Description
Tattered and petty brown robes cover much of this persons attire.
From the build, it is easily discernible that the figure is male, however
their movements are not those of poise nor practice. Through a few
holes in his outer garments, mismatched metal and leather armament
manage to catch attention but his rings appear to be the most valuable
item in sight. Judging from his appearance and the small ringlets of
short, curly black hair that stand out in a youthful style, he definitely is
not concerned with vanity. His facial features match his youthful
hairstyle and although pleasing, do little to evoke confidence in his faux
smile. Deeply blue eyes, bordering on lilac, are set with a gaze of
determination as they take in all of the surroundings.

Guaryaten was born into a lower-class working family in the city of Galadon.
His father, mother, brothers and he all worked a tiny plot of land to provide
fruit for the city's bakery and fruit vendor.
From the beginning, he was not strong or as physically fit as his older
siblings nor did he have the innate sense for the weather and seasons that his
mother held, making him the black sheep.
His father and mother always loved him but the pitiful harvests beginning when
he was six were the turning point in his life. Being less able to contribute,
his parents were forced to give him up to pay off debt.
Being kind down deep in his soul, he didn't blame them and was happy that they
would not starve. The businessman who took was a harsh, demanding and vile
man, who pushed him to exhaustion.
The man's son seemed to find it funny to cause all sorts of mischief and almost
always blamed Guaryaten. Most times it resulted in a whipping, scolding or
loss of rations but some were less harsh.
However, not long after celebrating his fifteenth birthday he was blamed for an
enormous loss of profit when the businessman's son purposefully destroyed one
of his ledgers after not getting his way.
That incident was how he ended up on the streets as a beggar. Sure he'd do what
he could to earn some money here and there but it was never enough to truly
sustain him nor enough to get ahead.
Whether it was luck, fate, or happenstance, one day a passerby threw him some
alms but shortly after, grasped his wrist with wonder. He glanced up at the
woman in amazement and reverence.
The turn.

She was beautiful. It seemed like an eternity as she stared into his eyes.
Afterwards they had an incredibly long conversation where she explained who she
was and how his family had been swindled.
She explained how the man had done the same to many families. How he'd taken
their farms and destroyed families by pushing interest rates higher in times of
famine and crisis.
Wickedness, the great indicator of true evil. Sometimes it is subtle and
sometimes not but it should always be combatted. Indifference of good people
in the presence of demonstrative acts is hurtful.
As the hours of her sermon turned into days, then weeks, she finally disclosed
to him what initially caught her attention, Mana. It lurked behind his eyes
and although the aura was faint, it was there.
After taking on some of her more ardent traits, he even found that he wanted to
do something about the darkness present in the world himself. It was then that
he enlisted in the Galadonian academy.
Of the great magical schools, transmutation, conjuration, invocation, and
shapeshifting only the latter ever really intrigued him. Having been weak most
of his life, magical enhancement sounded good.
So, without hesitation, he walked to the guild master and joined the stable.
It was then that he realized that his savior had left him with a parting gift.
Courage, the ability to do what's needed.
Cultivating the roots of Warfare.

Guaryaten's struggle to find his way within the shapeshifter's guild has been
one of limited success and several setbacks. Learning the magical spells the
guild has to offer these last five years has been a challenge.
First were the defensive magics, reforming his skin into tough, leathery armor.
Next were more offensive spells like learning to grow sharp protrusions, like
bull horns, and how to use them to fight.
Advancing further and choosing to learn utilitarian shapes, he had expected his
first full animal takeover to be as powerful but becoming a giant squirrel was
neither powerful nor menacing.
It was then that he began seeking outside aid, talking to others of the light
and learning of things like the marble sculpture, wands, and talismans, and
even some things about scrolls that contain magic.
During this time, he faced several wicked enemies, testing fang, wand, and all
sorts of magic in the fight but all without victory. Foul Minotaur and Fire
giants alike, have thus far proven too much.
Because of the overpowering might of those he's faced, he has come to consider
more cunning and is seeking to learn a variety of magic to use against specific
enemies, however some have drawbacks.
Studying the lay of the land and slowly learning the inns and outs of where the
wicked travel and hunt are as important as learning to strike. Although, thus
far, his talents as a shapeshifter have proved ineffective, he's happy with the
choice.
Good steps and Bad stumbles.

War is messy, ugly, and causes pain to both those in it and those around it.
It can lead to death, destruction and horrible lingering injuries. Those
injuries aren't always in the form of the physical.
Not long ago, Guaryaten was working to end some of the corruption that he'd
seen among the merchants overflowing in the Hamsah sea port. The majority of
businessmen there have been corrupted.
Likely because of his past experiences at the hands of a corrupt businessman,
he felt an uncommon urge to take the fight to these vile men and women and did
so with a righteous zeal and fury.
Magi, vile women, fat and brawny, all the merchants became a blur to him in his
quest to bring down their corrupt enterprise. However, it's always important
to keep sight of the enemy when waging war.
Whether it was their intent or accident, or if it wasn't for him paying close
enough attention, a pair of swarthy looking merchants found their end by his
hand, during the prolonged melee of violence.
Words lacked the ability to describe such pain when you harm someone that you
care about and are struggling to help. This is what he felt, as if a bit of
his heart had simply been cleaved out, as they fell.
In repentance, he accommodated the men as monetarily as he could when their
spirits reformed and begged their forgiveness. In light of this error, he's
made a vow to dedicate himself as a merchant himself.
Using their example, he'll be a seller and trader of goods, trinkets, and the
like and use the money to help others of the light. His first act was to help
finance an elven conjurer's purchase of some books called Convegno.
He feels that this is a small part and just the first step of what he wants to
do during his path towards squirehood and hopefully eventually earning the
mantle of Maran. Saving money, and using it to help those in need.

Signposts are all over the land. Some point to Inns, some to towns, others
serve as markers of hazardous locations and some can be made out in the hands
of divine beings themselves.
All signs have some form of indication that comes along with them, be they
readable, understandable, or not. Many of them you'll walk right by and never
have noticed or you'll walk by many times before seeing.
In this modern day, nearly all signs are some sort of physical representation,
though some may have magical qualities, each seems to have a clear meaning if
the whole of it is readable.
Guaryaten has seen and encountered signs for most of his life. First noticing
the ones around the town of Galadon, each determining different vendors or
locations, and some outside towards other towns.
He'd heard about the more irregular signs through his many years living as a
mage and talking to various prophets, sooth sayers and the like. Honestly
though, he didn't give them all that much credit.
Many of those folk he considered just raving madmen or women. Surely though
quite a few of them had access to the flow of magic and mana, they had a vast
misunderstanding of it's uses.
It wasn't until a bit of honest reflection that he finally opened his eyes to
more of the unorthodox realm of magic. It first happened when he was trying to
decide which patron deity to call his own.

Originally he'd been drawn to the Pathfinder Lord, Korsgaard for his close
alignment toward the fight against darkness and wickedness. Surely the
indomitable Lord would be a good choice for one to follow.
But, then during his meditation on the ideal, he began to look back at his
life. First after the years that he decided to pick up and become an
adventurer, ultimately deciding on the guild of shapeshifting.
At first, it just seemed like a coincidence. It was his thirteenth battle in
which he was finally blooded and which earned him the chance to speak with the
Marshall of the Fortress, earning his squirehood.
He'd never bothered to count his skirmishes before but there it was. Thirteen
of them before first being successful. Even then, he would have chocked it up
to a fluke if he hadn't left on his venture when he did.
It was the month of Dark Shades when he finally decided that he wanted to make
a difference in the world, just after his chance meeting with that beautiful
woman. Dark Shades being the thirteenth month.
She had pointed out that originally it was his difference that made him stand
out and that she'd decided to help him. And, it wasn't until he embraced it
and took up study that he felt happy to be making a difference.
Further looking back left him with time after time that the number thirteen
kept showing up, and he thinks that it certainly can't all be a coincidence.
As such, he's decided to dig more into the Lord of Luck, Whiysdan.
The Game of Gold.

The many runners and magical messages disseminated themselves across the lands.
There was to be a tournament, a gathering of talented gold gatherers
throughout the lands.
Within the large Inn, known as the Eternal Star, the masses gathered. It was a
place of smoke, drink and good food. Certainly as jovial of a group as any to
grace its' hallowed halls.
Soon followed the oddly cordial presence of Morius, Lord of indulgence. Not
long after his arrival, he quieted the crowds and began laying out the rules.
So few as they were, it was a brief speech.
Before long, all available were sent off running in various directions, headed
out to gather coins and compete with one another. Guaryaten was almost
immediately attacked by Battle's Commander.
This forced his change of plans from dragon slaying to simply picking up and
selling various trinkets. When the time allotted was over, he returned and was
first to arrive, trying to be prompt.
One by one they made their way back to the Inn, which was quietly bustling
along, various patrons and even an Outlander standing by to condemn the various
uses of money.
As the tally added, each passed their coins to Morius for counting and the
standings ended up what seemed to be poorly. He was in last place in total
coins and the Commander was top.
However, as it turns out, the largest loser was the biggest winner amongst the
participants. It was after the standings were announced that Morius proclaimed
all coins to go to his church.
That could only mean that those that didn't participate were the biggest help
to the lands and those that donated more were more of a hinderance. In this
case, his assault luckily helped him.
Maybe it was because he only found thirteen various trinkets, weapons and arms
to sell, but luck was certainly with him. And, this was the only time he was
glad his mercantile skills slumped.
