Description
Before you stands a small, demonic-looking creature. It has the general
shape of a goblin, with large bat-wing-like ears, a hairless, narrow head,
and tiny eyes that dart under a heavy brow ridge. It is truly a hideous
creature, far more-so than most goblins. But this goblin, if indeed that is
what this creature is, looks nothing like any other goblin you have seen.
Its skin is reddish, smooth, and shiny. Little bony spikes emerge from its
brows and chin, and it has larger bony protrusions at its shoulders and
elbows. The creature is dressed in a patchwork of armor, and jewelry adorns
its fingers and ears. Strapped about its gear are various potions, vials,
pouches, and weapons. The creature's head darts about in a jerky fashion as
it takes in all around it.
Role
A cursed child
Added Tue Dec 27 21:04:24 2022 at level 6:
"It is cursed!" the goblin shaman shieked, as she recoiled
from the squirming infant that had just dropped from its
mother, covered in blood and putrid filth.
The infant was horrifically ugly even by goblin standards, with
pale, loose skin and a narrow, lizard-like face upon which
were embedded tiny reddish eyes that seemed to focus on
everything too sharply. But it was not the baby's
appearance that had troubled the shaman. She had sensed a
curse upon the child's soul.
"Throws it into the pit!" the shaman declared. And so they did.
For days, the child lay in the pit amongst the waste of the
goblin village. It would not die. Four days after casting it
down, the shaman looked in to see the baby had crawled halfway
up the embankment, and she used her walking staff to shove it
back down. Three days after that, the shaman checked to see if
the cursed thing had yet died, but found the child gone. A
man of the village found it, huddled against a tree, eating the
rotting corpse of a squirrel that had apparently died of natural
causes.
It was a sign.
"The cursed child shalls lives," the shaman proclaimed. "I names
this child Grungelglut, mean 'Foul Curse' in tongues of old
ancestors. He shall bees a curse to enemies, yes, as he be
curse to ussses as wells."
The shaman whacked the child with her walking stick, and the
newly christened Grungelglut turned briefly to hiss at her
through already long, sharp teeth.
Goblin clan information
Added Wed Dec 28 23:06:13 2022 at level 14:
Name: Hulgrekik
Location: South of Galadon, Goblin Village
Clan goals: Legends tell of a great goblin leader who will one day destroy the
city of Galadon and return the territory to the Goblins of the Silverwood.
Goblins spend much of the time hiding, trying to recover between adventurer attacks.
They long to return the battle to the "colonizers".
Hulgrekik legends tell of a great Goblin hero who will destroy Galadon and
return the land to he goblins of the Silverwood. This goblin will unite the Silverwood
clans, bringing peace to the warring factions.
The legend (prophesy of a goblin shaman) tells that the great hero will be an
outcast of the clan, one marked by blood of another plane. Several
goblins have met the criteria, but none have lived up to the prophesy.
Grungelglut is the latest.
The cursed champion
Added Wed Dec 28 23:25:27 2022 at level 14:
Grungelglut (also known as "Grungel" or simply "Curse" was indeed
a curse to both his clan and his enemies. It seemed wherever Grungel
went, misfortune followed. Grungel is asked to help build a hut? The
hut somehow burns down, despite Grungelglut's best efforts. Asked to
help hunt? The hunting party is somehow slain, Grungel the only
survivor.
Eventually, the clan stopped asking Grungelglut to do anything, the
shaman declaring that the gods would guide the cursed one. Grungel
proceeded to eat and sleep and gamble with not a care in the word.
The gods did not intervene.
Finally, a young goblin raider decided to take the cursed one under
his protection, believing the proclimatyion of the shaman that the
curse would impact the clan's enemies as well as the clan itself.
This proved to be the case! Grungel was not always the best hunter
or best fighter, but his... misfortune seemed to convey to combat.
Enemies would also befall the curse, falling to strange events not
always the credit of Grungel's battle prowess.
It was declared that Grungel was the chosen one. The one who would
bring about the destructiion of the city to the north. But in this
destruction, he would be alone, for otherwise his curse would damn
the clan as well.
Character traits
Added Wed Dec 28 23:33:30 2022 at level 14:
* Entirely selfish creature. May give reverence to something/someone one moment if it suits him,
strike out against that same thing another moment if it suits him.
* CURSED! Stricken with ancestral curse, each time this curse is inflicted, Grungel will stop
whatever he is doing to writhe in pain and cry out. This will happen until the source
of the curse (demonic blood) is brought forward as an edge.
* Demonic blood: Somewhere in his lineage is demonic blood. This is the true source of his
"curse." It will eventually also be a strength... if he lives that long.
* He believes he is supposed to lead his clan, though his clan is not convinced.
Outside the Village
Added Mon Jan 16 02:29:53 2023 at level 32:
Grungelglut has now been far outside of his village and the Silverwood, and
though he still wants to destroy the city of Galadon eventually... perhaps
there is more out there to be concerned with. What power can he grab,
treasures can he find, that will bring him glory and prestige in his clan?
Grungel does not know, but he intends to find out.
Grungel has met in particular Lultrin, an Imperial necromancer. Lultrin killed
Finx, Grungel's only real friend up to that point, but spared Grungelglut's
life even though he could easily have killed him. Grungel is grateful, and
sees Lultrin as a powerful one in the world, something of a master to serve
for the purposes of being there to get the table scraps. Lultrin has treated
Grungel well, and has taught him things. Grungel will continue this beneficial
relationship in any way possible, and serve at Lultrin's whim for now.
Finx the Minotaur continues to be Grungel's friend, and Grungel looks up to
him as a great leader. Leadership is everything to Grungelglut. He will join
Finx at every opportunity, even though he often doesn't understand what Finx
is saying. Though Finx is his friend, he will not stay and die in battle for
Finx. He has run from several fights, leaving Finx to die.
Grungel sees his power growing, and is becoming the best raider in the
village. But the clan has not acknowledged him as their clan leader! Why?
Grungel does not know, probably because they hate him and have always hated
him. He is cursed and ugly and not a good hunter. But he will show them all,
and one day they will acknowledge him as the clan leader.
Grungel leaders now!
Added Mon Jan 16 15:57:25 2023 at level 32:
Grungelglut rode his majestic fighting spider through the Silverood on his way
to the village, when a younger goblin raider popped out of the underbrush.
Looking at Grungelglut insolently, the raider said, "Stupid troll! Rymagar is
our real leader!"
Grungel flew into a rage! "RYMAGAR! RYMAGARS!" Grungel shouted. "GRUNGEL
HATES!"
He changed direction, heading instead to the deep part of the forest where the
hunter, Rymagar, made his den, hiding there in the woods rather than taking
the fight back to the adventurers from the north. Grungel stomped through the
branches, climbing down to Rymagar's hidey hole. There he found the coward,
grinning and smirking in all of his overrated glory.
"Why you hides here in hole while village be slaughtered? Why you no give
Grungel title, leadershipses, NOTHINGS!? WHY?"
Rymagar continued to look at Grungel, finally only saying, "You can't have the
lily! Is mine!"
"What that means? WHAT THAT MEANS!?" Grungel responded. Rymagar had no answer,
continuing to smirk and sway and if Grungel was not even there. Grungel struck
the hunter down, then cut his body into chunks. He keeps one on him now, as
proof of his victory. He took Rymagar's bow back with him to the village,
placing at the feet of the veteran raider.
"Grungel leaders nows!" Grungel told the vet. The vet looked at Grungel
calmly. "You tells other raiders! Grungel leades nows! Grungel leads village
to strikes at Galadons some day soons!"
The veteran raider calmly nodded, not giving Grungelglut any sign of
agreement, only that he heard. Grungel got back onto the back of his giant
spier, and sped off to gain more power to gain the acknowledgement of the clan
that he rightfully deserved!
Warchief Grungel
Added Thu Jan 19 21:53:32 2023 at level 39:
Grungelglut has declared himself "Warchief of the Silverwoods Clanses"
After the refusal of his clan to recognize him as a leader, despite his
besting of Rymagar, Grungel met the orc Greldra who refused to speak to him
because he had "turned his back on the clan." Grugel explained that he was
of the Silverwood clan, and had turned his back on nothing. Greldra
acknowledged that the Silverwood clans are not part of the Grinning Skulls
and that they also need to come into their own. Grungel said he would one
day be the leader of the clans, and could make an alliance with the Grinning
Skulls. Greldra seemed interested, on the condition Grungel on the condition
that Grungel would come when needed. He agreed. This opportunity arose soon
enough, when the Outlanders raided the orcs. Grungel came as promised and
slew the Felar warrior, Zkrokch, making good on his promise.
In addition, the Dark-elf Czernish introduced Grungelglut to the religion of
Lord Morius, of whom Grungel had never been aware. The religion appealed to
Grungel immediately, as a possible means of getting the recognition, power,
and prestige he feels he deserves. He had visited the church several times
and had read the books, hoping to one day speak to the Lord himself and be
brought into the fold.
Meanwhile, Grungel has achieved far more than any of the other goblins in
his clan, or any of the Silverwood clans. He slew the most powerful other
clan members, keeping trophies of them in a pouch to prove his victories. He
is now going to the other goblin outposts to do the same, with the goal of
uniting the goblin clans (with him as warchief, of course). He uphold the
alliance with the orcs as well, as warchief, for now... though perhaps the
orcs will bend the knee as well, Grungel thinks.
A curse transformed
Added Fri Jan 20 02:38:11 2023 at level 40:
As Grungelglut felt his power growing, suddenly the boiling of blood and
wracking pains that had randomly assaulted him since birth struck once more,
this time more intensely than ever before! He writhed on the ground, feeling
like his entire body was on fire. His mind was filled with images of dark
creatures and fiery canyons. He blacked out, vaguely aware that he was
screaming, his voice small in his own ears.
When he came to, his body was... different. The flaky, bleeding skin he had
always been afflicted with was now smooth, shiny, reddish. It felt hard
somehow, dense. He felt his face, only to find small, horn-like protrusions on
his brows and chin. More bone spikes protruded from his shoulders and elbows.
His other overall dimensions were the same, but the way his body felt was
completely new.
The prophesy of his village foretold a goblin with otherwordly heritage.
Several goblins had been born under the curse, but none had ever lived up to
the prophesy. Grungel was now sure, if he had not been before, that HE was the
foretold goblin! For what was this transformation if not the manifestation of
demonic heritage? Surely NOW the clans would see that he was the one foretold,
and lift him up as their leader!
As he had this thought, a wave of that old feeling passed over him again: the
boiling of blood, a vast heat rising within him. But rather than double him
over in pain as it always had, he felt... amazing. Powerful. The curse he had
been born with, that had plagued him for so long, had it seemed become a
strength rather than a weakness. What could a goblin with this type of power
achieve? Grungel did not know, but he could not wait to find out.
(game note: upon gaining the "Demon in the Woodpile" edge, the terms of the
curse as outlined in role entry 4 have been fulfilled)
Clan finally acknowledges Grungelglut
Added Sat Jan 21 20:10:03 2023 at level 40:
Grungelglut rode into the Goblin Village atop a great warg, its shining teeth
dripping. As he rode, the goblins of the village peeked their heads out of the
huts, observing the partially-demonic, red-skinned form of the goblin they had
once shunned and now feared. None dared approach. The guards of the village
stepped back to allow Grungelglut passage as he rode the warg slowly and
calmly through the center of the village toward the cave where the most
powerful goblins called home. He looked with smirking disdain upon the
familiar faces of the goblins he had grown up with, who shunned and bullied
him, and were now so beneath his station.
Grungelglut made his way into the cave, the heat of the forest giving way to
the cold dampness of the underground. His eyes glowed with a dull red light in
the darkness, a gift of his demonic heritage. Grungel rode the warg straight
through the halls, past goblins and gaping orcs, to the village shaman. She
was the same shaman who had declared Grungelglut cursed and had him thrown
into the garbage pit all those years ago. She was old now, hunched and
slow-moving, but her eyes shone with a sharp clarity.
"Grungel comes now for shamans to declares Grungel chosen goblins from
prophesies!" Grungelglut said, dismounting his great warg.
"Prophesy say Great Goblin will free village from city to norths," The shaman
replied. "Has Cursed One done so?"
Grungelglut looked suddenly furious, shouting, "How Grungel frees goblinses
with no helpses?! Villages not follows Grungel when Grungel raidses! Grungel
tries! Grungel killses! Grungel must be Warchiefs, leads goblinses destroy
cities!"
The shaman recoiled from Grungelglut's outburst, and more-so from his glowing
eyes that glowed brighter as his anger flaired. "Village not declare warchiefs
for generations," she said. "War clans to east crushes Silverwoods clans if
declare warchiefs, Grungelglut knows this."
Grungelglut pulled a small pouch from his belt and tossed it to the cave floor
in front of the shaman. It landed with a wet slap. The shaman opened it, and
pulled out the contents. It was filled with strips of meat, each labeled with
the rude runes of the goblin language. These were trophies: Rymagar, Viek
(leader of the northern goblin outpost), the Mayor of Galadon, and the veteran
raider who trained Grungelglut.
"Grungel wills defeats war clans, unifies the goblinses! Then can strikes
Galadons! Declare Grungel warchiefs!" Grungel drew his sword, and the shaman
saw that she might soon join the trophies in Grungelglut's pouch.
"Shaman declares Grungelglut is now new titleses! Grungelglut the Cursed,
Warchiefs of Silverwoods Clans!"
Grungelglut rode from the village, a new sense of pride in his heart.
Defeating the war clan would not be easy, however, and he could not do it
alone.
Morius and Raiding
Added Fri Jan 27 21:44:37 2023 at level 40:
Grungelglut, interpreting the teachings of Lord Morius as outlined in the book
"The Vitiatic Faith," had taken a stance of taking anything he wants, and if
not strong enough to do so yet doing anything he can to gain enough power to
then take it. To that end, he has continued his campaign to dominate the
goblin clans and seize control for himself. He wishes to be known as the
Warchief of all goblin clans, a great unifier, for the purposes of getting all
of the rewards, favors, and other benefits he feels he deserves.
He has not yet defeated the Warclaw clan to add their leaders to his pouch of
trophies. But he knows he will do so soon, if he can get enough help. He is
always helpful to those he meets who he feels can help him get to this goal.
Alliances will be necessary to achieve it, as the Warclaws are too strong with
him alone.
Grungel has declared formal war on the city of Galadon, having the Heralds
disburse a missive for him announcing his role as Warchief of the Silverwood
clans. In the missive, he demanded tribute in order for lives to be spared. He
has begun "raids" on the city, slaying the residents and leaving their remains
throughout the streets. Is actually destroying the city were possible and
would bring him glory, he would do so. But for now, his goal is mostly to
elevate his status and hopefully get some tribute.
Religion is Confuses!
Added Sun Jan 29 18:47:45 2023 at level 40:
Grungelglut had returned to the Church of Lord Morius many times, hoping to
one day meet the Lord as described in the first chapters of the Book of the
Vitiatic Faith. But he never felt a divine presence there. When Czernish had
taken him to the church, she had explained that one area was off-limits. But
as Grungel became more frustrated, he decided to invade this area. Why was he
being excluded when he had followed all of the teachings. WHY?!
Grungel made his way into the inner sanctum of the church, finding there much
riches and opulence. He found there people living in luxury, some with many
possessions or other things Grungelglut wanted. He decided to take them! In
particular, one Drow man had many trophies and gems. Grungel attacked the man,
hoping to wrest them from him and take the things for himself. But the Drow
was too strong. Similarly, a Felar with a stack of items that might have been
of value. But the Felar was also too strong. Grungelglut had to finally admit
that these people were too powerful (for now) for him to take from, and he
slinked from the church.
When he discussed this event with Czernish later, she told him he had been
very foolish. But it was Czernish herself who had told him that if he saw
something he wanted, he should take it! Religion in the Goblin Village was
simple: the shaman tore the guts out of a bird or squirrel, and divined the
will of the gods through the shape of the entrails. But it seemed that
religion in the outside world was very confusing indeed.
Grungel the Conqueror
Added Fri Feb 3 01:40:25 2023 at level 40:
Grungelglut had put off attacking the War Claws clan for a very long time, as
help was never available to him when he needed it, regardless of how many
people he had helped to gain influence. He had practiced his battle skills
while he waited, however, and he had grown quite confident with the bow. So,
he decided to test himself against their defenses. He would either prevail or
fall. He did not want to retreat from these goblins, knowing he would lose
their respect forever.
Grungelglut fought his way into the outpost, slaying their raiders, their
alchemist, their drillmaster. Finally, Grungel faced off against the champion
himself, ruler of the War Claws. The champion's tusks thrust impressively from
his jaws, and he snarled as Grungelglut made his way into his cavern,
Grungel's form silhouetted in the cave entrance as he made his way out of the
desert heat riding his loping battle warg.
"Grungel comes to dominate War Claws clanses!" Grungel said. "Grungel is
warchiefs now!"
"Then come, whelp!" the champion sneered. "You Silverwoods scums has never
been worth half a muck."
The two goblins struggled, one small, fast, and half-demonic. The other large,
strong, and possibly cross-bred with an orc. Grungel spurred his warg forward,
bounding from the cavern walls as he fired arrow after arrow. The champion
closed the distance, hacking with his legendary axe. But in the end, Grungel's
warg ended the battle with his jaws clamped around the champion's throat. It
was over.
Grungelglut cut a strip of flesh from the corpse of the champion, using his
preservative powder to keep it fresh. This would be the final addition to his
trophies, proof that he alone dominated the goblins in all of Thera. When he
looked up, he saw two young goblin women huddled against the wall watching
him. Grungel strode over and grabbed one roughly. Pulling her to him, he
kissed her mouth, nicking her lower lip with his sharp teeth. When he pushed
her away, she looked at him with awe and fear.
"Tells the others Grungel was heres. Tells them Grungel is warchiefs now.
Warchiefs of all Goblinses clanses."
