Description
A short, yet remarkably wide figure stands before you. While maybe 4 feet
tall, you would guess he weighs over 300 pounds. Most of his bulk looks to
be muscle, especially in his arms and legs, but his gut shows that he is no
stranger to a brew or two, or even an entire week of straight grog. Within
his serious face are two small blue eyes set deep below bushy brown eyebrows.
His brown beard is shorter than most. It hangs just below his neckline in
three carefully twisted braids. He is no stranger to work as evidenced by
his heavily callused hands, and the weapons held within them are of ine
craftsmanship.
Role
Leaving Home

Haageran was content as any dwarf could be. Mining and forging have been his
family trade since before even his grandfather can recall. Day in and out,
his father and he would work the mine and transform the toil of their labors
into glorious displays of craftsmanship. However, as he grew up, his father
started spending more and more time in the mines and less time at the forge,
even less time with the family. One day, his father came in from the mine
ranting about the power he discovered deep down in his tunnels. That night,
Haageran's father attempted to murder his own father, Haageran's grandfather.
the madness had dulled his wits, and Haageran's grandfather was
able to release the madness before the passing.
That night, Haageran's grandfather explained to sheltered Haageran the
struggle that takes place in Thera between the light and the darkness, and
the temptation of power that the darkness provides. Horrified, Halrum packed
his weapon, some meat, and some grog and left his mine, his forge, and what
was left of his family behind. He vowed to never allow the darkness to
destroy good people again. He set out to make a difference.
Development of Dedication
Added Thu Jan 26 14:45:39 2006 at level 37:
Having left his only home to make a difference, Haageran wandered about Thera
dedicated to his goal. His dedication being his motivator, Haageran
destroyed as much of the taint as he could, aiding and siding with good souls
where he could.
However, with thoughts of his mountain, his family, and his father in his
head Haageran grew tired of being homeless and alone. Not willing to give up
his fight, Haageran sought and obtained a position within the Fortress of
Light. Here, he has found a new family - a family that understands and
supports him in his goal... even if there isn't a forge within the walls.
More importantly, with his new found home and companionship, Haageran has
been able to develop his depth of dedication to a higher level.Previously,
all Haageran was dedicated to was the destruction of darkness, of whatever it
was that corrupted and as Haageran would put it, "killed" his father.
Haageran has now come to believe that it cannot simply stop there, that he
must be utterly dedicated to everything that he does. He follows his heart,
and if he sets out to do something, he will see it done to the fullest and
best that it can be done. This depth of dedication has allowed Haageran to
more fully control his rage at the darkness, to keep it in check and release
it only when it is needed.
The War and a Beard
Added Thu Feb 9 13:51:19 2006 at level 51:
When Haageran left his home in the mountain, he shaved his beard. He was a
dwarf without a home, a craft, and a forge, and to him, that meant that he
had to go beardless. In those days, Haageran had a vision in his mind... a
vision that he would go smite the darkness, and when the world was free of
the taint, he would return to the mines and his forge to practice his
craftsmanship.
It has been some time now, and the war still wages. Haageran has come to
realize that the war will not end, at least not in his lifetime. As long as
Thera exists, and mortals inhabit her, there will be opposing factions, and
not all will have values that are as just, pure, and true as Haagerans. He
has come to accept that he will not be returning to his mountain, for he is
no longer a craftsman - yes, he can forge metal better than any human ever
could - but he is a holy warrior now. The might of Lord Aarn flows through
his veins, and Haageran can craft that, along with his rage, better than any
metal.
Haageran is letting his beard grow now.He has found a home: the Fortress,
and he has a craft: crushing dark skulls with heavenly authority. All he is
missing is a forge.
Order and Chaos - The Second War
Added Mon Mar 6 23:01:55 2006 at level 51:
Haageran has fought long now. And during his fight, he has always been
plagued by what he has come to refer to as the second war. Order and chaos.
It sounds very simple, but it is not. Neither order nor chaos is inherently
evil, but neither is good either. An elf might ponder the relationships
between such forces for his entire life, but Haageran is not an elf. He is
one for action, not thinking, and as such has boiled down his involvement in
the second war to the following two guidelines.
First and foremost, if there is wickedness to be slain, it will be slain,
regardless of the time, place, or laws.
Secondly, those whom are not tainted and fight the second war, not the first,
are to be ignored and avoided, unless they strike at him or his comrades
first.
These two guidelines stem from Haagerans life in Thera. He has experienced
the second war, and he is not fond of it. To him, it is merely a distraction
to the true war at hand, a war he has seen the consequences of first hand.
