Description
Blue and Yellow. These are the colors of this male arial. The majority of his
feathers are a dark navy blue, that at times and under the right light can
appear to be black. The blue feathers are accented by areas of bright yellow
such as the feather tips around the nape of his neck, feathers around the
eyes, and the tips and sides of the primary feathers on his wings. Like
many arial, he is quite tall, and lean. He has coal black eyes, and might
be considered attractive, but, only to those of the avian race.

Bova Traphestus was a simple, hard-working man who lived in the arial city. He worked as a blacksmith
and did well at his craft. He had a tendency to keep his opinions to himself, his head down and just
work. This kind of work ethic may seem on the surface to be the recipe for success, however, for Bova it
was not. No matter how hard he worked he couldnt manage to get ahead in the competitive markets of
the arial city where one needed more than just a strong work ethic to succeed. He was not alone, as
with any society, for every one person who was a success there were many more that were stuck on the
bottom rungs of society.
Around this time, the City of Udgaard decided it wanted to expand its tax base, and so it laid claim to the
wild frontier north of its gates once known as the blight. The city then offered free land to any who
would be willing to settle this territory in hopes that people would come and find a way to scratch out a
living there. Bova and a number of other arials of his same stature heard about this offer and decided to
take a chance and settle these rocky wastes. That was four generations before the birth of Haphanas
Traphestus.
A Hard Life
Added Wed Sep 5 09:52:41 2012 at level 25:
Haphanas had been raised in the rough country of the rocky wastes. His family lived on a high sill where
a vein of magma had cooled between layers of sedimentary rock. Over the millennia the sedimentary
rock had eroded away, leaving the harder igneous rock sill standing high above the ground, which made
a perfect place for an arial family to build a home in a dangerous place such as the rocky wastes.
Life was difficult in the rocky wastes. Over the years, beginning with Bova, his family had learned to
survive. Life was very, very hard. Hunting had become the main mode of survival for the settlers, with
little crops being grown. Some men mined the rocky wastelands for ore and precious minerals, relying
on neighbors to trade with for their food source. Fire had become an important part of the Traphestuss
lives. It began with Bova, who was a blacksmith by trade and immediately knew the value of fire in the
wastes to survive. In fact, he helped many neighbors build large ovens and furnaces designed to
maximize and prolong fires. The wastes were a dry climate that had hot summer, fall and spring days
with cold nights and cold winters. Fire was invaluable for survival. The only trouble was finding fuel for
fires, which made fires even more important. Not only was physical fire important for survival, but, an
inner fire was necessary to endure the hardship of life in the wastes. Like the physical fire in the wastes,
if it went out, you died. So it was with the inner fire. People gave up and died when their inner fire went
out. Haphanas prided himself on his brightly burning inner fire.
A person had to be mentally tough to make a life in these wastes. The culture, most especially in the
Traphestus family, was one where hard work not only gained you survival, it gained you respect. The
men and women were tough. Haphanas himself took pride in accomplishing hard tasks. The harder the
better. He felt that the only accomplishments worth being proud of were the ones not everyone could
accomplish because of their difficulty. Blacksmithing had remained with his family, however, Haphanas
himself preferred the hunt.
Hunting, just like everything else in the wastes, was difficult. It was also dangerous. It certainly required
skill as game was scarce, and often one was forced to hunt bigger and more dangerous creatures than
would be preferred due to the scarcity of game. It was this challenge that Haphanas reveled in. While
skilled with most hunting weapons, Haphanas often tested himself by hunting with only knives. As he
grew more skilled at hunting he found himself seeking out bigger and more dangerous game. It was
almost as if he had become a trophy hunter of sorts, except that nothing from a kill went to waste.
A New Type of Hunter
Added Wed Sep 5 09:54:40 2012 at level 25:
Many whose fires did not burn as bright often left their families for lives in the more civilized parts of
the world. One such person was Elephis, an arial female who Haphanas had known growing up. She had
left the wastes and joined the invokers guild. At one time she had returned to visit her family in the
wastes. During this visit, she decided to accompany a group of hunters on a hunt that included
Haphanas. Haphanas was outlining the details of how they were going to take down a Yarutz, a smaller
yet still dangerous version of a desert troll, that he had tracked and was now just on the other side of a
ridge from them.
As Haphanas explained his plan, Elephis arrogantly decided it was too much work and she knew an
easier way. Ignoring all the protests, Elephis walked over the ridge, spotted the Yarutz and struck at it
with magical fire, killing the beast. She haughtily returned boasting about her feat, and Haphanas was
not only angry but humiliated.
On the return he argued with Elephis about the use of her magic. She was so weak of mind and body,
yet she commanded this magic and pretended as though she had strength. Haphanas did not like it one
bit. Elephis explained to Haphanas that the truly powerful of the world were magi of the highest order.
These magi had such magic at their command that even mighty and ancient dragons couldnt stand
before their magic.
Angry, humiliated and insulted by the idea that one could accomplish such feats with a simple flick of
the wrist and no real effort put in to it, Haphanas decided it was time to hunt bigger prey. If these magi
were in fact the top of the food chain like Elephis claimed, he would hunt them all and prove their magic
was no match to his inner fire and work ethic. And so begins Haphanass life as a magi hunter.
A Task
Added Tue Sep 11 16:46:30 2012 at level 25:
Haphanas had made it a goal to truly impress and earn a place in the village, even if that meant going
over and above what some other applicants might have to do. As it would be, it seemed as though fate
read his mind. Not long after slaying his first magi, a necromancer, and swearing the oath to Tahren, the
Commander, Salyeris, called him to the Village to talk.
Haphanas went to the village, and alongside of another applicant he described his intentions in joining
the Village and his view on what kind of Villager he saw himself as being. He was aware that it wasnt
some sort of personal tragedy that set him out on this path. Rather it was the combination of the work
or die, accomplishment driven culture that he was from and his personal observation of how magic ran
counter to that. One could say that he hated magic, but, it might be more accurately to say that
Haphanas felt disdain for and looked down on magic itself, and hated the people who often put it to use.

himself and given enough time he could be considered a Villager of the highest caliber.
Because of the goal Haphanas set for himself of impressing his way into the Village with his
accomplishments and work ethic he was rather pleased when the Commander set the minotaur
BattleRager Kontoln Stoneback to try him. The task set to Haphanas was one that would be a challenge
and one he would be proud in accomplishing. Having already slain one necromancer, Kontoln tasked him
to slay a mage from each of the other five guilds. Haphanas readily agreed, and set to work. He did not
care if it took him years to complete this task and gain entrance to the Village. He would work hard until
it was done. To date, he has three guilds left to go.
Multiple Tasks
Added Thu Sep 13 16:41:29 2012 at level 26:
Haphanas had been spending his time trying to complete Kontolns task, hunting and honing his
warriors skills. He was getting close to completing the task. He only needed to slay an anti-paladin,
which he was finding difficult due to their rarity. In fact, to his utter frustration, the first dark knight he
had seen in years, he had nearly killed before the dark knight managed to escape at the last moment.
During this time, Haphanas had been approached by the Drillmistress and Varks. At the time the
Drillmistress approached him, Haphanas had slain five magi and the she tasked him to slay three more
magi or earn a recommendation and return to her. Haphanas happened to still need three differently
guilded magi at the time, and so hoped to complete Kontolns task and earn his recommendation, thus
completing both the Drillmistresss requirements.
Later, having slain three more magi, but from similar guilds, Varks approached Haphanas and invited
him to share a mug of ale and speak. Haphanas obliged him, and after telling Varks about himself, Varks
tasked Haphanas with slaying ten total magi, or two more.
Not long after Haphanass talk with Varks, the Commander, Salyeris passed away. Suddenly, Haphanas
found himself wondering where that left him in terms of earning his place in the Village. He had
absolutely no intentions to give up on Kontolns task as he was determined to complete it and it simply
wasnt in him to quit. However, he had recently slain his tenth magi and reported to Varks he had done
as asked. Pleased with him, Varks recommended him to the Drillmistress thereby telling the Drillmistress
that Haphanas had completed both of her tasks, even though only one was required. This changed
things as with the passing of Salyeris, she was now the judge of what it took to earn a hut.
Haphanas ultimately decided that he would continue to train and hunt and simply see what happens.
Should the Drillmistress feel hes earned a hut, then so be it. But, villager or applicant, Kontolns task
would not go forgotten.
A Task Completed
Added Mon Sep 17 16:35:10 2012 at level 26:
Haphanas was out hunting the conjurer Morech, when he looked in the sky and saw the Lucky Lord
Whiysdan visible to mortal eyes. Realizing that he had slain twelve magi, he thought it couldnt hurt to
ask the Lucky Lord for a shot of luck in hunting this thirteenth magi skull. To his surprise, the Lucky Lord
obliged him and within several hours Haphanas stood over the corpse of Morech.
Not long after, Haphanas still needing to slay an anti-paladin set out on a hunt when he noticed the Ant-
Paladin Sute woke to the lands. Finally! A dark knight he can hunt. Haphanas caught up to Sute in the
Wizards shop of Galadon and went after him but missed slamming him to the ground, allowing Sute to
escape. Irritated over his inability to seal the kill with these dark knights, he gritted his teeth and
persisted on his hunt. The persistence would pay off as Haphanas would find Sute east of Voralia and
this time he would kill the mage and thus complete Kontolns task.
Haphanas was so elated over accomplishing this difficult task that he went to the Inn of the Eternal Star
and decided to celebrate. Graenmar, the bartender of the eternal star, served him up and served him
well. Haphanas celebrated, told stories and ultimately drank himself into such a stupor that he passed
out at the bar. When he woke he was so sick from the alcohol that even the Lady Iunna showed some
concern. It took him days to recover from this hangover. Perhaps next time he wouldnt celebrate quite
so hard!
Apprenticeship
Added Tue Sep 25 16:48:12 2012 at level 41:
With blacksmithing in his ancestry, and his strong sense of inner fire, Haphanas sought out the warrior-
god Thror Hammersong, to see if he could prove himself a worthy apprentice. Because of his families
strong background in smithing Haphanas was ever aware of the strong importance of fire to the craft of
blacksmithing, which he tried his best to explain to Thror. Fire was what heated the metal to become
malleable and allow the smith to shape it. It was ever critical for the smithing process. What Haphanas
also knew but failed to mention to Thror was that fire was crucial in separating the metal from
impurities. Haphanas could see that both of these things could be applied to life. His inner fire was what
allowed him to mold the people and world around him to achieve the desired results. It also allowed
him to remove or destroy any impurities or obstacles he might encounter. Fire, to Haphanas, was the
most important part of the process as it was required before anything else could happen.
Thror explained to Haphanas some aspects of what it means to be a Noldarian Smith, including that
Noldars had no egos. They just shaped, and continued doing so without pause. At the end of the
discussion Thror tasked Haphanas with earning a place of substance and influence within the Village,
such as Commander, Drillmaster, MageSlayer or Veteran in order to earn his mark and become an
apprentice. The task would be difficult and require a good amount of hard work, however, Haphanas felt
up to the task just as he did with any task, no matter how tall, as he knew his fire burned bright enough
to carry him through anything.
Reaching Hero
Added Fri Oct 5 13:59:57 2012 at level 51:
Haphanas has grown into a hero within his guild. He has selected a fighting style that relies on finesse
rather than sheer power and he has taken his bruises trying to master it. On that front he feels he has
gained much ground, but, still has quite a bit to go.
Since becoming a hero he has found his enemies to be numerous. Much more than he anticipated
beyond the magi he intended to hunt. This made those hunts difficult, as the magi often were
accompanied by people or an enemy would distract him. Orcs were the biggest distraction to his magi
hunting. Most of them seemed content to make war on the Village, finding delight in putting to use their
inherent ability to take advantage of a Villagers weakness. Haphanas found the situation entirely
revolting. He had not become a Villager to fight a war with orcs. Yet, with the orcs frequently attacking
the Village to take the head or allying themselves with the magi he hunted, he had no choice. He would
not back down from the orcs. It would simply be a hardship he would just have to endure. He could only
hope that something would happen remove this obstacle from his path.
