Description
The male before you looks to be fairly average in his build and height as far
as humans go. He looks undefined and is certainly not a warrior or anything
graceful. He looks umblemished and seems to be in quite good health overall.
He has pale white skin that indicates perhaps he is from a colder climate.
Most of his limbs are covered by the various layers of clothing he wears but
his hands are visible and they appear to be quite skeletal with long dagger
like fingers.
He has a long slender face that a droopy nose resides in the center of. His
mouth just below forms something of a natural scowl and he appears unfriendly
even in the best of times. His eyes which are surely the highlight of his
appearance are an icy blue and couple well with his platinum blonde hair that
runs mostly unkept just past his small rounded ears.
His attire is made up of armors and cloth yet various artifacts of magical
origin are clearly seen on his person. Wands, scrolls and the like are common
and he appears to run his fingers across them from time to time, ensuring
they are in place for use.
Closer observation reveals that...

A New Teacher

Hetherian Vune? Who do you think that could be?
Scribed in the ruins of a small village lost in the depths of Silverwood,
this name appears on the wall of one of the villagers home with several words
insanely scribbled around it. Insane. Curse. Death. Revenge.
Hetherian grew up in this place, and his departure was not pleasant.
It all began in his early youth, when he was removed from the local school.
He was very competitive, even then often finding himself in fights and other
troubles with the local children.
He was insecure in many ways, but wanted to be the best. He wanted to be
special and find success in whatever he did. A desire to be remembered, that
was very important to him. Nothing inspired this more however than when he
would patrol the local cemetary in boredom.
The small hamlet offered little in entertainment, and these walks were
traditional to pass the time. The cemetary always made him think, the names
on the stones, the dates. That was all that was left of these people.
Their legacies were forgotten, their deeds but whispers. This troubled the
boy and he began to aspire to greatness.
He was troubled however to do this, since being expelled from the local
school. His parents found him a mage who lived further out solitary in the
woods to continue his education.
It was a long walk into the darker depths of Silverwood and the man was
strict and authoritarian in his style. Some say he was a former imperial
black magician, though these were just rumors.
From the tender age of twelve to his early adulthood he was tutored by this
man, who had other ideas of what a 'practical education' was.
Studies in magic, history and necromancy were his primary focus. The teacher
used his desire for rememberance and victory in life and ultimately in death.
The boy lacked patience early on as most young boys aspiring for power do. He
always tried to do more than he was capable of, a lesson he would harshly
learn.
The Ritual
Added Sat Dec 23 13:16:45 2017 at level 30:
He attended his studies one day, on his sixteenth birthday in fact only to
find his teacher dead. Age had taken him. As he studied his corpse the
profound realization that age was inescapable stuck to him.
He spent the weeks not revealing his teachers demise, instead scouring
through his texts and journals with a great fervor.
He uncovered a great deal but one thing he paid more heed to than anything
else. It was a 'mass animation' spell that had apparently been uncovered from
the inferno itself. A thief had sold it to him some years ago, yet he never
dare to cast it.
It was unstable magic that only the most powerful could wield. Hetherian in
his arrogance committed to wielding this magic. He had been forbidden to
speak of his studies to the townfolk out of fear of repercautions against his
teacher and upon himself.
Still, he had grown powerful enough to display to the townfolk he was not to
be trifled with any longer.
He took some time, learning the magic. When he had the basics perfected he
found his way home, to the cemetary.
The ritual took some time to prepare for. He intended to raise every being in
the cemetary, bringing their memory to life while establishing himself in the
village history for all time.
He began the ritual around midnight and immediately, something seemed off,
yet he carried on, dismissing it as paranoia on his part.
The negative energies were difficult to manage as they were invoked, and it
caused a good deal of unexpected ... qualities. The earth shook and green
lights began to manifest about the cemetary yet he pressed on.
He attracted some unwanted attention as the town drunk stumbled upon him,
screaming in terror and running off in search of aid.
He knew that he would be discovered soon and accelerated the spell. As bones
and flesh began to rise from the ground he felt a sharp pain the back of his
skull.
Falling and looking up he saw an old classmate from his days in the school.
He looked very afraid and ordered him to stop this madness.
The Simplest Victories
Added Sat Dec 23 13:17:16 2017 at level 30:
But it was too late, the spell had taken energy of his own and was no longer
able to be controlled. Wailing spirits, spectral horrors and the dead
themselves manifested, laying complete and utter waste to the village.
Hetherian found solace in an open grave not yet filled but was not left
unscathed. The negative energies beneath the earth were still quite active
and tore at him physically, mentally and spiritually. It deformed his body,
in particular his hands which were made quite skeletal and devoid of muscle.
His body was scarred in various places and his hair, once an oak brown was
drained of color and made near white.
The negative energies manifested themselves in other ways as well, effecting
his mind and his soul itself. He always would appear untrustworthy to the
simple folk, something not right with him.
Dawn brought quiet at long last, and he emerged to see the utter destruction
he had wrought. The things he saw, well... they were enough to trouble even
one such as he. The things that had been done to the children were
particularly daunting.
He left as quickly as possible, escaping to nearby galadon where he found
refuge in the local pub. Over the months he became a severe alcoholic, trying
to escape what he had done.
It took some time for him to find some ability to exist properly, the
necromancer guild locally was able to offer some assistance and he came to
believe that in the end, had he not been interuptted, this would not have
happened.
It was his only comfort and he could not in the end let himself be so wrought
in defeat. He began his studies anew, seeking dark power and dark knowledge
wherever he can find it.
He seeks to understand what went wrong and become great in spite of it.
Still, he struggles with demons on a daily basis and the spirits of the
townfolk harrass him regularly, doing what they can to harm his soul and
maintaing a curse upon him.
A drunkard necromancer now, he seeks the knowledge held in the black sect as
his teacher once had. His methods were fresh in his mind and he felt at ease
in such a strict environment.
He is recluse and careful to utter his motives or past. He seeks to find
someone who can give him some explanation of what went wrong and seeks
comfort, though he would never admit it.
He seeks to rise in the empire and uses his desire for greatness and victory
as a distraction from his own inner demons and search for peace.
A true victory for him would be to conquer the demons that haunt his every
moment, though he fails to recognize this.

2nd of the Month of the Sun - 79
---------------------------------
I've decided to begin penning memoires of sorts for future use. I've recently
spoken with Lady Daphedee and speaking to her of the past has inspired me to
keep track of my own.
My talk to the lady involved a great many things, but the one overarching
theme involved the failures that lead us to greatness. The stumbles, the
different paths to it.
We spoke at some length of other great imperials of the past, Sindrir and
Gaspare. Both of whom endured great tribulation in their own lives to reach
the pinnacle of the summit.
My own past has had trials of its own, though up until now I've looked upon
this failures with great disdain. I now belive i understand that which Lady
Daphedee teaches, these things are what shape our greatness.
I've begun researching some history and will begin scribing for the imperial
library soon. Perhaps through understanding the suffering and shortcomings of
our past great leaders the lesser herd can understand what is required for
greatness themselves.

22nd of The Month of the Old Forces, 80
I've done it again!
I've gotten far too ahead of myself as of late. I've been given the title of
Dread Lord, which while an honor of course is nothing to boast over given the
state the empire is in. Still, the unspoken one graced me with his presence
and bestowed the title upon me.
In my state of arrogance and dreaming of days to come, I promised Emnon
phylacteries for his vaults as a show of confidence. What was I thinking!?
I don't know where to begin for such an endeavor, let alone if I will succeed
in the task. I find myself unable to sleep, thinking about what the Unspoken
one will do to me in life or death should I fail to produce.
I must learn from these bouts of arrogance and keep my endeavors in check.
Still, on a more positive note, i've written a book to contribute to the
imperial library. In these days where our only culture is watching dear
emperor mow down villagers and journey into the bowels of the earth, i
consider it a victory.
I see my named penned upon the shelves and see my memory preserved, a true
victory. I will continue to scribe myself into history.
Daphedee has as always been crucial to my understanding of the greater
portrait i paint. I can only hope she may gleam some insight into Gaspare's
past to point the way to lichdom. Otherwise, Emnon may come for my soul in
instead of the stones.
Entry Three
Added Wed Jan 3 21:59:35 2018 at level 47:
I've found the High Priest of Eil Shaeria. He's...agreed.. somewhat to help
me form an elixir, but he demands his payment first.
I've grown troubled by his shattered mind, and hearing of Gaspares fate makes
me wonder if I will reach the same end should my becoming be successful.
I've decided to take to writing more so that I can look back so to speak and
rejuvinate my consciousness in the days to come. With so much to do I must do
what I can to mitigate the chances of falling into a madness spurred by the
undeath.
I've also been reading of the days of old within the empire. So frustrating,
the empire has become a shell of its former self. Gone is the vision of our
great leaders, instead, we have visionless bloodthirsty drow and acolytes of
Emnon, devoted to hoarding treasures.
So much is taken for granted and the empire has lost sight of what victory
is. Should i not be able to remedy this in my current capacity, I may have to
take alternative measures.
The young blood in the empire is eager for change, the old cling to their
demented ways. We need a catalyst.
Entry Four
Added Sun Jan 7 22:47:59 2018 at level 47:
I've made my intent to become a lich openly known throughout the empire.
Usually, my predecessors would keep this a secret until the process was
complete. I however have decided to 'involve' my colleagues in this. My hope
is that it will make them feel a part of this and feel a sense of victory
from its completion.
It also enstils a sense of trust in the emperor and council. Misplaced as it
may be.
I wait to speak to the high priest again, having gathered his 'price' of
several artifacts from the ancient dragon lairs. His shattered mind is only
capable of consciousness from time to time, it requires me to be vigilant and
try to find him at just the right time so I can begin the process of
gathering the elixir ingredients.
I look for the unspoken one to begin the process of unseating the empror. He
has shown just how useless he is. His lust for blood is all that drives the
old man anymore and the empire turns to ash at his feet.
The empire is in danger of ceasing to exist and I've also the bargain I've
made with the lord of loss that requires doing, lest I be in a poor position
indeed.
My texts for the lyceum near completion and my own personal texts go well. I
suspect they will serve me well after the ascension.
