple gnome. When he rolls up his trousers to reveal his gaudy
Junglesocks to the world - we know it's time for adventures.
He was born under the sphere of Revelation. This gives him a curious
mind that is always looking for answers to riddles and mysteries that
plague him. This is an integral part of his personality as he often
tinkers and improves his tools and theorises new herbal combinations
that would have been considered taboo.
Migrating from Hillcrest, he has taken on the employment of a janitor
to pay for his tutelage in herbology and clerical studies. He has two
goals here, to become a fully endorsed guild healer and to gain work
at the Eternal Star so he can be at the grand hub of Theran adventure.
He will worship Joihe - the Patron of Adventurers and excitement with
hopes that one day he will learn to be bold and brave like Grumpleton
Junglesocks, and finally have adventures of his own.

Bargains by Bonfire

Just jump off a waterfall. How hard could it be?
"One... Two..."
Grumpleton paused, took a deep breath and began to prepare all over
again. This time he would jump, there was no doubt about it! Our hero
bent down and purposefully rolled up his trousers, revealing those
hideously gaudy pair of jungle-themed socks to the world.
Now he was ready for anything!
He didn't even need to count himself in. He jumped, fell, tumbled and
cartwheeled down the waterfall only to emerge completely unscathed
and bone dry, gripped by tendrils of mana that tore him straight from
the hazardous depths of the water and deposited him before a rustic
lodge that beckoned him with an eerie sense of deja-vu and belonging.
Confident, he strode inside to discover Joihe waiting for him outback
by the bonfires. Introductions were made and they chatted before the
fire like haggling merchants or long lost companions until a bargain
was struck. Joihe would empower Grumpleton as a means to sponsor him
upon his adventures under the promise of three things:
Socks. Stories. Trinkets.
So she asked him about his faith, his priesting, his dreams and plans
for the future. And when she was satisfied, she imparted her power to
him.
From the very top of his head, right down to his Junglesocks.
Where the Mountain Soars

Our hero stood at the pinnacle of his guild which somehow physically
and poetically coincided with a mountaintop. The heavy slobbering and
insatiable hunger of Ubba came from his immediate left as he thought
about his most recent accomplishment that overshadowed staying out of
the stomach of Thera's newest orc chieftain.
He'd just made the journey from mop to top. Cleaning his way across a
multitude of taverns and inns to earn his tutelage and fund his drive
for adventures. Slowly and surely, his personas began to merge into a
singular being of personified adventureisms.
He still mopped floors, don't get me wrong. But no he did it in style
with evidence of his conquests and discoveries brightening up his old
blue jumpsuit. His ears constantly straining for rumours whispered
from curious lips as he hunted for his next grand adventure!
So keep this in mind, if you're passing an unsuspecting tavern. There
you might find our newly realised hero. His trousers rolled up high,
and his gaudy socks proudly on display for the world to know that the
expeditionary enthusiast Grumpleton Junglesocks was here to stay.
And Thera's adventuring scene would never be the same again.
Editors note: Grumpleton's brave alter ego has inevitably merged with
him and the mild mannered adventure-fearing janitor has begun to fade
into a distant memory.
