Description
The real tragedy in this world is that some people still reproduce,
but then it has been said that the gods must have a sense of humor.
This arial was born under those misaligned stars, for her
face has a strange pattern of white feathers around each eye
and a crooked beak as though it was knocked off-kilter at a young age.
The rest of the feathers on her head are a mottled grey and white with a
smattering of black, but she looks as though she is molting:
splotches of dimpled pink skin are visible in places, and elsewhere
feathers are ruffled like she has recently been plucked.

Evolutions regarding Magic
Added Sun Mar 26 14:58:08 2017 at level 37:
Mages are not to be trusted.
This maxim bears a truth, but reality has shown Guais Silverpreen
that to adequately explore her studies, she needs to understand
and utilize not only magical supplies but also mages. For that
reason, Guais has traveled with mages in whom she has a limited
measure of trust, those sworn to the Blood Tribunal, but no others.
Additionally, she has begun taking inventory of magical supplies
that could be usable in her field studies of terror. She presently
suspects that becoming adept at scroll use--something quite inconceivable
to her after the incident in the High Tower of Sorcery--might be
instrumental in the design and construction of her terror architecture.
(Role 1) The Shadow Grove
Added Tue Mar 28 17:49:17 2017 at level 42:
At an early age, Guais felt the urge to push into the forbidden,
and as she explored the shadowy corners of her own existence,
she acquired over time the soft step of the assassin, the light
touch of a thief, and the prying eyes of a spy. Where others might
fear the shadows, she crept in with wide eyes and wonder, and so it is no
surprise that when she felt the chilling warning of her good sense
she clenched her beak and pushed into the Shadow Grove.
Slipping through the dark trees, eventually she saw the tower rising
before her, and meeting a few of its fellows, she posed as an apprentice
and made herself at home. Over time, however, she grew hungry, and so
with little aplomb she strode into the kitchen and tried to pinch a bite
to eat. A cook caught her with her hand hovered over a meat pie, and a hard
crack of a spoon sent the little girl's head careening into a wooden table.
The last word's she heard before darkness overcame her were, ''Those are
for the lords. You ain't no archmage! You should know better!''
When she returned to consciousness, she was back in the city
with a throbbing headache and an urge to strike fear into the hearts
of those of the high tower of sorcery. She would do all she could
to terrorize them.
(Role 2) Conterito
Added Tue Mar 28 17:50:09 2017 at level 42:
Note: This role is a summary of what was gobbled by the CF Role Gremlin
Guais met with Ishuli, proposed a study of inflicting terror
and was tasked to write her treatise on the subject.
(Role 3) An Herbal Remedy for Courage
Added Tue Mar 28 17:50:58 2017 at level 42:
After submitting a first draft of 'The Way of Architecture',
Guais met with Ishuli to discuss different aspects of the work.
The goddess was curious why Guais would mask her enterprise as
a discussion of architecture, to which the arial explained that
fear is a creation of the mind, and for this reason mystique and
misdirection are used to create a mental version of sleight of hand
so that those who have not been baptised in my craft might be able
to fully appreciate her work when it is revealed to them.
Further conversation included current studies, thief paths
including the art of 'herbal remedies for courage', pickpocketing,
thuggering, and trapping. Her second path has not yet been determined,
but Guais's observations evinced pleasant surprise from the goddess.
This pleased Guais as well, for she is all about creating surprises.
(Role 4) Application Accepted
Added Tue Mar 28 17:51:42 2017 at level 42:
Note: This role is a summary of what was gobbled by the CF Role Gremlin
Guais met with Ishuli to review her first submission, outlined
her (initial) intent to become a Vindicator, and soon after
met with Saxonjachs and was quickly inducted after discussing
possible crime scenarios.
(Role 5) Bloody Justice
Added Tue Mar 28 17:52:32 2017 at level 42:
Guais has become established as a minor cog in
the wheel of Justice. Hours on duty stretched into
weeks before the first bit of crime occurred on her
watch, but it were simple affairs with no one dying
in the flush of direct combat (both criminals later fell).
On a morning in which she had set out to reestablish
her good standing with her financiers, however, she
encountered her first real taste of magistrate life.
The magistrate in Galadon, a paladin named Aelekai,
was having complications with a Baron of Entropy named
Beckett, a known criminal practicing the necromantic arts.
The report came that the paladin had been slept south of
Galadon, and so Guais sighed, realizing the bank would have
to wait, and ran off to go to work.
Beckett was working over Aelekai well, summoning him about
the outskirts, hiding behind a mass of mirror images, completely
baffling the knight. Guais tried to engage with a wingsweep,
but of course missed. Such is the chaos of battle.
The perceived ineptitude encouraged the Baron, and he subsequently began
throwing purple magics into the air as he sought to flush the thief
from hiding. Eventually he achieved success, and his subsequent
attempt to put the thief to sleep led to his own demise, as a
well-timed trip followed by the plunge of a poisoned dagger has
slain many before.
Guais felt some pleasure, finally, after all these years, to avenge
the events of all those years ago. Justice had been served.
Failings
Added Sat May 6 11:41:57 2017 at level 51:
A transgression against the spirit of the law, wrought by an ongoing
battle with Ghek, has planted a seed of self-doubt in Silverpreen
that had not existed. She tried to absolve herself of her guilt by
poisoning herself in the Curator's shrine, but she recognizes that within us all
and the four horsemen of the Apocalypse--Greed, Envy, Wrath and Pride--exist within
us all and pose a risk to order and civilization.
UnDying
Added Sun May 28 10:25:38 2017 at level 51:
Her recent adventures have led Guais Silverpreen toward contemplation
of life, death, purpose and morality, and in sharing her observations
with the Curator, Silverpreen and Ishuli stumbled upon a fascinating
question: is there an antidote to the Elixir?
Her first step in this journey has been to interview Undaraxyl Mal'Akith,
a mummy who had pursued the Elixir's ingredients from the mad cleric.
In exchange for this information, Guais Silverpreen was prepared to ritually
sacrifice herself before the mummy, but his ravenous appetite disrupted the
beauty of the moment with bestial savagery.
Guais also learned something of the ritual that allows a mummy to
resume flesh, but the description of it seems wholly magic and outside
her abilities--unless she has a scroll from which she might read.
Given a shortage of liches who might aid her in her research, Guais
intends to seek out the mad cleric, brew her own Elixir, and from
the ingredients and through experimentation, craft an antidote to
the Becoming.
The Mad Priest
Added Sun Jun 4 16:50:06 2017 at level 51:
After failed attempts with a group, Guais ventured into the Undead Vale
alone, working on the assumption that traveling to the other side of life
was a journey she would eventually have to do on her own. To her surprise, she was
successful.
The Priest was distracted in his own studies, and after making her appeal to him,
the priest put her to sleep, erased her mind, and then attacked her. She was, in his words,
unskilled in the dark energies and would make a poor lich. Guais asked to be taught,
to be taken on as an apprentice, and she created poisons to mimic the effects
the undead priest had used upon her.
For one seeking knowledge, you sure are thick. Meant as an insult, the priest's words
did not raise her ire. Meaningful things require persistence.
Eil Sharei is proof that paladins, priests, warriors and thieves all can survive the Becoming.
The question is only how to persuade the priest to work with Guais.
The Cost of Tuition
Added Thu Jun 15 20:01:29 2017 at level 51:
Silverpreen has begun negotiations with Scarabaeus over the cost of
learning Death Lore, a program of study that would allow the thief the
ability to understand the process used to keep her spirit within her
preserved body if the Elixir works. The demands the dark master places
upon the arial are potentially quite high, threatening to compromise
her career in the Blood Tribunal, but the pursuit of knowledge comes
with a cost.
Will the cost be too dear?
