Role
Nionwen the Ancient
Added Wed Oct 28 17:43:51 2015 at level 1:
For millennia, the elves of Darsylon have enjoyed the harmonious
life among the trees and valleys and streams of the Arendyl and Darsylon,
prospering on their raised platforms.
Gwildaththea was not an exception, leading a rather usual life, studying
under the Wise ones before being deemed ready to join the King's court as
an under-apprentice for The Royal High Singer due to Gwildaththea's tendency
to not fit within the usual behavior of the Highborn society. Highly curious,
she did not take well to the long meditations and the ponderings of self that
the other Wise ones prized highly. Running wild across the lands, even running
off to the Skeleton Mount multiple times to observe the Undeath itself walk
around, she was rather too active to be left alone.
Unfit to be a warrior, she was to be a Singer.
Virtually unknown to outsiders, the Singers have been involved in all
manner of building and construction, singing to the natural materials
comprising the homes and even the Royal Palace. It has been long known
that the Sung wood and stone hold up much better under duress and are bound
together seemingly by themselves, lasting with no rot or decay for as long
as anyone can recall. The Singer's art requires concentration and a high degree
of self-awareness and self-discipline, thus deemed rather suitable for the unruly
children who can't even sit in place for a few days.
What was the new discovery for Gwildaththea was the source of that strange power.
Summoned into the Royal High Singer's chambers, she was told to open her senses
and expect anything. After donning the whites of the pure, she was ushered into
a small cave off the side of the Royal Palace, hidden beneath a series of secret
passages, some of which seemed to be illusions meant to confuse anyone seeking the way.
In the center of the perfectly spherical cave was a wooden totem, inscribed with
pictures of strange creatures and weird shapes, with the flowing lettering in a
language unknown to her. She felt drawn in somehow, encouraged to touch it.
As soon as she did, all feeling was lost and the sense of overwhelming presence
filled Gwildaththea.
Then it was as if a sliver of that presense separated and united with
Gwildaththea's spirit. In that moment, she knew that the Ancient by the name of
Nionwen, First of His Name, an ancestor to the elven race, was awakened by the
pain of the land suffered by Thar-Eris.The iron, the raids, the presence of the
Lich made Nionwen pause His slumber and reach out to the High Singer through the
totem that kept his power while providing a connection to the land. It was foretold
that the young elven apprentice would join the fight to keep the Life and Thar-Eris
intact and perhaps even return Her to the natural state, without the pesky disturbances
that awoke Nionwen. And thus it was so.
The forces of the dark and their barrier.
Added Fri Nov 6 06:59:08 2015 at level 16:
Gwildaththea has been taught many new useful things by the guildmaster
in the grove, but Singing them, or communing, as it's more commonly known,
brings nothing to her. The guildmaster is rather stumped and keeps talking about
finding the inner strength and opening the spirit to the world.
No, it would not be that, Gwildaththea feels that ever since being Touched
by Nionwen, the dark forces, sensing a challenge to their reign, have
conspired to put an artificial block between the source of her prayers
and herself, preventing her to tap any of the significant power now
available to her. This, however, could not last.
Nionwen will break through and reach her spirit, she will be able to commune.
It must be so. And it will be.
The Guildmaster's help and the strong hold of the Shadow
Added Mon Nov 16 20:57:33 2015 at level 20:
I might indeed be on the right path and present a very strong challenge
to the Shadow. The whispering dark voices that I am sure were not part of
my imagination, the persistance at which they pursued me to abandon my cause.
They spoke of the futility of my pursuit, how the Gods have abandoned me,
how the Light and Nionwen will never listen or hear to my prayers.
It became overly obvious that it became more difficult to maintain
the barrier between myself and the source of my power.
Then the kind Guildmaster of the Grove was kind enough to walk over
with me to the Sun Totem in Arendyl Vale where I feel the closest to Nionwen.
There, he has enlivened the Life around me and I felt the presence of almost
Divine power that is the beauty and glorious diversity of Life.
Alas, it was not enough to awaken Nionwen from his long slumber.
While guildmaster was of the opinion that maybe Nionwen was just one facet of
the Ancient Strienat, I disagreed as I sensed the anger of Nionwen at the
forces of Shadow and Unlife, a feeling of rage was conveyed, and I do
believe I am to aggressively pursue battle with those who do not embrace Life.
One will do what one must. The blockade will end and Life will prevail.
The Bark of Nionwen and His teachings
Added Wed Nov 18 16:51:02 2015 at level 20:
The One Embracing Life believes in the active protection of the living,
except for those who choose to embrace Unlife or only scatter Death around.
While Death has a part in the cycle, some have no appreciation of the more
important, Life part. They do not hear the call of Thar-Eris, they do not heed
the warnings of the whispering trees and rushing streams.
The lich and his blind minions, the duergars of the world do not
Embrace Life and thus should become a part of the Cycle, feeding first
the maggots, then the spiders, then perhaps the birds and little crits,
eventually the lions and bears and even Thar-Eris herself for the
trees and grass to grow taller, for the meadows to be full of flowers.
There is a second part of the Teaching, that of the Song.
While Singing in the Old Tongue, the performer must concentrate her
utmost on her surroundings, Embracing all Life around her, which
usually means being outside, among the denizens of Thar-Eris big and small.
The first stage of Singing allows one to affect emotions of some who are
more receptive to the Intonations. The second stage is to affect the natural
materials, much like the ritual of Strengthening, but done with a voice.
Third and ultimate stage is to affect the Spirit of the listeners.
With the mastery of it achieved, she can Intonate to refresh and heal
the heart of her listeners, providing Light and appreciation for Life.
Ruling over the Sun and the Moon both, Nionwen favors the spheres of
Vivimancy and Poetry, preferring the placement of his Totem to be hidden.
The lifting of the curse
Added Thu Dec 17 11:42:54 2015 at level 33:
As my Songs grew stronger, Nionwen has heard me, tasking with collecting
ten items that would be used in breaking the curse. The items, used to
represent the ties of myself to the Thar-Eris and benevolence, were
timely gathered. In His infinite power, Nionwen has untied my soul and
essence from the barrier created by the Dark forces and I was able to
commune His power freely. Praising Nionwen and spreading His word is now my goal.
The Song rises high
Added Tue Mar 1 20:44:19 2016 at level 51:
With the power of Nionwen flowing through her, Gwildaththea felt very empowered.
Her Song of Life was higher than ever, feeling response all around her.
As she studied to Sing and channel the power, new studies in the guild have
been mastered and before long, nothing that the guildmaster knew was left to learn.
Feeling as one with Thar-Eris more than ever, she Sang as the Darkness
and Unlife withered and retreated from their encroachment.
Feeling the calling to higher service, Gwildaththea stepped forward to
serve as the Sunwarden of Thar-Eris, to spring new Life and inspire new
wardens to arise and strengthen the Life and the Light.
Warding off the black locust of the mummy Emnon and his advances,
she does her best to decompose and dispose of him. However, that undead
is held together by a power not yet known to Gwildaththea.
Feeling for the potential loss of Life, she participated in the deadly
contest held by Emnon. The two goals were to save a life or two and to
ensure that the duergars do not win it to grow stronger.
Strange enough for all the parties envolved, somehow she emerged as the
winner, the last standing reaver refusing Gwildaththea's offer of life
and instead choosing to perish to Nature, perhaps too confident of her elements.
Taking on a pupil was discouraged by Nionwen, who took more of a position of
waiting for a very worthy soul to arise before the art of Singing can be taught.
Gwildaththea now ponders another worthy task to pursue to better server Nionwen and Life.
